Fallen Star (The Divine Devils Book 2) by R Weir

Fallen Star is the second book in The Divine Devils Series and a wonderfully written Crime Thriller that is extremely hard to put down. I’m a fan of this author and his style of writing along with his pretty straightforward characters make for a intense read at times. I found myself on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the next move. This is packed with action , suspense drama crime and so much more. The storyline flowed so well that I got caught up in the pages and read half the night . I do highly recommend reading the first book if you haven’t already started it. Its just as good as this one and you get to know the characters and what’s been going on. Hunter and his team are back and this time they are investigating what starts out as a blackmail case but it seems the deeper they dig the more they find. They find themselves in a dangerous situation that includes, drugs, prostitution and murder. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

—————

October, 1952. The war is over, but for CIA officer Miriam Becker, memories of the horrors she witnessed remain jagged in her mind. While vacationing in Argentina, recovering from a mission that nearly killed her, she’s seeing more ghosts from the past than the sights.

The Intruders by Brett McKay – Review by Angela Hayes

The IntrudersThe Intruders by Brett McKay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Intruders by Brett McKay is a bit of a gripping supernatural thriller. This is my first book from Mr. McKay so I was excited to see what he could do.
I was immediately pulled into the story, avidly reading along to find out how things played out in the end. I was so engrossed that I ended up reading the whole book in one sitting. I didn’t need sleep. I needed answers lol.
Dex Sanders is a down on his luck husband and father. Scraping by as a car salesman just to make ends meet. But what happens when strange things begin to happen? An odd package arrives. Then dangerous intruders abduct him and his family- and then try to torture information out of him? Things couldn’t get worse. Or could they? Dex will need to dig deep, and try to keep his wits about him if he has any chance of finding a way to escape to save his family and himself- oh, and the world while he’s at it.
An intense story full of danger, dramatic developments, action, violence, agendas, time running out, high stakes, discovery, challenges, a powerful supernatural force, deadly & determined killers, and a whole lot of nail-biting tension…. it’s well worth the read to discover all the gripping details for yourself.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Brett McKay!

This book really brought on the wow factor as well as the blow your mind factors as well! I was intrigued all the way through! The story had a mix of everything, I cant say it was one specific genre. And those specific words made this book all more appealing. I simply must say I was amazed and fascinated as I read!

The writing was spot on, and the author knew how to draw the reader in and hold them there to the final word on the final page. The horror side of this story really appealed to me, but then we got into some sci-fi elements, and my mind was blown. Personally the author notes of thoughts after each conclusion of a chapter, was a welcoming touch. I enjoyed reading the author’s thoughts as to why it was written how it was. The characters were great, realistic, and certainly had strong character development, but Dex really was well written. Family man, supports his family, but when danger strikes, he steps up and does whatever he must. The book was a tornado of events and emotions! I could not put this one down Freaking loved it!

I cannot say good enough things about this book or the talented author. You must experience my recommendation for yourself. Highly recommend. A must read for sure-to both the author and book!

Wow, what a book! I loved this story so damn much! It was intense, thrilling, terrifying and the way Brett had such great descriptions of everything, made it that much better. The fighting scenes, the way he explained how someone was hurt. Simply amazing. Dex is a badass and I loved every character in this book. The plot, characters, all of it..simply great. And Brett has author notes after each chapter and I LOOOVED that. I’ve never read a book with that in it. Gives such great insight on the story and why he wrote what he wrote. My first book by Brett and I’ll definitely be checking out his others. Was a real page turner for me and I read it in one sitting. Every time I tried to put my kindle down to do something, I picked it back up. It was THAT good that I had to continue and finish to the end. HIGHLY recommend.

You always hear anything after the first isn’t as good as the original. Honestly that isn’t the case here. Entering into year two it just feels like the story is picking up where it left off. The way that Makayla has grown up makes you feel like you are actively in her life to witness it. I cannot wait for the next book!

Huntress by Karina Kantas – Review by Helen Dawkins

Huntress: Love and revenge entwine in this dark MC romanceHuntress: Love and revenge entwine in this dark MC romance by Karina Kantas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good biker gang dark romance. There are a few times where it was a little over the top and not believable, but for the most part the author kept to the true natures of gangs, of all kinds, not just a biker gang. I did enjoy it being a biker gang dark romance vs the normal mafia type dark. Sofi, aka “Dior” is the female main character that starts off as not so innocent but definitely not gang material. She loves her dark make up, smoking pot with the occasional pill, and rocker music, especially Iron Maiden, but she is by far not a killer or drug dealer. She learns that her parents, her prim and proper parents used to be in a biker gang, and not just in a gang but the leaders of a highly respected gang the Tyrants in London. Sofi and her brother John find out a few other family secrets, which push her brother to suicide. This enrages Sofi, she wants revenge, she wants to kill the reason for her brother’s suicide; that person is the father of her new BF (Buzz) who is also the head of a rival gang in London, the Wolves. Sofi gets in deep, almost too deep. Sofi (Dior) encounters many hardships while trying to enact her revenge plot, but she also falls in love. Can she get out? Does she want to? Is this all worth it? There are many twists and turns I did not expect, and ultimately the ending completely blindsided me. While there were some faults in certain situations, I overall loved the book and would recommend to anyone who loves a good dark romance.

PLEASE read trigger warnings if you have any!

Trigger Warnings I believe need to be stated:
Rape (of multiple types), Kidnapping, Drug Use, Date Rape Drug, Guns, Murder, any many other adult themes.

Sofi has a secret, but so do her parents. After finding out the truth about her parents past, she is set out on a path for revenge. She gets herself involved with a local motorcycle club called “The Wolves.” Sofi gets herself in with the club by singing at local motorcycle bars. She happens to catch the eye of Buzz, the Vice President of the Wolves. As she hangs around, the attraction between Buzz and Sofi cannot be denied. During her time with the wolves though, she goes by the name Dior. She does whatever it takes to be seen as a valuable member to the club. Will her secrets come back to bite her in the rear or will she get the revenge she is seeking?
This was such a fun book. It has a darkish back story but a great story. I loved the characters and the overall story was one I loved. I need more of Sofi and Buzz!

Bycatch by Alexander Blevens took me by surprise. When I initially chose this book I thought it would be a ‘good’ story, something I could use as a bit of a ‘palate cleanse’ between some of my ‘heavier’ reads. But this took me by surprise- in a great way. It grabbed me right from the get-go and didn’t release me till I had read every word. I was so engrossed in the story that I ended up reading it in one sitting. Sleep is overrated, after all lol.
It is an entertaining and suspenseful thriller with historical details, crime (and investigation), family dynamics, tortured souls, human frailty, tension, intrigue, challenges, complexity, secrets, interconnected details, moving moments, guilt, murder, greed, culture, and more.
This is a well-written, detailed, and descriptive story with skillfully crafted characters who all had their own unique personalities, quirks, and flaws.
I have been debating how to review this story ever since I finished reading it, not because there was anything wrong…. but because I don’t want to give too much away. I think I will let the blurb speak for the story and recommend going into the story a little blind and let the author, plot, and characters surprise you with a riveting read.
If you love a bit of a twisty thriller, with tortured souls, secrets, murder, mystery, historical details, and gripping tension- then you will definitely want to snap up a copy for yourself to explore- asap.
As this is his debut novel, I eagerly await more from Mr. Blevens.
Happy Reading!

Thank you, Alexander Blevens!

This book is a well written story that dives into culture, greed, and profound grief. The characters you encounter are crafted in such a way that what they are feeling or suffering from feels like you are the one with those experiences. The trauma of war with the repercussions that come from it are exposed in a light that is normally shadowed over. The lives of two different cultures living in one area is well written. Following along with the characters as time moves on and their personal journeys to healing keeps you wanting to turn the page. War related reads are not something I normally choose when picking up a story and I do not regret picking up this book. It hit me in the feelers while being an interesting read. I would highly recommend this book.

Wow what a story. The intricate details that this author put in to was…wow…superb. Although this book is different than what I normally read..I am so glad I picked this book up and the cover itself intrigued me. The author captures you in different time lines, but the story really comes together. This book is about what happens when poor choices full of greed come full circle and forgiveness between a man and a community of Vietnamese immigrants.

Fantastic and Highly Recommended….so well done!!

The Divine Devils….the kind of guys you definitely want on your side because they are not what you’d expect them to be!! I really wasn’t sure what I was getting into when I picked up this book to read but I sure had a hard time putting it down once I got started!! Action packed from the get-go, Hunter is trying his best to clear his name in a previous incident when the Divine Devils are called back together for a new case. This one involves a very wealthy actress trying to get the extortionists off her back and her out of the lime-lime for nefarious reasons.
I’m going to have to go back and read the first book of this series just to “catch up” with more of the back stories of these characters and because if the first book is as good as this one, well, I just need to read it.

Fallen Star is the second book in The Divine Devils series by R. Weir. It is another well-developed crime thriller- following along with Hunter Devine and his crew as they investigate what appears to be a fairly straight-forward blackmail plot- but things aren’t quite so simple and take a sinister turn as they get tangled in a deadly web of murder, drugs, prostitution, and perilous danger.
What happens makes for a gripping read with plenty to keep you glued to the pages- mystery, suspense, agendas, investigation, intrigue, tension, violence, danger, plots, action, and lots of dramatic developments.
Unputdownable!

This author amazes me in all that they create and write. I can never get enough, and feel complete satisfaction with their writing skills and style, as well as the creativity behind the story and characters.

The characters alone made this book a must read. I loved how each character was different, yet was critical as an addition to the story. No character was just to pass time, they were needed and added to the story in different ways. I loved how real they all were, there were no cupcakes and sugar plums with them, you got what you got. The story was action packed, and full of intrigue. The suspense made me want to keep reading, and find out what would develop. The dark essence of the novel kept me holding tight as I read. The book was amazing, when I finished it, I kept thinking about it. Well done to this author! Loved it!

This author is always a must read in my books. This book is no different. The first book was gripping. and this one held its own as well. Highly recommend this book/series/author! A must read for sure!

The Prisoner of Paradise (Painted Souls, #1)The Prisoner of Paradise by Rob Samborn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This novel is best described, in my opinion, as interesting. The plot is not at all what I originally anticipated, but it did not disappoint. The anticipation truly kept me on edge until the very end. The only complaint I have about this book is that I could not connect with the characters. Nick is a very determined but selfish man, married to Julia who is independent yet selfless. I have no idea how these two got married and have such an amazing connection, but if Nick was my husband I would divorce him in a split second after the trip he put Julia through.

Aside from the characters, I did quite enjoy the plot. It was intense and left me guessing until the end. If you enjoy thrillers, I would recommend picking up this novel. Just because I did not connect with the characters does not mean you won’t!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sofi is shocked when it is revealed that her parents were once in a biker gang before she was born. It is a side to them that she never saw and that was kept well hidden from her. As dark family secrets are revealed she is shocked to learn what a rival biker gang, The Wolves, did to her family many years ago. Sofi decides it is up to her to seek revenge on The Wolves in the only way she knows how. As a writer her pen is her weapon, and she decides to expose The Wolves for all their crimes and take them down by writing a story about them. Sofi dons a new persona as Dior and infiltrates The Wolves by dating a Wolves Member named Buzz.

Buzz is the temporary V.P. of The Wolves while his dad, Mud, the Prez, is in prison. He does not know any lifestyle other than the biker life because that is how he grew up. Dior’s initiation into The Wolves is rough but she is determined to stay the course and follow through with her revenge. Things get complicated when Dior falls hard for Buzz and sees a side of him that his biker friends do not get to experience. Buzz also finds himself falling for Dior and sees a life and world outside of the biker lifestyle that changes how he sees the lifestyle he lives. Dior finds herself enjoying the sense of camaraderie and the feeling of invincibility that comes with the biker lifestyle and starts to identify as one of The Wolves. Will Dior find herself falling hard into the biker lifestyle and give up everything else she knows to be one of The Wolves so she can be with the man she loves? Or will Buzz give up the only lifestyle he has ever known to be with the woman he loves?

This book was full of action, suspense, romance, love, lust, and bloodshed throughout which made it impossible to put down. I loved the character of Sofi, AKA Dior, and admired the courage it took for her to infiltrate a biker gang to expose the truth. I was impressed with the lengths that she went to prove her worth to the Wolves, while also being simultaneously sickened by the abuse she was subjected to. Buzz initially came across as the typical bad boy: cold, abusive and a real lady’s man. That is the kind of man that most women are not attracted to, but Dior saw through his persona and witnessed another side of him. The chemistry between Dior and Buzz was undeniable and I had to read until I knew what would become of them. Would Sofi/Dior get revenge? What would happen when the truth was revealed? Would love really conquer all? Whose lifestyle would win out? This book is a must read!

Huntress is a raw MC thriller and a great read. It is the second book in the OUTLAW series. This is one ride you do not want to miss. This adrenaline fuelled and fast paced story is gritty and makes no apologies when dealing with this MC. Nothing is off limits. It’s ride or die time. Right up my alley.

Fallen Star: The Divine Devils Book 2: Mystery Suspense Crime ThrillerFallen Star: The Divine Devils Book 2: Mystery Suspense Crime Thriller by R Weir
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fallen Star is the second book in the Divine Devils series and a fantastic crime thriller that has you on the edge of your seat. It has everything to keep the pages turning. This complex plot takes you into the bowels of darkness is full of danger and mystery, suspense and intrigue, action and violence, murder and mayhem.

This intense and thrilling tale draws the reader in and fully invested in the outcome and the characters. R Weir’s gift is definitely in this genre and I am glad to have come across his books.

Former US Marshall Hunter Divine and team are back. He makes no apologies for who he is but there is one thing you can count on and that is he will always get the job done. He is a complex and flawed man who has more baggage than a department store.

This case may help him personally and he will not walk away empty handed.

Beware once you start you will not be able to put it down. Bring on more!
