My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you gotten lost in a quest you are performing? Megan is going on a quest. This quest has action, danger, and magic. Megan also has Tyson on the ques with her. He is an arrogant athlete that Megan needs to support her in this quest. Will Megan and Tyson fulfill the quest? There are dangers and adventures in every moment of the story. You will have to read to see what happens to Megan on this quest she goes on. Alexander Charalambides does an amazing job creating this world in which his characters live in. This is a YA book but I found it engaging. More and more the authors for YA are understanding that the story can be for both young adults as well as adults alike. This book made me feel like I was on a quest with Megan and Tyson. I recommend that you go on the quest with Megan to see what happens in the magical world.

Golden Void (Black Blade Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides follows Megan, a minor character from the previous stories. I really enjoyed reading from her point of view as she once again gets caught up in a magical quest. The author is very detail oriented, so at times the story is a bit slow, however there is plenty of action and drama. With a serial killer Wizard on the loose and a cocky athlete to deal with, will Megan be able to help complete their quest or will she find herself among unlikely enemies? Although this book can be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the previous ones first.

This is book 3 in the Black Blade series, although we see some of the same characters i would definitely say you could read it without the first 2. Such a good read. Alexander Charalambides Has a very unique way with his words, he sucks you into the story and holds you tight, as if you are right there in the action and action is what you will get when you read this books. Lovers of real fantasy will enjoy this book as much as I did I’m sure. Another truly fantastic read by a brilliant Author. Thank you.

Heart of Malice (Alice Worth Book 1) by Lisa Edmonds – Review by Naomi McDonald

Heart of Malice (Alice Worth #1)Heart of Malice by Lisa Edmonds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heart of Malice is the first book in the Alice Worth series. And, I have to say that the series is off to a great start!

The first chapter starts out with action which sucks you right into the story. I liked the unique way the ghost is portrayed in chapter two. I also found the interaction between the ghost and Alice amusing. Alice sort of reminds me of Jessica Jones.

Something I’m wondering about is how the author decided on what is in the Supernatural and Paranormal Entity Registration Act. I’d be interested to know what went into that process. It’s a good detail that adds a more realistic feel to the story.

All of that rambling to say, this is a good read. The only thing I wish had been different is that Alice demonstrated more of her power. And, maybe that changes in subsequent books as the character grows. I’ll have to read and see.

Golden Void by Alexander Charalambides is the third novel in the Black Blade series and was a good read. I really wanted to like this book more than I did, however it wasn’t a bad novel! It just wasn’t my favorite. I’m not a huge fan of the stream of consciousness writing and I kept finding my mind drifting throughout when I was reading this novel. However the characters were great and it had a really good plot! I just couldn’t get into it as much as I wanted to. I do recommend reading the other books in the series first before reading this one.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an exciting and gripping read which had me hooked from page one. A great mix of magic, mystery and murder and full of drama this is a fast paced page turner. Newly adopted teenager Megan has been conscripted to take on an insidious serial killer who has been targeting wizards along with cocky and athletic Tyson. This feels like history repeating itself for Megan as this is her second quest with a magical twist and involving legendary enchanted swords. Battling with an “army of inhuman cultists and the machinations of a bloodthirsty, insidious serial killer of wizards”, Megan also has to keep Tyson’s attitude under control all whilst trying to reach their subterranean goal. Both Megan and Tyson must work together and face their fears, but soon Megan wonders who her real enemy is. This book took me on a great adventure along with Megan and Tyson who were both great characters. I was immersed in the supernatural world thanks to Charalambides great world building. I found this novel to be an exciting read and although it is book three in the ‘Black Blade’ series it can be read as a standalone story.

Tompkin’s School: For The Extraordinarily Talented (A Supernatural Academy Trilogy Book 1) by Tabi Slick – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur

Tompkin's School For The Extraordinarily Talented (Supernatural Trilogy #1)Tompkin’s School For The Extraordinarily Talented by Tabi Slick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a tale of transferring to a new high school, in a new place and let’s not forget that it is a boarding school as well. This tale starts with a landing plane and setting off to a new, unknown place and the one who pick’s the new passengers to take them to their new home, is none other than a local policeman who takes them to stay with him and his family for the night, before hitching a ride with his son to the new school the next day. While looking out of the car window, a realisation hits that the new school is in the middle of nowhere and that there will be nothing interesting there.

On arrival there is something a bit unusual and off about the new school and from driving up to the gates, the place and the people within it are astounding, but not all for the best reasons, being shown around, normality resurfaces with the meeting of roommates, finding out what the school year will look like and who the teachers will be.

As everyone at the school starts to settle in, that things are not as they seem and the people are not who they are perceived to be, and the fact that one of them has black wings and shifts into a demon on the full moon, is a lot to handle on top of everything else.

there are twists and turns in this adventure, but will the ties that they develop last the distance, or will this school break those bonds? There are discoveries to find, decisions to be made and mysteries to uncover, how can anyone still maintain who they are as they get through these new challenges and stay in control of the darkness within?

You can only find out by reading the book and it will keep you guessing about what will happen all the way to the end.

Heart of Malice by Lisa Edmonds is the first book in the Alice Worth series. It is an action packed book that will keep you on your toes.
This is my first book by this author so I wasn’t sure what to expect going into the book. What I found was a well written story that was certainly interesting. I liked the whole escape from her past whole still using her powers.
I did at times struggle with the character a little – I wish she could have been a little more tough and hold her own a bit better. However I do think she had a great depth and intrigue about her that kept my interest. This was an overall good book and I am looking forward to seeing whah the rest of the series holds.

This is the third in the series. Megan gets her own story in this one. I enjoyed her in past stories so I was pleased she gets her time. It is easy to get lost among these pages. It is fast paced and the characters bring this story to life. Megan recently gets adopted thinking her life will be normal. She is in for a surprise and is taken upon a magical quest. We see some familiar secondary characters and others are new. But the question is who can Megan trust?

This is an intriguing YA story that can be read as a stand alone. I would recommend the other two if you want a fulfilling experience.

I was really excited when I found out the third book in the Black Blade Series from Alexander Charalambides would have Megan in it as the star of the show. We got to see glimpses of her in the past two books and I really enjoyed her character. I was very excited to get to see her shine in Golden Void. Megan has been newly adopted and also is taking on the task of the second quest. She will face magic, wizards, and more fabulous swords, as she finds her way to the end. Will she succeed or will she get lost in trying to figure out who she is rather than the quest. I loved this concept and that the magic and folklore that I enjoyed in the other two novels was present here once again. I will be interested to see who will shine in the next book!

This is the 3rd book in the Black Blade series and this follows Megan.

Megan is a young girl who was adopted by Kendrick. When Megan follows Kendrick one night too make sure she comes to no harm she is entangled in the going on of magic one again and sent on another quest.

There is a killer on the loose and they are targeting the one who has the sword. Megan is sent on this quest with Tyson, who is a cocky athletic kid. Megan’s main job is to keep him and his attitude under control until they reach their destination. Also along this journey Megan is again left wondering who if anyone she can trust.

I really enjoyed this fantasy adventure. It contains a great deal of mystery as well as legend and murder. The author builds the character really well that you feel as if you are actually on the journey with them. It keeps you gripped and guessing from beginning to end.

Sometimes while reading these Black Blade books I’m not really sure what’s going on. The beauty of that is…. The characters don’t know either. Golden Void by Alexander Charalambides a fantastic five-star read. This is number three in the Black Blade series and they can be read as stand-alone but honestly, I have enjoyed them all as they have recurring characters who build each of the stories. Megan has a great story and one that unfolds from the first chapter, as you follow her quest you get dragged deeper into the story. One that brings characters you don’t expect and twists that will keep you hooked. This is a young adult story that brings lots of different elements to it and doesn’t dumb it down like some young adult stories. All of the quests bring something different and this one just brings the extra.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Heart of Malice (Alice Worth Book 1) by Lisa Edmonds, 5 stars.

This is phenomenal urban fantasy. It is a little on the darker side, but the story is so unique and interesting. Alice’s background is something the like I have not really read before and you can see this in the way she handles her investigation. At the same time, she is knows she’s not perfect and learns from that. She reminds me of Mercy Thompson or Anita Blake. Malcolm is great too and I really like the addition of a secondary character. Then there’s the story itself. I really enjoyed it and liked the fact that I was reading something I have not read before. Add in the twists and turns, this makes for a complete story that you can’t get enough of. I eagerly await when I can delve back into this world in the next book.

If you are a fan of strong female characters in an urban fantasy setting with some mystery and action thrown in, this book is for you.

I loved this story! It really kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was happening next. I was surprised and hopeful all at the same time throughout this one. Then there are the characters. They breathe life into this story. Alice Worth is one to keep an eye on. She has a past that is sooo secret and a new life that she shields to keep her past quiet. Trust issues are one of her biggest hang-ups. Then we have the lovely secondary characters. Mal, Sean and Charles. I have to say Mal is pretty high on my list. He is an amazing and helpful sidekick. The other two are each paranormals high in society who covet Alice and hinder each other’s pursuits.

Overall this is a wonderful beginning to this series. It makes me want to read more and more. Next please!

Lisa’s world building is well done and with so many creatures her imagination could go wild, which I so look forward to. This is a great read. Full of adventure and mystery as well as romance and magic. It has a great strong female character who is independent but not afraid to accept help.

Alice is in hiding. She has escaped from her grandfathers group where she was physically abused, tortured and made to use her magic skills for evil. After her escape she builds a life for herself as a PI.

Things are running along smoothly until her client Natalie hires her to help her locate things missing from her grandmothers house. But Natalie and this situation aren’t what they seem and when Natalie shows the signs of powers Alice has to help guide her and find the missing object.

Add to Alice’s life the Ghost Malcolm who is attached to her and helps her investigating and her new love interest in Sean the werewolf and she definately has her hands full.

Will Megan succeed in this second quest she has been put on the path of or will she struggle to know who to trust and who not too?

This is the third book in this series and I am so glad Megan got a book to herself, within the other stories she has played a vital role in the quests but now she gets to pursue the wizards, magic and swords. Being newly adopted she believes she is now going to have a normal life but when something happen and she has to take upon a magical quest regarding another mythical sword but history is repeating itself when she has to look after Tyson and try and calm his rebellion.

This like the other stories delves into the world of the mythical and magic and I love how the story draws you cleverly into the world with Megan and Tyson to try and discover what is going on. The story twists and turners and opens your mind to fantasy world of Mr Charalambides which is rich and full of imagination. I love the character of Megan through the other books she has a quiet inner strength which you see develop through the other two books but this shows her at her best which I love a strong female character and Megan certainly is.

If you have not read the other books in this series I don’t think that you lose anything from this story and it can be read as a stand alone book but I would recommend the other books just to get your fill of such a rich world.
