The Lie That Binds by Amy Argent is a YA contemporary romance story with a strong emphasis on secrets and lies, high school politics/ pressure/angst/drama, trying to fit in, popular kids vs the unpopular, mean girls, cliques, emotion, fear, baggage, and more. I really wanted to love this book far more than I did. I felt so annoyed at times while reading it, and really wanted to shake the characters out of frustration. I didn’t connect with the characters as well as I would have hoped, and this made it difficult to invest in them and the outcome of the story. There seemed to be (for me) a lot of repetition that pulled me out of the story, then, as well, the flow of the story lagged/dragged in parts. This is not a typical reaction from me to one of Ms. Argents stories, as I loved her other books- so I will definitely be going back to revisit this book in a week or two and see if I still feel the same way, or if, perhaps, I was just having an off day when I read it.

Thank you, Any Argent!
