Malice (Demented Souls Series) by Melissa Stevens – Review by Kerry Baker

Malice (Demented Souls #10)Malice by Melissa Stevens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having recently read another book in this series, I was pleased to be able to get my hands on this one so soon. This book is just as a good as the first one I read and I really enjoyed the two characters are the centre of the story. They were complicated and flawed and yet completely perfect for each other. Their connection and chemistry was obvious and I loved watching how their story played out.
I thought the story was well written and interesting. The author knew how to move it forward at the right time and keep you interested from start to finish. I am pleased to see that this series has so many books to offer and I am looking forward to delving into them all.

I absolutely love the Porter and Midge series and I think this might be one of my favorites. In this installment, we get to hang out with Lora and CJ in the kitchen as they make treats for the doggies. I love the rhyming aspect of this story as well as the illustrations. But I think the thing I love the most is that at the end of the story there are recipes upon recipes for dog-safe treats for you and your littles to try. I love how interactive this book is. Definitely pick this one up and add it to your library!

Shadowed Storm: A Shadow Defense Security Thriller Book 4 (Shadow Defense Security Series) by Mavery Ellscott – Review by Kerry Carr

Shadowed Storm (Shadow Defense Security, #4)Shadowed Storm by Mavery Ellscott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 4th book in the Shadow Defense series. Even though this is part of a series they can be read as a standalone. However that being said I feel that once you read one you will want to read them all.
This is a romance suspense read, filled with drama, angst danger, a race against time and sizzling chemistry. There are so many twists and turns in this story that you are left guessing what is going to happen, especially when the threat is something that could cause harm to the whole population with enemies in high places.
When Oceanographer Alexis Hayes finds a dangerous algae that could potentially cause harm to everyone who comes into contact with it, she knows she has to nutralise the threat. However, there are people that don’t want her coming forward with what she has found.
Now it is a race against time to get the sample to someone Alexis can trust, so she can find someone to help her. But this only brings her into the spot light of people who want to stop her at any costs.
Now she needs protection and that falls to Seb.
Together they need to find a way to stop this algae from causing global chaos while also protecting themselves from a threat they could never imagine possible.

This is a fast paced read, full of action, adventure, intrigue, and twists and turns which meant i couldn’t stop reading. I can’t wait to read more.

Malice (Demented Souls Series) by Melissa Stevens – Review by Lisa Helmick

Malice (Demented Souls #10)Malice by Melissa Stevens
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a good story but I am not a fan of the writing style. Every detail and thought is mentioned more than once which means it takes forever for the story to move along. This style makes me bored and I tend to skim but no worries I did not miss anything. I know this is fiction but I can not fathom a girl immediately bonding with another guy let alone going to his place in the middle of nowhere especially after almost being kidnapped.

Other than the above the characters are nice. Not sure about an MC running a ranch but that is a different avenue. This seems to be a small group that are unique. I liked both the main characters and even his MC family.

Overall for me this story has its ups and downs. This is exactly what I expected from this author due to previous books I have read. I did not love it but also did not hate it. This is a book in a large series and I have not read any other ones in this series. So maybe there are running storylines making this even out a lot of stuff.

The book stands out for its use of engaging rhymes and delightful illustrations. These elements not only make the recipes accessible but also keep young readers entertained. Soul Sacrifice is an absolutely delectable dystopian romance by Courtney Davis. I loved this book, as it was a truly unique premise that will absolutely hook you right in. Once you start reading this it really is difficult to put down. I read this book in just 2 days, absolutely absorbed in Lark and Ebony’s journey. This book is perfectly paced, and keeps you guessing at every turn. While this is definitely an 18+ read, i absolutely recommend it! I can’t wait to see what else Courtney has in store, loved this author!

Forever to Fall by Libby Kay

Forever to Fall (Buckeye Falls Book 5)Forever to Fall by Libby Kay
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Forever to Fall was such a cute read! It is the 5th in the Buckeye Falls series but is totally fine as a standalone. This was my first read by this author and the first books are not necessary to be able to follow and enjoy this one. Although I am totally going to go back and read the others because it was such a fun story. It does get a little frustrating when the MMC can’t get past what is seemingly his own cowardice to tell Mal how he truly feels, and then in turn to be able to tell her brother/his best friend the truth of it as well. I get why he was hesitant, but think he was really selling his best friend short.
All in all, was really well written, wonderful characters and a happy ever after that wasn’t cheesy and cliche to get to. Easy to read and fun.

I am so happy she wrote this. Loved Tessa & James’s story so much and also loved seeing how Patrick and Evelyn’s story had evolved.
This story was so great!! Kept me reading until it was done.

Character development was fantastic (in both couples).
It kept me on my toes guessing who Tessa’s stalker was and the way it was all connected was very interesting and well written!
Highly recommend this duet to any reader!

Back in the Ring (The Predator #4)Back in the Ring by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 4 in the series and it did not disappoint. It was just as good if not better than the first three books. This book can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the whole series. The characters are sprinkled throughout the other books, so you have an idea of who they are. Plus, you are able to get a deeper connection with the characters. If you choose to read this book first just know that you won’t be disappointed. You will be able to gain that connection because of how the book is written. I love a good second chance love story and I love to see growth of characters. This book has both of those things. These characters have been through some stuff in their lives and they are hesitant to move forward because of the past trauma. The growth allows them to believe again and fall for each other. The emotions that this book was able to pull out of me was shocking but felt cathartic at the same time. It was a quick read because I couldn’t put it down. I am just a huge fan of this series and the books keep getting better and better. I love reading the evolution of the characters in this book. It has everything a great romance would have; love, steam, push and pull, character development, and being a page turner.

Hunter was amazing at showing the character growth and development, making sure the story left no holes or questions left unanswered and giving us readers our Happy Ever After!!! This is the first book I have read of Hunter’s and I really loved her writing style and short chapters (I didn’t even realize how much I prefer short chapters until now). I plan to look into more of her books now.

Be My Little Baby (London Detective Agency Book 2)Be My Little Baby by Stephanie R. Caffrey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tessa and James’ story had me hooked pretty quickly! This is book 2 in the London Detective Agency series and I cannot wait to get to know more characters better and dive into book 3!

Tessa has opened a new bakery and is expecting the norm as far as budgeting, hard work, and building a customer base. What she didn’t expect was for business to be so booming she got a stalker out of the deal. This leads her to James, a VERY hot private investigator. He’s so hot he has to continually remind his clients (and now himself, thanks to the appearance of Tessa) that he DOES NOT DATE CLIENTS.
Historically, James stays busy but relaxed helping his clients solve their cases, but although his schedule is booked he cannot resist the pull Tessa has on him. Tessa has no need for such a rule to not date clients, but even if she did…the chemistry between the two of them keeps you reading.

Very well written, great story telling, wonderful character building, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat between the case and the chemistry between the MCs! Excellent read!

Soul Sacrifice by Courtney Davis – Review by Jessica Godwin

Soul SacrificeSoul Sacrifice by Courtney Davis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The gods cursed humanity: you’re born with half a soul or no soul. To gain the other half, you must find your soul sister/brother and fight to the death. Dying, Ebony hires Lark, a searcher, to find her soul sister so she can sacrifice herself so that her soul sister can live with a full soul and have a better life. What she wasn’t counting on was finding her soulmate. Now she has the difficult decision to either give up her life or fight for the other half of her soul so she can have the strength to heal herself and live a wonderful life with her soul mate.

It was an interesting concept where the more soul you have the higher your status is to the government and society. Half souls are basically poor, and no souls are the scum of the world. You either stay a halfling and endure the hardships of trying to survive on half rations from the government and what little pay you make from working or you find your soul sister/brother and fight to the death and have better paying jobs, full rations, finding your soulmate and starting a family.

The story flows well and keeps you interested. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships evolving into something more than just business. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.

Chara is worried about her friend Natalia who is a newly turned vampire Natalia is flighting alongside the Masters and her mate Master Oradea, against the rogues. Since Natalia is new in role Chara is worried about her and fells a sense of dread that something is going to happen to her. As Chara is trying to warn Natalia, Master Bistrita tells Chara there is no need to worry. Like I believe him. No amount of rational thinking would think this arrogant man that dismissed me like I was nothing would be my fated mate. For Bistrita, he figured destiny would probably never find someone to pair him with let alone a Fated mate. Then make that even more irrational to place this sassy red head in my path. Not only do I not have time for this with the Rogues and trying to gain control. Now I have to figure out a way to make Chara mine.

Notebook Mysteries ~ Art of Deception (Notebook Mysteries Series) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Desiree Ottinger

Notebook Mysteries ~ Art of DeceptionNotebook Mysteries ~ Art of Deception by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Emma and Jeremy are in the thick of it with this mystery! When their friend’s brother ends up dead and no leads on who or why, they are thrown into the middle of a mystery! In order to flush out a past that is full of questions, they have to go undercover. As the investigation progresses, so do the stakes. With their family growing and responsibilities changing, can they balance it all to find out who the culprit is before it blows back on their family and friends? Or have they finally met their match?

I truly enjoy these stories! To me, this one felt a little like a novella than a novel. Usually there are multiple mysteries happening that all kind of feed into each other in some way; this one is not like that at all. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining! It was quite nice to just have the one mystery to keep track of in my mind. I liked getting to know a new character that is very similar to Emma. I think she needed someone to give her a run for her money! I hope to see their return in any upcoming books!

What is there not to love about this book !?

Patrick , his fiancé Evelyn and James run their own PI agency and they went from just scraping by to a booming business thanks to their involvement in bringing down a crime family , the publicity did them well ….

It’s closing time and James is about to leave when Tessa knocks at his door and he lets her in , she explain why she needs her help and she been to the police and they seem to be brushing her off , why would a baker have a stalker !? Well I’ll tell you because she’s gorgeous and she has a successful bakery anyhooJames listens and he’s ready to help ….I just love the name of her bakery “ Cake Me Home” and there’s more than just her Victoria sponge that James likes 😉😜

Someone is out to unsettle Tessa and they’re off to a good start with the letters and the the photos start and I tell you what I’m freaked out for her !!! What blows my mind is the police just blow her off 🤯😡 fear not though because James and his crew are on the case

James may be a workaholic and not mix business with pleasure but Tessa is making him question his resolve …. While trying to find the stalker and guard his heart James has his “ hands full”

This really was a read I’d recommend with a smile on face ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is definitely a series that BNC or ITV should adapt for the screen !!!!!

Soul Sacrifice, Courtney Davis, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Dystopian, Romance by Joanne ellis

“Soul Sacrifice” is a gripping dystopian tale that explores the themes of survival, morality, and love in a world where the concept of a soul is more than just a spiritual idea—it’s a tangible asset, controlled and manipulated by the government. This novel takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, blending intense action with deep philosophical questions about what it means to be truly whole.

The story centers around Ebony, a halfsoul struggling to survive in a society that rations everything from food to basic rights based on the completeness of one’s soul. As a halfsoul, Ebony receives only half rations from the government, a cruel reminder of her incomplete status. Despite her hardships, Ebony possesses a moral compass that keeps her from succumbing to the desperation that plagues many halfsouls. She knows that killing the woman who holds the other half of her soul would grant her full rations, a better life, and even the ability to experience intimacy, but she refuses to become a murderer.

However, when Ebony is diagnosed with terminal cancer, her perspective shifts. Determined to ensure that at least one of them gets to live a full life, she makes the selfless decision to sacrifice herself for her soulsister. This decision sets her on a path to find the woman she has sworn never to harm. Ebony’s journey is both literal and figurative, forcing her to confront her fears, her desires, and the harsh realities of a world that sees people as commodities.

Enter Lark, a searcher whose job is to locate the other halves of halfsouls, facilitating their often-violent soulbattles. When Ebony hires Lark to find her soulsister, sparks fly between them. Lark is more than just a guide; he becomes a beacon of hope for Ebony, showing her the beauty in life that she has been missing. The chemistry between Ebony and Lark is palpable, adding a layer of romance that is as poignant as it is complex. How can Ebony, who is not whole herself, fall in love? And how can she contemplate dying for someone else when she has finally found a reason to live?

“Soul Sacrifice” masterfully blends elements of romance, suspense, and speculative fiction. The author creates a dystopian world that feels eerily plausible, with a government that exerts control over its citizens’ most intimate selves. The concept of halfsouls and the brutal reality of soulbattles are both intriguing and chilling, serving as a powerful metaphor for the struggles faced by marginalized individuals in any society. The plot is driven by deception, control, and a race against time, with twists that keep readers on their toes and a narrative that challenges the very nature of humanity.

One of the novel’s strongest aspects is its character development. Ebony is a compelling protagonist, defined not just by her struggles but by her resilience and capacity for love. Her internal conflict, torn between self-preservation and altruism, is both relatable and heart-wrenching. Lark, too, is a well-rounded character, offering a glimpse into the complexity of those who navigate the morally grey areas of this dystopian world. Their relationship, though unexpected, feels natural and adds depth to the story, showing that even in a world devoid of hope, love can still bloom.

As Ebony uncovers more about the true nature of the soul curse, “Soul Sacrifice” shifts from being a personal journey to a broader critique of societal control and the manipulation of truths. The revelations about the gods and the government’s role in the halfsoul system raise important questions about power, freedom, and the cost of a soul.

In conclusion, “Soul Sacrifice” is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged novel that will captivate readers from the first page to the last. It is a story of sacrifice and redemption, of love found in the unlikeliest of places, and of the unbreakable human spirit. For fans of dystopian fiction, complex moral dilemmas, and heartwarming romance, “Soul Sacrifice” is a must-read.

Master Bistrita, Masters of the Consulate, Sylvia Black, Review, Itsy Bitsy Book Bits, Paranormal, Vampire by Joanne Ellis

“Vampire Master” is an enthralling dark fantasy that pulls readers into a world teetering on the edge of war, where ancient grudges and supernatural power struggles shape the destinies of its characters. This novel weaves a tale of revenge, love, and power with compelling finesse, set against the rich backdrop of vampire politics and paranormal intrigue.

At the center of the story is a master vampire, driven by a singular thirst for vengeance. His mind is a labyrinth of plans, each one aimed at punishing those who have dared to betray him. The world he inhabits is filled with mangy shifters, bloodthirsty rogue vampires, and traitors from the underworld. They have all evaded his grasp for too long, and now, with the stars finally aligned, it seems the time has come for purebloods like him to assert their dominance. The master vampires are poised for victory, and with the cooperation of the pesky witches, their triumph seems inevitable.

However, destiny has other plans, and nothing comes easy in the world of “Vampire Master.” Enter the red-haired beauty, a fiery goddess who refuses to play by the rules. Her presence is a defiant beacon in the dark world of the vampire master, challenging his authority and turning his well-laid plans into chaos. She is a character of strength and independence, unwilling to be a pawn in the machinations of men, even those who wield the dark powers of a master vampire. Her defiance is a breath of fresh air in a story filled with power plays and dark motives, making her a standout character.

The tension between the vampire master and the red-haired goddess is palpable, a classic tale of star-crossed lovers caught in a web of fate. As the vampire master finds himself drawn to her, his need for revenge is overshadowed by an even more primal urge: to protect her. When their enemies make the fatal mistake of targeting her, the vampire’s wrath is unleashed. It is in these moments that “Vampire Master” shines, showcasing the lengths to which a master vampire will go to protect what is his. The ensuing battle is not just one of survival, but a fierce declaration of possession and love.

The strength of “Vampire Master” lies in its rich world-building and character dynamics. The author deftly balances the dark allure of vampire politics with the fiery passion of the romance between the leads. The narrative is fast-paced, filled with action and intrigue, yet it also allows for moments of introspection and character development. The relationship between the vampire master and the red-haired goddess evolves naturally, moving from initial conflict to reluctant alliance, and finally to a bond that defies the very fabric of their world.

Moreover, the novel explores themes of power, loyalty, and destiny, questioning whether the future is truly set in stone or if it can be rewritten by those brave enough to defy it. The purebloods’ belief in their inevitable victory is challenged by the unpredictable nature of love and the will to protect, adding depth to the story and keeping readers engaged until the very last page.

In conclusion, “Vampire Master” is a dark and thrilling ride that will captivate fans of vampire lore and paranormal romance. With its strong characters, intricate plot, and the ever-present tension between love and power, it is a story that stays with you long after the final battle has been fought. Whether you’re drawn in by the promise of revenge, the allure of forbidden love, or the suspense of a supernatural war, “Vampire Master” delivers on all fronts.

Jesse is delectable 🥰, he’s like nectar to a bee but his dying is A LOT more pleasant 🤣🙈🔥 and I fully get why Lucy had a hard time resisting his charm and advances 😉

Lucy is pure sunshine , rainbows and happiness but there is a suppressed naught and wild side that needs to come out and play and Jesse is just the catalyst that dude of her persona needs🔥🫣

I loved being part of their story and the other characters were also entertaining especially her mum and the other band members 🤣🙌

The Taste of TreacheryThe Taste of Treachery by Emily Bybee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This novel was everything I wanted; military, friends to lovers, and suspenseful. This was also very family oriented and I love a good book that is geared toward family. The main characters, Caleb and Harper, are both spunky and determined. Their personalities glow as they search for Will, Harper’s brother and Caleb’s best friend.

The only downside of this novel was I felt like there could have been more action. The plot was good, but it could have used a touch of surprise here and there. That is the only reason for 4 stars for me rather than 5. Otherwise it is a very quick read that will have you going “one more page” for hours on end.

The Crown of Stones Trilogy Box Set (The Crown of Stones Series) by C. L. Schneider – Review by Heidi Sturgess

The Crown of Stones Complete TrilogyThe Crown of Stones Complete Trilogy by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read the books individually but I think having them a s a box set is a real treasure trove 🥰📚

BOOK 1: MAGIC PRICE

I’ve not read fantasy in quite a while and I had a few reservations but I must admit I’m grateful I got the chance to read this , cover-art is just amazing 😉

The Shinree are a suppressed nation and “bred” as slaves and to serve and wait upon others ( this really saddens me )

Ian is a Shinree and cones from a family of warriors so it’s pretty much expected that he’s pulled into the ongoing war with the Langorians ….

Ian has a good heart but at times it felt like his goodness was being taken for granted and what’s a good story if there’s not a dash of romance 😍 all in all a magical welcome back into a world of fantasy 🍄

BOOK 2 : MAGIC SCARS

Again , just loving the cover art !

To me , it feels like Ian is seen as the saviour of the Shinree but at what cost ? He’s been beaten , tortured and broken , his people are free but still enslaved and oppressed and , people from all across are hungry for freedom and they’re looking to Ian , hoping he’s the one that’ll lead them but he’s needing to heal himself ….

What is his connection with The Crown of Stones ?

BOOK 3 : MAGIC BORNE

I like the covers on all the books in the series but this feels a little different , like the magic is possessing Ian and after reading , even more so 💥

This is the end of the trilogy and be sure to have read the other books otherwise you’ll feel totally lost , I’ll be honest I was exhausted as I binge read but that in no way reflects on the book ❣️📚 what I would recommend is take a breather in between each one that way you will take more in and do the series justice 🥰

The fate of an entire race lays at Ian’s feet and sacrifices have to be made and again it seems like it all falls on Ian . Everything comes together and there’s action , love , drama and quite a bit of action , so a few boxes have been ticked

Forbiddenly Yours (Titans of Chicago Series) by Anise Storm – Review by Beverly Finnie

Forbiddenly Yours (Titans of Chicago Book 2)Forbiddenly Yours by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love these books! I’ve read every Titan book that’s been released so far and none of them have disappointed me. Forbiddenly Yours is no different. Actually Forbiddenly Yours combines two of my guilty pleasures in these types of books. Passion and Forbidden Fruit(Professor/Student relationship.
Nicole and Callum both ended up on a retreat in Costa Rica. Nicole being the daughter/niece of Titans in California and Manhattan. Callum a Titan in Chicago. But nothing could go wrong right. They and strangers during their trip, not knowing the details about the other, besides they both come from wealth. So what happens when after a night of passion turns into their worst nightmare. She’s his student, he’s her professor, which would make any relations between them forbidden.
Will they be able to resist one another?
Or will they cross the line?
I’m sure you can guess the second answer, but jumping in and reading makes it all the more worthwhile. These books may be part of a series, but they are very much standalone novels as well. Though I’ll warn you once you read one you are going to want to read them all!! And they are totally worth it. Just you wait and see, after you take the leap on this one.

Bijou is a widowed mom trying to keep her husband’s dream of a Youth Center alive but struggling to keep it and her family afloat. Bijou and her daughter Claire work hard everyday. But living in small town Georgia trying to keep the Youth Center open while dodging developers and costly repairs to the building is driving Bijou to the brink.

Noah is trying to heal after the devastating loss of his wife to a drunk driver. Noah is also trying to manage being a full-time father. Not that he hasn’t had the last year without his wife to get used to it but now he needs to focus on living again. Noah moves to a small town in the middle of nowhere in hopes of getting lost in the crowd, knowing that someday his past will surface.

Noah is attempting small town life as a handyman. When he crosses paths with Bijou, Noah realizes that there might still be room in his life for more than just his son. Bijou also fights the idea that she can move on with her life even after 6 without her husband. As Noah and Bijou rediscover love, they slowly rediscover themselves. Despite a few hiccups along the way, their love blossoms.

This was a heart-wrenching but warming addition to this series.

Falling Down (The Rockstar Series) by Anne Mercier – Review by Gillian Fawell

Falling Down (Rockstar, #1)Falling Down by Anne Mercier

I loved the sneak peek into how things like music videos are made and the real goss behind the scenes of the music and video industries. Although a fictionalised version of course, it was a great way to start imagining all the goings on. Plus the whole chemistry aspect between Lucy and Jesse – every girl dreams of growing up to date her rockstar idol don’t they??
