Lost Hollow is the first book in the Alienville Series by Donna S. Frelick. I was so happy when I saw that Ms. Frelick had a new book coming out, and that it was the first book in a brand-new series. Woot!!! I have loved all her other books, so I really couldn’t wait to see what this new book had in store for us.
This is an action-packed, sci-fi romantic suspense with plenty of intrigue, danger, adventure, mystery, secrets, drama, fate, politics, feuds/rivalry, race wars, discovery, a quest for the truth, small town setting, intensity, gripping developments, depth, rich detailing, vivid descriptions, wonderful world-building, multi-layers, community/clan/species dynamics, twists, violence, dynamic characters, agendas, tension, and emotion.
Moira McCann arrives in the small sleepy-hollow town of Allenville, way up in the Smokey Mountains, on a quest to find her missing twin sister. Even though her sister is quite quirky, free-spirited, and can be a bit ditzy at times, there is something more to her ‘falling-off-the-radar’ this time. So, Moira arrives, determined to track her down. Right away, Moira feels the mysteriousness of the town and its inhabitants- there is something more going on and she won’t be put off or set aside. The local sheriff may be easy on the eye, but she feels he’s not telling her the whole truth. What is he hiding? When mutilated bodies start turning up, and secrets begin to be revealed, Moira finds herself more out of her depths than she ever anticipated. Mind-boggling truths. Wild Beasts. Killing sprees. Mating Season. Agendas. And cover-ups. Moira’s world will never be the same. Will she uncover the truth? What happened to her sister? Can they save her before it’s too late? With danger stalking, chemistry sizzling, and targets on their backs- things are about to get quite intense.
Reading this book was like getting several stories in one. We also get several perspectives, which gives us a bigger understanding of what is happening- and a much bigger picture to appreciate. Following not just Moira on her search for her sister, and the adventure that ensues- but we also get her twins perspective of the events- as well as the whole ‘alien’ aspect of the story, which was really fascinating, well thought-out, and well-written. It gave me a bit of a sci-fi ‘Deliverance’ vibe, which I loved. I can wait for book two, to discover what happens with to Claire, and see where we go from here.
Another engrossing story from this very talented storyteller!
