The Confectioner’s Chronicles is a Young Adult genre series. However there are many YA series that as an adult I can say that this is one of my favorite genres. This particular book, The Confectioner’s Exile, is the prequel to The Confectioner’s Chronicles. Claire Luana did an amazing job setting up the character Hale. From upper class family, he did not have a want or a need for anything, but all of that changed. He went from upper class to lower class. He had to do what the common folk did for anything. He did not have good luck anymore either. He is adapting to his new role but for how long. I cannot wait to see what Claire Luana has instore for Hale.

The Confectioner’s Exile: The Confectioner Chronicles Prequel Novella By Claire Luana. This novella may be short but the author knows all the right ways to pack a punch even in fewer pages. Here we get some back story on Hale before he was with the Confectioner’s Guild. You see him grow after his perfect life comes crashing down. This novella is fast paced and filled with action. I wasn’t immediately drawn in but soon found my hook and then I couldn’t put it down so definitely give it a chance. The author is amazing with details and brings the story alive no matter how many pages it has. I’m excited to read more from this author. I’m giving this novella a four star review and recommend it.
The Confectioners Exile by Claire Luana is the prequel book in her The Confectioners Chronicles series. In this novella we get to see more into Hale’s backstory and the journey he went on before joining The Confectioners Guild. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone – it is a prequel after all – for me I felt that it was better to have read it in he order intended. It helped to give a better understanding of the overall story. I absolutely loved this book. I felt it added value to the series and was such an enjoyable read. Novellas aren’t usually my favourite kind of books and yet with this one it didn’t feel rushed or like anything was missing. The author successfully takes you on a journey separate to the main series while also adding to the main story. A great read and a series I would truly recommend.
This is the second book in A.E. Gamrat’s Bloom Duet Series. I would not read this one unless you have read “New Bloom” previously. That one really sets you up for this novel. In this installment Gamrat really focuses on the relationship between Gwen and her mother. We still see a real evolution of character with Gwen by the end of the novel but that comes about because of the storm that blows up all around her with her mother’s declining health. We also continue to see more of her and Kame. They are still going back and forth. Kame would in a heartbeat make her his. Gwen is still just not sure. She knows for sure a few things though… Her mother doesn’t approve, and he definitely has some secrets. With the chaos of her mother’s health the last thing she needs is a confusing and secretive man.
Holy cow the emotions in this book were real! As a mother, my heart broke, heck as a daughter it broke. As a woman that has been there and just wanted to find my place in a world that is just so very black and white sometimes, it broke for her. I just wanted to embrace Gwen so many times and tell her that eventually this too will pass like all storms do. Gamrat really has a knack for writing a realistic relationship and the complexities that come with it. Nothing about Gwen’s story was unbelievable, and that made this novel so completely immersive that I found myself extremely gripped. I couldn’t put this down and I honestly wanted more.
I truly enjoyed this duet. I found it to be a really accurate and great coming of age story. I myself feel like this is one I will be shelving to share with my daughter in the near future. I can’t wait to see what else is available from A.E. Gamrat, and what will come in the future. Thanks for a great read!
I was completely new to A.E. Gamrat when I first picked up “New Bloom”. I saw the absolutely gorgeous cover and just had to know what the story was that laid on the pages between them. I am so glad that I picked it up. I do have to say, it was a bit slow on the uptake at first. Once I did get into the story however, I was hooked and very grateful that the second book, “Eternal Bloom” is already available to read.
In “New Bloom” we are first introduced to Gwen. We really get the feel for her as she starts life after college. Before I really get into where this is a coming of age story and how she finds herself and her place in life I want to touch on another part of the story that really hit home with me. Ok here’s the deal, Gwen is an only child, but she also struggles with a lot of issues that an oldest child often deals with. I saw this struggle because I am the oldest daughter of three. I also saw her side of being an only child as I have just one daughter. We often tend to expect a lot of our single children as parents. Especially, those of us who wanted more, but were not able to for some reason or another. It is a struggle that I have faced a lot in my lifetime. I am not making excuses for the character her mother is. (She is a wreck and not very good with the motherly instinct. I was really struggling to not scream out loud at this woman several times.) However, I know that this is my only chance, my only time to experience motherhood and all its firsts. I won’t get a redo, or another go around. I could see where her mother was struggling with that and projecting it on her daughter throughout both of these novels. This was just as much of a strong prevalent story line in the novels as the coming of age story that was portrayed with Gwen.
With that said, this really sets the tone for things. Gwen has been groomed her whole life to be the prefect daughter. Now that she has graduated college that expectation really hasn’t changed, and she is now moving home to help out with her parents flower shop. Gwen is trying hard to find her own voice and balance her relationships. She is struggling to figure out how to do all of these things and still be everything to everyone. Then a new relationship is added to the mix when the mysterious and handsome Kame walks into the flower shop and her life one day. Something isn’t quite what it seems about him though… Watch out for that cliffhanger. Like I said though the second book, “Eternal Bloom”, is available now.
The Nearness of You by K.G. Fletcher is a fantastic heartwarming romantic story. I have now read several book by this author and they are fast becoming one of my favourites. Everything I’ve read of theirs so far, I have thoroughly enjoyed. Lauren Rose is a lounge singer in a bar in Atlanta. One evening after performing a very handsome man chats with her at the bar. He is in town for his sister’s wedding. The 2 hit it off instantly and he is drawn to her in a way he has never known before. On impulse, he invites her to be his date for the wedding. It turns out that he is David Randle, top male supermodel. The chemistry between Lauren and David is electric and they quickly realise that what they feel could really become something special. However, there is the fact that he is a top model in the UK and she lives in Atlanta. Added to the mix is David’s assistant who will do everything possible to break the couple up. I absolutely loved the characters of Lauren and David. It was obvious immediately to me that the author’s muse for David was British supermodel David Gandy. Well, that’s because I’m a huge fan of him. It was certainly no problem in picturing him in my head while reading this story. With everything that seemed to be in the way to stop Lauren and David having their happily ever after, I was rooting for them from the very beginning. These 2 needed each other in their lives. I would urge anyone to read this book. You will not be disappointed.

Painting Kuwait Violet is beautifully written by Pamela Q. Fernandes. In this story there is a little bit of history, some life lessons, and new culture to some. I did not know what I was expecting when I picked this book, but I got more than what I was expecting. From her bio it says that she a doctor, author, and medical writer. Her spirituality plays a major role in her life. From reading Painting Kuwait, I could see Pamela Fernandes faith. This is a moving story about a woman, Violet and the Kuwait matriarch Sabah who is her employer. See Violet Is working as a maid and some evil doings happen in the house of Sabah. There becomes a bond between Violet and Sabah that many cannot stand because of the simple fact that they are women. This story is a moving story that engulfed me from the beginning. This story also let me think about the placement of a woman and what they should do compared to what they want to do. I recommend all women take the time and read this story. You will look at your world differently as that is what happened to me.
Small Town Hero is the first book in the Small Town Brides Series by Kim Koby. This is my first read of Ms. Koby’s, so I really didn’t know what to expect from her as a storyteller, or writer. But the blurb sounded intriguing and the cover was sweet, so I decided to jump on in. What I discovered was a lovely, sweet, clean, and romantic story about love, loss, betrayal, second chances, opposites attract, forgiveness, and new beginnings. Rebecca had her future all planned out, or so she thought. All that comes crashing down when she discovers her fiancé in bed with her best friend. So much for happily-ever-after, or friendship. This betrayal is what sees her in Tennessee, stranded, where she has to rely the kindness of a stranger. What she doesn’t realise is this moment will change her life in more ways than she could have imagined. Ryan is a local firefighter, who too knows the sting of heartache. These two are total opposites, but you know how the old saying goes. Even though they clash, there is still a connection that neither can deny. What happens when the city girl with expensive taste meets this down-to-earth small-town hero? You’ll need to read the book to find out. The story was a little predictable, but that didn’t really detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to connect with Rebecca as she seemed quite shallow to begin with, but she won me over in the end. These two had a great connection and I loved their banter, I just wish the story had a bit more complexity, but that’s just my taste, and I know that there are others who prefer there stories to be sweet and uncomplicated- but it just slightly missed the mark for me. I can appreciate it for what it is though- a lovely, romantic story.

This story takes place in Kuwait, in a patriarchal culture where women are second class citizens and their hired help have no rights. Men have all the power and mistreat and manipulate women as if they were mere possessions. This is the world that Violet finds herself stuck in. After her father’s death, she realizes that her family has too many debts that need to be paid off. Though educated with a bachelors degree in finance, she cannot find a job. She must demean herself and work as a maid for the Dashti family in Kuwait.
Life is difficult for her at first but she overcomes obstacles and forms an interesting friendship with her boss Sabah Dashti. Sabah is lucky to have Violet in her life for she helps Sabah with her daughter Aliya and gives her sound advice for her business. This is what I enjoyed most about the book. Watching the relationship grow between Sabah and Violet. What started out as a boss and hired help turned into a friendship of trust and respect.
There was a second storyline with a misogynistic, sadistic man who thrilled in preying on the maids. It added tension and drama to the story. Both storylines were good, I just wish the author would have concentrated on one. Either one would have made an excellent story; having both I felt took a bit away from each.
To be honest, I was hesitant to read this book mainly because of the culture it takes place in. It angers me that men feel they have the right to believe that women are lower than they are. This ended up being a poignant story that had my heart reaching out to not only Violet but the rest of the women in the story. Although the book didn’t end the way I would have liked, I really enjoyed the book.
This is a Young Adult story that is part of The Confectioner Chronicles by this author. In this book we get to see Hale’s story before he entered the Confectioner Guild. He is someone who had it all when one night changed everything for him. Now he is on the run for his life but will he be able to talk his way to safety? This is a journey of twists and turns which keep you reading until the last page. I highly recommend this book and see Hale’s story first hand.
Aviva Vaughn has graced us with another wonderful installment in the ‘Beckoned’ series, this time she deviates from the norm and tells us what happened to Soren after he left Angela’s book party in Los Angeles. Obviously, this is the fifth book in the series and it would be best to read all four previous books to get a better idea about who Soren is and what brought him to Costa Rica. Of all the places I pictured Soren escaping to, Costa Rica was nowhere close to on my list, but Aviva Vaughn has surprised me in the best way with sending Soren there and showing us a side to him I didn’t think existed. This Soren has grown and changed in so many good ways and the tiny tropical town he ends up in somehow fits him beautifully. One of my favorite parts of Aviva Vaughn’s books is the scenery and this book doesn’t disappoint! Costa Rica sounds like such a magical place and Aviva Vaughn does such an incredible job of describing every detail to make the reader feel like they are right there with Soren. My other favorite part of her books is all the cooking and wonderful foods she describes! So, when Soren meets the locals and starts to learn about the cuisine, I got so excited! It was nice to read about Soren and his adventure, so I can’t wait to read “Beckoned, Part 6: Adrift in New Zealand!!” I give this book 5 stars, obviously!

Georgia Pine by K.G. Fletcher a four-star read that will make you pine. This is the third book in the Southern Promise series this can be read as stand-alone, but I have enjoyed the whole series. Jessica has been through some tough times and she is really a strong character to stand up to it all, we watch as she starts a little lost but comes through in the best way to become a woman you will want in your life. This author has a way with words that creates chemistry on the page that light up even the darkest of circumstances.

Painting Kuwait Violet is written by author Pamela Q. Fernandes. This is an intriguing and suspenseful read and one that makes a change from the usual books I usually read. It did take me a while to connect to this read, and the characters but as the story progresses and the story gets more developed I began to really enjoy the read!
This author has a very intriguing and engaging writing style. She has created some inspiring and strong characters especially Violet. This was an eye-opening read that I didn’t expect to be as captivating as it was. Most of the time I was on the edge of my seat wondering what could happen next. This read is full of mystery, danger, suspense and packed full of action. I loved reading the description of Kuwait, I could mentally visualise everything I read which made it that much mor enjoyable. There was some dark twists and turns within the book, such as theft, assault and many more but it added to depth of this book. It was great to see the friendship blossom between two unlikely people in Violet & Sabah, but it helped both of them in certain ways.
For this being a read I wouldn’t normally read, it was surprised how much I enjoyed it and was compelled to read it and the characters stories. It’s a read that should be experienced by all.
Wow! What an action packed, emotional story!! I loved it…then I was irritated at certain characters then I was surprised and shocked. This book covers a wide gambit of emotions but never doubt how much I enjoy reading this book. Immensely! This picks up nicely where the last story left off. I would highly recommend reading book 1 (Can’t Remember) before enjoying this one. You would get the full feel of the story.
I have to say in the first book I was frustrated in who ended up with who. I really felt Finn and Beta (Elizabeth) should have been together. So with that being said i struggled with the idea of Marin and Beta. As the story moves forward I really saw the devotion between Elizabeth (Beta) and Marin. Their love felt deep in this story. So that made me feel better. Finn…this guy…he doesn’t give up easily. He wants Beta (Elizabeth). Elizabeth (Beta) loves Marin and Marin loves her. Love triangle at its best! I root for Finn because of the way Marin is acting but then Finn acts like a jerk and Marin is back in my favor. Although Marin frustrates me a couple times in this story. How Elizabeth (Beta) can choose keeps me perplexed.
We get to see some of the old characters (Yay!) but then meet a slew of new ones ( boo-Zara) as well. They all help the story along without overtaking the spotlight away from the main characters. We are finding out more and more about Elizabeth (Beta).
I enjoyed this book immensely! Drama and action filled this book and kept me easily entertained. I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. I need to find out!

The Nearness of You is a wonderfully romantic and captivating story by the extremely talented K.G. Fletcher. I absolutely love Ms. Fletcher’s books and have fallen in love with every single one I have read!! She has a warm, sexy, almost lyrical style to her writing which really lends itself to the beautiful stories and characters she creates. This book was almost like watching an old Hollywood movie, but with a modern spin. Speaking of movies, this story would make a fabulous film!! The story is so perfectly sexy and romantic, with just enough tension, sparks, emotion, and drama to keep things really interesting. As I have come to expect from Ms. Fletcher, this story played quite a fine tune with my emotions, I really was emotionally invested in the characters and the outcome of their story- feeling everything they went through right alongside them. I was completely hooked, right from the beginning, because it was so easy to read and so very easy to love Lauren and David. These two are really quite wonderful- lovingly created and fully developed individuals who were both so endearing. They had a sizzling connection, and their chemistry sparked right off the pages. David is a famous male model who’s in town to attend his sister’s wedding. I loved him so much, he’s quite the swoony one, a perfect book boyfriend to add to my collection. He definitely has a ‘David Gandy’ feel to him, not that I’ve met Mr. Gandy in person, but I can imagine that he would be a lot like this David. Lauren is a real sweetheart, a wonderful singer who dreams of making it big on the music scene someday. They meet, and the sparks ignite. David introduces her to his world and things get really interesting. Is he looking for something permanent, or just a diversion? Can she get her head around his somewhat crazy lifestyle? Will these two find the happiness they’ve both been searching for? This gave me all the ‘feels, and then some! So worth the read!!

5 Star Calling the Curveball :A Lawson Family Novel By Tracey Cramer-Kelly is a second chance romance novel. I absolutely loved this story and the emotional rollercoaster ride it took me on.This author knows how to weave a story to make you feel like you are apart of it as well. This story at times pulled my heart strings. I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading. I just simply love both characters Kira and Jamie. I felt the emotions the characters were feeling Jamie is a chiropractor who lost his dream of playing baseball by an accident. Kira is a teacher who is smart , caring , and beautiful and also attracted to Jamie.Can these two have a relationship? Will they get their HEA?I highly recommend reading this book to find out! I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next.

The Confectioner’s Exile is the prequel to The Confectioner’s Chronicles (Book #0.5) by Claire Luana. This is a novella length story, which made it a very quick and easy read. Though it may be short in length, it’s definitely not lacking in content, as it swept me up on an adventure to discover Hale Firena’s story and how he came to be where he is now. I love him in The Confectioner’s Chronicles, so I was intrigued to know more. And what a story he has, it was far more complex than I imagined, and he has definitely been through a lot and had to grow and evolve along the way. I really liked the story and thought it was a great way to set up the rest of the series. There was a bit of a slow start, but things picked up pretty quickly and the story took off. A great addition to the series. Can’t wait for Book #2!

Beckoned Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica by Aviva Vaughn is an incredible slow burn romance. I have been impatiently waiting for Soren’s continued story since I finished the last book. His character is one that I really connected with and I couldn’t wait to read more about him and his intriguing character, and boy I certainly wasn’t disappointed with this book. I loved how his character developed over the course of the story, it felt as if I was watching the real Soren shine through. Being that this is the fifth book in the series I would strongly suggest reading the first four books of this series before diving into this one as each book continues where the last one left off.
I have been a huge fan of Aviva’s ever since I read the first book in the Beckoned series, her stories always manage to pull me right in and leave me feeling all kinds of emotions. She writes with so much detail that it’s easy to picture everything playing out in my mind, which makes it highly entertaining, plus it feels as if though I have travelled the world alongside these characters as they go through these journeys in their lives.
This is a series I would highly recommend to anyone looking for their next romance read! It’s a series you won’t want to miss!

The Confectioner’s Exile: The Confectioner Chronicles Prequel Novella By Claire Luana This is the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be my last. I really enjoyed reading this prequel, I am going to read book 1 because I want to know where this story goes. In the beginning of this story Hale is a rich spoiled playboy living a pretty good life. One day that all changes for him and his family and they end up on the run with nothing and trying to survive. In the beginning of this story I really didn’t like Hale but I I grew to really like him especially watching him change and become a better man, I found myself rooting for him. This story drew me in right away and kept me entertained throughout especially with all the action. There are some twists and turns and moments of anger and sadness, all the things for me that make a good book. I recommend this book.
Alterations Trilogy: Alterations, Game Changer, Primal Will by Jane Suen Four Stars
This trilogy is about making the changes to yourself that you find bad. You have a chance to be better than you ever thought. To take those imperfections and make them perfect or disappear. Dr. Kite isn’t right in the head. He wants to make everyone perfect. This series was a little scary. Not the jump out the closet as a clown scary but as in this could actually be happening. You get a glimpse if all three women throughout each book. Their lives are forever changed so in good ways others not so good. Dr. Kite seemed to not comprehend the effects that the chip had on his subjects. Overall the series was a interesting read. The author draws you in with the unknown. Though I would’ve liked to go deeper into the details about each character. It was hard for me to get to know each of the characters because the chapters jumped around.

I think that this has to be my favourite story by this author so far. I absolutely loved reading Lauren and David’s story. Lauren is one of those character who you instantly find a connection with, she is genuinely really nice and a real down to earth person. David had that British charm that I really love and I adored him! The romance between the two was so sweet and I thought that their connection was really natural and genuine. There was a bit of angst running through the story with a certain secretary! One of the things that I love about this author is her ability to make me feel like I am right there living the journey along with her characters. Her attention to detail is amazing and she really brings her stories to life. As always I will definitely be looking forward to the next book from this very talented author!

The story The Confectioner’s Exile: The Confectioner Chronicles Prequel Novella by Claire Luana is a fantasy book. It is a story that will grab your attention from the very beginning. It has action/adventure and danger. The story tells about Hale Firena before he joined the Confectioner’s Guild. His life was one of ease until it was turned into turmoil. He was forced to run for his life. The turn of events has Hale feeling guilt and regret. Will Hale be able to keep one step ahead of those who want to capture him? Will he be able to outsmart those who are after him? Read this book to find out. Hale has to learn to adapt to the situations that he now finds himself in. His old life has to be left behind. Hale has always been one who has luck on his side. Will his luck continue or will it fail him? I enjoyed reading about Hale and the interactions he has with the other characters that you are introduced to in the story. His story is one that moves at a fast pace and will have you wondering what is going to happen next. It is wonderfully written and a book I would recommend reading.

We start this story were book one stopped. Gwen is in a cycle of uncertainty. With her mom in the hospital and her boyfriend MIA. You can definitely see a difference in the writing from book 1 and book 2. It was a smoother read. Gwen’s character has some growth but you can tell she still holds a lot back from others. You can also see that she is holding a lot of resentment towards her mom. It all seemed a little too perfect. I love a good HE A and this story ended well. You see A change in a lot of the characters. The biggest was Kame and Gwen’s dad. Over all it was a good ending that made you have a little doubt to it being over officially like maybe we might get a third book. Reviewed by @gguerrero89
Beckoned, Part 5: Adrift in Costa Rica Aviva Vaughn 5/5 stars
Adrift in Costa Rica is the installment to Aviva Vaughn’s Beckoned series I didn’t know I always wanted! When I read the first four books in the series I was completely hooked, not wanting to put them down until they were finished, sneaking pages into pockets of time in my day, you get the picture. There is something about Aviva Vaughn’s style of writing that captivates you in an almost poetic way but without becoming too wordy. I feel as though I hang on every word throughout these novels. Admittedly when I read the other books in the series I wasn’t too connected to Soren so I wasn’t sure what to expect from Adrift in Costa Rica. As usual I was completely hooked from the very beginning. I enjoyed the recap from how Angela’s story ended and seeing Soren’s perspective, it truly painted him in a new light. The retelling could have been dull and repetitive but the raw emotion and vivid imagery of each scene really made this portion of the story feel new. I could write a novels worth of how I feel about this story so I will try to wrap it up. I loved the character growth as we learn more about Soren and his relationships both romantic and with his family, but also as he learns more about himself. So many books are centered around the woman rebuilding herself after heartbreak, I really appreciated this perspective, especially after feeling as though this wasn’t a relatable character in the past. I’ve mentioned in a previous review how much I love that each and every chapter has a title itself, I’m pleased to see that the work and effort put into this persists going even further to include a soundtrack to go along with the chapters, and a book club question list!

Michael’s Heart by Lori Thomas Harrington is a beautifully written contemporary romance novel. I had never read any of this author’s work but I loved, and was very moved by, this book that I’m sure that I will definitely read more of their work. The characters and the story were wonderful and I was gripped by this book from the very beginning. The story revolves around Colbie. Colbie is a classically trained musician whose life completely revolve around music and her daughter Lyric (love that name). She has entered a music competition to work as a music composer for a large TV company, which has a prize of $100,000 which she plans to use to fund a refuge for women and girls who have unplanned pregnancies and are needing support. While on the operating table after a car accident Colbie briefly dies and in that moment meets the love of her life Michael. This meeting with Michael shapes Colbie’s life, both in her relationships and her music. This is a beautiful story which explores Colbie’s life after ‘meeting’ Michael. We see how this shapes her thinking about life and relationships. In her new role with the TV company we then meet some new amazing characters who play a huge role in Colbie’s life, particularly Will and his daughter Sydney. This story is so moving in parts that I would recommend that the reader has some tissues to hand. It really does tug at the heartstrings. A must read!

Can’t Forget (Solum Series Book 2) by Colleen S. Myers is a Sci Fi story and the second book in the series. The book could be read as a stand-alone, but I strongly suggest you read the first book to get the back story of the characters and the world Colleen has created. The characters and relationships are developing and changing as we unravel the secrets of the story. Colleen has done a good job of making everything vivid and imaginable and you find yourself waging war on their behalf. Whilst living in a strange world with different species, Beta is trying to stay safe from the evil who kidnapped her and destroyed her family and friends and the only world she had ever known, Earth. Now her whole world is about to be tilted off its axis and destroy her happiness once again.

This fast paced read was just what the doctor ordered! It was rich in detail and kept me guessing on every page. I loved the characters and how quickly I was drawn in to the world the author created. Quirky and delightful, I look forward to reading this again!

Loved this book. Another wonderful contribution from the author for this series. The storyline was solid, detailed, relatable. It stands on its own well but some characters are introduced in greater detail if reading book one first. Loved these characters and cannot wait to sit down and read this book again.
This romantic thriller is full of rich detail and riveting plot developments. It kept me guessing from beginning to end while taking me on quite an emotional journey. A great book from start to finish.

I loved this book! I gladly rode this emotional roller coaster and enjoyed the journey the main characters took me on. The rich backstory definitely added a depth to the characters that I appreciated. The author does a beautiful job drawing the reader in and allowing us to walk with her characters. It was a beautifully written book and I cannot wait to dive back in for another read. So good.
