No Rest For the Wicked is the first spellbinding instalment in the new Life is Hell series, by Naomi Valkyrie. This is hands down my favourite book from Ms. Valkyrie, so far- and that’s saying something, as I didn’t think she could top her ‘House Valdis’ series- but Ms. Valkyrie certainly pulled an ace out her sleeve with this amazing first instalment. This book had me entranced right from the beginning, I devoured every word, and was completely immersed in the story. I read it in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down. It captured my attention and imagination in such an unexpectedly great way. Naomi Valkyrie has a talent for telling a wonderful, original, and captivating fantasy. Weaving a dynamic story full of texture, layers, and rich detailing. Her clever and imaginative details really bring her story, and characters, to life- and made me feel like I’m there watching it all unfold, as a part of it all. This story has fantasy, paranormal elements, demons, witches, shifters, magic, humour, paranormal investigation, mystery, action, danger, hidden agendas, secrets, sizzling chemistry, a few surprising developments, and wonderful romance. Delilah is a demon who normally enjoys her ‘work’- but lately she just isn’t feeling it. She is feeling burnt out and in need of a vacation, yes even demons need a break. So, she packs her bags and starts to drive, finding herself in Juniper Lake, a small town that looked like time forgot. She’s surprised that she feels so drawn to the place, she is a big city girl after all- but something about the place really appealed to her. So, she finds a place to stay, unpacks, and get ready to relax and unwind. But all too soon Delilah finds herself caught up in a mystery that will test her like never before. So much for the relaxing holiday. But what Delilah discovers turns her life on end, bringing change in more ways than one. I love Delilah with all her sarcastic, snarky, humorous personality- and total kickbutt attitude. Malakhi, what can I say that won’t give away any spoilers, except ‘swoon’. Love all the other secondary characters- so well crafted and interesting. They made reading this story a true delight. Can. Not. Wait. To. Continue. This. Series! Bring on Book #2!!!

This is definitely one of the most interesting anthologies that I have read. All the stories are entertaining, intriguing, and well-rounded. The book contains the work of some authors who I am familiar with, but also has a lot of stories by authors writers are new to me. So, this book has been a fantastic introduction to these new (to me) authors- as well as allowing me to catch up with the work from authors that I know and love. You may have noticed that I have read quite a lot of anthologies lately, as I am enjoying the diversity of stories that can be found within an anthology, and appreciate that I can enjoy many stories that all have a common theme and inspiration. There are 19 superb stories from 19 talented authors. What better way to spend a day than curled up with a book that will keep you entertained with plenty of thrills and chills.

The Opposite Of Addie: A Novel (Friendships & Secrets Series) by Julie C. Gardner. This is a women’s fiction story- full of secrets, second chances, emotion, friendship, family, healing, drama, and more. After reading Forgetting Ophelia, I was quite interested in finding out how this story would unfold, and Ms. Gardner didn’t disappoint. There are a lot of interconnected details and enlightening backstory bridging the two books, as well as important character introductions and information- so reading them both, together, will definitely give you a much better perspective of things, and therefore, will also improve your reading experience. I had a little trouble getting into the groove with this story, but I after a few chapters I finally found the rhythm and got caught up in all the developments. If you have read Forgetting Ophelia, then you know that the characters are really well crafted, with their own all fully developed personalities and backstories- and one of the things I particularly like about this book/series, is the fact that Ms. Gardner ensures that her characters continue to grow and develop as the story progresses. The Opposite of Addie is told from multiple character perspectives, giving us a really well-rounded view of what is happening- while also adding an extra element of interest to the book.

Moonlight and Belladonna is the first book in the Heartwood Holiday Romance series and debut novel by Jae Dawson. This is an original Rockstar romance, with drama, banter, emotion, humor, mayhem, and a small town setting. I was drawn to this story by the intriguing title and the lovely cover- so I grabbed a copy to explore. This book has an intriguing premise, and held the potential to be quite a fun read- while I did like the small town setting, and a few of the secondary characters, I found it difficult to connect with our MC’s, which made it hard to invest in the outcome of their story. I just didn’t ‘feel’ it. I am still intrigued by the potential that this series holds, so I will see what the next book has to offer.

A Hole: by Phoebe Alexander In typical Phoebe Alexander style this story was hot, witty and very entertaining. Ace Bennett is trying to make a name for himself as a comedian. Then he meets Ella and we watch as he tries to win her over. Add some meddling friends to the mix, a few misunderstandings, a little angst, some humour, and a whole lot of heat- really made for a fun read.
The Wolf of Wall Street: by Lucy Eden Aurora Douglas (Rory) knew the ruthless reputation of her new boss CEO Luis Pine, but she is about to discover just what a beast he is, in every sense of the word. This is a paranormal romance with an alpha male wolf shifter who finds his fated mate in Rory. With off the charts chemistry, keeping things professional was always going to be difficult. But having fate at play, as well as a little drama, some angst, and emotion- gave this story an interesting spin.
One Night with A Knight: by Aidy Award “I hadn’t told anyone I’d gotten a waitressing gig at the grand re-opening of the infamous Asylum club. Some billionaire had bought it and was moving to the top floor of Cruz Tower…” Camila (Mila) hasn’t had the best of luck lately, so a night out with friends is supposed to lift her spirits. Hudson is a star player with the New York Knights enjoying time at the Asylum Club with his teammates. Hudson and Camila have a history together and this story is about second chances and how one night can change everything.
44th & Blue: by Jodi Payne Cole and Ben met at a club and have been hooking up ever since. But when Ben’s Law Firm moves into a new high-rise office, he never expected to discover Cole working on the final refurbishing touches. Ben doesn’t like complicated, as his life is perfectly compartmentalized for that very reason. He pushes Cole away- but Cole isn’t won’t go down without a fight. This is a fun, angsty, M/M romance with a touch of emotion that made for a great read.

Felling Bechet: by Stella Williams Sometime love sneaks up when you least expect it. Bechet and Isis have a ‘no-strings-attached’ arrangement that seemed to be the perfect plan. But things take a complicated turn when Bechet takes a fall.
The Glass Tower: by Emily Gray Love is a powerful force. But can it survive hostile pressure intent on destruction? A captivating story that had me flipping the pages to discover how everything would play out in the end.
Make Me Beg: by Moni Boyce This is a great romantic suspense- an enemies to lovers mafia romance with all the elements I love to find in a captivating read. Sexy, steamy, intriguing, and dramatic.
Global City Tryst: by Maida Malby Global City Trust is the prequel to Singapore Fling and is A Carpe Diem Chronicles Novelette by Maida Malby. This is my first read from Ms. Alby, s I really didn’t know what to expect going into the book. What I discovered was a sexy story about a torrid weekend fling that may be more than our MC’s Maddie and Aiden expected.
All the stories in this anthology are really quite wonderful and engrossing- with superb plots, interesting and endearing characters- and each story was well-written. There are some funny, light-hearted and touching moments; some hot and spicy times; some dramatic developments and suspenseful moments- as well as some tender heart-melting romance. There is definitely something here to please everyone. It is worth every cent of the purchase price- 12 books for the price of one! Now that is a bargain!

Shattered Snow is the first book in The Mirror Chronicles by Rachel Huffmire. Wow, this has got to be one of the most original retellings I have ever read. Snow White meets time travel, history and mythology. I was captivated from the moment I read the blurb. The author’s cleverly crafted plot, superb character development, and imaginative details really brought this story to life. Snow White just got a whole lot more interesting, that’s for sure. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

The Magic of Christmas by Christi Barth is a touching holiday romance with all the ingredients needed to make a for a heart-warming Christmas story. It was fun to curl up with this for a couple of hours and lose myself in the story. Rowan and Jeremy are both being considered for the same promotion at the advertising company they work for. They are teamed up to come up with a campaign that will resurrect a struggling Christmas themed amusement park. There is a lot to prove, and a lot riding on the outcome. These two set off on their trip as staunch rivals, but things begin to change as they spend more time together. What happens next makes for a fun and romantic read. I love Christmas themed stories, so it was a done deal as soon as I laid eyes on this book. I could envisage this being made into a wonderful Christmas movie. My favourite of Christi Barth’s books that I have read so far!

A Beach Wedding to Die For is the second book in the Cozy Mysteries to Die For seriesby Judy Moore. As with the first book in the series, this is a wonderful cozy mystery with some very interesting and somewhat quirky characters. There is murder, mystery, suspense, drama, and more. I enjoyed this book and all the intriguing little details Ms. Moore sprinkled throughout the story. And, as expected, Ms. Moore cleverly crafted some twists and turns into the plot which left me guessing and wondering how things would play out. I am definitely looking forward to book #3!

Key To Tirumfall is the third and final book in the Tirumfall Trilogyby J. Drew Brumbaugh. This fantasy series has really captured my imagination- and I can’t believe this is the concluding chapter to our adventures- but what a fantastic finale it proved to be. I think this trilogy would make a great television series or adventure/RPG game. This has a bit of an epic swords and sorcery feel to it- with plenty of action, adventure, wizardry, magic, demons, prophecy, danger, choices, setbacks, friendship, emotion, discoveries, love, family, high stakes- and where our characters will be tested like never before. This follows on from the previous two books, so if you haven’t read Fall of the Western Kings or Child of Prophecy yet, I highly recommend you do before embarking on this third adventure. Knowing what happened in the other books will definitely enhance your reading experience of this story. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Tompkin’s School For The Resurrected is the conclusion (Book #3) to the Supernatural Academy Trilogy by Tabi Slick. As with the other two books, it is quite an original young adult paranormal academy story- with magic, friendship, danger, drama, mystery, action, adventure, suspense, ‘powers’, tension, chaos, opposing forces, paranormal and supernatural elements, and all with crucial time slipping away; all woven around some first-rate world building. I think this is probably the darkest of the three books- which I thoroughly enjoyed, pulling me in right from the beginning. I found myself avidly reading every detail to discover just how things would play out in the end. Ms. Slick definitely left the best till last. I really recommend reading books one and two before starting on this one- so you have all the information you need to fully appreciate this intense finale. I am definitely curious to see what Ms. Slick does next and how she plans to top this series.

The Mummy of Monte Cristo is my first read by J. Trevor Robinson. As I hadn’t read any of his work before, I really didn’t know what to expect going into this book. But as it is a dark(ish) take on the classic ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, which is a favourite of mine, I was quite intrigued to discover what lay under the cover. This has quite a clever premise behind this adaptation- a tribute to the original, but with its own unique identity; as well as some wonderful historical details, magic, monsters, danger, hidden agendas, the supernatural, action, adventure, drama, suspense, a little mystery, and horror themes. The characters were interesting and well developed- with their own identities, quirks and flaws. They definitely made the story more intriguing. This is quite a long story, and there were times I felt the story lagged/dragged a little- but this didn’t really detract any from my overall enjoyment of the book. I won’t go into any detail, as I don’t want to spoil the twist on the original- that is something you will want to discover for yourself. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for more from J. Trevor Robinson is the future.

Logan McKenna has been through a lot over the course of the series- and this story sees her in a predicament she could never have predicted. Life seemed to finally be back on track- and the future looked bright. But then on a well-earned vacation with her family, Logan finds herself a suspect in a murder investigation- and things begin to get complicated as she will need to deal with her past as well as make a crucial decision that will impact her life. So, get set for a murder mystery that also touches on loss, healing forgiveness, family, love, and community- while delivering on the drama and angst.

The History of the Universe: As His Soul Remembers by Stuart Ledwith is another instalment in the ‘As My Soul Remembers’ series. As with the other books of Mr. Ledwith’s that I have read, it is quite an original offering. This book takes us to the creation of the universe- spanning space and time- and introduces various concepts to do with religion, spirituality, faith, love, theology, philosophy, God, creation, the multi verse/multi-dimensionality, dogma, the search for meaning in life and the universe, and the search for understanding. The story is a little confusing at times and definitely gets a little wordy in places. But I did appreciate the amount of blood, sweat, and soul that the author put into this book and his unique take on things.

Age of Druids is the ninth and final book in the Druid’s Brooch Seriesby Christy Nicholas. I can’t believe we’ve come to the end of this great series. I was torn reading this book- between wanting to see what was in store for us, while at the same time wanting to draw the story out and not wanting it to end. This is a historical fantasy- with paranormal elements, drama, adventure, action, Fae, magic, and family. As with all her other books, I really love that Ms. Nicholas manages to bring her stories to life- making them so very realistic and entirely believable. That ability always makes the story more fascinating for me- by capturing my attention right from the beginning. Even though this is the ninth book in the series, you could read it as a standalone- But having said that, I recommend reading all the books, in sequence, to fully appreciate the interconnected elements, intriguing details, and merging storylines which help to build a much ‘bigger picture’. I saw so many connected details from/with other books in this series- and felt like I was finally seeing the ‘whole’ picture. A fabulous conclusion to the series. Now I am looking forward to seeing what Ms. Nicholas has in store for us next.

Thunder On the Moorwas the debut novel by Andrea Matthews. It is a descriptive time travel fantasy- with history, adventure, action, discovery, family dynamics, romance, danger, murder, tragedy, betrayal, tension, rivalry, a bit of a love triangle, drama, angst, some suspense, and emotion. The story is set in Scotland, which the author did a good job of capturing- right down to the dialogue and descriptive elements- as well as crafting all the authentic historical details. To be honest, though, I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to enjoy this story, as there seems to be a bit of a flood of Scottish ‘time travel’ stories on the market lately. But I can never seem to pass one up when they appear on my recommended book list- so, I took the plunge and grabbed a copy. This may have similar elements to other books in the same genre, but it does have its own unique identity and original details. It did take me a little bit to get into the story and there were times where the story was a little slow going. And I did find it a little hard to connect with the characters, but this my simply be my own high expectations, as plenty of others will probably have no issues- or it may simply be that this is a debut novel and the author is still working things out. Either way, I will be interested to read more of her work in the future.

Kismet Heart: A Protector Romance is the first book in the “Surviving Love” series by Brinda Berry. It is a fast paced, action-packed romantic suspense- full of mystery and intrigue. The story has a wonderful blend of nail-biting action and suspense, which is then balanced with some emotion and a little humour. Malerie has seen so much tragedy in her short life- and things are about to get even more intense. Ace is assigned to keep her safe- which becomes more complicated than he first expected- and so the story takes off. Well worth the read. It was quite and intense ride.

Bishop’s Gambit is the second book in the Redclaw Origins series by McKenna Dean. This book has so much going on in it, in a good way- from espionage, an undercover investigation, history, romance, paranormal elements, suspense, action, danger, and some unexpected developments-which all made for quite an intriguing read. As expected, the story is really fascinating, and Ms. Dean definitely didn’t disappoint- proving once again that she has a real gift for storytelling! I am loving everything Redclaw, from the Origins series, to the Redclaw Security- I can’t wait to see what comes next!

The Queen’s Dog is the third book in the Empire at Twilight series by N.L Holmes. This is a very detailed and descriptive historical crime story- a bit of a mystery- with enough drama and interesting developments to keep things interesting. I have read most of Ms. Holmes’ books now and am always quite taken with the rich historical details she infuses into her stories. As with the other book of Ms. Holmes that I have read, the authors passion for history is very evident in her writing and this passion definitely added to my enjoyment of the story. As with her other books, this story is a fascinating blend of fiction and historical fact, which is woven into quite an intriguing story. This time, the story is set in a Bronze Age Syrian kingdom called Ugarit- and the age, characters, and storyline come to life with Ms. Holmes vivid detailing. I found this book to be a little slow to get going, which made it hard for me to ‘get into’- but when the pace picked up and the story developed, things got more interesting. This book is told from Naheshi’s point of view- he happens to be the Queen’s slave, and a eunuch- which also added an extra element of interest to the story. So, if you love ancient history and original stories with interesting settings and characters- as well as historical crime fiction, then you will probably want to add this to you TBR. Happy Reading!

The Fire God Touris the third Book in the Moore Family Saga seriesby Michele Sims. I really recommend reading the previous two books before starting on this one to help you fully appreciate the characters and really understand the story. Miles is a world famous musician with a passion for fire- it’s as much a part of him as his DNA- and something he is only too happy to incorporate into his shows. He leads an enviable lifestyle- with anything he desires at his fingertips. But what of the downside of superstardom? Bella Wahlberg is a marketing guru, joining the team as preparations for the latest tour are underway. Soon earning the title of Ice Queen, and with an intense fear of fire, things don’t bode well from the beginning. This meeting of fire and ice really makes for an enjoyable read.

Super Sorry is another fantastic YA story by C.A King. It is full of teenage angst and struggle; a coming of age story with a difference- interwoven with some really wonderful supernatural and paranormal elements. This fantasy adventure is well worth the read- if for no other reason but to meet her trusty sidekick!

Breaking Tessa: A College Sports Romance by T. Christensenis the first book in a new duet, and as the title would suggest, a college sports romance. This is a YA/new adult romance- with a snapshot of college life, basketball, drama, angst, emotion, opposites attract, and a bit of a cliffhanger ending. It took me a little bit to warm up to Jordan and Tessa- I really can’t pinpoint exactly why, but I was interested in the outcome of the story all the same. I am hoping that they will win me over in book two. The characters were well developed, fully realised individuals with their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws which helped to make the story come to ‘life’. Waiting on book #2 to see how things will play out.

The Lies Between Us: A Psychic Romantic Suspenseis the fourth book in the Deadly Secrets seriesby Cynthia Cooke. This is an original and intriguing romantic suspense- with undercover agents, FBI, a cartel, secrets, lies, kidnapping, guns, drama, action, mystery, romance, psychic abilities, and much more. Tom Phillips is an FBI agent on an undercover assignment investigating a well known drug lord and his cartel- building a case against them when his confidential informant goes missing. Things take an intense turn when Tom is captured trying to rescue her. With her husband missing, Cat’s world is about to become quite eventful. Secrets will be revealed, and the danger will mount. There is more to the situation, and characters, than meets the eye- making for a great read. Looking forward to seeing what Ms. Cooke has in store for us next.

Wendigo Forrest is a fantastic YA paranormal story by C.A. King. The story is everything I have come to expect from Ms. King- a well written, intriguing, and engaging tale- with wonderful world building, a little mysteriousness, some dramatic developments, and a bit of spookiness that kept things interesting. This is a very short story, which made for a very quick and easy read- I would like to have read a slightly longer version of this book and be able to immerse myself in the story with more detail, but still an enjoyable book. The characters are well developed individuals who are entirely realistic and believable. I enjoyed meeting Clara, a teenage Fawn, and following along as the story unfolded. Mystery and spookiness ensue- making for a great read!

Love Surreptitiously by Tarrah Anders was a wonderfully sexy and fun contemporary romance. I always enjoy Ms. Ander’s books, and this one was no different- it is definitely one of my favourite reads by her. From an unexpected encounter on a train, as Sydney vented about her job to a handsome stranger- Sydney and Quinn could have never predicted how their worlds were about to collide. Secret and steam. This is an office romance with all ingredients to make a fun read. Looking forward to more from Ms. Anders in the near future…

Reign is the third book in The Larussio Legacy seriesby Via Mari. This is a fantastic romantic suspense series and this book builds on the previous two- there is a lot going for this story, starting with the mafia, then adding of drama, suspense, action, danger, sizzle, romance, a little mystery, and a dose of angst- all wonderfully carried by a really superb cast of characters. As I have mentioned many times now, I have read all of Via Mari’s books now and have loved them all. So, having said that, I really did have high expectations for this story- especially since the other two are soooo good- so I am happy to say that Via Mari definitely didn’t let me down- as this is every bit as good, if not better than the previous two. I was glued to the pages from the start, entirely invested in the characters and the outcome of the story- especially more so having met Gio and Serena in the previous book/s. I tore my way through the pages, devouring the story- and entirely engrossed the entire time. As with her other books, there is plenty of suspense woven through the storyline- the tension in parts is quite palpable and had me on the edge of my seat clamouring to know how it all played out. I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Shattered Reality is the first book in the Summoned Series by C.A King. It is a fantastic story- entirely original, well written, and very clever. It is a modern retelling, based on the ancient story of Perseus and Medusa. Hello, she had me at Medusa- as I love the old myths. We are back in Knollville- where Ms. King has taken us before- so we know we are in for a paranormal treat right from the get-go! There is more to Mudesa Black than meets the eye. The psychologist spends her days helping people solve their problems, all the while hiding her own demons from the world. On the surface, she may seem like she has an enviable life, but Mudesa has worked really hard to get where she is. With secrets that weigh heavily on her mind- her past impacts her daily life in a way she can’t seem to escape. She is forced to return to her hometown, when her parents are killed. It’s the very place she worked so hard to leave behind, and the place she never wanted to see again. There is more to the situation that meets the eye- but the past seems determined to snatch her future from her grasp. My review may seem a little vague, but that is on purpose, as I don’t want to give anything away. This is the kind of story I really recommend going into somewhat ‘blind’ and letting the author, and story, surprise you. This is a wonderfully twisted tale that definitely kept me entertained. Another great read from Ms. King’s limitless imagination!

Faerie’s Magic is the first book in the Season’s of the Faeby Jessica Feyden. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Feyden, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect from one of her books. But the beautiful cover captured my attention, and the intriguing blurb sealed the deal. A one-click later and I was diving in, ready to set off on this wonderful adventure. Mira, the princess of the Summer Court, has no idea that her ‘normal’ day of hunting in the forest would end up in a battle between the Fae and the Norn (shifter/witches) where she gets up close and personal with one of the enemy, and her hunting skills come to the fore. She also discovers her powers have been bound. But also, unknowingly, finds her fated mate. There is so much more to this story, but I really don’t want to spoil it for you by giving away too much. So, if you love fantasy, paranormal romance, magic, shifters, witches, adventure, action, danger, hidden agendas, fated mates, drama, angst, and superb world building- then you really won’t want to miss this book/series. Ready for Book #2.

Curse Of the Sands is the second book in the Relic Hunters series by Martin Ferguson. Let me start by saying that this book would make a great movie/TV series. This is an intriguing YA adventure- with action, mystery, danger, historical details, Relic Hunters, wonderful quirky characters, good vs evil, myths, legends, and more. As I mentioned after reading the first book, the story/series has everything you need to make it an enthralling read, and would make a great movie, or exciting adventure game for PC, Xbox, PlayStation etc. This story has us setting off on an adventure with the relic hunters as an ancient pyramid is uncovered in Egypt. As expected, danger is ever present problem wherever the team happen to be. What unfolds makes for an exciting read. Looking forward to more adventures with the Relic Hunters.

Child of Prophecyis the second book in the Tirumfall Trilogyby J. Drew Brumbaugh. It is a dramatic fantasy, full of action, adventure, magic, demons, prophecy, danger, moral dilemmas, and high stakes. This follows on from Book One, so if you haven’t read Fall of the Western Kings yet, I highly recommend you do before starting this story. There is a lot of important backstory and character information to be found in the first book which will enhance your reading experience here. We pick up with Gant and his friends a few years after the events in the first book, as they set off to save the day once again. A prophecy of evil places the fate of the world in their hands and thrusts them on an epic adventure. As with the first book, this is quite an original story, and once again the world building was well developed, richly detailed, and entirely believable.

East Beach is the third book in the Red Farlow Mysteries series by W.F Ranew. This is an in intriguing murder mystery, with crime investigation, PI, drama, danger, drug dealers, and some surprising developments. I enjoyed the previous book, but this is definitely my pick of the bunch, so far. Red Farlow gets a strange message from a friend that has him concerned. When he arrives, he finds his friend on death door, having been shot. With his final words ringing in his ears, Red is determined to discover who shot his friend and why. And so the mystery begins. As with the previous books, this is a detailed and descriptive story that is cleverly woven. There were a few minor issues for me, but they didn’t detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the story.
