Betrayal (Choosing Family Series) by Jennifer Raines – Review by Barbara Bohls

Betrayal (Choosing Family Book 3)Betrayal by Jennifer Raines
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book three in the series and the first that I have read in the series. I will say that this book can be read as a stand alone or with the series. I didn’t feel lost or confused with characters by not reading the other two books first. I can tell that the characters do ebb and flow throughout the books because of the way they are written but if I’m not mistaken each book deals with a different set of characters. Speaking characters, these characters are really well developed and you can feel their emotions throughout this book. They even evolve throughout the span of the book, which I feel is amazing have in a book. This was a very quick read for me as I couldn’t put it down. There is the normal circumstances of contemporary romance which is each character has their own previous baggage and they are trying to see if it is worth working through that to be with one another. However, this book has a bit more to it. There is secrets and lies. The title is there for a reason and it had me turning pages to find out what happened next. There is that push and pull between he characters with their passion and angst. I highly recommend this book to any contemporary romance lover because they will love this book and get hooked into it right away. If you aren’t a contemporary romance lover, I feel like you would still enjoy this book because of the twists and turns it takes and the constant ability to keep you on the edge of each page.

The Final BiteThe Final Bite by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a really good book. I feel like the author was able to cram so much information into this book, that it really could have lasted longer. It is a very quick read and an amazing short story. There is so much depth logged onto the pages that you don’t really notice how short of a story it is. This book will definitely leave you craving for more. There are so many different paranormal things happening in this book that it could really take you anywhere at any given moment. There are vampires, werewolves, witches and romance. The magic that these characters have and the suspense that they are involved in is what kept me turning the pages. The romance didn’t feel forced but really flowed well with the story line. This book is just really well written and I can’t wait to read more.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was really well written and so descriptive to where the characters feel like my besties and the whole thing was being acted out in front of me. Being able to just lose yourself in the book but not feel like you are reading more like watching a movie unfold, is amazing. I wasn’t able to put the book down because I had to see how things went and what happened next. There are points where it is almost like watching a tennis match, where your head whips from each side of the court, because you are caught up in who will the leading female choose. Each of the crushes have amazing qualities but you also get to see a little ugly because let’s face it, when it comes to a little competition, there is always some ugly. It is in those ugly moments where you feel for the characters and the book becomes more real to the reader. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. I would highly suggest this book to anyone looking to be entertained and have an escape for a little bit, this is where they should go. I can’t wait to read more from this author because if they are anything like this book, I won’t be disappointed.

Fate, Frankincense & FuneralsFate, Frankincense & Funerals by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This isn’t the first book I have read by this author and I am finding that I am always blown away with how well written her books are. This is a shifter book that doesn’t center-around the normal everyday shifters. This book has jackals, bats, and vultures. These are not in the norm of any shifter books I have read. There is also a twist by it being M/M. I am not as well versed in reading M/M but this book did not disappoint with that aspect at all. There is some spice to this book which just adds to the thrill of turning the pages. This books perfectly pieced together and the words just flow off the pages allowing you to visualize everything that is going on in the book. I love the character development that happens in this book. There is a struggle with the circumstances of the shifters in this book that each of the characters must overcome. That made this book a super quick read for me because I was dying to know what happened and I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I am constantly trying to solve what is happening before I actually get there in the books that I read. I found myself not able to predict what was going to happen which makes this book even more special.

Unmasking A Cowgirl (Match Made in Montana Book 3)Unmasking A Cowgirl by Rachelle Paige Campbell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the series and can be read as a stand alone or in any order in the series as each book follows a different couple. This is a slow burn romance that builds throughout the book. This book had me going through so many emotions while reading it. There is this tension in the book that you can feel while reading it. There is the push and pull in the beginning because both of the characters really didn’t like each other. So there is the simmer or romance building right from the start. The characters grow on you as you read the story. I wasn’t sure I was going to like either one of them right at the start but boy am I glad that I kept reading because I sure did really end up liking the strong personality of Abby. Joe took a little time to grow on me as a great character but by the end of the book, I felt like I could be his friend. Some secrets come out in the book and that is the catapult of the story line. I feel that the book is a quick read and could be read in one day. I like that it was a quick read because the story line continued to flow easily. There didn’t seem to be a lot of extra fluff and it didn’t feel like it dragged on. This book was a really good read and I highly recommend it.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 7th book in this series and can be read as a stand alone. It is also one of many that I have read by this author and each time I read one of her books, I am reminded why I like them so much. This book has everything that you could want from a second chance romance stand point. I like the twist where the female is the one that left in pursuit of her dreams. It gives it a little twist that isn’t in most second chance romances. I also, really enjoyed the male character and how he is the one that struggled after the break up. It just took some different perspectives that really made me enjoy the book. It is a quick read and you won’t be able to put it down because of how well it is written. This books showcases the struggle that can happen within families when someone takes an ex back and how outside interference can effect relationships. That said it was amazing. I am looking forward to reading more from this author cause I have yet to be disappointed.

Release (Rewind #5)Release by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fifth and final book in the series and I have not read a book quite like this before. I loved how the author gives the reader a bit of an update of the characters from the first four books. It really helped tie everything together and I am a sucker for finding out more about the characters from the other books. I highly recommend reading the other books in the series so you can fully understand what is happening. This is a collection of short stories about each of the other books. It doesn’t mix the characters in each story but it does tie them together in a way that makes it a very nice flowing book. There is the steam, romance, and there is still a little bit of drama. I can say that this book really just put a great closure on the series and really helped the reader stop wondering what happens to these amazing characters. It is set 3 years in the future from the last book. I just really love being able to see what is happening to the characters that I have fallen in love with through out the series. This is a must-read after you’ve read the rest of the series. If you happened to pick this book up first, please go back and read the rest of the series so you can fully understand what each character when through to be where they are in this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. Each book follows a different character, so you might see names that you recognize throughout the series in each one. This book is extremely well written. It captures your attention right off the bat and continues to entertain you throughout the book. There is the broken leading male that feels he is undeserving of things in his life. The love of a good woman and his biker friends might be enough to pull him out of the self imposed exile that he has been in. This book has everything y0u would expect from a motorcycle club romance book. There is the danger, drama, steam, love, friendship, violence, and redemption. Giving all the things in the book, you will be on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, cried, got angry, screamed, and swooned while reading this book. The emotions that it was able to pull out me has made me want to read everything this author has published because this book was just that good. I just can’t wait for the next read. You won’t be disappointed in this book and I highly recommend reading the other book in the series.

Back in the Ring (The Predator #4)Back in the Ring by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 4 in the series and it did not disappoint. It was just as good if not better than the first three books. This book can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the whole series. The characters are sprinkled throughout the other books, so you have an idea of who they are. Plus, you are able to get a deeper connection with the characters. If you choose to read this book first just know that you won’t be disappointed. You will be able to gain that connection because of how the book is written. I love a good second chance love story and I love to see growth of characters. This book has both of those things. These characters have been through some stuff in their lives and they are hesitant to move forward because of the past trauma. The growth allows them to believe again and fall for each other. The emotions that this book was able to pull out of me was shocking but felt cathartic at the same time. It was a quick read because I couldn’t put it down. I am just a huge fan of this series and the books keep getting better and better. I love reading the evolution of the characters in this book. It has everything a great romance would have; love, steam, push and pull, character development, and being a page turner.

This is book 3 in the Predator series and if you haven’t read the first two books, I highly suggest that you do so you have some background information. Each of the characters for these books are introduced in other books in the series. I tend to enjoy that when reading a series because you get glimpses of what might be coming next or you get to see your favorite characters living their lives. This book is a super quick read not only because it is just a book you don’t want to put down but also because it is a shorter book or seemed that way to me. Before, I go into why this book is amazing please do take note that you don’t have to read the other two books in the series before this one, as it is considered a stand alone. So if you do read this one, first just know that the other books in the series are just as good and you won’t be disappointed when you read them. This book has passion, drama, secrets, character baggage, love, and triumph. There is a past that helped shape one of the characters and they have to figure out if they can overcome that in order to have a fulfilling life of love that they deserve. You will find yourself feeling all the emotions of the characters. You will be rooting for them as they figure things out. You will finish this books feeling at peace with everything that happened and how things ended. The being said I am not going to give anything away. You will find out yourselves when you read this book. I can’t wait for more in this series. They are so good.

This is a great read. It is an emotional roller coaster. As a reader, you will feel every emotion of the characters. It is such a well written book. It is the second book in the series and it does have a over lapping of characters. I find that I love books that bring the characters of other books back into them or that is how we get introduced to the new characters for future books. You don’t necessarily have to read the first book before this one but you will want to. This book has every emotion you can think of: angst, suspense, drama, love, sadness, and steam. There is a balance between all the emotions that you will experience but you WILL experience them all as you read this. This book was a quick read for me because I found myself not being able to put it down. This book kept me turning pages to continue on. It allowed me to build relationships (in my head) with the characters. I wanted to be friends with all of them. After reading the first book and having been left on a cliff hanger, I knew I needed to read this book. I was not disappointed at all. Since this is the second part, I highly suggest reading the first one to understand what is going on because It does pick up right where the other left off. I was fully engrossed with this book and everything that was written on the pages. I didn’t and couldn’t put it down. I was so engaged in it, that everything else was put on hold in my life until this book was finished. The said, this book is a quick read. lol. It contains all the steam, angst, love, drama, plotting, scheming, suspense, and emotions, that you could ever want in a book. Even though this is the second book in the series I felt like it was even better than the first. Might be because it is the conclusion of the couple but I just felt like this one was a quicker read than the first. There is so much drama and scheming going on with people in this book that I was feeling all of the emotions and getting frustrated with people around me for no reason at all. They were just breathing but I couldn’t handle that and everything that was going on in the book. I can not wait for the next book in this series.

The characters in this book are amazing and you will feel like you want to be their friends by the end of it. It is a slow burn romance with a bit of spiciness tied into it. The characters have some amazing moments with quick wit and banter. It deals with relationship issues that a lot of people commonly find themselves in and it gives hope to that situation at the end of the day. I highly recommend reading this book because it has everything you could possibly want in a romance reading. This was an amazing read. This book was a very quick read because I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. The main characters are little apprehensive of letting people get close to them. The female lead is protecting herself from her past and the male lead is trying to protect everyone he loves. Their chemistry is amazing and you can feel it in the words that are on the pages. It gives the reader the feelings of the characters and you can’t help but get emotional while reading this book. It has everything that I love about erotic romance books. There is spice, steam, love, chemistry, mystery, danger, action, loyalty, amazing families, and all the mafia vibes. This book was an interesting read. I chose this book based off of the cover alone. I have found that I enjoy doing this sometimes. That said, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I feel that the author took the time to really give the reader the understanding of the world the characters live in. I feel that it is a very quick read because of the flow of the story line. There aren’t any parts where it just lags. I kept turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. It has this whole fantasy side to the book along with a romance. It has a lot of action in this book as well. It was not what I was expecting. The vivid descriptions of the setting and the characters allowed for me to really picture everything. It also gave me a sense of being, meaning I felt like since I could picture it so well in my head; I was actually there seeing everything. The emotions that the author is able to construe will have you feeling everything that the characters do. I am a sucker for books that make me feel. This is two books in one and it was a steamy, quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series because of two reasons; one, I didn’t have to wait for the next book to come out in the series and two, it had some pretty decent steam throughout the book. The two stories are different but have the same strong romance brewing between the main characters. In the first story the FMC has been crushing hard on the MMC and makes some major decisions which leads them down the path that becomes a page turning story. The second book is giving all the push and pull between the main characters and what they think they want and what they are starting to feel they want. It is hard to discuss without giving away spoilers, so I am going to have to leave it there. The story line is going to get you hooked on both stories but the steam is going to keep you turning pages as fast as you possibly can. The fact that I had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next made this a quick read. I highly suggest this book to anyone who loves short series, steam, love, romance, and a great story line.

This book was not what I expected. I picked this book based on the cover and title alone. I didn’t read the blurb that goes along with it because sometimes I just like to be really surprised by what I am reading. I had this whole scenario envisioned in my head as to what this handshake agreement could be about just based off of the cover. I was so, so, so, wrong. It was even better than what I thought it would be. It has romance and steam, that I personally love. It has second chance romance that is always good but this is a slow burn good. The main characters fall deeply in love and then something happens to turn their worlds upside down. I felt the pain that the characters have when going through this. It was really well written to make sure that the reader can be a bowl full of emotions throughout the book. The FMC, in my eyes forgives a little too easily but it flows well with the book. It was a quick read and a major page turner. The MMC has very alpha type energy and inserts himself into situations with the FMC. There is the push and pull that doesn’t feel tedious but spot on for this story. I highly enjoyed it. I might have to pick books based off of titles and covers alone more often. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a little steam, a push and pull romance, and a little drama.

This is the second book in the series and it is so good. First and foremost, you do not need to read the first one before this one to understand what is going on. I do feel that you should read the first one because these books are that good. I liked this story because the setting is a little different then what I am typically used to. I liked that they started their “relationship” only without ever meeting. It is a take on modern day romances that doesn’t get portrayed very often in books. That being said it was a little confusing when the text changed from font type to emails being sent. Once, I got the flow of it things were easier and then the book went seamlessly to the end. I enjoyed the back and forth with the characters and their natural progression and evolution throughout the book. I am a sucker for emotional growth. There is a glimpse into the characters from the first book but they don’t over shadow or draw away from the story line. It is enough tot get your teeth wet to want to read the first book if you haven’t already. There is spice in this book that is really well written. I will keep reading the series because I am a sucker for a strong romance with steam, suspense, moments that catch your breath, and great characters.

It is an amazing heartwarming tale that takes twists and turns that are relatable to the reader. These two friends take a trip to try to work out everything that is going on in their lives at the time. One friend is feeling like there is no where for her to go and is seeing the everything as the end. The other is trying to figure out life without her spouse and a grown daughter. This book deals with some heavy issues that might stir up some feelings in the readers. It deals with depression, suicide, loneliness, but it also deals with strength, courage, finding oneself, and learning to live through what seems like the most. This book not only has the characters going on a journey but takes the reader with them. I was turning pages because I felt myself become so emotional involved with the characters. I needed to know what was going to happen and how they were going to process and heal. I haven’t felt this emotionally connected or moved by a story in a while. This book gets a solid 4/4.5 stars. I really want to give it a 5 star review but I can’t. Let’s discuss everything amazing in this story. It is a second chance love but not love story. The main characters loved each other in the past. They both have issues that they were dealing with growing up. Then the leading male character goes away to become a rockstar. After years of wondering and remember how amazing they used to be the leading female runs away to join him. This has me all drawn into the book wanting to keep the pages turning. They meet but he doesn’t remember her and there are now other issues that they didn’t have growing up. The book is really centered-around what it probably would have been like to be a groupie in the 80’s. It does give you the feel of fast times of rock and roll with everything one could imagine happening backstage. All of this is amazing and the story is really well done. The thing that lowers the stars for me is how frustrated I was getting at the characters. I at times wanted to reach into the book and smack them. The ended had some redeeming qualities for the characters but the majority of the book (after they reunited) had me frustrated. I continued to read the book because the story line was that good. I just really couldn’t support the characters at points throughout the book. That said, it is an amazing read just go in knowing you probably aren’t gonna love the characters until the very end.

The Strategist (WaterFyre Rising Book 5) by Nadia Han – Review by Barbara Bohls

The Strategist (WaterFyre Rising, #5)The Strategist by Nadia Han
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 5th book in the series and my first. I have not read the other books in the series but I will be going back to do that after I write this. The author has chosen to write each book about a different set of characters or that is what I am gathering from reading this one. I feel that if I would have read the others first, I would have more in depth knowledge about all the characters. However, that doesn’t diminish this book at all. As a reader you are able to grab ahold of the ideas that the author is putting to paper. You will find yourself cheering on the characters and really feeling their emotions as the book continues. The writing will have you unable to look up from reading and unable to put the book down when you know you should. Each character in this book has struggled in life and reading how they have tried to better themselves individually and then seeing how they could be even better together. The push and pull with the added suspense of the story makes this a very riveting read. All of this with the chemistry of the characters is what is making me binge read the other books in this series.

Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache Series) by E.L. Roux – Review by Barbara Bohls

Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache, #1)Unrequited Love by E.L. Roux
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am giving this book 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series. It is a good starting point for the whole series. It is a really quick read, a little short. I am giving it 4.5 stars because I feel the author could have gone further with the story line and the characters to make it seems not so rushed. That being said, this is a very good book. It was a great easy read in one day. All the elements are there for it to be an amazing series based off of the start of this book. The mythical world that the author creates really does give the reader a great visualization of where this story takes place. The romance and steam in this book are tastefully done and the story line itself isn’t based just around those elements in the book. I just wanted more and maybe that is what is going to happen with the other books in the series. It did feel a little rushed in the middle of the book, like the author was trying to keep the book at a certain word length or page length. I would have liked to go more in depth but again, this might be fixed in the next book in the series. Either way, it is a good read and I did get caught up in the story which is always the goal. I look forward to reading the rest of the series because it is a great start. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a quick supernatural escape and a book they can finish in a day.

Kris & The Cowboys (The Adventures of Kris) by Art Blegen – Review by Barbara Bohls

Kris & The Cowboys: The Adventures of KrisKris & The Cowboys: The Adventures of Kris by Art Blegen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a super cute story for beginning chapter readers. I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into a series at book three, however; I was so amazed at how much character depth there was. I felt like I didn’t miss anything starting with this book. That said, I know that there will be some additional information in the earlier books but it doesn’t give the reader that feeling. I think that the words in the book will be easy for age group of 6-10. Okay, maybe 6 with some adult help. I also feel that the story is engaging so it will make even the most reluctant readers want to continue with the series. It is hard to find a book let a lone a series that will keep the kids wanting to follow along in the adventures. This is a quick read for more advanced readers but it also allows those just starting to find their footing in reading the ability to feel accomplished when finishing a chapter book. The kids will want to keep up with Kris and will be excited about the next adventure.

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi Series) by C.A. King – Review by Barbara Bohls

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1)Evil Sushi by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this book to read because of the cover. It seemed to intrigue me and it seemed so different from anything I have read recently, so I figured why not. To say that I was not expecting anything that happened in this book to happen, is saying the least. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the theme of this book. I was thinking maybe post apocalyptic or something along those lines. It is not. It is actually written very currently. I did enjoy that part of the book. Let me rephrase that, I did enjoy this book. I only gave it 4 stars because I felt a lack of connection with the characters. The characters are developed but there is a miss-connect between the story and the reader. Other than that, this book had a current and new look into the paranormal. It made me want to keep turning the pages and continuing to see what was going to happen next. I was very pleasantly surprised by what was on the pages. It is a fresh concept into a genre that I was not expecting. I will continue to read the following books in this series because maybe the characters will reach out to me in the following books. I am just excited to see what comes next.
