Managing Mischief (Shattered Embrace Series) by Alyndra Quinn – Review by Barbara Bohls

Managing Mischief (Shattered Embrace #2)Managing Mischief by Alyndra Quinn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book of Ashton and Zach. This book did not disappoint. I will start off by saying that you really need to read the first book to fully comprehend what is happening but if you didn’t, you would be able to understand everything that is going on. It just might take a little while to piece things together. This book is not short of steam and passion. It will have you blushing while reading this. It was a very quick read and even though I felt that it could go on forever, it packs a big punch for the storyline in a short amount of time. You will be turning pages as quickly as possible to see what happens next. There is the element of surprise with this book when the past comes lurking forward. There isn’t as many scenes in this book as I thought there would be with it being somewhat centered around a BDSM club. The said, it doesn’t mean that the steam between the characters isn’t there. This is the continuation of their relationship and them learning to really trust each other. They already have trust inside the club but they now need to really trust each other on the outside. This is such a good read and it won’t take you long at all. Again, I suggest that you read the first one because it is a continuation of the characters but you can pick it up quickly if you didn’t. Also, if you didn’t and read this one first, go back and read the first book in this series, it will help fill some gaps that you might experience.

Give Us Bad Boys and BillionairesGive Us Bad Boys and Billionaires by L.M. Mountford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is quite the surprise. I was not expecting the level of steam from this book so quickly and the short stories are amazing. They have a plot, great characters, steam, and are just enough to get you hooked. I flew through these pages so quickly that I was left a book hangover. I found myself so emerged into the stories that I didn’t even move for an hour. The steam that is on these pages did make me blush a time or two because, wow, is all I can say. One of the best things about this book is that there is something for everyone with these short stories. You could read a story a night and feel accomplished or you could read the whole thing in a couple days. (I did that) I really liked the writing style of the author and found that each story contained everything you would want in a full size novel. There wasn’t a lot of fluff that can sometimes happen and the scenes didn’t feel to drag on. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and can’t wait to read more from the author.

The Complete Echo Series (Echo #1-4)The Complete Echo Series by C.R. Alam
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an amazing series. Let start off by saying that I am a sucker for box sets. I love being able to go from book to book without a break or even having to search for them. This story has an amazingly well described setting that you can visualize yourself there. That is just the tip of the iceberg. The characters in this series makes you want to be their friends and to hang out with them on weekends. You will find yourself absorbed into their relationship with each other and the other characters. I even found myself trying to figure to who out of my friends is like the characters in the book. The love stories in each book are endearing in their own unique ways. Each book revolves around different couples but the characters are intertwined that you feel as if you’re reading one incredibly long book. This was a quick read even though it was multiple books. I found myself being drawn from one couple to next while seeing snipers of the other characters. I highly suggest reading this series if you love romance, amazing couples, wonderful meet cutes, and incredibly deep connections. I will find myself back in this series to enjoy these characters in the future because it is just that good, that re-reading it is must.

Fearless Love (The Bennetts of Langston Falls, #5)Fearless Love by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a quick, fast paced read. It is the ending of the series. I feel that if you haven’t read the others in the series you could still read this and then go back and read the rest. There might be spoilers in doing so but it doesn’t distract from the story line. The characters in this book are amazing. The leading female is a single mom who has an amazing career. Her son is a character that you will love. The leading male character is just a really good guy. Those don’t generally exist, like there is normally some underlying issues or trauma that the male has to work through. Not with this book. The leading female is the one with the “baggage” in this story. There were times when I was wondering when the other shoe was going to drop but that didn’t happen either. There is growth for each of the characters and that brings them closer together. There is some steam in this book but you are more focused one the storyline that the steam. I felt like it was a great ending to a series. I am sad to see it end because I’m selfish and didn’t want to stop reading. I was at the end of the book before I even realized it. I highly suggest reading this if you love some small town, single mom, romance. It was just very heartfelt and uplifting to read.

House Valdis Origins: Xenobia (House Valdis, #0.5)House Valdis Origins: Xenobia by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the prequel to what looks to be an amazing series. When you first dive into this book you aren’t sure what to expect. I know I wasn’t sure. I however, learned vey quickly that this is a fast paced book and it is super easy to read. The way the author describes things makes it easy to understand the world that she is creating. It allows you to really visualize every little detail. You will get caught up in the life of Xenobia. She is an amazing character that has so many things going on and she goes with her gut instinct. It is amazing to see her navigate her way through things. I was caught up in this story from the start and it is such a quick read that I can’t wait to read book 1 in this series. I am glad that I read this before book 1, because I am bringing all of this knowledge with me to the next book. If you like Sci-Fi you will love this amazing world and characters that have been created. If you aren’t a Sci-Fi fan, like myself, you will still really like this book because there is more to than just Sci-Fi. I highly suggest reading this series because if this prequel is this good the other books in the series have to be amazing.

The Rise of House Valdis (House Valdis #1)The Rise of House Valdis by Naomi Valkyrie

This is the start of an amazing series. The prequel is a must, before this one if you really want to be able to understand things from the beginning of the book. That said if you haven’t read that, you will still be able to understand what is going on, it will just take a little longer. My suggestion is to read the prequel first and then read this one. You won’t be disappointed. This book is a quick read and sucks you into this amazing world. The vivid imagery is insane in this book. You can actually picture everything and everyone very clearly. I am not a Sci-Fi fan at all but this author makes it easy to read and I actually really enjoyed reading it. The paranormal characters and the twists in the love story help move this book along. You will start it and finish it without even knowing any time has passed. Does the saving a young girl, help the main character with her cause or does it hinder it. That is what I kept asking myself with this book. I love when everything starts to be pieced together. This book I feel ended to quickly but am thankful that there is a continuation that I can read.

This is the second book in the series but technically the third if you read the prequel. This book continues the saga of what the other books started and the vivid imagery that the author describes things really allows for you to be able to picture everything. This book is well written and sucks you in from the beginning. If you haven’t read the other books that is fine, you will be a little lost but the book definitely makes up for it and you won’t really notice. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t read all of the books. You won’t be disappointed if you do. The characters are really strong and make this story everything it needs to be. I normally am not a fan of sci-fi but this reader makes me want to be one so badly. I feel like I am just fan-girling with this author at this point. If you want to be swept away into a different realm and meat amazing characters this series is for you. I will add that this book does leave you on a cliff hanger that you won’t see coming because you will be so engrossed into the book. Makes waiting for the next one hard.

The Mating ChanceThe Mating Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a continuation in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series as it follows mountain lion shifters. I haven’t read books about them before so that really intrigued me. I love that each book can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. I feel that it helps with new readers so they can just start at any point during the series and go back to read the others if they choose to. I would they are all really, really good. This book focuses on the wait that some shifters have to do to find their one true mate. It is also about second chance mating which doesn’t happen in a lot of the books that I have read in the shifter realm. The romance story that flows through the book is also held with the surprises that are in store because of the second mating opportunity. Plus the female lead has a son from her pervious mating. It allows the reader to follow along and be caught up in the story. It makes you want to turn pages faster so you can see what happens. This was a very good read and well articulated. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Critical Care (Chase Care Book 6)Critical Care by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an amazing quick read. I fully enjoyed the characters and their development throughout the story. It has everything you would want in a romance. The push and pull of whether or not they want to take a chance on love again. There is medical jargon that allows you to feel the presence of what they are doing but isn’t so over the top that you don’t understand. It showed a depth of knowledge from the author but made it were anyone could read it and understand. I loved that, I am by no means in the medical field and felt completely confident in what was happening. It does have a lot of super sweet mushy romance in the beginning with endearment that I wasn’t sure I could read the whole thing if it was like that. Then you turn the page and all of sudden there is a suspense plot line that I didn’t see coming. It is amazing to be able to have the romance and the suspense in such a way that you don’t want to put the book down. This read was super quick and I loved every minute of it. This is the 6th book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I have read others in this series so I knew a little of what to expect. Having said that, this was a really fresh take on a story line that I didn’t see coming and I enjoyed every minute of it. Each book that I have read in this series has not disappointed me and it keeps me coming back for more.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I decided to read this book. I wasn’t sure how the characters were going to relate and if this would be a hidden love affair. This one did not disappoint. I love the fact that the main female character has a career and isn’t shown as some needy girl. That made me want to keep turning the pages and finding out more about her. I also enjoyed the fact that she is mom. That isn’t something that we typically see in romance books. The main male character is also a single dad. This story just melted my heart. I love, love and this book had so much love between them. They had a spark and took a chance. It is such a sweet romance story. It kept me turning page after page because I just fell for the characters. This is a quick read and definitely worth it. I feel that this a true classic romance story that definitely hits different. I am normally not one that gravitates towards sports romances but this book was really well done. I feel like you didn’t just get sports or romance, you got a really good blend of both. This book is written in dual POV which allows the characters to have a great banter between them and really allows the reader to be able to get caught up in them. I love when you feel like you want to be friends with the characters and I definitely do with this book. There is angst, steam, love, banter, just super cute things in this book that make you swoon. This book is a really quick read and it had me sunk into it from the beginning. I would say that this author seems to actually really love hockey or did an amazing job with their research. I actually really loved that it wasn’t just about the romance and the pull and tug between battling feelings for one another, it actually had hockey it in. That said the romance in this book is great. Yes, I did roll my eyes a bunch during this book because of the constant, “I want him/her, I don’t want to want him/her.” You get so invested into this book because you want them to work and get over their things to be together because you can see how good they are together. It’s like everyone in the room can feel their tension when they are together and are just rooting for them. I could not put this book down, even as frustrated I got with it. That just means it is a really well written if I am so emotionally involved in what is happening. If you like hockey or love a sports romance, this book won’t disappoint.

This is the second book in this series. I did not read the first one and I had no problem following along. I love that each book it seems is completely able to be read as a stand alone. The way the author writes about the setting, which is the 1920’s, you feel like you are there. It is amazing, you are really able to tell the research that was put into this book to make sure that the author was able to get every minuet detail correct. What really made me want to read the book is the Capone aspect of it. The leading male character is one of his men and the leading female is a dancer. I love me a good mafia aspect of a book. However, I felt that having the book written from the “kept woman” accept is something that I haven’t gotten to experience. It really made me sit there and think about what it would have been like int he 20’s. I highly enjoyed this book and the budding romance between the main characters. I will definitely be going to read the rest of the books in this series. It is really hard to say how amazing this book is without giving anything away. Just know that this is a super quick read and was a page turning experience from beginning to end.

This is the beginning of a series and the first book that I have read from this author. The way the book is described had me ready to sit down with a blanket and coffee to enjoy it. I was able to get into the story right away. The characters were amazingly written and had the growth that I love in stories. The author was able to descriptively write about the scenes and the characters to where I felt like I really understood them and was able to fully picture their surroundings. The spice level in this book I thought was decent. However, with the inclusion of BDSM, I really thought that the spice would be page melting and way more intense. This would be a great starting place for someone who is dipping their toes into reading BDSM. It shows some great things but doesn’t overwhelm the reader. I love the rediscovering that the main female character is doing. It really shows that no matter what you go through or where life takes you, you can alway go back to your roots. If you are looking for a book to take your mind off of things and it was a quick read. This book would be for you. If you are looking to get into the darker side of romance this would be a great way to dip your toes into the BDSM world. I can’t wait to read more from this author and continue this series.

This isn’t the first book that I have read from this author. I will say that every time I read one of her books, I am just thrown by how well written they are. This book was one that I didn’t put down until I finished it. I had to see what was going to happen. The push and pull between the characters and the way the storyline just comes to life right off the pages. I am in love with everything in the book. The steam was just the right amount, the anger between the characters, the push and pull, the childhood friends, and the tragedy that happened. This book has it all. I couldn’t stop turning the pages, I was drawn into the book that I was feeling everything the characters were feeling. I was getting mad at my husband for even speaking to me. lol. I was completely irrational but I loved every second of it. If you want a book to give you all the feels this is one of them. This also could very well be, one of the top reads for the year so far. This was a really quick read and it was definitely steamy. I am giving this book 5 stars because it has great characters and builds an amazing setting. I found that was able to sit down and just read the book without having to stop or pause because of something in the book. I did however, feel that the book was a bit rushed or I felt it was lacking more. Maybe the best way to put it is, that I wish it was longer so it could expand on everything in the book. So lacking isn’t really the word just I needed more. It does have everything it needs to feel complete. I was still really happy with the book. Don’t let my need for more be what sways you from reading it. It is really good and you will feel yourself swoon when you need to and even blush. Elusive Surrender (Sinful Duets #3)Elusive Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is amazing. It has all the brooding, alpha makes that we have all come to love from this series and their fabulous ways that they protect those they love from any danger. This is the continuation of the duets in the Billionaire Bodyguard series and they just keep getting better and better. I love how the author brings that characters from previous books into this, so we can kinda see what they are up to and how they are doing. They don’t play a huge roll but even a line here and there makes me feel connected to those characters that I fell in love with earlier on. These books do not let you down when it comes to steam. The characters are what you would expect a broody, over protective, alpha bodyguard to be. I love how the author always makes her women in the stories have a little sass but they know when they need help. They aren’t all, “I can do this on my own, I don’t need you” or just real ditzy. I love that they have depth and are trying to make something of themselves before they find themselves in hot water, so to say. These books contain the romance aspect, the steam that everyone loves in a romance book, then it also has an amazing storyline. It is like the trifecta of books. You won’t be able to put it down and you will feel yourself projecting the emotions of the characters while reading this. Beware, you could snap at someone next to you because you are so emotionally invested in the books. It is a page turner that I couldn’t stop reading until it was done. Since this is the third duet in the series, I highly recommend reading them in order so you have the background of some of the characters but you would be able to start with this one and go back to the others if you wanted to. You wouldn’t be lost or have an issue figuring things out.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this series. There is something to be said for being able to read all the books in the series one right after another. This series has all the characters that you could possibly want and then some you didn’t even know you needed. I love when a series follows along with all the characters and then you get glimpses of those characters in other books. This has all the romance that you could possibly want in a series while keeping the integrity of the story line. Reading the whole series like this makes it hard to pick your favorite book within the book. You will find yourself being swept away with the words on the pages and unable to put the book down. This will make it a quick read, well as quick as reading 7 books can be. lol. When finished you will feel as if you have added new friends and family to your life. This is a great book that didn’t take much time to read. It is well paced and the story line doesn’t feel rushed. Things are explained and set up for future books. The way that the characters are written makes you feel like they could be your neighbor or your friend. Ok, I wish that I had friends like this but more because of the whole shifter element. You are instantly connected to the characters and who doesn’t root for a bad boy turned good guy. I loved the push and pull that happens with the characters because it is something that you could see actually happening. The pushing away to protect someone from the past, the pulling them closer because you just can’t stay away from them. I love the tenacity that is shown in this book. It was a quick read and there were things I was not expecting which made things even better. It is so hard to not say everything because I don’t want to give any spoilers. Let’s just start this review by saying this is an incredible book with a MMF relationship and it is a steamy one at that. This book is told in multiple POVs, which I feel adds to the overall connection that the reader has with the characters. I love being able to read what they are all thinking. It touches on the past of each character and that helps the reader understand why they are the way they are. Nothing wrong with how they are just what made them into who they are at the present time. All it takes is to answer an advertisement and that is what sets hem on the course of their romantic journey. There is a big surprise at the end that will divinely make your eyes get really big. This book was a very quick read for me as I couldn’t put it down because of the storyline and the steam. The dogs just add to the cuteness of the whole book. This is the second book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. I did not read the first book before this one and I felt like I didn’t miss anything that would make this book hard to understand. What I did feel was missing was more of the background story. I am sure that I would be given that in book one. So, it isn’t super important to read the first one but you might want to, to have a better understanding of what each of the characters are going through and have been through. This book has everything you could possibly think of for a book to have. It has intrigue, mystery, the evolution of characters, and an amazing plot line. Speaking of characters in this book, they will run you through the ringer. I have gone from loving them to hating them back to loving them. It felt like a viscous cycle but it is worth it in the end. I promise. If you have loved any vampire story, this is going to be a series that you will want to read. I am not normally a reader of paranormal, I will but it isn’t always my first choice. However, this book made it enjoyable to read and I will go and read the first one because this book takes a jump forward in the time line of the story. I have a feeling that I will feel even more connected to the characters by doing that. Maybe, I will even have a roller coaster of emotions again.

This is the second part of The Savage Duet and it does not disappoint. This is a dark romance and has so much steam that I was left fanning myself while reading. It is so, so, so good. If you haven’t read the first book in this duo, I highly suggest you do that and then come back to this one. This way you have an amazing understanding as to what is happening. There are many twists and turns in this book. The ending is one that is left to where the author could continue with the story line or leave it as is. I can only hope that we will get more because it was that good. The many decisions that are made by the characters in this book show growth and deep character development. I love when a bad boy can do good things but doesn’t loose his edge. I found myself actually somewhat liking a few characters that I haven’t liked at all. The ending is what did it for me. This book was masterfully written and will have you turning pages faster than you can read them. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat at some parts of the book and flushing at others. I highly recommend this quick paced read because it will have you riveted from the beginning.

This book is really, really good. I am not a sci-fi can at all but this has romance which is my go to genre, so I figured I would give it a go. This is also an author that I have read before and loved their writing style. Lets start by saying this is a more of a sci-fi book with MM romance than a romance with sci-fi. The way the author writes and describes the scenes is amazing. It helped me really be able to visualize what was happening and I got lost in. this unique world that was created. I will be the first to admit that I was really thinking I wasn’t going to like this book because of the sci-fi elements. That was not the cause, I feel the sci-fi really took the story in a creative direction that I would have never thought of and really made the story come to life. The imagery that you are able to create based upon the writing allows for this book to be a quick read. I found myself flying through the pages and when the books ends, it feels like it was supposed to end the way that it did. I didn’t feel like it was lacking anything and it felt whole. There are areas that this could continue if the author wants to but it also is summed up nicely to where you as a reader feel content with how things worked out. This was a great escape. that I didn’t see coming but thoroughly enjoyed.

Triple Trouble at Amberwood (The Amberwood Hall Ballet School Series) by Eleanor Dixon – Review by Barbara Bohls

Triple Trouble at Amberwood: Book Four in your favourite middle-grade haunted ballet school... (Amberwood Hall Ballet School 4)Triple Trouble at Amberwood: Book Four in your favourite middle-grade haunted ballet school… by Eleanor Dixon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 4th book of the series and can be read as a stand alone book. However, if you want more details on what is going on; I highly suggest reading them in order. It will help fill in the gaps of background that you will be wanting in the beginning of this book. This book is a spirited tale that is geared for 8-13 year olds but I feel like if the reader likes a hauntingly tale that isn’t super scary this would work for them as well. I enjoyed the book and felt it was an easy read. So, if your child isn’t to terribly into reading but you are trying to encourage them to do so, this book/series might be a good start for you. It has an easy to follow plot. It has relatable characters or characteristics. The characters sure do know how to get into some mischievous situations. This is what makes the book fun. Does the show go on, will they figure out what needs to be done, or will the ghosts do what they set out to do. These thoughts are what will keep any reader turning the pages. I highly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who has a dancer in their life that loves a little mystery.

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Barbara Bohls

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets #2)Auctioned Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was an amazing book. I couldn’t sleep until I finished it. It was a quick read because I became so involved in what was going on. There is so much in this book that I am having a difficult time trying to say why y’all should read it without giving anything away. You will get so emotionally involved in this duet that you will find yourself talking out loud to the characters and wanting to smack them at the same time. I always think that if you can get emotionally attached to the characters, that is how you know the book is written really well. The suspense in the stories if this duet is amazing. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting with bated breath to see what happens. You will also be blushing at the steam and romance of this story. The only exclaimer I can suggest is to be aware of your surroundings while reading this duet. I say that because I. did walkout loud and groan while reading this and my kids looked at me funny. I found myself having to walk around or to just stand up because of what was happening in this duet. This is an incredible duet that had me physically reacting to what was going on. You will not be disappointed when reading this.

Dangerous Rhythm (The Echo Series Book 4) by C.R. Alam – Review by Barbara Bohls

Dangerous Rhythm (The Echo Series, #4)Dangerous Rhythm by C.R. Alam
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 4th book in the series and it can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading the others first. It is so you can appreciate the authors writing and the way the characters evolve. However, that said, you won’t be disappointed if you don’t read the others in the series because this book is really well written. This book has it all from the chemistry between the characters to laugh out loud moments. The words that are put onto the pages make this story come alive. The relatable moments really connect you to the characters and keep you rooted in the book. It was a fast read for me because I wanted to see what was going to happen next with these characters. The danger that is presented and the thrill that goes along with the danger, makes this book more than just a romance book. It gives you humor, suspense, love, laughter, mystery, intrigue, and of course off the charts chemistry.

Seraphina (Heartstrings Series) by Brooke May – Review by Barbara Bohls

SeraphinaSeraphina by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fourth book in the series and you don’t have to read the other books before this one to understand what is going on. This is the first one that I have read in this series and it was such a cute quick read for me that I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I really like the idea of Cupid’s helpers and the whole romanticized idea that Cupid brings. This story has amazing characters that are quick witted, have a bit of a temper, and have growth for what is needed in this book. This book is realistic in the way that bot everything happens properly the first time and it might take a couple tries to get it right. I didn’t how much I would like that when it isn’t instant. This book was a really quick read for me as I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next. I highly suggest thus book if you are looking to just sink into a book and escape for a few hours. You won’t be disappointed in this choice.

Dreamscape (J.J. Morris Mysteries) by J.N. Sheats – Review by Barbara Bohls

DreamscapeDreamscape by J.N. Sheats
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the series and I did not read the first book before this one. I don’t feel like that made this book any less without reading the first one. However, I can see spots in the book where reading the first one would be beneficial. I would recommend reading book one, first, and then this book but it is not necessary to understand what is happening in the book. I will be reading the first one because I really want some of the background that you are given and really strengthen the connection that you get to the characters. This book is considered a YA paranormal read but I feel like it is more than that. I really, really enjoyed it. It has mystery to keep you on the edge of your seat. It has romance and it has such tangible imagery. It is like the words just fly off the pages and create a picture before you eyes. I found myself being completely lost in the words that I was writing It is a true testament as to how well the book was written. If you are looking for a book that keeps your attention, is a quick read because you can’t put it down, and is amazing at building characters and scenery; this book is for you. P.S. I would highly suggest starting at the beginning of the series.
