Sky to Sea (Crimson Sash Book 2) By Amanda Marin – Review by Lisa Helmick

Sky to Sea (Crimson Sash, #2)Sky to Sea by Amanda Marin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG this author is amazing! She makes me really *feel* the emotions of these two. I am totally involved in their plight! I want them to have a hoppy ending. Just not sure that is going to happen. So every time it goes south for them…my heart plummets I am scouring my mind to see what can be fixed or changed so that doesn’t happen. Then everything just seems to go right and my heart soars! Happiness! But inevitably down… down we go again.

If you can’t tell I really empathize with these characters. The writing is so smooth I can’t believe how easy I get caught up into this story. The characters draw me in and really don’t let go. I think about them even when I’m not reading. I love these two!

This epic YA fantasy has all the marks of a hallmark series. This second book continues to explore a romance in a dystopian world that somehow resonates loudly to today and I believe will ring true to readers of all ages. Neve and Micah are strong characters that I’m thankful to have had another chance to travel through their world with. Marin does a beautiful job writing their story and I love her easy way of telling an epic tale. Loved it from start to finish.

Sky to Sea by Amanda Marin is the second book in the Crimson Sash series. This is a wonderful YA/dystopian story with the main characters, Neve Hall and Micah Ward. Neve and Micah are trying to prove themselves in the New Republic so they can gain citizenship. But the best things are not always easy. The two are quickly put to the test amid the New Republic and the Nations relationship becoming explosive. I highly recommend reading the books in order to get the full story and enjoyment out of this series. This is well written and the characters are great. I really want to know more of Neve and Micah’s story and am awaiting the next book in the series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sky to Sea by Amanda Marin is the is the second book in the Crimson Sash series. This series does need to be read in order to fully understand what is happening.
It had been a while since I had read book one but I found it really easy to pick up from where it left off. I soon found myself immersed back into the characters and their stories.
This book was well paced and exciting. You really have to feel for Neve and Micah. They really thought they had found the place for them to be safe and happy and instead they find themselves mixed up in more turmoil.
The author has done a great job with the continuation of this series and I can wait to see what comes next.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sky to Sea: Crimson Sash- Book 2 by Amanda Marin is a YA dystopian romance that is filled with suspense and action, fear and longing, love and suffering. Amanda paints a vivid and clever picture of the world she has created and her character building is spot on.

Neve and Micah are learning to live a new life after escaping from the Nation. They build their lives on the hope that they will be given refugee status and are doing everything they can to make that happen. But they continue to live with the horrors and the pain and suffering they were dealt before reaching New Republic and now must seek help.

Unfortunately life is never that easy and they find themselves in danger of once again being in the clutches of the Nation.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

Sky to Sea (Crimson Sash Book 2)
By Amanda Marin
5 out of 5 stars

The story Sky to Sea (Crimson Sash Book 2) by Amanda Marin is a wonderful book that I loved reading. It is the second book in a series, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one. It pulled me in from the beginning and I found myself lost in the story. I loved reading about Neve Hall and Micah Ward. Neve is a young woman who is intelligent, strong, and in love with Micah. Micah is a young man who has survived a lot. He is haunted by the past. When he and Neve find themselves in the New Republic, they believe that they will be safe in a land that will be wonderful to live in. What they find is different than they imagine. They find themselves having to prove that they are worthy of citizenship. Not only that they find themselves in the middle of things when tensions rise between the Republic and the Nation. What will happen to them when they are kidnapped by a group of radicals? What does the future hold for Neve and Micah? Read this book to find out. I loved Neve and Micah in the first book and loved reading about them again in the second one. I can’t help but root for them to find happiness. This book had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. The author does a wonderful job in world-building and I felt like I was right there with Micah and Neve. There are other characters that I enjoyed reading about. Some of them are helpful to Micah and Neve, others seem to have their own agenda. This is a series that I would read in order so that you fully understand the storyline. This is a book and series I would recommend reading.

Sky to Sea (Crimson Sash, #2)Sky to Sea by Amanda Marin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sky to Sea is the second book in the Crimson Sash Series by Amanda Marin. It is YA fantasy, with dystopian elements, romance, sci-fi, action, adventure, and drama.
We met Neve Hall and Micah Ward in book one. We re-join them as their story continues. After the events in book one, Micah and Neve really had all their hopes of a happy new beginning pinned on the New Republic. But you know what they say about best laid plans. Tensions between the Republic and Nation rise, which results in Micah and Neve finding themselves right in the middle of it all. Tensions mount, while being torn between the two nations. And expected, Ms. Marin puts them to the test. What ensues is well worth the read.
This was a great continuation to the storyline, and I found it to be just as intriguing as the first book. Another beautiful cover which attracted me even before I realised what the book was. Looking forward to reading book #3.

Thank you, Ms. Marin!

This is the second book in this series, I highly suggest reading this series in order to help enrich your enjoyment. I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. In this installment we get to see Neve and Micah again but one is kidnapped and the center of conflict. San Murs has set terms but the Nation only wants one thing. The twists and turns had me turning pages fast as well as sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what will happen next. I highly recommend reading this book to see what happens to Neve and Micah next.

For Neve Hall and Micah Ward, the New Republic has always represented more than its legends of snowflakes and butterflies. It has also meant hope—and the freedom to love. But reality differs from their dreams. Living in a shelter for refugees, the pair must convince their immigration case manager that they are worthy of citizenship. Failure means deportation back to the Nation—and their deaths.

But assimilating isn’t easy—especially when tensions between the Republic and Nation flare. Before long, Neve and Micah find themselves at the epicenter of the conflict, kidnapped and held hostage by Sans Murs, a group of radicals who won’t surrender until the Nation meets their demands. Sans Murs has named its terms, but the Nation has one of its own: Micah’s return. Torn between two worlds, are they fated to unravel?

Sarah Smiles
By: Sean-Paul Thomas
5 out of 5 stars

The story Sarah Smiles by Sean-Paul Thomas is a YA/Coming of age book. It is a story that hooked me in from the beginning and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished the last page. This is a book that takes you on a journey with the characters and I couldn’t help but grow to care about many of them with each chapter that I read. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Liam and Sarah. Liam is a teenager who has just started another school. It is here that he meets Michael, the school bully. Sarah is a young girl who seems to have spellbound Liam. He finds himself calling her a friend. Liam and Sarah’s days are filled with different adventures. Many are positive, others have them confiding in each other their fears. What does the future hold for both Liam and Sarah? How long will their adventures last? Read this book to find out. This was a story that has heartbreaking moments and others when you want to cheer for Liam and Sarah. The situations that they deal with while living in an adult world will have you feeling empathy for them. There are also other characters that you are introduced to and some are helpful, while others only think about themselves. This is a book that I enjoyed reading and one that touched my heart. I highly recommend reading it.

It was in April 1898 when I, Claire O’Farrell, made a decision that ultimately changed my life forever.
I had never been one to follow society’s “rules”. My oldest friend was a Creole at a time when that simply wasn’t done. Then, I made an even bolder decision by serving as a nurse for the Buffalo Soldiers during the Spanish-American War. By doing so, it was evident to all that I held little regard for the Jim Crow laws.
My choice of working in that camp hospital put me in immediate danger, but after I gave my heart to one of the soldiers there, I found myself caught in the racial violence besieging the area.
When the consequences of my past decisions followed me home, I had no choice but to cling to my faith and pray that I find the path I was meant to travel.

Charlotte Waters came into my world unexpected—dirty, bruised, and broken. No matter how much I attempted to keep my distance, curiosity grew to know her story. Under my gaze she became a woman—wild and willing to love my black heart.

I told myself to never trust men again for as long as I lived. Being sold by your mother’s druggie boyfriend does some damage, you know? So when I meet Hawk McLean, a young man who hides his own unhappiness behind a cold veneer, I’m skeptical.

I heal. I grow. I not only learn to trust Hawk, but I fall in love with him. And that’s a problem, because he left, coming and going in my life like the ocean tides he chased.

Will he ever see me? Or is the gap too wide for love to reach?

Jackson and McDougal come together after bullies randomly target and literally throw undersized McDougal at Jackson in a school hallway. A fight ensues and suspensions are issued. Post fight, Jackson is indifferent to McDougals overtures of friendship, but then the little whiz-kid shows him how he can use his iPhone to block security cameras at a local Rite Aid so they can steal some beer. From there they become fast friends and together they face challenges of family dysfunction, loss and alcohol abuse while bonding over indie music, extreme biking and ways to hang onto their smart strong girlfriends— Lexi and Syd. As people start to exit Jackson life he believes the world is conspiring against him. But with the help of McDougal and his friend Jessica Lee he learns to lean on his strength and goodness as his he is about to confront his greatest challenge yet.

Growing up in a three bed/one bath house with nine siblings in Buffalo, New York it was a just the facts, assembly-line type of childhood. However, one day during my tumultuous teen years in the late seventies that all changed when my exhausted mom uncharacteristically asked several probing questions about how I was doing, what I wanted of life and how I was going to get there . . . totally confounding me. She was supposed to dish out commands and make declarative statements—take out the trash, don’t come home unless you’re bleeding, every time you masturbate it’s a hundred-years in purgatory. She wasn’t supposed ask articulate, inward looking, questions about myself. Self-examination and contemplation, was light years beyond my transactional existence.

Eventually, though, due to a certain amount of aimlessness and failure I did come to consider my mom’s questions and many more which led me to writing. Presently, I am the author of two novels Written In The Stars: The Book Of Molly (2016) and my current book Leaving Jackson Wolf—which chronicles the coming of age story of Jackson Wolf and James McDougal—two fringe fifteen year old boys searching for their power in a complicated unforgiving world.

Presently I live in West Seneca, New York with my wife and three college age children. I have a State University of New York background in English and I love trade paperbacks, quiet black mornings and The Ramones.

My Tragic Life: Prequel to the Brothers of CamelotMy Tragic Life: Prequel to the Brothers of Camelot by Necie Navone
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have read a few of this talented authors books and she continues to blow me away. This is the second book of the Prequel to Brothers of Camelot and My Life series. I love a good coming to age book but this author exceeds my expectations. This series has be read in order or you will be lost. I could not put this book down. I could not help falling in love with these characters once again. It only took me a little over a day to devour this incredible story.

This book picks up where the last one ends. Alessandra is the Princess to the Canzano Family. She is going to the Boss when her father passes it down to her. Alessandra has been training ever since she was six years old. She is now trained to kill and she is even better than some of the men. Alessandra is now a teenager that wants to do teen things but she can’t. She is growing to hate her roll in the family. Alessandra has to be on guard at all times. One day her world is turned upside down. She makes a promise that will change her life but will she be able to do it? Will Alessandra get to live her life or will she stay in the cage her father has her in?

This is my favorite series I have read this year. The storyline has it all love, loss, heartbreak, and healing. You will fall in love with these characters all over again. I absolutely love Alessandra’s Uncle. He is her hero. He will do anything to make her smile. Alessandra is so brave at this tender age. She has seen a lot of violence through her life but she learns from it. All she wants to do is to find true love. This talented author made me cry tears of sadness and joy. I can’t wait to see what happens next to these unforgettable characters.

Seducing Fortune (Serendipity, #3) by Brinda Berry – Review by Colleen Noyes

Seducing Fortune (Serendipity, #3)Seducing Fortune by Brinda Berry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Seducing Fortune is the third book in the Serendipity Series by the talented Brinda Berry. Dylan Mercado, has taken over his father’s car business after his father was forced to retire because of health issues. He has always been a playboy, taking home one woman after the next, never committing to anyone. Emerson, is a former stripper turned housekeeper for Dylan and his roommates, Jordy and Collin. They have always been friendly with each other but after a brief dancing encounter one night they both secretly have feelings for the other. Unfortunately, neither one of them is willing to let down the walls they have built up from their tumultuous past.

Emerson is living life, raising her sister Gabby, working hard and trying to forget about the fact that her father is in prison. She still can’t believe that she was once a stripper but also doesn’t want that to define her. She has spent so long, not letting anyone into her life that she is stunned when Dylan takes her off guard. “I’m normally a good liar. Someone asks how I’m doing and I pull on my hunky-dory mask. Another mentions my dad in the federal penitentiary and I act as though it doesn’t bother me. My real feelings are buried deep, a grave of emotions. No visitors allowed.”

Dylan, has a good reason for not letting anyone in and it’s one no one would ever know. He was left devastated one time in his past, and has found it’s not always better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all. He also comes from a family where money seems to be the only important thing, instead of relationships.

Each of them have their own impressions of the other, but soon discover that they don’t really know anything each other. They discover that their version of the truth may not be the truth at all. “The enormity of my prejudices slams me. It’s not like I expected a silver pole in the middle of the room. But I don’t expect ex-strippers to be ex-homecoming queens.”

While Emerson is working out her feelings for Dylan from afar, she meets Toby a nice guy who wants to date her and just happened to be there when she needed help. He continues to reach out to her, help her in her times of distress, and be compassionate. Her father’s past and misdealing’s soon come back to haunt her and she is left having to fight to survive while trying to protect the ones she loves. She is forced to keep secrets from those around her, but doesn’t realize that the people around her have been keeping secrets a very long time. Not everything is as it seems and things may have been put in motion long before she even realized. The twists and turns this story takes will keep you guessing and maybe rooting for the people you shouldn’t be.

Will Emerson and Toby end up happy? Will she break his heart and take the less safe road to Dylan? Can Dylan, let go of his past hurt and truly be committed to one woman and no matter what they decide will any of them survive?

I loved Brinda Berry’s writing style, which kept the story flowing non-stop. It is refreshing to read a book that has romance, love, pain, sorrow, and so much more without only focusing on the sexual aspects. She writes a classy novel that will be appealing to women everywhere and does a great job of bringing the reader into the characters’ lives.
