Death of a Coupon Queen (Sophie Parker Mystery Series) by Jenna Harte – Review by Erica Fish

Death of a Coupon QueenDeath of a Coupon Queen by Jenna Harte
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Death of a Coupon Queen is the second book in the series, Sophie Parker Mystery. It can be a stand-alone book but you may want to read book one to get the subtle details found in the first book. I love psychological murder thriller books but I am starting to like the simple cozy mystery genre. Jenna Harte is an amazing storyteller. Her attention to detail is what makes this story fun and interesting. The characters are fun-loving and personal. Sophie has a mentor who is a coupon queen who just happens to be killed with her shears. I highly recommend this story for a nice book to curl up, get lost, and leave everything behind.

This is the second part of Avenging Devil, Satan’s Devils MC San Diego. This is an MC Romance novel and is 424 pages. Beware – this may cause some triggers. This story follows Niran and Saffie. This book has it all – ups, downs, happy, sad, funny, tragic. It brings out all the feels. If you were sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for Part 2, it DOES NOT disappoint!!

The thoughts of him with us at Mardi Gras, what could go wrong. Carrie Pulkinen has done it again! I don’t think I’ll ever look at the gods of them with us in the same way again. When Kat, a messenger, meets Hermes, the god of messengers, her life will never be the same. This book is full of fun and humor.

Chatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard – Review by Amanda Swindle

Chatroom With A ViewChatroom With A View by Glenn Maynard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chatroom With A View starts out at 100mph and never slows down. Troy Cullen comes from a dysfunctional family and continually questions his part in the role he inherited. Dysfunctional is the understatement of the year in a family where murder has been ongoing for generations. Glenn Maynard paints a very dark picture, from the opening chapter, and doesn’t stop there. Every time I THOUGHT I figured out the “why” of the main character’s thinking, or almost sympathized with him, another curveball was tossed our way. Not only is the main character the product of generations of abuse, neglect, and even murder, he is constantly battling his own mind on where he stands in all of this. Nature vs Nurture is the ongoing question. Then, enter “Veronica”, the sweet and caring girlfriend…. or so she seems. Without indulging too much, she is not who she seems. Nothing is easy for Troy Cullen, that much is apparent from page one. Whether you sympathize with his choices, or not, he is a strong character, and well written. This was definitely NOT what I was expecting when I started in on Chatroom With A View, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love things that have a dark path, or a surprise twist, and this is full of both. Definitely 5 stars.

Defined (The Cadence Duet Book Two) AUDIO BOOK by Dakota Willink – Review by Kerry Baker

Cadence Defined Audio Book by Dakota Willink is the second book in the Cadence Duet. This book picks up 17 years after the events in book one and really does need to be read in order.

I enjoyed how well the author transitioned the characters from young adults into grown people which complex lives and needs. When I started this book it was easy to keep the two separate. It took no time at all to be drawn back into Cadence and Fitz. Their journey was still anything but easy and to see how everything had played out so far was great.

I loved how easy it was for the characters to connect again. That bond was so strong.

I have really enjoyed everything about this duet. It was well written and emotional. The characters were engaging and had a depth to them that you don’t always see.

This is a brilliant series that I would highly recommend.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Forsaken: Wraith by Martin Ferguson is an explosive start to a new series. It is not often you get a book like this, one that absolutely captures you from start to finish. This whole book is thrilling. The author takes you on such an exciting journey. Half the time I didn’t know which way to turn because I was so caught up in what was happening.
Having previously read his Relic Hunters series I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and it did not disappoint at all! The whole book was so well executed that I am already looking forward to seeing more from these characters.

As much as the cliffhanger in part 1 killed me, part 2 of Avenging Devil was absolutely worth the wait. The darker storyline in this part of the series is right up my alley and kept you on the edge of your seat. All of the twists and turns with, not only Saffie and Niran, but Mary and Grumbler, made it impossible to put this book down until the end. There really couldn’t have been a better ending to this story. So very well written! A must read!

Pet Me (The Toye Shoppe Book 1) by Angelique Jurd – Review by Karyn Taylor

Pet Me (The Toye Shoppe #1)Pet Me by Angelique Jurd
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Pet Me is the first book in the Toye Shoppe series by Angelique Jurd. This was a new author for me but I found the blurb very intriguing and gave into temptation and gave the book a try. I’m really glad that I took the plunge as this is a really great M/M story that I thoroughly enjoyed.
M/M may not be everyone’s cup of tea but if it’s a genre that you enjoy reading then I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading Bailey and Sam’s story. Sam is the owner of an adult shop and Bailey is the awkward, shy guy who comes in a couple of times a week to look at one of the items in Sam’s shop.
I really enjoyed reading Sam and Bailey’s story. It’s definitely a case of opposites attract. I enjoyed reading about how Sam managed to bring put a whole new side to Bailey and allowed him to explore his sexuality and fantasies safely.
Added to Sam and Bailey are a really great cast of secondary characters whom I’m sure we will get to know much better in the following books in the series. They do play an important role in this book and add much to the storyline and I look forward to reading more about them.

Boy on Hold by JD Spero – Review by Kayla Bullock

Boy on HoldBoy on Hold by J.D. Spero
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Boy on Hold is an excellent story. Focusing on 7 year old Hen, his 17 year old brother, Tyler, and their mom, Marcella, their lives are turned upside down when Tyler is accused of a horrible crime. Hen happened to be a witness to the crime, and is lost and confused by the accusation against Tyler.

J.D. Spero did a fantastic job of portraying the characters in their elements–the thought processes of a 7 year old innocent child, the confusing mind of a 17 year old boy, and the heartache of a mama caught in the middle of a terrible mess with her children. The story itself kept me guessing, going back and forth on who was guilty and what really happened. A fantastic story and I am looking forward to reading the sequel next!

Death of a Coupon Queen (Sophie Parker Mystery Series) by Jenna Harte – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Death of a Coupon QueenDeath of a Coupon Queen by Jenna Harte
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is an enjoyable and engaging cozy mystery with a great main character in our heroine, Sophie Parker. Sophie is trying to just live a normal life whilst making ends meet, her relationship with her difficult great-aunt has improved and she’s now dating a airplane repo man, AJ. She’s also working part time at the library telling fairy tales, but then she discovers that her coupon tutor and mentor has been murderer. Having already had a close call with murder herself she is reluctant to get involved but is soon back in sleuthing mode once her curiosity gets the better of her. However this new investigation puts not only her career and her relationship at risk but also her life. This is a fun lighthearted read with a gripping storyline and plenty of plot twists that kept me hooked and guessing as to the identity of the murderer. I didn’t realise it was the second book in the series and I read it happily as a standalone story, however I am keen to read the first book as their are references about Sophie’s previous case which had me intrigued.

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven Series Book 4) by AJ Renee – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Cursed Touch (Broderick Coven, #4)Cursed Touch by A.J. Renee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was my first read by this author as well as a jump into the series (this is book 4) and this book was beyond words can describe of how good it was! The writing was perfectly, done and the way the words and things that happened flowed though out the story, it was impossible not feel that character connection or that feeling of holding tightly onto words wondering what would happen as the pages turned!

First off the two main characters instantly gipped me for who they were and things I did not know about them! Carter was a character that I easily could have fallen in love with in real life. He was a gifted healer more than ways of just medicine. He had a special gift to heal, and it truly made his heart flow as helping people was very much on his priority list. It made him feel whole and complete. But, perhaps there was room for more than just healing patients he met at his hospital?

Bring forward Vanessa. A delightful character with a curious mind I would say, who lands in the hospital where patients are in the care of Carter. She is there with another patient who truly had what was thought to be a dog bite. It was far from that though. She was a normal human species and did not carry any gif that was above average. Though she sold jewelry and she loved what she did for a living. Where she is from though, things are more in line with what would be paranormal. Though for the longest time it seems she did not suspect it. But, Vanessa was as curious as a modern day Alice In Wonderland…she dug for information on the odd things she had going on in her town, but perhaps some doors are left closed? Perhaps some things want to be left unknown, and those who dare to push past those boundaries will find themselves in grave danger?

Carter and Vanessa had both intrigued one another in many ways just by their meet and conversation in the hospital. Believe me I was screaming in my head for them just to go at it! Though both of them had different boundaries… Boyfriend, or work etc. But maybe the universe gives guidance or signs when we at least expect it? Perhaps the lives that enter and leave us in our life time have a bigger plan than just a random bump in? Perhaps there always has been more to it?

She learns through her findings the life she thought she knew was anything but! I could only imagine what she was going though and having a lot to progress in terms of information. In realty she learns that the person who is her closest friend for as long as she can remember, is not of a human species at all! This truly overwhelmed her and there was a lot to process, I sure would have needed some strong wine to process a lot of this information!

As things progress, Vanessa has basically put herself in the line of harm. And truth is can she be protected for the danger she had brought on herself based on her own curiosity? The caring tender touch that Carter gives her, is it enough for her to evade what could happen to her? Is there more than just a caring healer? Was she destined for something beyond her imagination? Is she truly human or something else that not even she believed to be possible in this world or even a paranormal world?

Really fast and easy read! Was a good flow of words and events and tying all ends and things together. I loved the characters I got to meet and interreact with! They were all fun and interesting in different ways. The characters alone and the ties into the truth (as I expected there was more than meets the eye) when it was in relation to Vanessa was very intriguing and I wanted answers. I was saddened when it ended as I wanted to spend more time in the story as well with the characters. Was truly enjoyable!

Loved this author’s writing and loved this book. Amazing work as well as character and story development. Highly recommend picking a copy up and reading it! Once you TOUCH this book you wont be able to put it down. Take my word for it!

Loved it truly! Amazing work again to this truly gifted author!!!

Mann in the Crossfire (Jarvis Mann Detective Series Book 8) by R Weir – Review by Kerry Carr

Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery NovelMann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel by R. Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 8th book in the Jarvis Mann Detective series. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. However I think if it is read in order then the characters would all make sense in their connection to each other. This didn’t detract from this book for me in any way though.
The author does an amazing job at keeping you hooked on the edge of your seat. With danger and suspense you are on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
I love a crime story and this one has an unsolved mysterious murder and an extremely dangerous element with the gang vibe. The author does an amazing job describing the gang element that you get an understanding about how dangerous that environment is.  Even the people who help our detective are dangerous and questionable which makes you wonder how it will work out  and if our Dectetive Mann can solve this case without losing his life.

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight Book 2) by N.L. Holmes – Review by Kayla Bullock

The Singer and Her Song (Empire at Twilight #2)The Singer and Her Song by N.L. Holmes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Singer and Her Song tells the story of Uqnitum, a singer from Mitanni and her daughter, Tatasshe. When their village is destroyed by the Assyrians and the men of the family are killed, Uqnitum and Tatasshe seek refuge in the court of Ugarit. With the deaths of her family, the loss of her home, and the guilt she feels for her part in it, Uqnitum struggles to adjust to her new life. Facing challenges, hardship, and heartache, Tatasshe and Uqnitum must learn what strength truly is.

I loved this novel. The characters are so well developed and likeable, I felt their pain, their joy, their relief, their heartache. The setting of the story is phenomenal and transports the reader to another land, in another time. I was hooked on the story from the minute the first chapter opened. N.L. Holmes has written a novel that I can give nothing but praise for. I will be reading the rest of the novels in the Empire of Twilight Series soon!

FURY OF CONVICTION (The Dragonfury Series Book 2) by Coreene Callahan – Review by Kerry Carr

Fury of Conviction (Dragonfury Short Story Collection, #2)Fury of Conviction by Coreene Callahan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a really good read. I like the supernatural element in the story revolving around dragons and the romance between Hamersveld and Natalie is really special.

Natalie has been kidnapped to use as part of a breeding programme to help create more baby dragons.
Hamersveld is one of the dragons in the pack. When he sees Natalie he vows to rescue her. However he can’t take her as his own due to the fact he can’t produce babies.
Still he needs to rescue her and when he does the connection between them is amazing. So fully committed to each other it would make for a perfect ending. However things aren’t that good. Natalie has to leave before the rest of Hamersveld’s pack come and take her back to the breeding programme.
With both their hearts breaking it is a classic story of if you love someone you have to let them go. But will this be the end for Natalie and Hamersveld or just the beginning.

I enjoyed reading this book and was excited to pick up and listen to the audio.  I enjoyed how the narrator made the story fun and entertaining to listen to.  I also enjoyed how they brought the story to life with the different tones for each character.  This is a cute young adult story about Cat and what happens to her when a scheduling mix up places her in a culinary class. Her family has a secret and she is about to find out what it is.  I really enjoyed Cat’s character, she was fun  and I enjoyed her  growth throughout her mix up.   Great story to listen to and worth the audio pick up.  I highly recommend this audio.

I like that the books were 17 years apart and the growth of the characters was amazing. This author is definitely a one click for me and I look forward to whatever is coming next.

Lacy Laurel and Zachary Webber did an excellent job with both books in this diet. They really brought the characters to life. I will also be watching for these two narrators in my upcoming audible listening pleasure.

FURY OF CONVICTION (The Dragonfury Series Book 2) by Coreene Callahan – Review by Angela Hayes

Fury of Conviction (Dragonfury Short Story Collection, #2)Fury of Conviction by Coreene Callahan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fury of Conviction is the second book in the Dragonfury Short Story Collection by Coreene Callahan. Who doesn’t love a great dragon shifter story- I know I do! So, it was never any question that I would snap up a copy of this book the moment I saw it in my notifications.
Coreene Callahan is a ‘new-to-me’ author and I am really baffled as to why I haven’t come across her books before now, because after doing a little stalking- er, um, I mean research, I discovered that she has written a slew of Dragonfury books, and as I mentioned before, I LOVE dragon shifter stories, so I am kicking myself that I have been missing out all this time, and I hate missing out on good books lol….
Anyway, I digress, back to my review. This is a great little paranormal romance, with DRAGON SHIFTERS 😊, fantasy, kidnapping, drama, agendas, chemistry, and action. It was a great introduction to Ms. Callahan’s style, and definitely gave me a taste for her work. The only issue I have is that I wish it had been longer (this is a novella length quick and easy read) as there were aspects of the story I would like to have explored in greater detail. It really made me curious about the pack and the Dragonfury ‘world’- so I will definitely be going back to explore the rest of the Dragonfury books/series- as there seems to be quite a lot of full length novels there for me to sink my teeth into…. so stay tuned.

Thank you, Coreene Callahan!

Avenging Devil Part 2: Satan’s Devils MC San Diego by Manda Mellett

This isn’t the first book by Mellett but it is my first part 2 by her. This is Part 2 of Avenging Devil. You will need to read the first part.

Niran is trying to protect Saffie, but things don’t end so well. Duke finds them and catches Niran off guard. Now Niran has to get them both off the hook. The quote I chose for Niran is: “Your ol’ lady ran away. F***in’ obvious you’d want her back. Heard her f***in’ sob story, and knew the Crazy Wolves were a club to whom I could relate. I kinda hoped you’d return a favour for a favour.”

Saffie is sick to her stomach listening to Niran talk to Duke. The only hope she has is that he’s trying to keep her from dying. When she wakes up she finds that the compound dogs are with her. The quote I chose for Saffie is: “Grumbler, they’ve got Niran.”

Highly recommended for MC Romance lovers.

Watching her lose her mother in the most horrible way makes you want to just grab her and hold onto her and never let her go. This girl is met with trial after trial and rises above it. At first she is very reluctant. I would be too if I was in her shoes! But, you see her grow and you want to read more. The storytelling is absolutely fantastic. I enjoyed every moment of this story. I like how the author weaves the threads of the story through the different characters into web of intrigue.. Great foundation building for the series of stories to come. Not a regular of YA Paranormal Romance, I enjoyed the sweet romantic suspense of first love amidst all the adventure of learning who she really is.
Lucy is a girl that’s had to stand on her own for years, but now she finds herself surrounded by a family and champions she never knew she had. This is my first read by Pauline Gruber and I won’t hesitate to read the next installment!
