Gamble on a Cowboy by Melissa Keir and D’Ann Lindun – Review by Katie Matthews

Gamble on a CowboyGamble on a Cowboy by Melissa Keir
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gamble on a Cowboy was a fabulous read! I have read stories by Melissa Keir previously and I knew I loved her writing but I was also really looking forward to reading work by D’Ann Lindun – a new to me author! Well I think I can definitely add her to my new list of authors to love! I have a soft spot for western romance stories and both of these definitely hit the spot!! Both of these novella’s would have been equally as amazing as full length novels – I was impressed with how the authors managed to cram so much into their short stories, I wasn’t left wanting more, well I was only because they were brilliant reads and not because I felt like I was missing anything. I really liked all of the characters, I thought that they were all really likeable and I connected with them all.
I would absolutely recommend these two wonderful short, sweet romance reads, I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Pandora's Price (Hart & Cole Book 3)Pandora’s Price by Sacha T. Y. Fortuné
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was so excited to read this book and oh my what a book it was! I was completely captivated from beginning to end. This book is the continuation of Darren’s and Luisa’s story so absolutely should be read after book 2. I was so intrigued by their story in book 1 and I had hoped to find out more about them in this book and I got that and more! They just had such a strong and intense relationship that at times make you wonder whether they should be together but deep down you know that they absolutely should. The detail the author uses in her writing makes you feel like you are right there in the story with these characters and living their live along with them. Her attention to everything in the story just aids with making her books such an absolute pleasure to read and I would not hesitate at all to recommend this series to anybody who is looking for a fantastic 5 star set of books!

Seraphina’s Revolution (The Seraphina Series Book 4) by Sheena Hutchinson – Review by Katie Matthews

Seraphina's Revolution (Seraphina #4)Seraphina’s Revolution by Sheena Hutchinson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been patiently (ok maybe not so patiently) waiting for the fourth book in this series to be released! This was the series that made me fall in love with paranormal romance stories and I couldn’t wait to see how this amazing series was going to end – but then that made me sad that this was in fact the last book in the series and I wasn’t ready to let go of these amazing characters! I think Ms Hutchinson was indeed aiming to go out on a high with the final book and she 100% did that! It was a phenomenal read! I was hooked from beginning to end, the story was crammed full of action, the pace was amazing and I was completely and utterly captivated by what I was reading. I adore Sera, she has been an amazing character to follow and learn about. I knew what I wanted to happen for her in this story and I think the author completely did her justice in this book!
The series does need to be read in order to fully understand what is happening with the characters and I 100% recommend every single one of them!
I can’t wait to read more from this author again in the future!

Me and Cinderella (The Dirty Rooster Book 2) by Kelly Mooney – Review by Katie Matthews

Me and Cinderella (The Dirty Rooster #2)Me and Cinderella by Kelly Mooney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was really looking forward to reading this second book in The Dirty Rooster series especially as I enjoyed book 1 so much and I wasn’t disappointed at all. It can be read as a standalone also. Again like book 1 the story was really well written and I really liked that characters. I like a forbidden romance and this was definitely one of my favourites! The chemistry between the characters was hot and intense but also not too over the top – it made it feel more believable. I could really feel the connection between the two characters too and I was rooting for them the whole way through!
I would absolutely recommend this book to others and I am really looking forward to reading more from Ms Mooney again in the future!

Terror in Boring Town (A Sam and Rex Adventure Book 1)Terror in Boring Town by Hoot N. Holler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So first off I thought that this was a great children’s story! I don’t have any children in the target audience so I read and reviewed it as a teacher. I really enjoyed it and have no doubt that children in the age range would really enjoy this story and I also think that it would be great in engaging boys to read too! The plot was exciting and the characters were well thought out. The illustrations were bright and colourful and really added something to the story. There were some really good talking points too which would enable children to predict what might happen in the story.
I would absolutely recommend this book for the age range that had been identified and would have no hesitation using it in my classroom!

Home Is Where the Heart Is (The Wilder Sister Series Books 1-5) by Melissa Keir – Review by Katie Matthews

Home is Where the Heart is: The Wilder SistersHome is Where the Heart is: The Wilder Sisters by Melissa Keir
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this collection of Novella’s by Melissa Keir. Each story in the collection focuses on one of the sisters and they really were all such a pleasure to read. I loved how the author made sure to make each sister different but also kept it so that you knew they were sisters. Each of their individual stories were heart-warming and sweet. We had second chance romance, relationships where people are still unsure of their sexuality, love, faith and miracles and more. Whilst I loved all of the stories I have to admit A Christmas Accident certainly had me grabbing for the tissues and those characters had my heart from the very beginning. I could feel the emotions of all the characters and cried along with them.
I have read a few books by this author now and I do love her easy and relaxed writing style, she writes beautiful stories that you can’t help but be swept up in straight away.
I definitely recommend Home is Where the Heart is – I can’t wait to read more from Ms Keir again in the future.

Don’t Let Me (Simplicit Duet Book 1) by Marie Skye – Review by Katie Matthews

Don't Let Me (The Simplicit Duet #1)Don’t Let Me by Marie Skye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have been waiting a long time for a new release from one of my favourite authors, Marie Skye, so I was extremely eager to get my hands on Don’t Let Me, the first book in the Simplicit Duet and as expected it didn’t disappoint at all! It was everything that I have come to love from this author, it had the heat she writes so well, the passion that she gets across to the reader and it had the characters that she makes me fall in love with as soon as I start reading about them. The secrets, the twists and the turns make for one captivating read. I always find it hard to write reviews of Ms Skye’s books not because they are bad, far, far from it but because it’s so easy to give away spoilers and I do not want to do that – so – what I will say is whether you are new to this author or not you absolutely should one click this book today! It is an amazing read and I cannot wait for the next part to see what happens!!

Vantage Point (Gray Ghost #4)Vantage Point by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think this is probably one of the best series that I have read in a long time and I was super excited to read the next book in it – Vantage Point and as expected I was NOT disappointed at all!! It was an amazing 5 star read that I loved every single minute of. I loved Hawk and Stella’s story, like the others in the series I quickly fell in love with them and desperately wanted the best for them. I loved the suspense running through the story it kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat on more than one occasion. The two characters definitely had this spark between them that was undeniable! I love that Ms McKinley’s characters always have a past that comes back to haunt them because I get to see them overcome whatever it is and Hawk’s was one I wasn’t expecting!
Although this book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone I would absolutely recommend reading them in order! I will certainly be looking forward to more from this author again in the future!

Taming the Troublemaker (The Hills of Texas Book 3) by Kadie Scott – Review by Katie Matthews

Taming the Troublemaker (Hills of Texas, #3)Taming the Troublemaker by Kadie Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the second book that I have read and enjoyed by this author. I find that I am completely captivated by the characters and the storyline. It was a really light-hearted and entertaining read; I really love the simple romance of the story. I love the hot and heavy romance type but I equally enjoy a nice, sweet romance also and Taming the Troublemaker was a wonderful example of just that.
I think I fell in love with Autry straight away; he did seem such a nice, kind and genuine person. Beth was a sweet character and I loved her from the beginning. I just loved the interaction between the two of them, it was fun, it was sweet and I was definitely rooting for them the whole way through.
Although part of a series this book could definitely be read as a standalone and it is one that I would highly recommend! I am looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.

Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers #5) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Katie Matthews

Turning the Tide (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 5)Turning the Tide by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

And again another FANTASTIC 5 star read from this author! Every time I read a new book by Ms Alexander I think this one can’t be as good as the last one I read and I love that I am always wrong! Every book of this author’s that I have read I have absolutely adored, even if it’s not a particular thing I love to read about like m/m or m/f/m – there is just something about her writing that never fails to pull me in, Her characters are brilliant and always so different and in Turning the Tide this was no different! I loved Luke and Connie and I know I probably shouldn’t have loved Luke he is probably everything I dislike in a male lead, he did things I didn’t like and don’t approve of but Ms Alexander made me fall in love with him. She made me see that there are things that go on in people’s lives that we have no idea about and you definitely shouldn’t judge what people do or don’t do. I really took these characters in to my heart just as I have with the others from this series and it was lovely to see some of them again! This story could be read as a standalone but by reading the previous ones you will understand all the different relationships between the characters. I recommend this series 100% and Turning the Tide is a fantastic addition to it. As always I cannot wait to read whatever this author releases next!!

I do have a soft spot for these kinds of stories (millionaires/billionaires – I think I just secretly want to find one!!) and have read quite a few however this is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it! It was everything I love about a contemporary romance read. I loved the characters, Jess and Jordan. They really were opposites but as they say opposites attract! They did have an amazing chemistry that felt real and genuine. The first interaction between them was really sweet and melted my heart a little.
I thought that the story was well written and had a great pace to it. I like the plot to the story and it definitely flowed really well.
Overall a really lovely story that was well written and one that I highly recommend!

I really do love reading books by this author – she never fails to entertain me with her unique and engaging writing style. I really enjoyed The Woman America Loves a Latte so I was really looking forward to reading Little Miss Eyes of Blue as it is the prequel to it. I think that it definitely opened up the character of Vee for me; I feel like I found out so much about her in this book that I could read the second book now and have a better understanding of her as a person. It was really nice to see more of Vee and what she has been through in her life. I don’t think it really matters which order you read the books in I would just definitely recommend that you read them! They are both excellent reads and you won’t regret it!

Linked: Can Empathy Save the United Terrestrial Democracy?Linked: Can Empathy Save the United Terrestrial Democracy? by Gaia B. Amman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I thought that Linked was a really interesting read, it isn’t a genre I would normally read however I have read a few books by this author so I thought I would give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised. It is one of those books that has you thinking about what you have read long after you have finished. The authors’ writing was captivating and the book was really well written. It was a really unique and original read that I think readers have to experience the book just to appreciate the story that the author is trying to tell. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in the story and this definitely meant that I had no idea what was going to happen and hence why I was so engaged from the beginning until the end. The characters in the book were well thought out and they developed well as the story progressed.
I think if you are looking for something a little different to read and you enjoy sci-fic/dystopian stories then I would absolutely recommend this book – even if they aren’t your go to genres I would also recommend giving this story a chance!

Lights, Camera, Action (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 1) by Heather Silvio – Review by Katie Matthews

Lights, Camera, Action (Paranormal Talent Agency, #1)Lights, Camera, Action by Heather Silvio
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was such a wonderful read! I definitely had some preconceived ideas about what I thought this story would be about and I’m so glad I was wrong! It really was a fantastic book! I haven’t read anything by this author before but I absolutely cannot wait to read the next book in the series already!
I like paranormal reads, I love romance stories and I love a bit of suspense in my books too so to have all three rolled into one I knew I was on to a winner! From the very beginning to last sentence I was hooked by this story. This authors writing was engaging and entertaining. I suppose there were parts of the story that were predictable but I didn’t care at all.
I really liked the characters Catherine and Alex. Catherine was a bright and bubbly character that I couldn’t help but like straight away and I may have a little crush on Alex! The story is told form Catherine’s POV but I have to say I maybe would have liked to see a little bit from Alex too, just a few chapters thrown in here and there but saying that I still loved the story anyway!
As I mentioned before I am really looking forward to the next books in the series and I absolutely recommend this book – it is a short, fun and entertaining read!!

Another amazing read from this fantastically talented author!! I am so glad that I found this author when I did because I have absolutely loved all of the books that I have read by her. I am always captivated from the beginning until the end.
Devil’s Backbone is the fifth book in the Wild Beasts series but can be read as a standalone. I have to say I’m pretty certain this is my favourite one out of the series! I really enjoy mythology and I have really come to love the twist this author has put on that – she has created real original stories. Tess and Ben’s story was pretty intense and full of action. I really felt for Tess actually and everything that she had been through, I thought that she was a really relatable character. I will be honest I was rooting for Tess and Ben!!
I absolutely recommend this book and the others in the series also! I know that I will be very much looking forward to reading more from this wonderful author again in the future!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with this story, I liked that the blurb was a little on the vague side as it meant I was going in without any real expectations – it is also a genre that I have read a lot of so that added to the intrigue for me and so I loved that I got such a well written and wonderful story to read. It didn’t take me long at all to become completely absorbed into the authors writing – I was pleasantly surprised to find out that North to Nara is also the authors debut novel. She should definitely be very proud of what she has written. The level of detail enabled me to completely imagine what I was reading. Her characters we well thought out and I really enjoyed reading about them. I think one of the things I liked was that although I knew what I wanted to happen in the story the author wasn’t afraid to take the story in differing directions that constantly kept me guessing about what might happen! She has definitely set the scene for an amazing series and I can’t wait for the next book!!

I absolutely loved this story! This might be the fourth book in The Predator series and I read it as a standalone but I had no problems at all understanding what was going on. I believe each book can be read as a standalone however after reading about these characters I absolutely want to read the other books in the series too!
Back in the Ring was a wonderful story, the authors writing was captivating, exciting and entertaining. It didn’t take me long at all to fall in love with the characters in this book at all. Both Bijou and Noah’s stories were really emotional and I have to say I was totally rooting for them the whole way through, I thought that they both deserved to find happiness again after both suffering such loss in their lives. I could really feel every emotion that poured out of them and I thought that that author did an amazing job with them.
I really cannot wait to read more by this author again in the future!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! After reading and loving the first book in this series I was really excited to start book 2 and I wasn’t disappointed! I think that I have definitely found a new historical romance writer to love! I loved all the twists and turns this story held, there were some that I definitely didn’t see coming.
I loved Eliza and I really did feel sorry for her, she was in the clutches of some pretty nasty family who were determined to marry her off to someone equally as horrible. I loved how the author made me hate characters as well as love some of them! I was definitely waiting for something to happen to Eliza’s father so that she could lead a happy life!
I will absolutely be looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future and would highly recommend this book to lovers of historical romance and also for anyone looking to read something a little different! Although part of a series this book can be read as a standalone! I can’t wait to read book 3 in the series!

I find that I am instantly transported into the imaginative and creative worlds that this author has created. The characters are always well thought out and you find that you can’t help but want to see what happens to them in their story. I really enjoy historical fiction so it’s great that I can add this series to my collection of ones that I have enjoyed reading.

FortitudeFortitude by Carrie Dalby

Fortitude was an excellent read and one that I found really difficult to put down. I really like historical fiction but I’m more of a romance type of reader so when I read the blurb for this book I was intrigued to try something historical and a little different and I am so glad that I did, I loved every minute of this story. There were some pats that for us today were hard to even comprehend but for the time period that it was written about that is how people thought and for me I was impressed with how to author dealt with them. I have read books by this author before so I knew it would be well written but what shone through for me was the level of detail that the author included I could tell that she had really researched well before writing this story. I liked that characters, I thought that they were well developed and I connected with them.

This book was amazing! I think it is probably one of the best books that I have read so far this year. I absolutely loved book 1 so I was really excited to read the second book and I wasn’t disappointed at all. The authors writing had me captivated from beginning to end. Her characters are amazing, well thought out and just a joy to read about. In this book again Matt and Mikaela’s story had me hooked from the very beginning and brought out a whole host of emotions whilst reading it. I absolutely adored the characters; I truly wanted the best for them both. The author isn’t afraid to write about things that aren’t nice to think about and cancer definitely affects everyone in some way or form. I think that because of this I found this such a relatable story.
This is a continuation story and so should be read after book 1 and I know that if you have read book 1 and were desperate to see what happens next then you will not be disappointed. This is truly an amazing story and I loved every second of it.

Hazed is the first book that I have read by Brittany Butler and one that I really enjoyed. I liked the real feel to the story and I found that I was easily engaged in what I was reading. The author’s writing was really good, real, raw and emotional at times. I liked that I didn’t find the story too predictable either which meant I was guessing what was going to happen. I liked the characters, I think they are characters you need to get to know and I found that the more I read the more I learnt about them and the more I liked them. There were some difficult subjects in the story but the author wrote about them well. Taylor and Hayze both had their own problems and I really felt like I was right there with them, particularly Hayze and just wanting the best for them both.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

The Billionaire and the Therapist was a wonderful read. I do have a soft spot for a Billionaire story (wishful thinking for me I think sometimes!!) but sometimes they can be very much the same however I love that this was one different. Kim Koby took a genre and made it different to anything that I had read before. Whilst I love the hot and steamy romance stories I also love a nice clean romance like this one and I just adored every minute of it! I fell in love with the characters straight away- I felt for John and everything that he had been through – at times I could feel the desperation that he was feeling when trying to help his daughter. It was a really unique story that definitely made me stop and think a few times. I enjoyed reading about the complexities in human relationships sometimes and how many times opposites definitely attract!
The pace of the story was slow and it did take a while to get going but I didn’t really mind that. I felt like I got to know the characters well and it meant I could really enjoy the author’s beautiful writing. I am not religious at all but I thought it would be interesting to read this book and see how people who do believe in God think and feel about situations. I found the author to be really connectable and I enjoyed reading her story. I could imagine some of the situations happening and had a sense of understanding in the way that she dealt with things. I thought that it took courage for the author to be so open and honest about her beliefs and the story did a have deep and personal feel about it.
I haven’t read anything by this author previously but I definitely would like to read more from her again in the future. A thought provoking book that I enjoyed reading. @katiem
