Dancing Queen by Charlotte Roth – Review by Katie Matthews

Dancing QueenDancing Queen by Charlotte Roth
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book!! This was such a wonderful, easy to read story and I absolutely fell in love with the characters Fiona and Stu! I felt like I could really connect with Fiona, the way in which the author write about her made her feel like she was real. I really felt like I wanted to be there on the side lines cheering her along every step of the way. I was truly inspired by Fiona, her story and her outlook on life. The author cleverly intertwined funny with emotion and explored situations that made you think about how society view and judge people all the time based on what they look like.
I have read a few books by this author now and I do love her fun and quirky writing style. Her stories are entertaining to read and I 100 % recommend them!

If The Shoe Fits... (The Liberty Lawrence Series Book #3)If The Shoe Fits… by Bea Stevens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have absolutely adored this series and I was so excited to read another instalment in the series. Again it didn’t disappoint – Libby is one of my favourite characters to read about, she makes me laugh so much with what she does but I just know that if she were real I would totally want to be friends with her. The authors writing is excellent, I just find myself captivated by her storytelling as soon as I pick up one of books. The characters she has created are genuine and likeable and I have loved reading about them. There were some great twists in this book too that I wasn’t expecting! I am also a little bit in love with James too!!
I am so looking forward to reading more from Bea Stevens again in the future and if you are looking for a rom com with a little suspense thrown in then I 100% recommend this book and the series!

Age of Saints (Druid's Brooch #7)Age of Saints by Christy Nicholas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Age of Saints was an excellent read, full of action and with great characters. I was hooked from the very beginning. The author’s writing was engaging and full of wonderful descriptive language. The flow and pace of the story were great. I really enjoyed the storyline and it kept my interest throughout – I found myself to having to keep the pages turning so that I could find out what was going to happen with Conall. I did feel sorry for him, everything he seemed to do just went wrong. I really enjoyed reading about him.
Age of Saints is a richly detailed fantasy story that I would absolutely recommend! I look forward to reading more from this author again in the future.

I really like this author and have read many books by her so I was really looking forward to reading this new one from her and again it was a really enjoyable read. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first read the title and blurb which was great, I love going into a book not knowing what is going to happen. There were some good twists in the story and my attention was definitely captured from the beginning. I really liked the main character, Vee. She had had a touch start in life but I admired her strength and her tenacity in going after what she wants.
The Woman America Loves a Latte was a great read one that I really enjoyed! I look forward to reading more from Holly Tierney-Bedord again in the future.

The Case of Missing Books: A Summer McCloud Paranormal MysteryThe Case of Missing Books: A Summer McCloud Paranormal Mystery by Nikki Broadwell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Case of Missing Books was a brilliant read by Nikki Broadwell. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I like mystery books and I also like paranormal so I thought combining the two I’m definitely going to like this and I absolutely did. The author’s writing was engaging and fast paced which meant my interest was kept throughout. The blurb was intriguing and I liked that I went into knowing what to expect and I thought the story was unpredictable which again I really liked about it. The author’s beautiful descriptive language created such a vivid and wonderfully magical world that I was thoroughly captivated by what I was reading. Although this was book 6 in the series I read it as a standalone however I would really love to read the other books in the series too!

Yearning Young (Burning Britely #2)Yearning Young by Deidre Huesmann
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yearning Young was another great read from this author. Although M/M stories aren’t a particular genre I read I do like this author’s writing and this story was beautifully written, as was book 1. I love the way she gets the emotions of her characters across and I think that this book would be enjoyed by YA’s especially if they find that they are in a similar situation to the main characters. I really enjoyed reading Braeden’s story. I think that the author made him a really relatable character. I could really feel his inner turmoil as he tried to find out who he really was. It felt like I was right there with him at times. Having read book 1 from Jeff’s POV it was good to read this one from Braeden’s. I feel like I really know the characters well.
Yearning Young was a really enjoyable read that I highly recommend!

The Slip Series Collection by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Katie Matthews

The Slip Series CollectionThe Slip Series Collection by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a fantastic box set of stories – all of them are absolutely hilarious! I love this author and her books never fail to entertain me. I am always dragged straight into her stories and the characters she creates are wonderful. This box set includes D*ckslip, Nipslip and Beaver Blunder.

D*ckslip – Book 1
Oh my god this book had me full on laughing out loud by the end of the first few pages. There was nothing missing from this book, apart from the fact it ended! I could have read about Andy (Andrea) and Rafe forever. Andy was a great character, she stood up for what she believed and tried not to back down in a male dominated workplace. Poor Rafe, I did feel for him but for some reason I wish I was at that basketball game!! *wink wink* I really like his character as he was genuinely a lovely person.
I really did love everything about this book and loved that it wasn’t predictable. It was as I expected from this author brilliantly written, fantastic characters and a great storyline. The secondary characters were also great especially Rafe’s (older by 6 minutes) sister, she made me laugh a few times!

Nipslip – Book 2
I know by now that whenever I pick up a book by this author I am in for an entertaining read and NipSlip was no different. Having just read and loved DickSlip I was really looking forward to another romantic comedy to laugh at and laugh I did at this book! I loved it from beginning to end.
I just loved Riley and Tate. Poor Riley I really did feel sorry for her with her wardrobe malfunction, but it did make me chuckle! I loved the chemistry between the two; I was definitely rooting for them the whole way through. I think I might just be a little bit in love with Tate if I am completely honest!!

Beaver Blunder – Book 3

After reading the first two books in this series I had no idea where the author would go with any subsequent stories but she has absolutely knocked it out of the park with this book! I was literally crying at some parts (crying from laugher I should add). I know when I read a book from Gwyn McNamee not to even bother doing anything else because I won’t be able to take my eyes off my kindle screen and that was true again! I loved by D*ck slip and Nip Slip but this one is my absolute favourite! I loved all of the characters, especially Maddie and Owen and it was great to see characters from previous stories appear too! Maddie, that poor, poor girl. I really did feel sorry for her! But I loved her tenacity and the way in which she was determined to get back to work despite what happened. I loved the connection between her and Owen and well I have got to be honest I am totally in love with Owen – completely and utterly head over heels in love with him! I don’t know how this author manages to come up with such amazing characters who are never the same! She truly is a literary master!!

What She Lost and Found by M. L. Garcia – Review by Katie Matthews

What She Lost And FoundWhat She Lost And Found by M.L. Garcia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What She Lost and Found was a wonderful read and a great debut novel for this author. I found I was hooked into the story easy, it had a pretty good pace and flow (in most parts) to it which made it a pleasure to read.
Daniela’s character was really well written and I could tell the author had really thought about her. I could feel all of the emotions that she did and my heart broke for her a few times. I really did find myself rooting for her the whole way through.
Nathan really was a lovely character, I could feel the protectiveness that he had towards Daniela and he really did want to help her. I loved the two of them together.
The book does contain some sensitive issues but the author navigated them well and respectfully. I can definitely see that this author has potential and I am really looking forward to reading more from her in the future.

His First Lady by Avery Scott – Review by Katie Matthews

His First LadyHis First Lady by Avery Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book that I have read by this author and overall I really liked the story and her writing style. I liked that the characters in the story had to grow on me, yes it’s nice where you fall in love with a character straight away or have that instant connection but I do also like it when you have to work hard to get to know a character and I definitely had to do that with Michael.
Whilst sometimes the story lacked a little detail then characters and their chemistry was fantastic! I loved the connection they had, although they may have frustrated me at times I still found I was fully invested in their story.
I would definitely like to read more by this author in the future and think that His First Lady is a solid 4 star read!

A Cold Dark Place (Cold Justice, #1)A Cold Dark Place by Toni Anderson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an amazing read! I still have goose bumps after finishing it! When I first read the blurb for this book I thought it sounded good and Toni Anderson is a new to me author so I thought I would give it ago – I am so, so glad that I did! I was hooked from the very first page! It was a brilliant mix of romance and suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat and also turning the pages just to see what was going to happen next!
Mallory was a great female lead and I could feel the passion she had for her job, she was determined to find out what happened to her twin sister. I was rooting for her the whole way through to finally get the answers she wanted.
Alex was a really intriguing character and I loved reading about him – there was chemistry between him and Mallory that was quite evident. I really loved the mystery surrounding him although I was worried he would end up hurting Mallory – this is one of the things that kept me turning the pages as I wanted to find out what would happen with them.
A Cold Dark Place was a fantastic 5 star romantic suspense novel that I highly recommend!

Coming Home: The Sequel to Flowers in December by Jane Suen – Review by Katie Matthews

COMING HOME (Flowers in December, #2)COMING HOME by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was really looking forward to seeing how Connor was coping in the second installment to Flowers in December – book 1 was very emotional following Connor and his grief over losing his mother and again his emotions flowed through this story but in a different way. This story was more about him making his peace with everything and moving on with his life. I loved seeing Mary-Ann back in his life and also some other secondary characters. We got snippets into a few of the other characters too which was nice. Although the story didn’t end up as I thought and maybe wanted I still enjoyed reading about Connor again.
I would definitely recommend reading book 1 before this one to fully understand everything Connor went through.
Another great read from Jane Suen, I look forward to more from her again in the future.

I have been waiting to read this book – waiting very patiently and it was everything I wanted and more! I LOVE this author! I just think she is completely amazing! She knows how to write MC stories like no one else I know or read before and Little Do You Know did not disappoint AT ALL!!!!! It was a very intense read, maybe more so than I was expecting but I just couldn’t put it down.
Noah – oh how I loved him! He has loved his girl his entire life and is totally committed to being with her once he has his freedom – the way he talked about Kady you could honestly feel the love he had for her.
Kady – where did she come from?!? She was an amazing character and I think she probably stole the story for me! I didn’t want to like her at first, especially the way she acted towards Noah – he is just the best! BUT her story was heart-breaking and I admired the strength that she had.
Noah and Kady’s story was mesmerizing from beginning to end. The emotion running through the whole story was great. I 100% loved every single page I read and I cannot recommend it enough! I think this may be my favourite from this series!!

Another wonderful read in this series! I loved the two books that came before this one so I was really looking forward to reading this one and I was not disappointed. It was everything that I have come to expect from this author – beautifully written, great characters, lovely plot and full of emotion! I loved how she tied up everything from the previous two books together with this one – I always thought I knew Alex and what his story would be like so I LOVED that I was wrong! The author definitely threw in some unpredictable curveballs which made the story even more exciting to read! I am really sad that the story of these wonderful characters has ended but I know for sure whatever J D Boudreaux writes next it will be equally as wonderful and I will be eagerly awaiting more from her in the future!

This story!! I still can’t stop thinking about it even after finishing it two days ago! It was such a beautifully, detailed read that I was hooked from beginning to end. This incredibly talented author took me on one of the biggest emotional rollercoasters that I’ve been on for a while. I lived all of the ups and downs with the wonderful characters that she had created.
Charlotte and Hawk – these two – I don’t even know how to explain my feelings about them. I cried for them both, especially Charlotte – what an awful time she had but I admired the strength she had to keep going every day. They are both these two wonderful characters who you just desperately want the best for. I became completely 100% invested in their story.
This is the first full length novel that I have read by this author having previously read short stories by her in anthologies and this truly was an outstanding read. I cannot wait to read more from her in the future and I am eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Wings’!!

The Inheritance was an amazing story – it might have only been a short read but I was hooked from beginning to end! I have read a few books by this author now and I love her writing style. Her books are well written and engaging. Max and Lani were amazing characters; I fell under their spell straight away! The chemistry and sexual tension between them was hot! Max was everything I love in a hot, older dominant – I am definitely in love with him!! Lani was a great heroin, not the naive one I expected either which was great! Again the author’s writing was exciting, entertaining and there were lots of twists and turns that kept my interest throughout.
The first book concentrated on Millicent and in this book we get Annie’s story, who we did meet in book 1. Shattered Love is the debut novel from this author and overall I thought it was a good read. When I first read the blurb I wasn’t sure the direction the author would take the story, which for me was good as I didn’t know what to expect. The flow of the story was a little hit and miss at times and I think it was affected by the switches between past and present during the book. I can tell though that this is going to be an author to watch.
Bria and Damien’s story was quite emotional and it was definitely full of drama and angst. I really struggled with Bria at times, I didn’t always agree with her choices but there were glimpses of a nice person underneath also.
I will definitely be looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I loved the characters – Annabel and Ethan. Annabel was a determined character, she wanted to start over. I really enjoyed reading her story. There were some good twists in the story too. I really liked Ethan – he was just one of those characters you can’t help but like and then there is Trouble! Any book that has a cat in it is going to be a winner with me! Deepest Midnight was a brilliant read; I was hooked from beginning to end. The author‘s writing was excellent, the story flowed well, it was easy to read and very engaging. The author’s attention to detail was great which made it even better to read. The characters were well thought out and developed well over the story. Vampire stories are amongst my favourite paranormal romance reads but I do find sometimes they are much the same so I liked that this one was a little different, I could tell the author had really thought about what she was writing about and which direction she wanted her characters to go in. There was a dark undertone to the story too which I particularly liked. I enjoyed the little snippets into Millicent’s past and finding out more about her.
Overall I thought that this was a fantastic paranormal romance read with some great twists and turns which left me guessing what was going to happen! I am really looking forward to reading book 2 in the series and I highly recommend this one!

An Improper Encounter (The Macalisters, #3)An Improper Encounter by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

An Improper Encounter was another wonderful read by Erica Taylor. I have really enjoyed all of the books in this series so far. The author’s attention to detail is second to none, she really makes it so easy for me as a reader to imagine what I am reading – at times it is like I am watching a period drama. I really liked the storyline for this book, it was a little different to what I have read before – I thought the characters were great. I loved the chemistry between Sarah and William! It was really believable. Sarah was a really strong female lead – I love it when this genre of story has such a strong, independent female main character. After everything she went through she seemed to come out fighting! I admire that about her.
After Sarah and William’s first encounter, I have to admit that the rest of the way through the story I was rooting for them to find their way back to each other again. This book could be read as a standalone however I would absolutely recommend reading the first two books also as they are just as good as this one.

I adore Luke! I actually wanted to be able to give him the biggest hug! I can’t imagine everything that he had been through and I could feel the guilt that he felt also. I loved reading about the connection between him and Emily – there was just something there between them that felt so genuine and sincere. I think they had something that would tie them together forever; they understood each other and everything that they had been through. I desperately wanted them both to find their happily ever after. It’s been a while since two characters have found their way into my heart like these two have done.

Eight Steps was a fun and entertaining read that I really enjoyed. I have read a couple of books by this author now and I always find her writing really easy to read and my attention is always held from beginning to end.
I thought that Elliot was a great character, a really nice person and I liked him even if he was a ‘nerd’! I really enjoyed watching as he tried to transform himself into an alpha all to catch the eye of a girl he likes! I wasn’t sure I was going to like Fe, I wondered if she was going to be pushy but I actually kind of liked her – there was some chemistry between the two and they had good banter between them.

Oh I absolutely adored this book! From the very start until the very end I was completely swept up in what I was reading. This is also the first book that I have read by this author and what an introduction it was. I didn’t want the story to end. I’m not sure I expected to fall in love with Gibson as much as I did – oh my heart broke for him completely. He was just everything I love in an alpha male type; I definitely shed a few tears for him too. The author wrote about him in such a way that I could feel everything that he did. It didn’t take me long either to fall in love with Sacha, hurt in the past for a different reason I was totally rooting for this two to help each other find happiness again. Sacha was the feisty female that I felt Gibson needed to help him and he was the protective male that she needed. I utterly adored them both!
I am super excited for the next book in the series – judging by this one I can see that this is going to be a super 5 star series!!!

I think because the content for the storyline is so real, it is about things that have happened in real life and because of this I think it is easier for you to imagine what it must be like for the characters in those moments. I can’t say that I cried a lot during the book but it definitely made me emotional whilst reading it. I felt a real connection to the characters. Living in the UK I think it’s hard to ever imagine these things happening but sadly they do and it is definitely hard for me to understand being able to own a gun and the ease at which they can be purchased. I liked that the author took both sides of the argument and presented them in the story – it was definitely a very thought provoking story.
Alongside the storyline I really liked the characters, Angelia and Mark and cannot imagine the pain they suffered during this book. I enjoyed watching their friendship/relationship develop and overcoming the loss and sadness they go through.
The Light at Dawn is a story that will make you think, make you question what you think is right or wrong but it might also (like me) open your eyes to something that is very present in some countries and make you think about what may happen in the future.
