Four Stars

Blue Summer Part One is the first book I’ve read by Everly Taylor. This paranormal fantasy held my attention from the very first page. I can’t wait to read part two of this story. Lillie is human and she was having a bad day when two big blue guys come into her life. Zayed are blue people that Lillie has only heard rumors about, but finds herself entangled with. This book is full of magic, suspense, adventure and big blue men. This short story was intriguing and I will keep my eye out for other book by Ms. Taylor.

Antipodes by T.S. Simons is a young adult dystopian novel. This is definitely not your average dystopian story, but the synopsis left me intrigued!

Cam has found himself as one of the chosen ones to be a part of a population living away from the current virus that is essentially going to kill absolutely everything. People, creatures, wildlife, plants, it’s all going to parish when the virus reaches it. They are thriving in their area when his lover, Freyja, goes missing. On Cam’s search to find her, he comes across another village similar to his, but still no Freyja. Helpless, Cam leaves the safety of the civilization in hopes Freyja did the same.

I really loved this book and could not put it down. The banter between Damien and Zoe was funny, raw, and steamy. Teenage crushes are hard to let go of when faced with the gorgeous alpha man he is now. The vulnerability between the two is electric. This is the first time I have read a book by Danielle Jacks and I will most certainly be reading more. She has a way of grabbing you from the very start.

Chased (A Cambridge Men of Honour Novel Book One): A Dark Mafia Bad Boy Romance (Cambridge Men of Honour—Dark Mafia Romances 1) by Felicity Brandon – Review by Danielle Thompson

ChasedChased by Felicity Brandon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chased (A Cambridge Men of Honor Book One): A Dark Mafia Bad Boy Romance by Felicity Brandon has all the trimmings of what one could hope for in a dark romance. It’s a first-person read told from the point of view of our two leading characters. Alegra is a lawyer with a strong personality and do-good moral compass who finds herself enthralled with a villainous male, Chase. Opposites attract indeed; he is the leader of the largest crime organization in Britain (albeit with the world at his fingertips). I actually appreciate that in sticking with the theme his character is true to what one would expect of someone involved in organized crime without all sugar-coating the character for the sake of making them more likable. Honestly in that position of power being a softy would make you weak and a target. So if you have any interest in organized crime historically you might appreciate that. The story is a page-turner and recommended for adults who enjoy a true “bad boy” type fictional character.

This was another new author for me. The story was interesting. It has several things that I enjoy, vampires and wolves mixed with mythology. Livvie is a “wolf-less” daughter to a pack alpha and never felt truly at home there and then there is Darius, the son of Ra—The Egyptian Sun God and an ancient vampire. Their chemistry is undeniable between the two and you can’t help but root for them as a couple. If you like mythology with a touch of supernatural this book is for you.

Blue Summer Part OneBlue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Blue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor is a story full of paranormal and romance. There is so much romance and drama that is ready to be unfolded. The paranormal is a nice bonus in this love story.

They spoke about Zayed, the blue-skinned man. They warned us that we should be afraid of them. Fear, on the other hand, was formed of ignorance, and I recognized how wrong they were all. I had no idea that my first meeting with The Zayed would forever affect not just my perspective, but also my life. Kidnapped for what the sorcerer felt she could provide him, only to be rescued and given exactly what he was looking for. Now she had to figure out her part in all of this in order to save not just herself, but the whole Zayed Community as well.

I loved every page of it. Every chapter was lovely. I can’t wait to read more books from this author.

AntipodesAntipodes by T.S. Simons
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Antipodes by T.S. Simons is an amazing book with romance. It has a thriller and even a form of dystopian. Many different kind of people can enjoy this book

Antipodes is a one-of-a-kind piece of fiction set in post-apocalyptic Australia today. Antipodes focuses on the qualities contemporary society lacks sustainability, inclusivity, community, and friendship and is aimed at young adults who are disillusioned with our world and worried for our planet’s ecological destiny. Cam Mackintosh is in his last year of a science degree at Melbourne University when he is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help construct a fully sustainable society on an island off the coast of Australia after a devastating epidemic. The community is given a blank slate, a brand-new eco-village, shielded from the outer world yet equipped with much of today’s knowledge and technology. August Island’s community thrives and is built on current principles such as gender equality and cultural acceptance.

I loved every page of it. Every chapter was thrilling. I can’t wait to read more books from this author. Readers who appreciate Margaret Atwood’s environmental fiction, such as Oryx and Crake, or work by Piers Torday, Frank Cottrell Boyce, and Sarah Crossan’s Breathe, will love this book.

Another trip into the Broderick coven and I again was hooked from page one. I really like how the author is able to draw in the reader and keep you interested. I can feel all the emotions as though I was right there in the midst of the action. I also like how well balanced the book is with romance and drama.

The chemistry between Max and Claudia is just amazing. I really like how this book is really outlining how both are really finding themselves. Max cause magic is new to him and Claudia cause of the bad experiences she has had all her life. I really like how the author is able to keep the paranormal realistic with each person really personified and down to earth. I like how all the stories really do relate to the last and how it is left open to continue the series. I look forward to reading more from this author and this series.

Finding this book, I was completely intrigued. Vampires and werewolves? What’s not to love? As I began to read, it did pull me in. Vampires and werewolves that want peace between them? A wolf less werewolf? That’s a new concept – especially since most werewolf stories are pretty much the same.
Now, the story, I did like. The characters were great too. The one thing that yanked me away from the story was how quick it changes to different characters and the voices seemed mudded as well. It also felt hard to follow at times since there was the main story and a bunch of little stories tangled in there too.

Blue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor is a magical story that once you start reading you won’t want to stop. I honestly didn’t know what to expect going in but I’m glad I took a chance. This is packed with magic, suspense and adventure. The authors style of writing and attention drew me into the world of magic, zayed and sorcerers. I don’t want to give up anything but will leave you with this. Lillie is just minding her own business when someone steals her purse. Her life is about to change forever. Find out what happens next in this must read. I need to get my hands on the next book like now. I look forward to seeing how everything plays out.

This started out wonderful. I enjoyed the meeting and the sarcasm. Then it seemed like I slipped into something else. All of that was gone and the book seemed to become more about a story filled with their history that needed to be told. The banter seemed gone as shock and softness became the normal. I liked the first two Zayed she met and loved their banter. I struggled making a connection to the characters except for Lillie and I do like Heath. But that seemed to fade away as well.

This is a reverse harem and also it ends on a cliffhanger. Two of my least favorite things. Why did I read this you ask? The synopsis sounded interesting and if the writing and characterization is good enough it doesn’t bother me. Plus I am always pleased when I am proven wrong. That is why I gave this one a chance.

Chased (A Cambridge Men of Honour Novel Book One): A Dark Mafia Bad Boy Romance (Cambridge Men of Honour—Dark Mafia Romances 1) by Felicity Brandon – Review by Angela Shirley

ChasedChased by Felicity Brandon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Chase is pure evil, he has to be to run the most notorious criminal gang in England but he has to questioned the is there any humanity in his soul but then Allegra comes into his life.

Chase is the leader of the most hideous criminal gang but although he demands the world and takes everything else with out question, one chance meeting makes him question himself and can does he have any humanity left in his soul to love.

Allegra is a law student minding her own business when she is almost run over by Chase, she feels the sparks from that minute but after she realises who he is, can they go there separate ways or is Allegra willing to submit to biggest gangster and become his property more than his equal.

I have to say if you are not into the darker side of life and are turned away by trafficking, degradation of people and especially violence then this may not be the book for you. I understand that this in not everybody’s cup of tea but if you truly read the story you will find a brilliantly, well written story with complex characters and nail biting twist and turns.

Is Chase a Barsteward, YES! is he evil YES! but I think this just makes for a more meaningful story, Allegra is a strong, intelligent young women who is the best character to address and fight against the bad behaviour of Chase. To see the turmoil for both of them as Chase has never met anyone who has openly defied him like she has which frustrates that he can not control her, let alone possess her and he has to try and deal with those emotions and has to learn to be more for her. Then also the dilemma that Allegra has that if she gives just a little bit to Chase will she lose her free will and become a piece of property and not an equal which is such an intriguing read.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and see where the next instalment sits.

This is the first book in The Unexpected Trilogy. I loved this story because it contains my favourite things. Supernatural beings and romance. The author does an amazing job with the characters and setting the scenes. It was a little confusing at first with the story coming from different characters viewpoints and from so many characters but if you keep at it you can figure out who belongs to which group and they it’s easier to understand.

As the name suggests its a romance story about 2 people from different groups. 1 a vampire and 1 a werewolf. Together their relationship could heal the years of pain and misery between the two groups but will they agree with this bonding? Or will the past that exists between the vampires and werewolf be too much to overcome.

Blue Summer Part OneBlue Summer Part One by Everly Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 ½ Stars

Blue Summer (Part One) is an intriguing fantasy by Everly Taylor. Imagine an adult version of the Smurfs- well that’s what this story reminded me of. There’s magic, mystery, romance, sizzle, humour, drama, an evil sorcerer, clever world-building, and a fun storyline.
As this is the first book that I have read by Everly Taylor, I really didn’t know what to expect going in- but the premise sounded interesting, and the cute cover sealed the deal. While I enjoyed the story, I really do wish it had been longer, so I could have really immersed myself in the story and really gotten to ‘know’ the characters and their ‘world’ so much better. That’s not to say that the story was lacking, just that it could have been even better had there been ‘more’.
The timeline in the story only covers a couple of days, so there is a very fast pace which made for a very quick read. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I will definitely be reading the second book to discover what happens.
So, if you’ve always wondered what an adult version of the Smurfs might be like, then this is definitely the book for you!

Thank you, Everly Taylor!

Eye of the Storm (A Gray Ghost Novel, book 2) AUDIO BOOK by Amy McKinley – Review by Angela Shirley

Eye of the Storm is an action packed story from start to finish, the story is set within the deepest of the jungle but will he be able to trust her or will she turn on him in the end.

This story is full of twists and turns, it will have you chasing the story with each turn of the page to be part of the story as you go. The book is set in the jungle and follows the story of Chris and Mari, as Chris is airdropped into this dense jungle he does not quite reach his destination and becomes stuck and unable to remember who he is and how he has got there, until he meets Mari who helps him try to understand who he is but Chris is no sure he can trust her.

Mari is on a mission of her own, this feisty, strong character who does not take any nonsense, she has grown up in the most dangerous environment but she is on her own mission which she will not defer from.

I loved this story with the twists and turns and the action had me gripped and wanting to keep listening even in the wee hours of the morning to finish this wonderful story. I loved the character of Mari, she was a kick ass women who knew what she wanted and went for it. The relationship between Mari and Chris was dynastic and interesting within the story.

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato ) by Cam Johns & Sonya Jesus – Review by Stephanie Chapman

Sons of Sindicato (Sons of Sindicato #0)Sons of Sindicato by Cam Johns
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sons of Sindicato is an edgy romance novel written by the collaborative efforts of Cam Johns and Sonya Jesus. Braelynn has just obtained her approval of being a partner in a notorious law firm. Despite all of her diligent work, Thomas Wexler seems to not be happy making her a partner. Determined to amend any hard feelings between them, Braelynn stays late and enters his office. Wexler is working on something and seems agitated at her interruption of his privacy. Tension is building and Wexler locks the office door; this isn’t the first time Braelynn has been at the mercy of her boss; only this time she has a secret that will be her saving grace.
Attorneys and clients should never be involved in anything beyond a business relationship. This suspense story involves the Giordano family and a young black female attorney needing to have a common goal. Braelynn is involved in a serious relationship with Seth, and their relationship has been a secret. After waiting on Braelynn, Seth enters the building and finds Wexler dead and his girlfriend’s clothing shredded from an attack. Immediately, his criminal mind turns on and Braelynn is thrown into the world of the Sindicato organization. Will she be able to keep her job as an attorney? Will the mob accept her as a family, or will she be left alone?
The writing is intense in this short book, and I am eagerly looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I am an avid fan of suspense crime novels and Sons of Sindicatio delivers everything I look for in a 5-star book. The action, raw emotion, and uncertainty of what path each character will take held my attention all the way to the ending. The end is perfect for a seamless transition into a sequel.

This is another great book to a great series. This is the third book in this series and it is my suggestion that you read them in order for a better background of the characters and because they are wonderful stories. This book had me hooked from beginning to end, I had such a hard time putting it down. Max is a vet and also a witch who can talk to animals. Claudia is a shapeshifter/werewolf who is barely alive laying in forest until she is found by Max. There is great chemistry between these two but there are more pressing matters to tend to than the pull they feel toward each other. This book is full of action, magic, witches, werewolves, and great characters. This is a must read! I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next.

The Earl's Scandalous WagerThe Earl’s Scandalous Wager by Wareeze Woodson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Earl’s Scandalous Wager by Wareeze Woodson is a historical period romance that does not let the readers down. In addition to romance genre themes, there are also some mystery and drama when it comes to family betrayals with all the scheming, and plotting. The beginning starts out with the main character Emily Brumville being practically given away in a wager to settle her stepbrother’s debts. Phillip Beckley Benton is the Earl of Lenbridge is the winner of this little bet and Emily was the reluctant prize to be won. Despite these unsavory turn of events, they find themselves in a budding romance as newlyweds. It does seem the family may have other ideas as readers follow these two characters. For me, this was an enjoyable read. I recommend this book to adults who enjoy period fiction and historical romance.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it was pretty good and different. The characters are well written and the way they play off each other with their little quirks.

Little heard whispers of the blue skinned Zayed in hushed whispers. They said we should fear them. And her first encounter with The Zayed would not only change my opinion but change her life forever.

Save by the Zayed kidnapped by a sorcerer for powers she didn’t have than she escapes to only be gifted such powers.

This book ends with a cliff hanger…. I really enjoyed and highly recommend this story
