Just One Time (Beaumont Creek, #1)Just One Time by Samantha Baca
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just one time by Samantha Baca is a story full of romance. The passion in the book pulls you right in.

Turning 40 is not the worst thing that can happen. She can’t seem to escape her biological alarm clock, though, and I worry that time is running out. Every day that goes by increases the likelihood that she won’t fulfill her lifelong desire to become a mother.

Her mother’s frequent unsuccessful attempts to hook her up with any new bachelors in town are enough to spark small-town rumors for months. Her bossy and overly critical parent comments never go unheard. Ignore the fact that she attempted to introduce her to the elderly widow who uses a cane and has children close to her age, Old Man Bucky, who lives across the street from her.

This is about the emptiness she’s been carrying about for so long that she fears she’ll never be able to fill it. Her extraordinarily attractive closest friend is ready and prepared to assist her in realizing her dream of becoming a mother.

There is no one she trusts more, even though it may not be the traditional manner to begin a family. They also decided that it would only take place once. Whatever happens, they go with their friendship unbroken. She is aware that this is going beyond the bounds of friendship, but this is her one chance.

Every page was exciting and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen. It is a very unique romance story. The story really brings passion into your life. I couldn’t put the book down.

Weep, Woman, Weep: A Gothic Fairytale about Ancestral Hauntings by Maria DeBlassie – Review by Shadel Ayerbe

Weep, Woman, WeepWeep, Woman, Weep by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great gothic fairytale. It has horror and haunting.

Sueo, New Mexico’s women have no idea how to live a life free of sorrows. It’s La Llorona’s fault. She scours the rivers and streams in search of the next generation of girls to baptize, shedding more tears than any woman should have to bear. They can’t do much about the Weeping Woman except avoid wandering near the riverbed at night and attempt to keep their melancholy at bay. That’s what draws her to them: the anguish and heartbreak passed down from generation to generation of women. Mercy, maybe more than anyone else, is aware of this. She nearly drowned after losing her dearest buddy to La Llorona.

She did, however, make it through. But something wasn’t quite right about her return, and she knows La Llorona won’t be content until she brings the one soul who escaped down to the river’s depths. Mercy battles for her life to escape the ties of generational trauma and reclaim her soul free of ancestral hauntings by turning to the only things she knows will rescue her: plant medicine, pulp literature, and the promise of a love so powerful that even La Llorona can’t stop it. What follows is a breathtaking account of one woman’s journey into the realms of magic, healing, and rebirth.

Falcon, on the other hand, doesn’t have to do any of that with Penny because she’s a slave in 1864 South Carolina and can’t say no to him or any other white guy. Falcon’s strategy is straightforward: first, he’ll purchase her. He’ll show her how to do it. He’s going to take her after that. She is aware that monsters exist since she is one herself. But how much longer can she keep the truth hidden? First, a dragon’s best buddy is a secret. Deception comes in second. Both offer protective armor, allowing Dahlia Nite, a half-dragon shapeshifter, to dwell among humans unnoticed. She covers herself in a cloak of falsehoods to hide in plain sight as she walks between two worlds belonging to neither. But nothing is ever indeed concealed. When different species’ severed remains are left on the riverside, Dahlia and Detective Alex Creed are tasked with solving the crime. With the help of Sentinel City’s new task force, the two are pushed on by hints that appear too good to be true.

They bounce from one crime site to the next, looking for a clear motivation among a tangle of contradictory evidence. Dahlia burns the candle at both ends, drowning in lost creatures, slain corpses, masked men—and the quest for her sidekick’s missing sister. This is a book all about the supernatural.

Murder, mayhem, dragons, and mutants—oh my! Dahlia Nite is the only one who can discern the difference between monsters and humans. She’s been hunting one to defend the other for over a century, protecting mankind from creatures that slip through the tattered curtain between the worlds—creatures like her. From the upscale, high-end nightclub sector to the impoverished neighborhood, the unknown sickness affects people from all walks of life. Its victims, driven to random acts of brutality, are attracting far too much attention to be hidden.

Dahlia and her human companion, Detective Alex Creed, are assigned to the case and are investigating the fatalities. But all they have are questions and bodies, as well as a terrified public. Dahlia is working behind the scenes with her self-appointed sidekick, Casey Evans, to figure out what or who is behind the frightening changes. This is a very good book when it comes to the big three of mysteries, crimes, and even thrillers.

Grace Locke, a disgraced prosecutor, and handicapped Army veteran is on the verge of losing her legal license forever. Grace has no choice but to turn to the evil side, defending the sorts of criminals she used to enjoy locking up while living in a no-tell hotel and eating ramen. To make matters worse, she’s battling the drug addiction that has landed her in this situation in the first place. Grace arranges to represent a trust-fund youngster accused of capital murder to pay the bills since she has few other choices to save her profession. Her strategy, however, has two drawbacks. One—Grace feels that being accused is the same as being guilty. Two, the accused is Grace’s spouse’s daughter, who is the daughter of the beauty queen who took Grace’s husband. Grace is surprised to learn that her client may not be guilty after all.

Grace believes the only reason that makes sense is that the dead man was involved in the criminal underworld. With the cops looking the other way and misdirecting her every step, the only explanation that makes sense to her is that the dead man was involved in the criminal underworld. When Grace uncovers convincing proof of her client’s innocence, the search for the true killer begins, leading her deep into Florida’s illegal pill mill trade. Is it too late for Grace to save her little client and herself from the execution chamber?

The Web of Humanity: A NovelThe Web of Humanity: A Novel by Maria Turchin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a great woman and historical fiction

Anna Venu of Arizona is a shrewd, insightful, and funny woman. She’ll need every one of those qualities to make it through the adventure she’s about to go on following the unintentional discovery of a shocking family secret. Anna embarks on a perilous journey across Vienna, Paris, and Berlin in order to solve a mystery that leads her back to the bloody closing days of WWII. When Anna’s quest unexpectedly leads her into a modern-day European political intrigue, she suddenly finds herself in over her head. Anna will have to use all of her abilities and resolve to find the truth and remain alive if she is to survive. This work, told in a unique storytelling manner, spans numerous generations and historical periods, with surprising twists and turns along the way. Readers are forced to ponder the psychological urge for hostility, racism, power abuse, and the inexorable human need for war with Anna. This book encourages readers to learn about their own ancestors’ tales while also emphasizing that we are all connected through the Web of Humanity, which is our last hope for survival.

I loved this story. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is my first book from this author and I can’t wait to read the rest of her books

Diabolical Sword: An Urban Fantasy Mystery (The Charm Collector Book 1) by Melissa Erin Jackson- Review by Shadel Ayerbe

Diabolical SwordDiabolical Sword by Melissa Erin Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a great crime fantasy read.

A sword with sentience. An artifact aficionado. There’s a whole world of problems. Harlow Fletcher is a charm collector that goes by the name of Harlow Fletcher. She understands more about the criminal underbelly than the ordinary Luma resident because she is the daughter of bounty hunters. However, once her father was slain as a result of his employment and her mother fled town, she swore off the profession for myself. She should have gone into a more secure, unrelated field, such as accountancy. Instead, she found herself working as a freelance charm collector, which is a profitable job. She has an uncanny ability to track down rare items, particularly illicit magic-laced weaponry, and she used this talent to break into criminals’ homes after the cops have taken them away for their latest transgressions. She would sell the contraband to the highest bidder once she had helped herself to it.

While robbing her last victim, she notices a beautiful sword. Her instincts tell her it has dragon power rushing through its blade, and she already has the ideal buyer in mind. Within minutes, she regrets her choice to steal the sword: the weapon is alive. It’s lightning-fast and has a temper issue, but it’s taken liking to her. She is relieved to have the sword taken away from her life one day. When the cops showed up at her house, accusing her of murder, she was less relieved. The devilish sword glides into her flat, coated in blood, as she is arguing that she did not commit the crime. They’re now on the run, pursued by bounty hunters and government-trained feline shifters. While the sentient murder weapon stands by her side, she must somehow establish her innocence.

I loved this story. I loved every page of it. Every chapter was exciting. This is my first book from this author and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
