Girl Trap (A Madeline Dawkins Mystery Book 3) by Cynthia Hamilton – Review by Jennifer Gordon

Girl Trap (Madeline Dawkins #3)Girl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Girl Trap is the third novel in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton, it follows, ‘Spouse Trap’ and ‘A High Price to Pay’. Event coordinator and private investigator Madeline Dawkins adventures continue in this story. Both Madeline and partner Mike are busy with two cases which at first glance look like simple missing person cases, however it doesn’t take long to discover that the disappearance of two sisters from Minnesota and an estranged heiress who has never touched her eight-figure fortune are not simple cases at all. Mike heads off to search for his cousin’s missing girlfriend and her sister whilst Madeline’s investigation leads her to a Catholic boarding school. Both investigations lead them into danger and soon several lives are hanging in the balance. Mike and Madeline are then faced with both daunting odds and ruthless criminals.
Having been gripped by the first two books in this series I was looking forward to this third instalment and I was definitely not disappointed. I was hooked from page one with this fast paced mystery, adventure, thriller. I love Madeline as the main character and heroine of this series and I’m always cheering her on to a good outcome. I found this a great read and was fully immersed in Madeline Dawkins world once again.

Girl Trap (Madeline Dawkins #3)Girl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Girl Trap is the third book in the Madeline Dawkins series. I would say that this book could be read as a stand alone novel, as the author, Cynthia Hamilton, gives a good amount of background information to catch new readers up. However, I always enjoy a book more when I’m already familiar with character and their backstories, so I personally would say it might be even more enjoyable if you start from the beginning of the series.
The start of the book is a refresher, reminding us of the key points that you need to know. It soon dives into the story though, and with Madeline and her partner Mike working on two separate cases there is plenty of action to keep you hooked.
I really like how the plots and characters have developed throughout the series, Madeline and Mike find themselves in uncharted waters this time and having to think on their toes. As always a few surprises are dropped in too, which makes you want to keep reading for more.
A nice, easy read to get lost in for an afternoon.

This is the 3rd book in the Madeline Dawkins series and they just keep getting better.

This book finds our two favourite PI’s splitting up and taking on 2 separate cases.

Mike takes on the case of his cousins missing gf and her sister. What starts out as a case of the gf taking his money and leaving soon becomes something more sinister as Mike and Jesse work and put the pieces together. They start to uncover things they never thought possible and when they come across a sex trafficking ring and a possible ransom they start to believe that the girls were involved in something much more sinister.

Meanwhile Madeline is on the hunt for Elise’s daughter who has been missing for years. Even though there is obviously no love lost between the mother and her daughter, Elise hires then to find her daughter Hannah. Elise tells them that she is dying and that is why she needs Hannah found. With this case and trail being really really cold will Madeline stand a chance of finding anything. When she starts putting pieces of a story together things don’t add up. A fatal crash that killed Hannah’s father is suspicious. Was it an accident like Elise claimed or was it more sinister.

This book will keep you on the edge all the way through. You can’t put it down because you need to find out the truth and the answers to these cases. Amazing read.

Girl Trap is the third book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. This series keeps getting more interesting with every book. The character growth throughout the series is wonderful. Madeline and Mike are unique and the private investigator business makes the series interesting. I love the ups and downs I felt reading this story. I also like it when the author keeps you guessing until the end. I highly recommend this book, series and author.

Girl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton was a great read! Another great addition to the madeline Dawkins mystery series. I was instantly grabbed into the story, just as I was with the other two books in the series. Great plot, great characters, this was a super easy novel to read that was full of all the emotions. Girl Trap is the third book in The Madeline Dawkins Series by Cynthia Hamilton. Madeline Dawkins is an event planner and private investigator in Southern California. Madeline and her partner Mike Delaney must work on two cases that seem fairly straightforward at first. While Madeline investigates an estranged heiress in San Luis Obispo, Mike is on his way to Los Angeles to look for his cousin’s missing girlfriend and her sister. They are both about to uncover a terrifying world where the criminals will stop at nothing to keep what they have. Cynthia Hamilton writes yet another thrilling mystery in this series. The author does a wonderful job portraying two different mysteries at the same time. There are difficult topics discussed in this book, such as sex trafficking and mental illness, but the author does so in a tasteful way. I have thoroughly enjoyed this novel and look forward to the last story in the series.

When two separate investigations seemed to be linked can Mike and Madeline get to the cause and help those who are lost in the wave of destruction.

We are back with Madeline and as usual she is busy with both businesses but when some asks her to open up a 12 year old case she jumps at the chance, but what lies between the investigation is worst than she could have ever imagined.

While Madeline is looking into the 12 year old boarding school case, Mike decides to investigate the missing persons of two people close to his cousin but when delving into the case he uncovers that the two cases may not be that far apart from each and that the two of them are going to get more than they bargained for when secrets start to become uncovered.

This story delves into the world of human trafficking and it leaves you wrestling with the couple to find the answers to the questions of what has happened to these people. I love the relationship between the main characters and there roles have developed through the two books and now the third. Although this flows quite nicely as a standalone book as Cynthia gives you a brief outline for the history of the previous stories I would recommend you to have read these books before hand, not just for the history but they are great stories too.

This story opens up Madeline to yet more heartache and please has this woman not gone through enough but she keeps sucking it up and carrying in which is one her best character traits. I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story and thought that it had just the right amount of suspense to keep you wanting to read on to get to the end. I was not disappointed and can’t wait to read the final conclusion of this great series. Thank you for great stories and brilliant characters.

☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Another great mystery with plenty of suspense.

Madeline and Mike are at it again. Madeline is searching for a missing young lady, who has been missing for 12 years. She knows something is amiss as she has not touched any of her money. Just not right. Mike on the other hand is searching for his cousin’s missing girlfriend and her sister. Both investigations come on the same day, 3 ladies missing and a small trail takes off. Will all 3 ladies be unharmed? Killed? Runaways?

Cynthia Hamilton has done it again. Her book is loaded with suspense and crime. I love her characters and the story that is wrapped around them. This story never stops, it is smooth, terrifying, tense, and builds a roller coaster. At different points of this book I had fought many emotions. Now I am looking forward to book 4. Great story Cynthia Hamilton!

The story is engaging and I was swept away and kept guessing until the end. I really love Cynthia’s writing style and love every book I’ve ever read by her. I seriously can’t get enough. Girl Trap by Cynthia Hamilton a four-star read that will trap you between the pages. This is number three in the Madeline Dawkins series and they can be read as stand-alone, but I have read them and loved them as a series, as they do each focus on a different story, but I have loved the build of the characters. Madeline and Mike are working together but focusing on different cases and what will happen in those will keep you hooked, but what will happen? Will they race against time and manage to solve the mysteries in time? Or will history come a knocking and knock something loose. I enjoyed this one, not as much as the first two, but I am glad I read it, as it does have some good drama and suspense and has left me awaiting number four.

Girl Trap is the third book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. WOW- Cynthia Hamilton certainly puts Madeline and Mike through their paces (and the wringer) in this book and has once again produced a clever and engrossing mystery for us to enjoy. Cynthia Hamilton and the Madeline Dawkins series have quickly become my go-to reads as I can always count on her to deliver an exciting story. The Madeline Dawkins books would make a fantastic television series, and in fact, they remind me a lot of the old Moonlighting series with Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis- but with more danger, excitement, and a more modern ‘feel’.
This story takes place three months after the ending of the previous book. Madeline and Mike take on two missing person cases that turn out to be anything but simple. They split the cases and begin their investigation, being drawn out of Santa Barbara in the process. For Madeline, a simple inquiry in an old missing persons case quickly turns deadly. Things are definitely not as they seem. Mike’s missing persons case quickly turns into a very dangerous sex/human trafficking investigation.
With missing women, suspicious circumstances, a spate of murders, two investigations, challenges, riddles, danger, sinister adversaries, and plenty of action- this story really took off. I found it to be a little more intense than the previous two, with more emotion and depth than I had expected. I was on the edge of my seat, with bated breath for parts of the book, while in other parts my heart ached for what the character/s were going through. Ms. Hamilton certainly didn’t hold back, putting her characters (and me) through the wringer. Poor Madeline can’t seem to catch a break, and I was left wondering how much more she can take. But she is one tough, and resilient cookie- who always finds her way through these difficult situations. She’s classy, sexy, intelligent, determined, and skilful- a perfect character for this series.
This is another cleverly crafted story in the Madeline Dawkins series. I have already read book four as I could not wait to find out what Maddie and Mike would get up to next- especially after the way this book ended! So, bring on Book #5!!! I cannot wait!!!
Wonderfully gripping reading!!!!

Thank you, Cynthia Hamilton!

Boy On Hold by J.D. Spero a very detailed and compelling five-star read. This was my first by this author and won’t be my last as I flew through this one, I adored getting to know Hen. This is a compelling story filled with family drama with Mum Marcella struggling to get everything done, working hard, then we have Tyler older brother and struggling with his own fate, then there is young Henry or Hen as he is more commonly called, he is an enigma all of his own. This tale has a wonderful way of unfolding before your eyes, you don’t get any detail before you are ready and that shows us the talent of the author. I am becoming a fast fan of this author and was very sad when this story ended as it was such an emotional rollercoaster I didn’t want it to end.

Appearances can be deceiving. And in Southern California, where the sun shines almost every day and make-believe has its own industry, it’s hard to tell what is real and what is merely illusion. Two inquiries come to MDPI on the same day that seem like fairly straight-forward missing person cases. But it doesn’t take long to discover there’s nothing ordinary about the disappearance of two beautiful sisters from Minnesota and an estranged heiress who has never touched her eight-figure fortune.

While Madeline’s partner, Mike Delaney, heads down to Los Angeles to search for his cousin’s vanished girlfriend and her sister, Madeline heads to San Luis Obispo in hopes of picking up a twelve-year-old trail at a Catholic boarding school. Cynthia Hamilton turned to writing while fighting a mystery illness that went misdiagnosed for nine years. Forgetting that she couldn’t write if her life depended on it, she wrote her first book in secret, just in case it didn’t amount to anything. Nineteen years later, she has written twelve books and published ten of them. She writes general fiction and mystery-suspense novels, as well as some non-fiction. “Once Upon A Lyme…A Tale of Two Journey” documents her harrowing odyssey through late-stage Lyme disease and the unexpected upside of becoming a writer. The story Boy on Hold by JD Spero is a suspenseful mystery book. It is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. The book is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. The story is about a violent crime that takes place in a small Adirondack town. Hen Trout is a young boy who sees the crime take plan. Tyler is the 17-year-old that is arrested for the crime and Marcella Trout is Tyler’s mother. What exactly did Hen see on that fateful night? Is Tyler guilty of the crime? Will the whole truth be revealed? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had me turning pages wondering what was going to happen next. With each chapter that I read, I found myself trying to put together the clues to what happened that night in 1991. You can’t help but feel for the Trout family as they are going through an investigation that brings forth emotions that each member of the family deeply feels. There are also heartbreaking moments as well. There are additional characters that interact with Hen, Marcella, and Tyler who are helpful, and then there are those whose motives I questioned. This is a story that will keep you guessing. I highly recommend reading it.

What will happen when Hen starts questioning the truth? Is there family secrets that could be this family’s undoing? I had no problem connecting to the characters. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hit and Run by Diane Hester was a great 5 star read.
Once I started I was pulled right in.

Raina had a creepy experience while driving home from the movies, she had been thinking about how her life has been the past 10 years when she accidentally hit a man with her car.
The man pulled a gun on her and had her drive him away from the scene. When the man passes out she ends up abandoning her car with him in it. When she finds out the next day the man is dead her life starts to spiral out of control.

We meet a couple of other characters Alec and Erin who added so much more to this story. These three find out they are intertwined in the same scary situation. There is so much more to this read but I don’t want to give anything away. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what was going to happen next. We get murder, abduction, twits and turns and so much more. All of the characters were great. This is my first read from this Author and I loved it. Raina Wilkins is forced to go on the run with a wanted killer and a homeless teen with a very deadly secret……… and until that point, she had thought she had very little to live for.
Driving from the woods in Maine, Raina hits a man, thinking it is an animal, who darts straight in front of her.
From that moment on that stranger climbs in her car, which forces her to drive on at gunpoint. Terrified with the gun pointed at her face, she did as she was asked.

Shortly after, however, this stranger gets out and disappears back into the forest.. Thinking she will never see him again after that, Alec DeMarco has left something behind when he left.
This something, others would absolutely kill to possess it.

When Alec returns to claim this, Raina is then swept into a world of conspiracy, murder and abduction. A world where even the police want her dead. Not knowing who she could trust, her life was in constant danger.

This book was a real page turner and you could feel the tension on each page. A fantastic thriller, with twists and turns keeping you guessing throughout. Raina has a troubled past which comes back to haunt her, and as a reader, you feel really involved in her character.
A definite must read.

I give Hit and Run by Diane Hester, 5 stars.

I was blown away by just how good this book was. This author is new to me and I didn’t really know what to expect. It is gripping from the very beginning and does not let go until the end. It honors the masters of suspense with a story that twists and turns, not letting you off the ride or letting you know just where you’ll go next. To make it more compelling, the story is so complex. You think it’s about one thing, oh but wait, this is going on too. Oh and is that person good or bad?

The story is amazing, thrilling and gripping written by an artist with imagination and the characters are believable and you really feel for them. I would love to see more of them in the future, especially Erin. If you are a fan of gripping thrillers, this book is definitely for you.

I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next and trying to figure out who the good guys were and who’s not. Not only was Hit and Run captivating, it had a cast of characters you really find yourself growing “close” to and really loving. Hit and Run had every element that I look for in a book and remained as intriguing as it’s synopsis eluded. If Diane Hester has more writing like Hit and Run, I truly look forward to reading more of her work. I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends and award it 4 stars.

HIT AND RUN by Diane Hester – Review by Lisa Helmick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

LOVE THIS ONE! This is one wild ride from start to finish! This is my second book by this author. I am impressed. She easily pulls me in with her writing skills and doesn’t let go until that last page. I LOVE reading that type of story! It has a fast pace and action/intrigue at almost every turn of the page. The characters are ones you come to care about and then root for them. I want to write more but don’t want to give any surprises away. So I highly recommend this and I will be keeping my eye peeled for more from this author!
