Shattered (The Torzial Affair Book 1)Shattered by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered by Via Mari is the first book in the Torzial Affair. This is a great new series by a brilliant author.
The characters in this book are completely what makes it. Jenny and Brian are hot. They connection is palpable and absolutely jumps off the page. It makes you get behind them and want them to find their way through their difficult journey.
The story is exactly what I have come to expect from this author – interesting, engaging and a page turner. It is obviously the start of a fantastic new series and I can’t wait to read more.

Vermilion Lies (The Order of the Senary, #3)Vermilion Lies by L.D. Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vermilion Lies (The Order of the Senary Series Book 3) by L.D. Rose is another amazing book in The Order of the Senary series. I love this series and the hybrid characters, I have fallen in love with each and every one of them. I love the dark and broody males but I also love the equally tough women who like their male counterparts will stop at nothing to protect those they love and consider family and help to take down the evil infestation of the world. J.D stories are enthralling, engaging and thrilling and leave you wanting more. This story is full of action and danger, drama and lies and is compelling. This book had me on the edge of my seat and often my heart in my throat as they are put through their paces but there is also a level of fun between the brothership of the Senary. The darkness, the edginess, the rawness and intrigue bring it all together to bring us something truly wonderful.

If you love something dark, chilling, thrilling then look no further. This is one series that will hook you and keep you invested. I look forward to reading the next book and what she brings us next.

Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade – Review by Karyn Taylor

Alex: An Eidolon Black Ops NovelAlex: An Eidolon Black Ops Novel by Maddie Wade
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alex is the first book in the exciting new Eidolon Black Ops series by Maddie Wade. Having already read the Fortis security series and the Tightrope series by this author, I knew I was in for a treat and I was not disappointed in the slightest.
We had already been introduced to the Eidolon guys in the Fortis Security books and I was looking forward to getting to know these guys better. I loved that this book included the Fortis guys and the ladies from the Zenobi group as these were characters I had come to know and love in previous books by this author.
This book centres around the story of Alex Martinez from Eidolon and Evelyn Garcia from Zenobi. Alex and Evelyn had been childhood sweethearts and were engaged to marry when Evelyn went missing, presumed dead. Fast forward 15 years and Alex is assigned to find and save Evelyn from a threat to execute her.
This book is very fast paced and action packed. The story will have you gripped from the very first page, something I find with all of Maddie Wade’s books. She really knows how to write a damn fantastic romantic thriller. The sexual attraction between Alex and Evelyn is hot, off the charts, both of them still deeply in love with the other. Can they keep each other alive with the major threats they are facing?
I would definitely recommend this book to all readers. In fact, I would recommend anything that this author has written. I’ve loved every book of hers that I’ve read so far.

After Wrath (The Deadliest Sin Book 2) by Gwyn McNamee – Review by Erica Fish

After Wrath (The Deadliest Sin #2)After Wrath by Gwyn McNamee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After Wrath is the second book in the The Deadliest Sin series by Gwyn McNamee If you did not read Wrath you should read that book first to get all the back information on After Wrath. Now I will take a deep breath and say that I LOVED Wrath, BUT I LOVE After Wrath a little more. Gwyn McNamee does an amazing job of linking the two stories together. There is so much raw emotion that my emotions just were all over the place. I will warn you that you may not stop reading this book until the end. This is a dark story and with Wrath being one of the seven deadly sins I expected this story would be dark. Here is my favorite quote found in the summary:
“The Dragon will rise.
Death will reign.
Because wrath is the deadliest sin.”

Vermilion Lies (The Order of the Senary, #3)Vermilion Lies by L.D. Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! This is as much of a thrill ride as the last story. It starts off a bit slow as you get to the the two main character individually. But once they come together….hold onto your hat! It’s explosive! I literally couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen to this amazing couple next. Each is strong on their own and I loved seeing their characters grow. Cindel probably did the most as she saw what she had the potential to be.

It is lovely seeing all the boys and a few of their mates/wives again. As I have stated before I love hanging with these guys and listening to their camaraderie. We got to see Jon in action and I enjoyed Dax’s thoughts on it. (Very JJ…they don’t call him the Black Bullet for nothing) not to mention Blaze, Rome and new comer Kayne. Kayne is quite the guy! He has fun with everyone calling Dax “Frosty” and Cindel a special name as well. He always banters obnoxiously with all of the Senary boys. He seems to always put a smile on my face.

Another action packed story from this series.

By: L.D. Rose

The story Vermilion Lies (The Order of the Senary Book 3) by L.D. Rose is an amazing book to read. It hooked me in from the very beginning and I got lost in the story. I loved reading about the characters of Dax Knight and Cindel Konstantinov. These two have an intense attraction to each other. There is both passion and desire between them. She has a past that has come back. Now they must face the consequences of their actions as well as deal with the chaos that surrounds them. What does the future hold for Dax and Cindel? Read this book to find out. This is a story that has action, danger, and romance. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. There are also steamy scenes that make the temperature in the room rise. I had empathy for Cindel. She is a character that I grew to care about and wanted her to feel free and also happiness. I loved that Dax is very protective of Cindel and that he would do anything to keep her safe. I also enjoyed reading about many of the additional characters that interacted with Dax and Cindel. While there are those who are helpful to them there are also others who have their own agenda and are determined that their plans succeed. Will they be stopped? I loved that the author has written the book in such a way that I felt like I was right there with the characters. I would highly recommend reading this story and series.

The story An Unexpected Sequel (Paranormal Talent Agency Book 4) by Heather Silvio is an entertaining book to read. I have loved this series ever since I read the first story. I love books that include the paranormal and this story is a good example of why. I loved reading about the characters of Robin Landon and Jackson McKee. Robin is a witch who has been ordered by a demon to kill Jackson. She refuses the order. When she meets Jackson there is an attraction. Is it just him being protective or is there something more between them? She turns to the Paranormal Talent Agency for help. Will they be able to save Jackson? Read this book to find out what happens. This story had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. I grew to care about Robin and Jackson with each chapter that I read and I wanted their plans to succeed and for them to find happiness. I also loved that the characters from the previous stories make an appearance. The story includes romance and will have you wondering what will happen next. The author does a wonderful job in creating a story that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. It is a story that I would highly recommend reading.

The story A High Price to Pay (The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 2) by Cynthia Hamilton is an amazing book to read and had me on the edge of my seat. It is a page-turner that will have you wondering what will happen next. I love how the story is written in such a way that I felt like I was right there with Madeline and her partner Mike every step they took. What starts out as a simple background check because of missing jewels turns into an investigation into murder. Will they find the one who is guilty? There is also a threat that appears from the past. There is an atmosphere of suspense that I felt when reading this book. Madeline is such a wonderful character as she is strong, independent, and has a fierce determination to find the guilty party. She is one that looks at all angles when working a case. I also loved reading about her partner, Mike. He is Madeline’s best friend and business partner. He is also very protective of Madeline and goes to great lengths to make sure she is safe. There is also the character of Lionel Usherwood who has a need for revenge. His has made Madeline his next target. Don’t miss out on a thrilling book that takes you on a ride that doesn’t end until the final page. I would highly recommend reading it.

Alex and Evelyn have history with one another and their story which started at age six is sweet and sad at the same time. Working together after being apart for so long showed that the flames of true love never go out.

I loved how much strong and intimidating Evelyn was. I want to be like her when I finally decide to grow up. The story had me from the start and didnt let go. It had romance, intimacy, suspense and adventure and I loved every second of it.

Jake the Growling Dog (Jake the Growling Dog Book 1) by Samantha Shannon – Review by Julie Lounello

Jake the Growling DogJake the Growling Dog by Samantha Shannon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jake the Growling Dog (Jake the Growling Dog Book 1) by Samantha Shannon is a five star children’s book. This is such a cute book about a misunderstood dog who growled all the time. Instead of a purr, like a cat, Jake has a growl that he lets out when he is happy. But this growl, makes everyone and every animal around him afraid of him. Then he meets a squirrel that tries to help him. As a school teacher, I loved this book for kids because it teaches them that just because someone is different doesn’t mean they are scary or mean or bad. It just means they are different and we can still be friends with them. I loved the extras at the end of the book to continue to help kids learn this important life skill.

The Brass Compass: A Novel by Ellen Butler – Review by Maura Harper

The Brass CompassThe Brass Compass by Ellen Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am typically not a fan of historical fiction. I became a fan of this author’s writing when I read her book about a museum heist so knew I was in for a ride with this book.

THE BRASS COMPASS features a strong female protagonist who goes through many things in her quest. There are a lot of layers in this interesting story. It is a history lesson, a lesson in humanity, a travel journal and a spy thriller. If the dates and locations changed, it could also be a look into our future.

This book has a slower pace, told in past and present time frame, and has enough information withheld to make it a decent mystery about certain things. It certainly held my interest as I was turning the pages.

I absolutely recommend this book.

Dinner with The Wolf (Misfits & Rogues Series Book 2)Dinner with The Wolf
By: Kimberly Forrest
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dinner with The Wolf (Misfits & Rogues Series Book 2) by Kimberly Forrest was a steamy, interesting read that had me hooked!

My first read from this author and in this series, I didn’t know what I was getting into. In saying that, I didn’t know it was part of a series at first, but the moment I read the first page I knew I missed something. Though this book did read like a standalone, there are elements that pertains to the first book, that I now need to go back and read. But overall, as the MC’s were the main focus, I didn’t feel too lost or felt like I was left out of the loop.

As for this steamy read, the author does a good job of making you not like our female MC, Vivian. I was having hard, wish she would trip and break her neck, vibes. But as the story went on, and I got to seen under her mask of vapidness, I grew to like her and really started rooting for her and Jules. Jules, he has everything you want in an alpha crazy werewolf, but it wasn’t the unlikeable kind of alpha. The protectiveness was there, but it wasn’t off putting or demanding. I love the progress of their love, and didn’t mine the quick escalation, as they have known one another for decades. This was way over due for them, and once they finally got all the misunderstandings out of the way, things got heated, in a good way.

Overall this book is a must read from me, cause I’ll tell you, I had this book read in one sitting. And as much as I love the fun conclusion, I need more from this world, as I believe the author has something epic planned. So please take my super high recommendation and my golden stamp of approval, that you will get hooked on this hot, love affair, with a touch of sexy madness.

Happy Reading

Beachcomber Enemy: a Romantic Thriller (Beachcomber Investigations Book 10) by Stephanie Queen – Review by Jana Teppih

Beachcomber EnemyBeachcomber Enemy by Stephanie Queen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Beachcomber Enemy is the tenth book in Stephanie Queen’ Beachcomber Investigations series and it is as brilliant as the rest of the instalments. You definitely should read the series in the order as each book builds upon the previous one when it comes to Dane and Shana’s relationship.
Beachcomber Enemy is a bit different than the previous books as generally it is Dane’s past that catches up to them and this time it is Shana’s past and it was such a fun to see how Dane dealt with it. The writer sweeps us away from the beginning and the ups and down of the waves never stop, it all ends in a cliffhanger so heck yeah I am waiting impatiently for the next instalment! I love the realness of Dane and Shana’s relationship, their struggle with their emotions, the little things, the push and pull … I also loved how we meet up with the secondary characters again and Ronny and Sassy, well … nothing more to say!
I always enjoy the hours I spend with Dane and Shana and it was no different this time! Dear writer, keep bringing us more of Dane and Shana as I don’t think we will be getting enough any time soon!

Jake the Growling Dog (Jake the Growling Dog Book 1) by Samantha Shannon was a cute, heart warming read, that’s perfect for all ages.

My first read from this author, and going way out of my comfort zone, I was scouting books for my niece when I came across this one. I took a chance and decided to give it a read before I sent it off. This sweet read has such a wonderful lesson about judgement, friendship, working together, and looking beyond what we see. It hits a little home, as I can relate to Jake. I have a strong blunt personality, and people don’t always take to that. This book shows the progression and the way one outstretched hand can change everything. Oh and I have to touch on the illustrations, they are beautifully drawn, and flowed nicely into one another. So bright and inviting, with clean line work, it’s a delight for the eyes.

Overall this book is perfect a read for anyone, and everyone. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that this book will warm your heart, and have you looking out for Jake’s in the future.

The thing I love about this series is that the books are fun to read including this one. I was a little surprised that Robin Landon got her own book. Her character wasn’t well liked in the previous books. As a demon’s minion, what is there to like? She’s on the wrong team. In this story, you realize that there is more to Robin. She’s a person with feelings who finally grows a backbone and refuses the order to kill Jackson McKee. Obviously the demon is not happy and puts a hit on Robin as well. Trying to keep herself and Jackson alive, Robin swallows her pride and asks Catherine for help.

What follows is another fantastic story filled with mystery, mayhem and romance. Can the girls keep them alive? Will they find the hitman? Will Robin have her happy ending? You have to read to find out.

Out of the Box Collect: A Second Chance Romance Series by Jennifer Theriot was definitely a marathon read.

I enjoyed each of the three but I felt the third book was the best of the three. The first two had time where they seemed to lag for me but the last book kept me reading to the point I was mad when I had to stop long enough to cook supper.

The kids were great but Todd was by far my favorite one. There were little things I loved like the Longhorns and Cubs connection since those are my teams and references to different areas here in Texas. Also loved how Olivia wanted to take care of herself even when she really didn’t need to because Ash was just so amazing, almost too amazing but she deserved it.

The Brass Compass: A Novel by Ellen Butler – Review by Liz Vrchota

The Brass CompassThe Brass Compass by Ellen Butler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The first time I really got a chance to get to know Ellen Butler’s writing was with her fabulous Karina Cardinal mysteries. I love each of them and was super excited to see a historical fiction from her especially when I found out it was centered around WWII, an absolute favorite time period of history for myself. One thing I adore about Butler is the strong and evident way you can tell she pours herself into whatever she is writing about. You can definitely see the amount of time spent pouring over each detail. It makes the story rich and immersive.

The Brass Compass takes us on numerous dangerous and white-knuckled situations with Lily St. James, an American who was recruited to the civilian OSS as a spy during WWII. As you can imagine this was a very scary time and there were lots of situations that people found themselves in that they never would have imagined themselves facing. I loved how this was written as a fiction with fictional characters, but Lily St. James is ever as real as anyone that would have a real story. I can’t wait to see what else Ms. Butler will churn out. I know it will be fantastic and on my TBR list before I even glance at what it is about.
