Cynthia Hamilton started writing 2000 as a means of coping with a mystery illness that was finally diagnosed as Late-Stage Lyme Disease nine years after the onset. Writing has been her lifeline and a way to channel that overly-active inner voice. That horrible disease turned out to be a blessing in disguise, giving her a career she never imagined for herself, one that never gets old.

 

As of 2021, she has 13 books to her credit, 11 which are in print. She is currently working on the 7th book in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series, “Other People’s Money.” She lives in Santa Barbara, California with her husband of 41 years. Jen Luerssen grew up in New Jersey and then lived for 20 years in the San Francisco

Bay area. She has held various jobs in her adult life. Some examples are nanny, waitress,

receptionist, dispatcher, caterer and finally teacher. She spent the past 8 years teaching 4th and

5th graders, until last year when she felt the call to write. It’s been plaguing her thoughts and

dreams for years, and those thoughts finally fought their way out.

Jen loves to read, obsessively. She has an unhealthy attachment to her e-reader and is rarely seen

without it. She’ll read anything, but especially loves a good smutty or a post-apocalyptic young

adult book.

After “retiring” from teaching, Jen sat down and wrote a book and it was the most fun she’s ever

had working. She is self-published even though she’s not sure how it works and hopes that

people like her stories.

After her matriculation at CAU, she received a Master of Arts in Teaching in Special Education K-12 from the University of Memphis, and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University. She currently serves as a Special Education Advisor with Shelby County Schools in the Division of Exceptional Children where she supervises special education classes at several schools. Yvonne is the co-author of The Ride of Pride, a children’s book that tells the story of African American inventors and how we use their inventions daily.

She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she previously served on the Leadership committee, was the Health Initiative chairperson, and Pan Hellenic Council representative. She was a former Historian for the Pan Hellenic Council. She is also a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated.  Recognized as Alumni of the day from Clark Atlanta University, Alumni Association. She is a Leadership Memphis graduate. Yvonne serves as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, which provides services and housing for parents/family members of children with childhood cancer while they receive treatment at St. Jude Hospital. She volunteers with the Union Mission, a local homeless shelter. She is a former member of the Feed the Need ministry, a program that feeds homeless individuals throughout the Memphis area.

Glenn Maynard is the author of Strapped Into An American Dream, Desert Son Trilogy, and Chatroom With A View. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Connecticut, and a degree in Communications. After spending four years living in Denver, Colorado, he returned home to Connecticut and now resides in Wethersfield. Glenn has a son named Andrew. As a travel correspondent for three newspapers while exploring the United States, Canada and Mexico during his one-year RV journey, Glenn published a total of 20 newspaper articles. His story was captured on the NBC local news upon his return.

Inter-racial tension comes to a head when the queen of the tiny realm of Arcadia is assassinated. The queen’s two daughters were also supposed to die, but both attempts were botched, and the realm is now in the hands of the eldest daughter, whose cruelty is honed to a fine point by her paranoia.
The Ellisians have a matriarchal society, where males, with their weaker Negaforce, have no value. They are discarded at birth and sent to be trained as mindless soldiers, overseeing the Cadians. When the queen’s youngest daughter becomes curious that some of these Brethren soldiers are her brothers, it triggers an unstoppable sequence of destruction.

Finally I have the time to do what I love best: writing. After twenty years teaching science in a secondary comprehensive school, I am relishing the freedom to be able to get down on paper all the ideas I have been carrying around in my head.

 

My writing doesn’t fit neatly into any particular genre. My third and fourth books come under Romance, but they’re a bit too gritty and earthy to really fit the bill. My first two books (The Glass Knight and its sequel) were first put under science fiction, but fit better under dystopian fantasy. My fifth book was meant to be an historical romance but I ended up writing fantasy again!

 

The thing that links all my books is a fascination with people and in particular, atypical relationships. None of us fit in a box and we all have our shadowy corners. Saffy, in the Glass Knight, is angry nearly all the time and has a terrible relationship with her father and half-brother (for reasons that slowly become apparent). Kate, in Seduction & Destruction, has an unhealthy fascination with violence that doesn’t fit with her privileged upbringing. Wendy, in The Kill Shot, is dealing with a Narcissistic ex and a jealous best friend. I like to think that I tell it how it is, without flinching from my characters’ weaknesses and flaws.

I flesh out my characters by watching them and listening to them in my head! Usually there are little bits of people I’ve met in them, though no character is based on any single person. I can picture how someone’s face expresses itself as they talk. I can hear the tone of voice they would use, the phrases that seem natural. My dialogue sentences often finish with three dots… because in real life people often just tail off a sentence, or someone else jumps in before they’re quite finished.

I hope my writing is also entertaining in that it has, not only some rather dry humour, but some thought-provoking ideas. I myself, love a book that educates or stimulates me, as well as entertains me. Is love necessary for a successful marriage? What technology would we try and recreate, if we lost all that we have now? Is religion of some sort essential? What do the different colours on squash balls mean? (The last is revealed in The Kill Shot!)

 

Born in south east London, I now live in Kent with my husband. I have three grown up daughters and my hobbies include photography, travel and scuba diving.
