Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2) by India Kells – Review by Sarah Oakes

Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2)Blind Magic by India Kells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A great read about independence. Sera is a witch who has recently lost her sight. But her blindness holds more secrets than she knows and brings danger into her life. Dreading the consequences, Sera wants to run but her friends want to help. Will she stay and put them in danger, or risk the consequences alone?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns that I just couldn’t put down. Well developed characters like Ian trying to move on from pain and protect people or Sera trying to carry on despite it all. The depiction of blindness and it’s struggles was beautifully done and emotive and powerful and I loved the colourful auras vivid and bright to help her see which was a lovely touch. I also loved the use of the senses throughout with smell and touch and taste and hot and cold as if you were actually there.
Great cast of supporting characters like Finn and Violet with humour the book needed or Hunter as the calm source of reason.
I loved the fantasy nature of the novel with its shifters and witches mixed with realism of coffee shops and libraries which made for a captivating read. The use of magic was spellbinding each time with different powers alongside fast paced action and high stakes for a brilliant read.
Overall, a brilliant read and I would give it five stars.

Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2) by India Kells – Review by Roxana Yoss

Blind Magic (The Sanctuary Chronicles #2)Blind Magic by India Kells
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have to say that Blind Magic is the first book that I read by India Kells. I was pleasantly surprised by what I read, as it had a good amount of Paranormal in it. I went in blind, without really knowing what the book really was. This was also because I haven’t read the first book in the Sanctuary Chronicles. It took me a second to follow along, but it wasn’t a major problem.

I most definitely enjoyed Sera & Ian’s world and all that they had to offer. Their quick attraction, which is undeniable is one that I loved. I liked the author’s ability to create this world, one that the reader can easily get lost within. I definitely enjoyed the writing style, character building as well as the way in which the storyline was portrayed. Definitely a 4 star book for me. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

The Boss Man: A Steamy Contemporary Romantic Suspense Novel (The Manly Series  Book 4) by Teddy Hester is a that draws you in right from the start. The passion, desire  and chemistry between the main characters, Jack and Jill is palpable and their banter is  fun and witty. Throw in a little frustration, mystery and deadlines and the story is  rounded out. I enjoyed Teddy’s writing style and the story but felt there could have  been much more to this story but that said I enjoyed the book. It flows well and is a  quick and easy read.

The Sound of Love (The Sound Series Book 1) by Maria Watts – Review by Tracy Wilkin

The Sound of Love (The Sound series #1)The Sound of Love by Maria Watts
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Sound of Love is book one in the Sound series by Maria Watts. As a new author to me, I went in with an open mind. I am so glad I did. The writing style was enchanting and really, really difficult to put down.

Nina and Chris. What to say about my feelings for these two. Put simply, frustrating yet so totally enjoyable. It was like stepping back in time to my teenage years. The same newness, the same uncertainty, the same blind innocence, the same narrow minded attitude, the same emotions, the same struggle with interpreting these unfamiliar amd scary feelings. I wanted to shale these two one minute, and hug them the next. It was a very realistic insight into a teenagers first love. Their lack of maturity and dramatic interpretation on just about every situation made this impossible to be away from. Their desire for one another was palpable, but inexperience made them unable to cope with these complex and overwhelming emotions. But heavens it was so good, I was a bit bewildered by just how much I loved this story.

Maria Watts is the ultimate in first love romance, and I am so very excited to read more of this series. 5 stars.

Four Stars

The Boss Man: A Contemporary Romantic Suspense Novel is the fourth book in The Manly Series by Teddy Hester. This book can be read as a standalone, I know this because this is the first book I have read by Ms. Hester, and I had know problem following this story. I am now planning to go back and read the first three books in this series. This book had me hooked from the very first page, and I couldn’t put it down until I read the last. It was sweet and sexy with a little mystery and suspense added in. Jack DePaul and Jillian Vickers had such chemistry and the characters were believable and down to earth. I enjoyed the witty banter and candid conversations. I love when a book makes me laugh out loud and this book did just that, but there was also mystery and intrigue that kept me guessing. This was a well rounded book that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a fun, fast paced romance.

The Boss Man ( The Manly Series Book 4) by Teddy Hester. This is the first book I’ve read by Teddy Hester. It was a fun, quick read. Its the story of Jack DePaul a great engineer who owns the company Ameritalia. They come in to help with a job that is behind or not going to make deadline. He can fix almost anything and usually does but if he doesn’t make deadline it can cost him everything. Each town offers up new women but when he meets Jillian Vickers at a bbq its different. Self Love by TL Clark is a story that has drama. emotion and takes you on a journey of growth. This story is told from the point of view of Molly. Molly is the main character, who is like many women. She struggles with weight and finding love. You are taking a journey alongside Molly as she goes through life. Her best friend is always there for her, no matter what Molly is going through.

What a great story from TL Clark. It was well written and flows with ease. You feel as you are right there with the characters. The characters are well developed and very real. They were easy to connect with and you can understand what they were going through. I highly recommend Self Love, you will feel as you are taking a journey too.

5-stars

Neverland by Melissa Jane completely crushed me! This was a truly heart-wrenching read that had me in tears, if you’re looking for a happy read this sure isn’t it. This book is by far my favourite by this author, from the first chapter I was hooked. The storyline had me so intrigued and feeling so emotional, from disgust, anger, hatred, shock and deep sadness I felt it all. Lucy’s character was so easy to connect with and her story is one I won’t soon forget.

I loved how this author wrote in both past and present moments, it kept me really engaged the whole way through as I questioned everything. Plus, it gave me insight into the love connection that Romeo and Lucy shared. A love so strong that I pray they truly found their way to Neverland.

I would absolutely recommend this book to others and I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future!

Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers #1) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Naomi McDonald

Fisher of MenFisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fisher of Men is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers series. It can be read as a standalone.

The first few chapters of the book seemed like they were taking forever to get through. The pace seemed slow and drawn out. BUT, when things start progressing with Leah and Cap, the story picked up and had me hooked. I had a marathon reading session and finished the book in a day.

One of the things that kept me interested is probably the fact that I can relate to the internal struggle, both regarding faith and the emotional aspect, that Leah goes through as she begins to unravel the structure she has been taught is the truth and proper way of living. It is emotionally strenuous to find out things about yourself that go against what you’ve been taught is proper. Add to that the input of outside sources and you’ve got a recipe for drama and heartache. Rewriting your belief system is not for the faint of heart. And not everyone has the strength to do it. Does Leah have what it takes to go after what she truly wants? Ride this emotional roller coaster with her and find out!

Even though I had a rocky start with this book, it turned out to be a spectacular read. I am glad that I gave it a chance and stuck with it.

Another awesome story by Meghan!!! In my opinion you should read the first three books in this series so you have a better background of what’s going on. The stories this author weaves so intricately gets into my head and stays there. There are dark and sadistic things going on in this story and will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are some unpredictable moments and great loss. I cannot say enough great things about this book and the entire series so far. I can’t wait to read the next one. By Phoebe Alexander
I was definitely intrigued by the synopsis of this book. I enjoyed reading about Leah Miller and Chris “Cap” Sheldon, their chemistry is off the charts. I really liked how the author portrayed the conflict Leah was struggling with between her religion and her sexuality. I thought both of the characters were really strong in their own ways along with some of the supporting characters in this story. I enjoyed learning more about the swingers lifestyle, to be honest I really had no idea what it was really about, I had only heard the term but without much detail. I think Phoebe did an excellent job with her detail and descriptions of the lifestyle and setting of this story. I found myself rooting for these two, hoping they can find a way to work through the issues and be together. You must read if you want to find out if they end up together. This is the first book in this series and I can’t wait to read the next. I highly recommend this book, keep in mind that this is an adult book.

OMG!!! I am wrecked! This book! This story! I am sitting here with tears streaming down my cheeks! My heart is wounded. The writing in here is outstanding! I could not put this book down. So be prepared to read late into the night. This story made me feel for these characters-empathy, desperation, hatred, hope and love. From the monster who is possessive and obsessive to the girl who only hopes for a chance at a better life. I was so sucked Into her life. It’s hard for me to even imagine what this girl goes through. I really wished my Hope and Love could be felt by HER through the pages so she would know someone is rooting for her. Dang! This girl!

The blurb drew my inquisitive mind to this book. I was NOT disappointed! This is my second book by this author. She can really weave a tale and make me *feel* things. Like disgust, hate and a sliver of hope even appalled! All of these characters drew me in and I hated some and adored others. Pretty sure this book will be on my mind for a while!….and that title? I Can’t help but get tears in my eyes when I think of it. That is a perfect all encompassing title!

If you want to read a book that is psychological, suspenseful, a thriller and has
some romance. Pick this baby up!

When I started reading this it felt like coming home…back to where I am familiar. I get to hang out with Shannon, Morrison and Petrosky. The two cops have a great friendship and wit about them. They are enjoyable to read. I love their camaraderie with each other. Add Shannon in and they are an unstoppable team. Then after reading I couldn’t stop the OMG that kept coming to my head. This book…….Dang! It’s a tough read! So many emotions……mostly anger and devastation mixed in with WHY??….and WHAT?…..along with a smidge of humor and don’t forget the tears. This book deals with many of the demons that live within Petrosky as well as the evilness that his job enlists him to do. This is a stubborn case that in the past has affected all three of the main characters.
Many of the secondary characters discussed were in the previous books. So while you could probably get by without reading the first 3 stories I would recommend reading them to get insight into the main characters. Building relationships takes time and investment. These main characters have done that through the last three books and they continue in this one. That being said….I’m not sure how I’m going to read the last book…..Everything is changing.

The Boss Man: A Steamy Contemporary Romantic Suspense Novel (The Manly Series Book 4)The Boss Man: A Steamy Contemporary Romantic Suspense Novel by Teddy Hester
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Boss Man is a contemporary romantic suspense novel, that is the fourth book in Teddy Hester’s Manly Series. The novel follows the characters Jack and Jillian, and their unique, head strong personalities. Jack’s a bad boy and Jilly is opinionated wildcat, which often had both of them fighting for dominance over one another. The ending of the blurb does spoil the novel for readers, and I would suggest avoiding it as much as possible, if you hate spoilers.
The story itself was very engaging and highly enjoyable. All the characters where well rounded and their interactions will either leave you laughing for days, or get you all hot and bothered. Especially when its conversations between Jilly and Jack, you could cut their sexual tension with a knife. The book is on the lower end of the steamy scale. Majority of the ‘steam’ is through Jack and Jilly flirting with each other, and some frisky business. Whilst being a low-level, it was still incredibly fun and quick to read. I devoured the book in a single afternoon, as it felt like I was watching a rom-com.
I rate The Boss Man 4/5 stars.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Transformations: The Shifter Series: Volume One (The Shifters Book 1) by Cari Schaeffer is a great start to this shifter series with a twist. These are shifters the like you have never seen before. The story is told through multiple POV’s giving you an inside look in to their thoughts and who they truly are. The only thing I didn’t like is that you were reading about one person and in the next sentence it was someone else but once I knew what to expect it was ok. Cari is good at world building and setting a scene and she writes characters that you can connect to. The story flowed well and was well paced. It seems that the story is just picking up and then ends. Now I have to patiently wait for the next installment of which I am looking forward to.

Fisher Of Men
(Eastern Shore Swingers Series, book one)
Phoebe Alexander
5 out of 5 stars

Fisher of Men is the first book in the stand alone Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This is the second book I’ve read in this series but I’m not new to Ms. Alexander’s work, I’ve started sampling some of her other series! I haven’t met a Phoebe Alexander book I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed yet and Fisher Of Men is no exception.
I read the third book in the Eastern Shore Series first so seeing where it all began in this book was a real treat, I recognized some names- Rhonda, Casey and of course Leah and Cap. By the end of the book I was left craving more and ready to go on with the series.
When you read the about the author segment for Phoebe Alexander it mentions that she writes sex positive, body positive stories and if you’re not familiar with her work yet, this couldn’t be more accurate. Each story I’ve read has had a captivating erotic theme while bringing a great, strong storyline along with it. Each of the characters I’ve “met” so far are strong and stand their ground. Leah was able to discover her true self whether it was in her relationship, sexuality or her faith and I think it shows true talent to have such a balanced storyline where there is no lack of entertainment in any area. So many times you read a book where a woman may not stand her ground right away and once Leah’s mind was made, it was made. In the same respect, Leah is the type of character that can keep a level head and really see things from different perspectives admitting fault when necessary. I really respected her character and look forward to seeing how she grows more throughout the series. As far as the storyline goes, the serendipity tie in this book is what truly sealed the deal for me!
My very first experience with “the lifestyle” and Phoebe Alexander’s writing was in the Juniper Court series book, Project Paradise. While this book has nothing to do with how incredible Fisher Of Men is, it opened me to a new genre of books, led me to this series, and honestly created a new fan of this author.

Neverland is the second “romantic thriller” I’ve read by Melissa Jane. I read Monsters incredibly fast as I couldn’t put it down and the story really stuck with me. There is one scene in particular that had filled me with chills that I can still picture now months later. When I saw Neverland I couldn’t click the download button fast enough.
If you read the synopsis it will state that this book isn’t not all rainbows and butterflies and that there are triggering topics throughout the storyline, I would consider this a thriller with a touch of romance. As the synopsis warns, this is a dark story but one that is so, so well written.
I love the narration of the story bringing us back and forth between present and past and slowly unraveling how our main character got where she is. It truly adds to the element of suspense. I struggle to type a review that does this story justice as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. It is intense and intriguing from start to finish. Melissa Jane has a talent for creating a dark, twisted tale that leaves you haunted. I loved how this story came to a close and will say I was a little surprised by the ending.
With the warning that this story contains triggers for some kept in mind, I would recommend this to anyone that loves a suspensive, addictive dark story. I read this book within 24 hours, it was incredible.

The story NEVERLAND by Melissa Jane is a book that I enjoyed reading and found that once I started it I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a story that includes one characters obsession and need for control and another character daily life that includes fear. It is a book that is suspenseful and had me wondering what was going to happen next. It is a story that has characters that I loved and those that I would call evil and cruel. One of the characters that I loved is the main female character. She is one that I could empathize with what she goes through on a daily basis. One of the other characters is a man that can be called a monster and a bully. He is cold and calculating. My emotions were going up and down the entire time I read this story. It is a book that shows the dark side of life and at times can be heartbreaking. There are also scenes that are about friendship. This is a wonderfully written story. I found myself thinking about it even after I had finished reading it. The book does include scenes that have situations of a sensitive nature.

One of the stories main characters and one that I enjoyed reading about, is Detective Edward Petrosky. Petrosky is a man that is haunted by the thought of the killers that have escaped conviction. He is affected by these thoughts and he doesn’t always use the best or wisest methods to cope. Petrosky knows that the current case that he is working on is strange and there are many questions that need to be answered. When Petrosky realizes that a killer he thought was gone is still in Ash Park he knows that he has to be tracked down and stopped. Petrosky is a man that feels the burden of guilt and grief. Will he be able to stop an evil/sadistic killer before another victim is claimed? Read this book to find out. I felt empathy for Petrosky as he is someone that believes that he has failed those he cares for. While he can be sarcastic at times or just plain cranky, he is trying to cope with pain that for him never goes away. It is also enjoyable to read about the characters that care about Petrosky. They are ones that he can always depend on even when he finds his life off track or tumbling downward. There are moments in this book that are intense and suspenseful. I had to remind myself to breathe. It also had my emotions going up and down like a rollercoaster. This is a book I would highly recommend reading. I can’t wait to read the next story in the series.

The Jack ( The Immortal Series Book 2 ) By M.K. Harkins
The Jack is the second Book in The Immortal series and although this can be read as a standalone I highly recommend reading the first book in this series as well. I thought I couldn’t love this book more than The Reader but damn was I wrong. This book has some twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what happens next. I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. This story has a bit of everything from suspense to romance and a little in between. All I have to say is Archer is my favorite character and has been since the first book.Find out what happens with Archer and the other characters by grabbing this book.i guarantee you won’t be disappointed I know I sure wasn’t. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Hidden, An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn

5-stars

This novel is amazing. The authors detail and main character development is wonderful. Every scene was easy to picture even though several were quite gruesome. This novel focuses on Detective Edward Petrosky and the changes his character faces.

Having read other novels associated with this series I can say that it can be read as a standalone book. Each book has a different main character but the other characters are mentioned and involved in each. Enough back story and detail are provided to keep the reader from being confused. I absolutely loved this novel. It kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time.

NEVERLAND by Melissa Jane

Holy cow!! This book is a dark, disturbing masterpiece!! This book drew me in from the beginning and kept its evil grip on me the entire time. As I’m reading this story I can’t believe what I’m reading but yet I am unable to look away. I could not stop till I found out what happens to Lucy, Romeo, and even Dominic. I don’t want to give anything away but I will say that this is a must read!! It will stay with me for a very long time, it feels like its inside my head, which doesn’t happen to me me very often. I can only imagine how draining this must have been to write because I know how draining it was to read, and I found it to be original and all around awesome read!! I highly recommend this book for someone who is looking for something original and disturbing, in every way!!

This is a dark romance story with a twist of obsession. This is my favorite book by this author yet. This is a dark journey of a woman who can’t seem to catch a break with life no matter which direction she turns. Lucy has taken so much through life that I just wanted to see something good happen to her. Just when I thought something good would happen, there was more twists and turns. I couldn’t put her story down and it is a must read story. I highly recommend this book.

Blind Magic: The Sanctuary Chronicles by India Kells

Five Stars

This story was filled with jealousy, magic and forbidden love. Sera is a witch and has come to terms that she is blind. This wasn’t always the case though. Now she has to worry about getting around and also if someone would be coming after her for her powers. This story had everything in it. One scene after another filled with action. The author did a really great job with these characters. You can feel the connection the characters have for each other. I really liked Ian. He was so possessive. Like any good wolf should be. I also liked that the author pushed the boundaries when it came to different creatures or otherworldly beings finding love.

Fisher of Men (Eastern Shore Swingers Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Maura Harper

Fisher of MenFisher of Men by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have been reading this series out of order and I’m so glad to finally get to Leah and Cap’s story. First of all, I read a “warning” somewhere that said “This is NOT a Christian Romance” – I appreciate whoever wrote that because in the first few pages, that’s exactly what I thought I was going to be reading. (I had not read the warning before hand) There is a very strong religious “tone” in this story that, at times, had me scratching my head about where it was trying to lead me.

This is a story of conflicts. Where do one’s beliefs come from and how much influence does the religion of our childhood gel with the religion of our adulthood. An interesting premise. As we follow the story from beginning to end, we see the MC allow herself to be pulled in different directions depending on who she is talking to. “I hate feeling like I am a bad Christian or a hypocrite, you know?”.

I have a hard time with the characters. Initially I didn’t like Leah very much. There was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way. She was a lovely people pleaser who always put others needs before her own. She has an immaturity about her that belies her age. For someone who is so “worldly” in the ways a business runs she sure was innocent about the world. “…swingers? It seemed like a mythical construct to her like Santa Claus or Bigfoot, instead of the real thing. hahahaha Cap is a strong, domineering man that I felt was a little too strong handed and almost whiny.

While this was not my favorite book of the series, I appreciate the tale the author weaves. Perhaps if I had read this story ANY other time than October of 2018, I would have had a completely different reaction to it. Which is why I’ve rated it the way I did. The author does a fantastic job of telling a story that has meaning, depth and weight to it while setting up the rest of the series. Nice job!!
