My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bad Man on Campus is the third book in the Big Men on Campus series by Stephanie Queen. Even though I have read a lot of Ms. Queen’s books now, this is the first book in this series that I have read, so I am coming into this series a bit backwards by starting here with book #3. Having said that though, this could definitely be read as a standalone- but my interest is piqued now and I will definitely be going back to read the other two books to discover what happened there and to see if there are any interconnected details that might follow through to this book.
As expected from Ms. Queen- this is a well woven story, with interesting, complex, and fully developed characters who pull you into their story right from the beginning. It is a second chance sports romance, with plenty of emotion, heart-wrenching details of tragedy + grief, baggage, struggles, drama, romance, steam, chemistry, hockey, and more.
Glory and Kace have a past history of being high school sweethearts- until tragedy struck. Fate has intervened by giving them a second chance- but Ms. Queen isn’t going to make things too easy for them. Get set for an angsty and emotional read about overcoming tragedy and taking a chance on love, again.

Thank you, Stephanie Queen!

4.5 Stars

Unlikely in Love is the first book in the Parker Lake series by Olivia Sherwood. This appears to be Ms. Sherwood’s debut novel, as I discovered when I went looking for more of her work after finishing this story, and could only find this one. I will definitely keep my eye out for more of her books in the future, not just this series, but anything else she may do too.
This is a sweet romance- with a small town setting, second chances, chemistry, friendships, banter, love, loss, emotion, humour, and just enough drama to keep things interesting.
I loved Annabelle and Wyatt- they were not only interesting, but also very endearing. Their past history definitely added an extra element of interest to the story. I couldn’t help getting invested in their story, and found myself cheering them on from the sidelines. Their story really was quite touching in parts, making for quite a beautiful read!
Looking forward to more from Ms. Sherwood!

Thank you, Olivia Sherwood!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Danielle Jacks, The Heart of Baker’s Bay is a sweet contemporary seaside romance. With wonderful characters, a beautiful setting and not to mention the baked goods it is one read you do not want to miss out on. Danielle has written this story beautifully and I cannot find a fault with it. This is one of my favourite books I have read this year. A new town, a new start to help her Gran, Jody finds more than she thought she would ever find. Unfortunately, Adam likes his town just the way it is and outsiders are not welcome. Makes for an interestingly cute read.

Bad Man on Campus: a Second Chance College Romance (Big Men on Campus Book 3) by Stephanie Queen is a new adult second chance romance. BUT it is not a happy tale. It is one story that will definitely make your heartache. I really like Stephanie’s work, the characters. I so wanted karma to get the male MC and kick his behind and then some and then I wanted to shake the female MC. But I still enjoyed it.

R. Weir never fails to deliver an outstanding tale and this book, Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel (Jarvis Mann Detective Book 8) is no exception. An action-packed thriller, crime story is what he does best. In this installment Jarvis finds himself in the crossfire and in more trouble that he has ever been in before. Just who can he trust? Is it old friends and acquaintances? Or is it the women who throw themselves at him and stab him in the back in his next breath? Certainly, couldn’t be those ensconced in the underworld, could it?

Regency romances are the stuff of dreams, well at least my dreams. Ladies and gentlemen, Dukes, Earls, and Viscounts, what more could a girl want. For me I want intrigue and courage then a dash chemistry. This is the 2nd book I have read by Wareeze Woodson and it didn’t disappoint. Matt and Isabel are just the right mix to warm your heart.

Mr. Nice Guy (Pierce Brothers Book 1) by Belinda Williams

I think every woman who reads this book will be able to relate 1000% to Chelsea when it comes to the bad boyfriends of the past.  I’m not sure why we all have to go through that string of horrible men but we do.

Chelsea isn’t a bad person, she’s actually the exact opposite but I think they guys she met sensed how sweet she is and took advantage of that.

Tom lacked confidence when it came to romance, but also hadn’t met anyone worth working through his past.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

It was also really nice to finally see a nice guy win in the story! Overall I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next installment.

Unlikely in Love (A Parker Lake Novel Book 1) by Olivia Sherwood – Review by Ashley Dover

Unlikely in Love (A Parker Lake Novel Book 1)Unlikely in Love by Olivia Sherwood
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this book! The location, the people, the friendships, and the atmosphere of family is just memorable. Growing up in small town USA, I can understand the camaraderie that is built between members of the same community.

Annabelle Cleaver was raised by her grandmother, Sophie, at her farmhouse on the outskirts of Parker, Oklahoma. Sophie has just passed away, and after some neglect during her grandmother’s illness, Annie has to start to put the farm back into working order. Everything needs repairs from the house to the barn. It’s going to be a long, hot summer.

Wyatt Holloway has returned to Parker after serving three tours in Afghanistan with the Army. He has returned home scarred both mentally and physically. Physically, there’s a scar that runs down the side of his face. Mentally, he suffers from PTSD which causes him to go to dark places when he’s not busy and causes his night terrors.

Call it fate, or perfect timing, but Wyatt’s dad encourages him to go out to Annie’s farm to see if she needs any help. Reluctantly, Wyatt drives out to the farm and is spellbound by the adult version of Annabelle Cleaver. Annie cautiously agrees to have him come to help her on the farm.

How will this partnership between a grieving Annie and a scarred Wyatt help them both?

Awakening (The Journals Trilogy Book 3) AUDIO BOOK by D.M. Earl

Awakening is the third book in The Journals Trilogy and Holy Heck. This is a Romance Suspense that will freaking pull you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end. To say this was an intense read/listen is a huge understatement. The narrator did an amazing job of bringing the characters to life and the raw emotion was chilling. There are some things that may ne trigger for some so I would highly recommend not listening to this with anyone under 18. This follows Quinn, Stone and Walker. She been through hell and back and is stronger than she realizes. Stone is helping her to be stronger and is doing everything to make sure Walker will never bother her again. You guys this is a must read/listen grab a copy to find out what happens next. Im looking forward to listening to more books by this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really do adore novels set in this era, especially when written as well as this one was. Wareeze Woodson did a wonderful job keeping true to the time, and I enjoyed every moment in this historical romance, with a huge dollop of mystery.

Oh, Isabel. Wanting to do the right thing, or possibly to smite her horrendous brother, she tries to stealthily return what was stolen from Viscount Rutherford. Her efforts landed her on the wrong side of a gun, and then with the choice of marriage or jail. I cannot blame her for her choice, truly. At that point I was giving the Viscount the stank eye myself though. But what followed was a story that earned every one of the five stars I’m giving it. I was enjoying the growth of Isabel and Matt, their romance and trying to figure out WHO!

I am a big fan of historical romance, and this story did not let me down. It takes place in the year 1802. We meet Isabel Carlyle and Lord Matthew Rutherford. Isabel desperately wants to get away from her half brother Edgar. Matthew doesn’t realize that Edgar is not trustworthy and that Edgar has been stealing from him. I spent a lot of the story wanting to scream at Matt and tell him to wake up! Neither Isabel nor Matt realize that they love each other. Enjoy reading how they discover their love and thwart the men who want to do them harm!

Very light in most places with pictures to accompany some pieces. A wonderful collection of the inner workings of the human mind.

When Lucas finds that is girl is taken by the dark fae, nothing will stand in his way to rescue her. Will the dark fae win or will Lucas save his girl in time…..if you like stories with magic, action, fantasy along with MC Fae (which is new and very intriguing) this book is for you. This book was a blast to read. I instantly fell in love with the characters and was invested until that final word. I had to know how these two would end up and I know I will be back for more Parker Lake novels in the future. In fact I am so excited this is the first book in the series. I love when you get a great first book and excited for that next read built up so fast. I can’t wait! This book will make you want to cry, rip your hair out, and fall in love all over again, all in one fell swoop and that is a hard feat in one neat and well edited package. Olivia Sherwood does a wonderful job of delivering that with her novels! I felt like I could relate a lot to Annabelle in some ways and that just had me even more invested. This is one book you don’t want to miss out on!

Remember His Name (Remember My Name Series Book 2) by Laurencia Hoffman – Review by Felicia Bates

Remember His Name (Remember My Name, #2)Remember His Name by Laurencia Hoffman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Remember His Name is the second book in the Remember my Name series by Laurencia Hoffman. When I quickly clicked on this book, I hadn’t really noticed it was part of a series! I jumped in at book two, not knowing what to expect nor certain if I would be able to follow along. I ended up enjoying the book and following Wren, often connecting with him, and really sympathizing with his sensitivity as an empath. If you missed the “warning”, this book covers a lot of sensitive topics and may trigger some readers. Though the story contains some dark elements, this built strong, relatable characters that evoked true emotion. There were times I was reading that I felt  uncomfortable because the emotions just leapt off the pages. Conversations between characters, especially between Wren and his mother were so real, I felt like I was watching a movie play out not just reading a novel.  I would consider Remember His Name a 4 star read and will happily go read book one now. Looking forward to more from this author.

Flash Point: Nite Fire Volume 1 AUDIO BOOK by C. L. Schneider – Review by Lorralei Hoerner

This is a very good audio. If you like dangers, dragons, mystery with a strong female character this is for you! I loved Dahlia’s snappy no nonsense attitude. She is quite bad azz! When Dahlia escapes her own execution and flees her home, she lives then among the human population. There are murders in Sentinal City and she tries to help solve them while not revealing whom she is. Love the mystery and twists in this story. The narrator is fantastic in this audio!

Ugh I could not wait to get my hands on this book and now I am dying for the next one. That is the only negative I could possibly think of with this thriller with a twist of romance to keep the heartstrings bleeding… It ends fast. At least for me it did, as I was quickly sucked into this thrill ride and read well into the night to find out how this book would come to a close. I knew this would be a mind bender after reading the first in the Remember My Name series from Laurencia Hoffman, but man I have to say there were definitely some twists I did not anticipate to see when I saw the premise and teasers for this book. I was so happy with how well this book represented the MM genre as well, something I think Hoffman does a great job with in her novels. You can tell where her passions lay and I love it. I cannot wait to see what the next novel will hold!

The Myder Bird Tattoo by Julia Colbourn – Review by Erica Shoebridge

The Myder Bird TattooThe Myder Bird Tattoo by Julia Colbourn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is seriously amazing. At the start, I was a bit disengaged, as I found it hard to empathize with the ethereal, detached Ellisians. When I saw the heroine, Elfern, start to remember herself and act with bravery, honesty, and kindness, I was totally hooked. Colbourn has created an amazing world filled with life. There are so many characters in this book, and each have their own personalities, fears, and strengths. Elfern is such a rich character you can’t help but love her. The struggle between factions was handled with compassion and clarity, and I was so engrossed in this world that I read this whole book through in one shot. Will there be more to the saga? I sincerely hope the Colbourn has a long and illustrious career as a writer, because I’ll be buying whatever she’s selling. Do yourself a favour and read The Myder Bird Tattoo!

AUDIO BOOK

By D.M. Earl

☆☆☆☆☆

This is a full length dark suspenseful romance. Due to the theme and contents of this story. I recommend only those over 18 should be reading this story.

Quinn has escaped her horrible past, with the help of Stone and his men. She is ready to move on, but something still lurks in the shadows. Could it be Walker again? Where is Stone and Walker?   Quinn must gather her strength to get her family safe, once again. Where is she safe? Will Quinn ever be safe again? This is not a nice romance.

D.M. Earl has written this powerful intense series. Everything Quinn has is a fight to keep. I hate to see this series end, but all good things must come to an end. I love each and every character in this series. I love the quick page turning rollercoaster ride. The emotions are out there and ready to greet you. I hope you love this series as much as I have. Well Done D.M. Earl! Well Done!

It is the year 1802 and Lady Isabel Carlyle is a twenty one year old woman on a mission to restore her possessions as well as those not her own, she is hoping to reclaim her family jewels and return some important bonds at the same time, it is a risk, but one she hopes can finally free her from her current living situation. Viscount Matthew Paul Rutherford is in a bind of his own, in order to find relief from his current living situation, he has to find a bride before the month’s end, however, he hasn’t had much luck so far, his last two betrothed suffered from fatal accidents before their nuptials, so he is losing hope now of ever finding one.

As Lady Isabel heads towards the empty residence of Viscount Matthew, she is soaked to the bone thanks to the dismal weather she has walked through, but she is determined to see her errand through to the end, so she approaches under the cover of darkness and manages to avoid the patrol of the guards and levers open the door of his study. As she quietly enters, she locates her missing jewels but just as she is about to place the bonds into a drawer in the large desk, when the inner door opens and she comes face to face with the Viscount who it appears is home earlier than expected and pointing a gun straight at her heart. As he approaches her, she is paralysed with fear, but as he empties the bag she was holding of her belongings, she considers escape, however, soon realises that it would be a fruitless endeavour and would probably only get her killed sooner. The Viscount is less than impressed with this little thief and intends to make it known, but when she replies that he hasn’t the right, he mirthlessly laughs and states that he would normally call the constable and have her arrested at this point, however, he is quite taken with her looks and fiery countenance, but when she explains why she was there and the circumstances behind it, he does not believe her.

As the Viscount considers the position he is in, he considers the young woman and as she tells him more of her story, he is more inclined to believe that she is a liar and a thief, but when she professes her innocence yet again and asks him to let her go, he considers his options and while doing this, he takes her up to a room in the house and binds her to a bed, after removing her wet clothing and says he will return shortly. While he is gone, Lady Isabel tries desperately to escape from her bonds, however, she is unable to and just causes herself more harm, but her mind cannot stay still and she goes through all her options over and over again and as unlikely as it seems this is actually a better option for her. After a while, the Viscount returns and gives her a choice, either she marries him, or he calls the constable and she will be sent to the city’s gaol, she is full of disbelief that despite being a sensible person, she has been put into this position and she sees no way out of it, but will she agree to marry the Viscount and try to make him see the sense in what she is saying, or will she risk the gaol and the life it will lead to? This is a historical romance with an element of the unexpected as the story develops and the characters draw you into their lives and encourage you to follow them through trials and tribulations until the conclusion is reached.

I absolutely loved the way this story started. Just go ahead and open it up in this unheard moment of a lady robbing a viscount. Pure genius. It hooks immediately, and you just have to keep reading to find out what happens. It’s easy to love the hero, Matthew, but personally couldn’t stand many of the characters. Maybe that was intentional. I will say that there were instances where I felt like the main characters did not stay in character. Overall, great plot and real characters.

Annabelle is back inheriting a house what will she do, being heartbroken but in walks Wyatt her high school crush and with that asking for a job, will she be able to keep her heart in check or will he creep under her skin and have a place in her heart.

Wyatt is broken, back after three tours he needs something were he can recover and regroup. When he moves back to his home town hoping to get his life in order but when a curve ball comes his way in the girl who got away it all becomes a bit more complicated.

This is the first book I have read by this author and loved every word written, the characters were well developed and just jumped off the page. I loved the strong character of Annabelle and her determination to make the farm work and not afraid to ask for help. Wyatt was a brilliant counter to Annabelle’s character with there chemistry and witty banter just adding to the story.

I can’t wait to the read the next instalment in this brilliantly series.

The Heart of Baker BayThe Heart of Baker Bay by Danielle Jacks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Heart of Baker’s Bay by Danielle Jacks follows the path of Jody and finding where she fits in the world. She has always known city life and has been in constant limbo of job security and lives rent free with her sister. Due to a promise made that only she is able to keep, Jody finds herself at her grandmother’s cafe in a small village of Clover Bay. Clover Bay is where Jody will begin to discover her true self and her passions in this world, to include a handsome, brooding man named Adam.
The Heart of Baker’s Bay is a sweet story to follow. It flips between Jody and Adam’s story very nicely and makes you want to see how their two worlds combine to one. The characters are all lovely, including Jody’s family members whom I disliked for a while in this story. The description of Clover Bay seems like a quaint village on the coast of England that I would love to visity, if it was a real place! It was a quick, easy read that keeps you hoping for a happy ending. Recommend for a rainy day or beach read.
