Antipodes (Antipodes Book 1) by T.S. Simons – Review by Emily Beehler
The synopsis of this book was intriguing which is why it summoned me to read it. The book does start slowly, but of course that is to give the reader time to understand the world building and the intent of the author. Personally, I enjoyed this book! The protagonist Campbell “Cam” is a delight to read as we can connect with him on a human-to-human basis. He finds himself in world now that is plagued by well a plague. A new virus spread globally that is killing people faster than the nations can fight it. This forces Cam to learn how to live in a world where society is changing in a post-apocalyptic world. Since society is crumbling, he is chosen to live in a utopia of sorts that hasn’t been touched by the virus and its effects on the world. He is joined by other people who were selected based on not only their merits, but what value they can bring to this budding society of people who were chosen to leave Mainland and Mainland society. What I like about this book was again how human the author made Cam. He is given these choices and lessons, that do affect those around him and can have both good and bad consequences. The reader also gets to read about complex love with Campbell and his lovers. This read is also a good blend of post-apocalypse, fantasy, and romance as is intertwines the three. Overall this is a great read.
