Amnesia (Centrifuge Duet, #1) by Kylie Hillman – Review by Jenni Bishop

Amnesia (Centrifuge Duet, #1)Amnesia by Kylie Hillman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Imagine waking up and not knowing who you are. Imagine someone telling you who you are. Imagine someone telling you how to live. Imagine a family willing to do anything to ensure having it all. Imagine living with a monster. Imagine the man who is supposed to love you going to any lengths to ensure you were his. These are all the things that Amber had to deal with whilst being held hostage by a deranged man who said he loved her but if this hell is love she would rather not know.

Amber St. George is being kept against her will only she doesn’t know it. After spending her life hating the very people who were supposed to love and protect her, Amber is now faced with bringing down the very people who destroyed her, only she is taken and her life as she knows it is over. Or is it?

Jaxon Ray has only ever wanted one thing, the one thing that despised him. Now that he has found her he is not going to let her go. She will be his and she will love him only she doesn’t know it. He is willing to do anything and I mean anything to make her his. Now that he has her he is keeping her mind captive. He is ensuring she has no memory of her life before him. He is ensuring she only knows him and ensures she believes his lies by keeping her in a constant state with Amnesia.

Will Amber ever regain her memory? Will Amber ever know what this monster has done to her? Will Amber ever be free of the monster? Will the lies ever come to light? Where are the people who should love her?

Kylie Hillman has done a brilliant job of weaving this tale and keeping you guessing from start to finish. The story packed full of lies and deceit, pain and torture, rage and power so much so that I feel like I need revenge. I feel like I need to bring this monster to justice. This is a very dark story and the ending will leave you cursing up a storm. I cannot wait to read the second book to this series. If you are looking for a psychological suspense to read then this book is for you so grab a copy.

A Way Back Into Love (Love, #1) by Veronica Thatcher – Review by Jenni Bishop

A Way Back Into Love (Love, #1)A Way Back Into Love by Veronica Thatcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Way Back into Love by Veronica Thatcher is a contemporary romance book and is written in the third person. The book is full of drama as the story revolves around our two main characters Emily Stevens and Derek Thorpe. The two have been best friends since their first day of school but after one drunken night we see Emily moving out of town. Now years later she is returning home and having to confront a past she thought she had put to rest only to realise that things are not always as they seem.

I must say that I was not expecting some of the twists and turns that occurred but the secrets and lies and deceit you will not see coming. Even though the story goes from the present to the past quite frequently you will not have any trouble following it.

I enjoyed the story even though I did find the story a little on the predictable side but you will find that you have to keep reading because you just want to know what is going to happen next and where the story will lead. There were times when I thought the main characters, Emily and Derek were a little naive and immature, and once they got their act together they were fun and sassy and their banter often had me laughing at their antics. I loved how they immediately returned to their easy best friend relationship despite all the hurt and misunderstandings. Parts of the story line surrounding the hospital, I found reminded me a little of one of my favourite TV shows, Grey’s Anatomy.

So if you like a little romance and drama, fun and an easy read then look no further.

The Talented Mr. Maxwell by Julia Harlow – Review by Jenni Bishop

The Talented Mr. MaxwellThe Talented Mr. Maxwell by Julia Harlow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Talented Mr. Maxwell by Julia Harlow is a romance story that is full of drama and sadness, passion and anger.

Dorrie Applegate enjoys her job at the Omni publishing company and now finds herself on a plane on the way to her first assignment. Her assignment entails a trip to London and a written biography on one well known, male model, Mr Grant Maxwell. However, the hot and sexy male who is sitting beside her has other ideas. He is trying to get to know the lovely young woman sitting next to him, he is smitten with her and wants to get to know her better. Will Dorrie realise who this stranger is? Will Dorrie find more than a story from this man?

Grant Maxwell is one sexy and in demand male model and one really nice guy. He was definitely aware that he was a little different from other models and the most noticeable one was his age. He knew that his age would change his career and that the younger ones on the rise would one day take over. Just what that change would be he did not know.

Dorrie and Grant have sparks flying when they can no longer keep their hands off each other. They are very attracted to each other and they both know what they want and that is each other. As they start to form a relationship they are confronted with jealousy and trust issues, in which I found both of them to be a little bit immature when it comes to relationships. Being as popular as he is everyone thinks he has had whoever he wants whenever he wants when it comes to women, but the truth about his relationships is not what it seems. Dorrie has never seen herself as the beauty that others saw. Due to this and her other qualities it only added to her allure and could stop men but it had been a while.

What will happen when they are forbidden fruit? What happens when someone gets hurt? Will they finally see they are meant to be together or will they walk away for good? Will Grant decide what his heart truly desires?

At times I really wanted to smack Grant and I really had to question some of his motives and judgements. Poor Dorrie I just wanted to shake her and make her take a good look at herself for once. The story will keep you engaged until the end with all the twists and turns and things you never saw coming.

Virtue of Death by Randi Perrin – Review by Jenni Bishop

Virtue of DeathVirtue of Death by Randi Perrin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Randi Perrin has written a little gem with this paranormal romance Virtue by Death. This angelic story is well written and is a romantic story with a twist and is a happily ever after. It is a standalone book but I wonder if Randi has more of those quirky, sassy and yet sweet characters in store for us?

Sera owns her own shop and has always loved baking. By day she is a lover of baking but at night she is the Angel of Death. Sera loves both jobs, but lately she has to fight demons to get to the souls of the dying to heaven before they get to them. Sera also loves her best friend and fellow angel, Cheryl, whom you will adore. Where Sera is sweet and sugary, Cheryl is all sorts of sass and snark but they complement each other beautifully. Even though Cheryl is an angel, she is a different type of angel to Sera, she can save lives. Both take their angelic jobs seriously and adhere to the rules religiously.

Journalist and food critic, Destin, is given baked goods to review for his job and little does he know that this one review will change his life forever. Destin writes his review for a shop that sells baked goods but after reading the review the owner, Sera, can not believe what she reads and decides to give him a piece of her mind.

Will Sera open up about her secret? Will Destin be the one she trusts? Will Destin believe in Sera? Will Destin or Heaven be the one to break her heart? Can Sera forgive and move on? Will Sera be destroyed by the demons or will she eventually outsmart them?

This story is full of friendships and love. We learn that true love is worth any sacrifice and because of this, the strength of the girls friendship is tested when Heaven throws a curve ball their way. I love the banter between Cheryl and Destin which ensures just the right amount of humour when things get a little tense or down. I enjoyed the plot and as well as the sense of humour. This is one book not to be missed.

Skypunch (Ascenders #2) by C.L. Gaber – Review by Jenni Bishop

Skypunch (Ascenders #2)Skypunch by C.L. Gaber
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

CL Gaber is one excellent story teller as she will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat as you read her books. Putting the book down until the very end is not an option, as this series will pull you in and leave you wanting more. These books are definitely not standalone books. You need to read each of them in the correct order to fully understand all the world that CL has cleverly weaved in this story of Walker Callaghan. This book continues with the same characters we enjoyed in the first book, but there are many new introductions to some new FREAKy characters as well.

This book picks right up from where book 1 finished off. The journey continues with Walker and Daniel realm jumping and after they have returned from their visit to the living realm they are sent to be punished. The conditions that they have to contend with will set your heart racing and will have you wanting to wreak havoc on those doling out their punishment. Walker and Daniel find themselves released from their confinement and slaves to a Higher Authority that needs them to return to the living realm to find something long buried. To refuse is not an option. Daniel and his family come face to face with their past in a way they never expected and the chaos that brings to them.

I really enjoyed the growth of Walker and Daniel and their family and all of their friends. I particularly enjoy reading about all the celebrity faculty members and those of the Higher Authority and look forward to who we may meet next and their roles within the stories. There are many, many secrets within secrets in this wonderful world that will keep you captivated from book to book. This wonderfully written book will keep you entertained. You will find yourself smiling and laughing at their antics and rooting for them to overcome all terrible things that happen. The characters are goofy and fun, engaging and clever. I am looking to continuing the adventure with them in the next book.

Not Leaving (Parker Siblings, #2) by Leigh Ann Lunsford – Review by Jenni Bishop

Not Leaving (Parker Siblings, #2)Not Leaving by Leigh Ann Lunsford
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Not Leaving by Leigh Ann Lunsford is the second book in her Parker Siblings series. This one picks up where the first book, Not Enough left off, so I strongly suggest that you read the first book before this one. Leigh gives so much depth and character to each of her characters and the attention to detail for the world in which the Parker siblings and family live.

Addison Parker and Tyler James have been together since he saw her on the first day of school. Their love is supposed to be the kind of love that lasts a lifetime, or does it? Tyler has made some seriously stupid mistakes in his life and they all revolve around him running from the one person who has loved him unconditionally. The one person who takes him back when he realises his mistakes, but now she is truly shattered and he is the one who has broken her. Addison needs to think about more than herself this time and realises that she can never, ever let him back into her life. He has left her nothing but a shell of her former self. What happens when Tyler returns to reclaim the woman he loves? Can he ever live with himself for breaking her? Can Tyler help Addison find herself again or is he too late? Can he convince her he is still the man for her? Can he convince her he has changed? Will Addison ever let Tyler back into her life?

I really enjoyed both of these characters but wanted to slap Tyler senseless at times and some times I could kiss him. Addison makes you just want to wrap your arms around her and make it all better. She has been through so much and Tyler’s latest stunt has left her numb and alone, even though she is surrounded by family. Each and every character in this series are all strong people and each have their own stories. As I stated with the first book the Parkers are a crazy, fun loving and dysfunctional family. But they work and they are there for one another, no matter the cost. Their bantering and their antics will keep you wanting more. Even though there is heartache and sadness as a family they can overcome everything.

Leigh Ann Lunsford is now one of my favourite authors as this series has fast become one of my favourites as well. I am now off to read book 3 so enjoy!!

Only the Pretty Ones (Angry Girl Crime Stories Book 1) by Karen M. Bryson – Review by Jenni Bishop

Only the Pretty Ones (Angry Girl Crime Stories Book 1)Only the Pretty Ones by Karen M. Bryson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely love thrillers and mysteries. Throw in a touch of romance and I am hooked. This story had my attention from the very first page until the very last word and most certainly did not disappoint!

Karen has done a fantastic job of weaving this story together, given the content, that certainly delivers a story on the darker side of life. Karen’s natural writing style flows easily and leaves a mark on you as you follow the many twists, turns and ups and downs of this dark and suspenseful, crime, romantic thriller. This story certainly touches on some themes that many may find extremely difficult but Karen has done a wonderful job when addressing and incorporating these issues.

Maxie Ford’s sister, Ella, was standing right in front of her, now she is gone, missing. Maxie’s own fears from the past come rushing back and she fears that history is repeating itself all over again. Maxie fears for the worst and when the police don’t seem to care she knows she is in a race against time to find her. With the help of her best friend, Tyler, Maxie ends up enlisting the help of a well known local drug lord, ‘Mickey Finn’ Donovan. As Maxie works alongside this man she is drawn into a world she never knew existed. A world where only those on the seedier side of life can survive but only if you know how. Throughout the story you find yourself on the edge of the seat with your heart in your throat as they are thrown into situations that are definitely scary and nerve-wracking.

I found myself cheering for Maxie and her new found gang and getting the job done. Watching those get their comeuppance definitely made me feel vindicated for those wronged. I was not always able to see what was coming and what did come often left me with goosebumps. This is definitely not a lighthearted romance story but I found myself looking at the drug lord with new found appeal. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more by Karen and the Angry Girl Crime Stories series.

Terrence: A Short Story (UNDER GROUND #0.9) by Alice Rachel – Review by Jenni Bishop

Terrence: A Short Story (UNDER GROUND #0.9)Terrence: A Short Story by Alice Rachel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Terrence: A Short Story is a story that is part of the Under Ground Series by Alice Rachel. Alice touches on a subject that is still taboo in a lot of places but is becoming more accepted. We can live in hope that it will one day be fully accepted.

Terrence Young has always known he is gay. He has constantly lived in fear for what he has no choice over. He has always been treated like a second class citizen by his father and his sister because they believe that he chose to be gay and is only doing it just to make their life more difficult. The government has passed an act called the Deviance Act which means anyone found to be gay could be put to death. When Terrence meets Chase Martinez the attraction is instantaneous and he decides he is sick of living in fear.

It is a sad story and I hate seeing that anyone has to live in fear for who they are and to read about Terrence and how he has had to live and what he has suffered in his life makes me so angry. Alice has done a good job with this subject and this sad story.

Beneath the Sheets (Enigma #6)Beneath the Sheets by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beneath the Sheets is the sixth book in the Enigma series and and as with Beneath the Secrets it could be read as a standalone if you have not had the chance to read the others. As before I would however recommend that you read them all in order so that you get the background and the whole story.

Hugo is still struggling with his inner demons from his tours in Afghanistan. Now however his conscience is reeling with the death of his sister and his unborn nephew. Before thinking thing through he decides to take matters into his own hands but fails. However this one decision means he has made himself and those he loves a target. After running and hiding for the past five years and leaving the one thing he loves more than life itself behind, he finally come to realisation that he can no longer keep hiding. He can no longer run from his past. Upon returning home soon finds out that things have drastically changed. He has missed more than he could have even guessed. Now he knows he has to fight even harder for the ones he loves, for the love of the woman he should have never let go.

But will his fight be enough? Will he be able to show the one he loves just how much he needs her? Will he do everything he can to prove that his love for Ava never died? Will he be able to prove he will never leave again and be by her side forever? He becomes stronger when in her presents, she keeps the demons he fights daily away and calms the raging water inside. Little does he know a revelation will cause even more hold over his heart and a chance to prove himself once and for all. Will Ava once again be able to forgive the mistakes? Will the two ever find their happily ever after?

This story has it all including friendship and romance, happiness and passion, secrets and lies, heartache and frustration but amongst all that there is love. You will find yourself laughing, yet sad and frustrated with the choices of the characters. At times you want to knock some sense into them but as the story goes, you can’t fight fate.

Beneath the Secrets (Enigma #5)Beneath the Secrets by Shandi Boyes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Beneath the Secrets is the fifth book in the Enigma series and it could be read as a standalone if you have had a chance to read the others. I would however recommend that you read them all in order so that you get the background and the whole story.

Hugo is struggling to find a job after returning from a tour in Afghanistan where he is suffering from PTSD amongst other things. He has kept to himself and doesn’t want to talk about it nor deal with it. Hugo’s sister Jorgie is engaged to Hugo’s best friend and has always wanted to see Hugo happy and settled down. Hugo has always had a crush on one girl and that girl is now standing before him. For the first time in six years he sees Ava, not the girl he knew back then that always set his pulse racing but the woman before him has sure changed a lot in that time. With just one flash of her amazing smiles see Hugo trying to impress this new Ava.

Ava had always had a good relationship with Hugo and boy did she ever have a crush on him but that was six years ago, before she was torn away from the town and people she loved. Now they are both back in the same town and Ava thought she had put those feelings to rest. But just one look at Hugo and she knows she is in trouble. It seems Hugo has decided to set his sights on her and she is more than happy to let it happen. Just when it seems like everything is looking good for the two, they are torn apart when tragedy strikes.

Will Hugo’s mistake cost him everything? Will he finally wake up and see what is right in front of him? Will he walk away from the only good thing left in his life? Will Ava be able to forgive the mistakes? Will the two ever have a future together?

This story is bit of an emotional roller coaster ride. At times you will be laughing out loud and the next you will be sobbing. I am now off to read the next installment. Enjoy!!

CL Gaber has written a completely unique, fresh and original story in Ascenders: High School for the Recently Departed. This is a paranormal romance story that will keep you enthralled from the beginning to the end. The characters are well written and their stories will keep you captivated
and invested in them every step of the way upon their journey. This is a story about the afterlife for teenager,s which could possibly give you a glimpse of what that could be like.

Slowly but surely Walker finds herself a part of the Reid clan and in love with Daniel. Change of Heart (Second Chances 1) by Jennifer L. Allen – Review by Jenni Bishop

Change of Heart (Second Chances 1)Change of Heart by Jennifer L. Allen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Change of Heart is the first book in the Second Chances series and it is a lovely read. It is a romantic story but it has its twists and turns and fair share of heartache, that may or may not require tissues.

Casey and Decker have been best friends ever since he walked in and declared they would be at the tender age of six. Unfortunately Casey always had a hard time in high school and that changed things. She always knew she loved Decker but did he feel the same way? The two have been inseparable all their lives, until Casey moves away to college and breaks both their hearts.

Decker knew Casey would be his best friend and he stated as much when he first went to her aid. He may have been six but her knew. When she moved he didn’t know why but three years later she is back and he is determined he will find out. Whilst harbouring his resentment Decker confronts decides it’s time to Casey but one look tells him things are not right. What secrets is Casey hiding?

Can these two reconcile their friendship and return it to what it once was? Will Casey open up to Decker and tell him how she has felt and her reasons for leaving? Will Casey reveal the secrets she is harbouring? Can Decker handle the truth behind the secrets? Could he forgive her if he knew? Can Decker make Casey see what is important in their lives? Will Casey finally let him in and give them a chance of a future?

At times I found myself wanting to shake Casey and her stubbornness but at the same time found myself wanting to hold on to her. Decker is sweet and loving and willing to fight for something he feels he should have fought for three years earlier. I was rooting for Decker the whole way. Jennifer has written a book that was sweet and yet sad, frustrating and yet sometimes funny. You will find yourself falling in love with the characters.

Three guys decide on a getaway to the resort of Oasis to rest, relax and unwind and plain old fun. The guys have no set rules but one look across the airport and they are hoping for a good time.

What happens when three hot girls and three hot guys meet? Fun, sun, shenanigans and possibly love? I loved these characters and their friendships. The bonds between all friends and the teasing and bantering is hilarious. The connections that quickly develop are sweet and the attraction between each couples is sizzling. Favor was surrounded by football all her life. When your father is a big name in the sport and it is in you face 24/7 you either love it or hate it. Favor absolutely detests football and anything to do with football that includes players. As the story unfolds you will quickly learn why and you will understand why. But when a hottie comes on her radar will he be enough to change her mind? He is everything she wants in a guy but can she get past the fact that he is a football player?

Brice is a football player but he definitely is not your typical arrogant player. He is liked by all and is a really decent guy. Brice has had his eye on one Ms Favor Fontaine from afar and after a year he has finally decided to make his move. The trouble is she won’t give him the time of day. All because he plays football, but why? Unfortunately for him she has built walls around her heart and and no one can get past them. Will Brice be the one who can finally break down those walls and show Favor he is more than a football player? Can he show her that he is he one she can trust?

Brice is my man! The romance and relationship between Brice and Favor is beautiful. There are moments when you were laughing at the antics of the group of friends. Times when I wanted to seriously slap some sense into some of the men in this story There is also love and sadness, drama and betrayal. Autumn once again has written a story that you will not want to miss, with enough going on to keep you hooked right to the very end. The characters are well written, well developed and that is one thing Autumn does well. Happy reading…..

Will she do what it takes to keep all those she loves safe? Will the monster of her past finally find her? Will Ally finally lose the battle? Will Jonah be able to keep his beauty safe?

This book is a romantic thriller and I could not get enough. I am a sucker for a SEAL. I love the relationship Jonah has with his brother, they just cracked me up. Jonah is every woman’s dream man. My heart broke for Ally and all she had to endure. Frank and Frannie also made me laugh, you definitely want them on your side in a fight. Susan definitely sent you on an emotional roller coaster ride. This is a gripping story that you will not want to put down.

Always Mine (St. Fleur #2) by A.J. Renee – Review by Jenni Bishop

Always Mine (St. Fleur #2)Always Mine by A.J. Renee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the St, Fleur series and I have been waiting to read this book since I finished the first, Widows Aura. Whilst it can be read as a stand alone I strongly suggest you read them in order to get the full effect and understanding of the characters. Widows Aura left off with Sofia & Noah getting engaged and their story continues in this book.

Lindsey is the sexy librarian who is dating Derek, a sweet man but she can’t shake the unknown feelings and familiarity of Marc the sexy friend of her neighbour, Noah. There is some great chemistry between the two but they have a love hate relationship and they seem to antagonise the hell out of each other without even trying. Lindsey finds herself smack dab in the middle of a love triangle without even trying. Add a stalker to the mix and you have one scared, confused and a once strong woman now fighting to keep her independence and possibly her life.

Marc’s desire for Lindsey is unexplainable yet familiar and once they make the connection he knows why. He has never forgotten the girl from his past his first love. Once he knows the truth he decides he has to have her and will stop at nothing to have her. Marc is ever the perfect man and loves unconditionally all those he cares about. He will also go out of his way to ensure all he loves is kept out of harm’s way. Whilst trying to solve the mystery surrounding the stalker Noah’s past comes crashing back in a way he never saw coming which could leave his relationship with Lindsey in trouble.

Once again AJ has written a story that that pulls you into the lives of each and every character and making you feel like you are with them every step of the way. The story is weaved nicely together with lots of suspense, suspects around the corner, tears, fears, love, laughter and great friendship with lots of hot and steamy romance. I look forward to reading more from AJ in the future and sharing the stories of those to come.

Deadly Perceptions (The Portal Prophecies #5)Deadly Perceptions by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the fourth installment of The Portal Prophecies, Deadly Perceptions. Each book has revealed a little more to the mysteries that surround Willow and her friends and foes and the truly enchanting world she lives in. Through the many trials and tribulations she has had to endure we see Willow becoming stronger and surer of herself in a way that she never has before. C.A has shown that she has a unique knack for writing multiple story lines, whilst at the same time managing to keep you on your toes every step of the way. You are so wrapped up in the story that before you know it, it has come to an end.

At the end of book three we see Willow separated from her friends and those closest to her. Book four picks right up and we see a young girl becoming a young woman whose growth both personal and magical is amazing everyone. Willow is still in the world of the elves and discovers that you can not judge a book by it’s cover. Somethings so beautiful could mean death. Some things lost may become found. Some things thought myths maybe real. Foes could be friends and friends could be foes. It seems that King Cornelius is still up to his tricks but has upped the anti and he is not the only evil threatening to destroy and rule the worlds.

Whilst Willow is stuck on the world of elves we discover, through the help of her friends left behind that there is more behind the goings on and that Willow is and has always been smack bang in the centre of things, time after time. Will Willow be able to finish her journey? Will she discover things once thought lost? Will she be able to find the helps she needs? Will a right choice be the wrong choice?

There are many interesting twists and turns in this fast paced gripping story that has you spellbound. It is one jammed packed fantasy and folklore abound book that you will not want the story to end. I am hanging for the next installment.

Queen of My Heart (Life Won’t Wait, #1) by Nikki Lynn Barrett – Review by Jenni Bishop

Queen of My Heart (Life Won't Wait, #1)Queen of My Heart by Nikki Lynn Barrett
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Queen of my heart is the first book in the Life Won’t Wait series and it is everything you expect in a love story well almost everything!. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I really enjoyed it. It will take you on an emotional journey with these characters that you won’t want to put it down.

Quinn Winters has been modeling and acting since a very young age and now she is so tired of being an actress and wants to try her hand at something new. Something that will take her away from her past and give her a fresh start. Quinn now finds herself in Nashville and about to audition for a record label to pursue a singing career. It should be easy, right?

Tucker McGinnis is labelled as the next King of Country, a country music star. He too wanted to leave is past behind with a fresh start and got his wish after winning a reality singing competition. Life should be good but events from the past still leave him hurting and it is affecting his career. But could that be about to change? When he hears the most beautiful voice, it was love at first sound. When this angel literally runs into him, he offers to take her under his wing to help her achieve her dreams. What he soon realises is that she is exactly what he needs to get his career back on track. Little did Tucker know that he would find her and she would become his life, his love, his everything.

But is everything enough when demons will not die? Is everything enough when you need to put yourself first? Is everything enough when you need to discover who you are? Is everything enough when you are exposed to the world?

This book deals with a lot of different issues and is not your average romance. My heart was aching for what our main characters, Tucker and Quinn had to go through and put up with in the lives. But even though they had experienced so much it made them stronger together. You can’t help but fall in love with each and every single one of them.

Not Enough (Parker Siblings, #1) by Leigh Ann Lunsford – Review by Jenni Bishop

Not Enough (Parker Siblings, #1)Not Enough by Leigh Ann Lunsford
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Leigh Ann Lunsford has written a hit with Not Enough which is the first book in the Parker Siblings Series. There is so much depth and emotions in each of the characters and within this story and the world in which Leigh as woven. In particular the feelings and emotions behind Brielle, the one person who has never felt enough.

I loved Brielle from the very beginning, she is smart, sassy, loving, funny and gorgeous but that is not how she sees herself. It is not how everyone else sees her. All she sees is the girl who is never enough. Not enough for anyone to ever truly love and accept who she is. Not even her parents chose her. Brielle and her siblings were raised by their grandparents because of something that happened in Brielle’s past. Nobody knows her secret except for her best friend Cooper who helped her escape that terrible night. Brielle hides her secrets well enough that her family doesn’t see. That is until one man catches her eye. With him she can’t hide anything and decides that he just might be the man to save her. But in the end will he be the one to truly break her, giving credence to the fact she is not enough?

Colby James needed a change and decided to come to town to start a business with his cousin, Tyler. Since he being in town Colby has been spending time with the Parker siblings, as Tyler is dating Addy. When Colby sets eyes on Brielle he finds himself attracted to her, from just one look he finds himself instantly wanting to protect her, to find out everything about this girl. Colby just melts your heart when she shows Brielle that she is enough, enough for him. But heartache finds it’s way to them and Brielle’s heart is ripped from her and torn to shreds.

This is crazy, funny and loving family that are there for one another no matter what and their antics will keep you wanting more. There is also overwhelming heartache and sadness that will have you sobbing right along with them which made me want to slap the hell out of Colby and hang on to Brielle and never let her go..

Holding Lenny by JoRae Andrews – Review by Jenni Bishop

Holding LennyHolding Lenny by JoRae Andrews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a sweet romance story where the main characters have strong feelings for each other but feel that they can’t act on anything due to the tragic loss of someone special to both of them and how their family and friends may react to them having a relationship.

Josh loves his life as a firefighter and would do anything for anyone and will always go out of his way to save one of his own. He is every woman’s dream. Josh has always loved Lenny but like the good guy he is he took a back seat for his friend. Josh promised his friend he would always protect and care for Lenny. Josh finally decides he can no longer hide his feelings and sit in the background, he wants to be more than the one who hugs her when she is down. These two have some sizzling hot chemistry and everything Josh does for Lenny just makes you fall in love with him a little more. If Josh could just get her to see him in the same light.

Lenny has suffered tragic loss and been through more than anyone her age should have ever had to go through. Lenny loves her job as an EMT and the firehouse she works at where she is surrounded by guys who are her family. Lenny is trying to get on with her life but feelings she is trying to keep in check come rushing back when one of their own is put in harm’s way. Along with that she is confused about the feelings she is having for her best friend Josh.

Will Josh break down Lenny’s walls? Will Lenny decide it’s time to move on? Can Lenny risk their friendship? Will they finally give in and take the next step?

I enjoyed this sweet love story and I always love reading about the camaraderie of everyone that works at the firehouse and the bonds they have with each other. They really are a family that would watch each others backs and would do anything for each other.

Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2) by Ysa Arcangel – Review by Jenni Bishop

Moments of Pain (Moments to Remember #2)Moments of Pain by Ysa Arcangel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Moments of Pain picks up right where Moments of Joy ended and is every bit as compelling and heart wrenching if not more than the first. Moments of Pain continues to share the strong love between Ivo and Brandy and the lengths that someone is prepared to go for the one they love.

Brandy’s illness is progressing at an alarming rate and Ivo, even with all his medical training, is having to sit by helplessly, and witness it all happening before his eyes whilst being powerless to stop it. But he is right there by her side. Brandy is getting less memory lucid and very frustrated and without involving and letting Ivo know she decides to try the medical experimental testing to cure try to find a cure for her Alzheimer’s. She is willing to do all she can so she can have the life, love and family with the man she loves.

When Brandy awakes everyone finds that the treatment has wiped her memory and she has no memory of the man she loves or things that have happened for a number of years. Ivo’s heart is breaking as he realises the woman he loves doesn’t even recognise him. She doesn’t know who is is or what they shared together, so he does the only thing he can do and that is give her the time and space she needs and is he has to he is prepared to let her go..

Whilst Brandy is feeling alone and terrified and struggling and my heart went out to her, I found it incredibly hard to watch/read the struggles Ivo was going through. It was incredibly sad and the emotions I felt for him were overwhelmingly strong. Ysa is such a powerful writer that she can evoke such strong emotions in someone with just one story. It is a brutally honest and raw look into how this disease can destroy lives. It is a beautiful yet heartbreaking story that is full of so much emotional pain, love and passion, fear and ups and downs. You will most certainly need a box of tissues and a stiff drink just to get through it.

Moments of Joy (Moments to Remember #1) by Ysa Arcangel – Review by Jenni Bishop

Moments of Joy (Moments to Remember #1)Moments of Joy by Ysa Arcangel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow this is probably one of the most hardest emotionally wise book that I have read. Ysa has written a beautiful heart wrenching story of love that truly stands the test of and the meaning of “in love an in sickness”. Moments of Joy is the first book in the Moments to Remember series which brings together Brandy Curtis and Ivo Ferrero.

Brandy has lived with a history of Alzheimer’s affecting the women in her family and has always played it safe when it comes to relationships. She has always had hookups, no strings attached and has been truly afraid to live her life with any real emotional bonding. If only she could open herself up to more but she can’t because of this horrible disease that is lurking in the background threatening to take her away. The fear is robbing her of a fulfilling life.

What starts as a holiday fling, a one night stand with a hot and extremely sexy doctor could turn into something more. Ivo Ferrero has never meet anyone like the beautiful woman who wandered onto his life and one night is not enough for him. As hard as she is trying to push him away, he pushes back and the feelings between the two is growing stronger and stronger. She is it for him if only he could break down her walls.

This story will make you laugh and definitely cry. It shows that love can overcome many things if you are willing to open yourself up to more. It also give you a look at how Alzheimer’s affects people’s lives. I like the way we saw the story through both points of view and the beautiful way things developed. This is one powerful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish and makes you want to take the characters into your arms and take it all away.

Waiting to Fall (The Waiting Duet: Book 2) by Alyson Reynolds – Review by Jenni Bishop

Waiting to Fall (The Waiting Duet: Book 2)Waiting to Fall by Alyson Reynolds
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Waiting to Fall follows on from Waiting to Breathe and Olivia and Nate’s story continues in the background of this book. They are still very much in love and going strong which brings a smile to my face whenever Finn sees or hears anything remotely about their sex life.

Finn and Cora are our main characters in this story. As much as they give it to each other and there is always tension between the two, they are best friends. I loved the way they were with each other and could not wait to see what happens between them. Finn is a great friend and brother who is caring, loving, sweet and smart. Oh and did I mention sexy? Finn would do anything for those he cares about. Definitely a boy you would want to take home to mum.

Cora is also a caring, loving, sweet and funny woman who is also there for the ones she loves but she doesn’t see herself that way. What she sees someone who is broken, insecure and damaged. She doesn’t do relationships and when the quiet gets too much she turns to Finn. Finn knows the horrors she endured and has always been there for her.

After Finn and Cora hook up confusion is the name of the game. Taking things just that one step further leaves them both reeling with unsure emotions. Finn is Cora’s best friend, Olivia’s twin brother should they embark on a relationship and things go south where would that leave things? They are both afraid of ruining their friendship and Cora has issues she needs to deal with. Both are stubborn but when they are faced with life and death will they both realise what is important in life? Both are worried how Olivia will take their relationship and don’t want to hurt her but doing so may be enough to keep them apart.

This book is set at the same pace as Waiting to Breathe. It is a great story that will have you holding your breath and breaking your heart but at the same time laughing and enjoying the great connection you have found with these characters.

Widower’s Aura (St. Fleur #1) by A.J. Renee – Review by Jenni Bishop

Widower's Aura (St. Fleur #1)Widower’s Aura by A.J. Renee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sofia has gifts one that allows her to read other people’s aura’s which has helped her on more than one occasion. She left behind a job that was not healthy for her any longer and decided to start a new in a place called St Fleur. Sofia decides to open her own photography business which after two years is doing quite well. Sofia is a loving soul who draws people to her and she is one of the most loved people in her town. With her besties by her side she is content with her lot. Her Besties have her back and she has theirs. Together they are funny and my type of friends that will have you laughing out loud. One night she looks into the face of a stranger, one too hot to trot man she can’t take her eyes off of. Turns out to hot to trot is the one Lindsey one of her besties has been telling her about, the new hot neighbour.

Noah is hot and so oblivious to the affect he has on woman. He finds himself mesmerized by the beautiful woman he first laid eyes on not long after getting to his new hometown and is determined to stay away. But staying away is much harder than he thought when his daughter Lexi throws a spanner into the works.

I loved the alpha men in this story, so possessive and protective of what they perceive as theirs that had me laughing at them and the woman trying to put them in their place. This book was engaging and had me captivated from the start until the finish. It is a lighthearted love story that has a little mystery, suspense and some drama. I loved all the characters but I just loved Lindsey and Mark’s interaction, that always left me with a smile on my face. With the steam coming of Noah and Sofia it was sizzling, the chemistry was just off the charts. There are also times when you find yourself breaking for some of these characters that you want to wrap them in cotton wool. I am certainly hoping to enjoy the second book as much as I have this one. AJ has written a good book and you should certainly be adding it to your book list.

Catching Caroline (Silver Falls Book 1) by Megan Nugen Isbell – Review by Jenni Bishop

Catching Caroline (Silver Falls Book 1)Catching Caroline by Megan Nugen Isbell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caroline has led a sheltered life living in her small town Silver Falls, Vermont. When her boyfriend of many years comes back home after not seeing him for six months, her heart is broken. I definitely wanted to punch him… But it is when an unexpected friend of her brothers, Adam DeLain a Boston Red Sox baseball player, returns to Silver Falls and onto their farm for the summer, that Caroline discovers more than she ever thought possible. At first Adam is his annoying self, the annoying friend of her brothers that she followed around as a little girl and the boy that she has known all her life but after some time she discovers that he is so much more and that he is now one sexy man. Similarly Adam realises that Caroline is no longer the little sister of his best friend, she is no longer a little girl, she is now a sweet and gorgeous woman and enough for him to love. But can he make her realise that?

I enjoyed the story that Megan has weaved and certainly the characters. Catching Caroline is the first book in the series and is a sweet romance story where the main character Caroline Hale has yet to discover the world but also to believe in herself and that she is enough. She has been torn down and thrown away by someone she thought loved her. The sad fact that people can be so cruel is a part of life but having it thrown at you all the time wears away your confidence and lets the self doubt in. I just wanted to take away Caroline’s pain but at times I wanted to slap her for letting others making her feel this way. Her ever present cousin and best friend is there to help pick up the pieces every step of the way and often making you laugh with her antics, out there ways and comments. I think she added just the right amount of comic relief the story needed with her sassy, honest and direct ways. I definitely can not wait for the next installment to this series.
