Planting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga (Yoga for Kids: Lesson Plans for the Teacher Book 1) by Janice Pratt and Lenora Degen was very cool and perfectly laid out. I personally am homeschooling my daughter and found this book to be an amazing resource for us! My daughter is very interested in seeds and gardening so having the “seed” theme made it that much more interesting to her. She loved it. Although we have not made it through the entirety of the book yet, I’ve read it and we have talked about what there is to come and we are excited. The lesson plans are laid out in a very easy to understand way. There are different activities including music, art, the obvious yoga posing and games. But my favorite was the gratitude journal (which I had to help because she doesn’t write yet) and the affirmations. So cute and so fun! Each thing is set up for a group but I found it easily adaptable for just her and I. Neither of us are huge into yoga and as we are beginners, I never felt as if we were behind or I was incapable of teaching the poses. Truly cannot wait to do our next lesson. The resources at the back of the book were very helpful to me. I am overall pleased with this book and think that while it is a great resource for homeschoolers, that it would be great in a classroom setting as well.

What an amazing and helpful guide to teach kids about yoga, healthy habits, and mindfulness! I have two kiddos, ages 8 and 12, and I will say that the author targeted this book perfectly for that audience. We absolutely loved reading through it together and learning about kindness and self-awareness. The activities in the book are perfect for all levels, and we really enjoyed doing them together. I enjoyed the author weaving the thought of plants in comparison to ourselves because sometimes I feel that’s a barrier with teaching kids self-care. When you can relate it to something they can see and understand outside of their own bodies, it helps connect the dots so to speak. I also loved the affirmations included as well! Even if this doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, I implore you to give it a go for the little ones in our life at home or work.

Planting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga is the first book in the Yoga for Kids: Lesson Plans for the Teacher series. It is a resource guide for teachers and parents that teaches children about mindfulness, healthy eating, gratitude, caring, truthfulness, compassion and peace through yoga. The book contains songs, exercises, coloring pages, games, affirmations, links to resources, and pages for teacher’s notes. I loved this book and how it combined yoga with planting seeds both literally and metaphorically. I learned a lot, including that yoga means “union” because it brings together our mind and body and that yoga is good for our minds and our bodies. My favorite chapter was entitled “Planting Seeds of Gratitude and Kindness” which contained ideas and activities for children on how to share what they are grateful for. I loved the idea of a gratitude journal that children can write what they are grateful for in and update every week. I will be telling all my teacher friends about this book so they can possibly implement the ideas into their teaching. A great resource that I highly recommend to parents and teachers!

Even though this book is 85 pages, it’s full of knowledge about planning and kid-friendly which I greatly appreciated. Honestly, it couldn’t come at a better time cause I want to peel and ween my oldest son at 9 away from tablets, YouTube, and his game or being inside all the time. But yes, he and I now both enjoy gardening together to create a better bond. Also, I love, as a Taurs, (Earth sign) grounding myself into the Earth.
To watch and experience things grow in front of your very eyes after laboring over it, you’ll fall in love with its growth and the peace of mind you get from it and your kids will enjoy the process plus never forgetting what they’ve learned with a sense of achievement under their belt. Here’s to that!

A comprehensive step by step guide for teachers about Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga. Filled with details about yoga and how it intertwines with yourself and opening the dialogue to young children. Has not only topics for discussion but activities to do as well. Correlates with gardening and uses seeds as a visual aid.

I thought this was insightful and had facts I was not aware of. I was amazed by the creativity and think this would be a great book for introducing yoga to young ones. Exceptionally done.

This is a great book by authors Janice Pratt and Lenora Degen. This book has so many interesting and informative things in it, i loovvve it. Like song, fun activities for the likes, yoga positions, and lessons on the plants life cycle and how to grow them 🥰. I find that really cool for them to include. It would be a cool project to do with the kiddos.I know my little one has just gotten into trying to do yoga. While he does it we play some daily affirmations.so this book was a fantastic find. I already have a couple things that we’re going to be trying from this book and I can’t wait. I also loved all the affirmations that were given and how the authors gave you a guide on how to make your own personal gratitude journals. I’m definitely about to go get and keep a jar like the one from the 2nd chapter for me and my family tomorrow, along with making those journals. This book is good for all ages. The ebook version is great but I would highly recommend getting the physical copy so you can write in it. I look forward to seeing more from these authors. 🥰

This is a pretty cool lesson planning book for teachers, parents, grandparents, etc that is geared towards those ages 5 to 13 years of age. It’s set up as a 6 week program but could be adapted to last longer. They are fairly simple lessons about engaging the mind, body, and spirit through growing plants, mind activating activities, and yoga poses. There are also recommended daily affirmations.

I found this book to be very informative and interesting!

This is a fantastic resource for parents and teachers alike who may want to introduce yoga to their littles. This is very well written so that any one can understand it (there isn’t a lot of jargon used) and I really like that there are links, worksheets, and spaces for notes available. This is a great 6-week (or it could be longer) guide to introducing yoga to students. I’m also very appreciative of the fact that they give advice for using their lessons for beginners and more advanced students and younger and older students. They also advise on certain activities for smaller or larger groups. This is a really thought out and well planned lesson planning guide on yoga. Great resource!

Planting Seeds: Growing Mindful Children Through Yoga by Janice Pratt and Lenora Degen is aimed at giving parents and teachers some different concepts to engage children and teach them some valuable life skills.
The book ‘plants’ different concepts on using movement, science, nature, and growth to help a child find focus, concentration, mindfulness, compassion, empathy, and breathing better. This is done through Yoga techniques, planting seeds, affirmations, games, moving activities, mindfulness activities, and even songs.
We learn about Yoga principles, Yoga movements, Plant growth, and much more. I think this is a great tool that has a different approach to raising healthy children- body, mind, and spirit.
Well worth the read!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Janice Pratt and Lenora Degen!

It’s a very simple read and you can change each lesson to suit your needs. It is a very resourceful book and gives you ideas for crafts and books to read in relation to the lesson.

I really enjoyed this! I like how the author makes a connection between yoga and plants. Very cool! I loved reading the lesson plans. The author puts ideas for different ages and details everything very well. I could easily picture it all in my head. This shows how to have a 6 week class for kids.

There are great affermations and breathing techniques throughout. Plus games and songs! I am enjoying this as its is giving me all kinds of ideas to do with the grandkids.

My only issue is that I wish they had included pictures of all the different yoga poses they suggest. Some are self explanatory (like the frog) but others like mountain, fish, star and windmill are unknown to me. I have only done a few yoga poses do I will have to look them up.

“Planting Seeds” by Janett Pratt is a great way to help any adult delving into yoga and mindfulness with children. With meticulously structured lesson plans and captivating activities, this book serves as avguide for instilling healthy habits and positive attitudes. Pratt expertly intertwines the metaphor of planting seeds throughout, emphasizing self-care, gratitude, and kindness. The exercises, tailored for children aged 5 to 13, are accessible and thoughtfully crafted, even for novices. Having been part of a study about the impacts of practicing yoga as a middle grade girl, I have seen the profound effects of mindfulness on self-esteem, academic performance, and self-acceptance with this age group. This book provides an invaluable resource for nurturing mindfulness and fostering holistic well-being in young minds.

What a great book and tool for teachers. There are many great things in this book to teach our children, eating healthy, gratitude, lessons about how things grow after planting and so much more. I really liked how with each lesson there are activity pages to match that lesson for the kids to do, and throughout each lesson there are so many references and resources to use to aid in the lesson. This honestly reminds me of when I was in after school care when I was in elementary school and it brought back very fond memories. There are things in this book as and adult now that I have learned, such as,

“A good amount of oxygen we inhale is used by our brains. When we are upset or scared, our breathing becomes short and shallow. Our thinking brain can shut down.”

I never really thought about how our thinking is off when we are scared or upset, which makes sense because everyone always says to “take deep breaths” and the minute you start taking deep breaths you start thinking more clearly. I wish I would have realized or learned that earlier on. Definite recommendation for teachers.

Here within this book are ways to teach yoga and meditation to kids something that Lenora has a passion with. Mindfulness through yoga is not just for kids but for adults alike as it sharpens your focus and strengthens your attention. It also encourages self-esteem and in creating a positive self-image.
Planting Seeds is a 6-week curriculum series that sets about giving the teacher a tool on how to teach kids to become mindful through learning yoga in the classroom. It sets out ideas and themes and plans for lessons and activities.
It is easy to read and looks easy enough to implement. It is devised to be used for kids aged between 4 – 12 years but would be easily adapted for other ages.
It is an original and unique book that would help anyone one looking to do this kind of thing. There is a lot to teach but to also learn from at the same time.
Very clever.

As a homeschooling grandmother, I found this to be an engaging and insightful resource to use with my grandson. For obvious reasons I can’t do yoga anymore but we have used videos to work on it with him. The activities and information in the book really help to get that mindset on the right track to be happy and healthy for an anxious child. We wilol be adding this as a fun activity to our daily curriculum.

Since I can remember, I have been a reader, often having several books going at the same time. If anyone was my teacher, it was the wonderful authors who shared their hearts and souls with me through their stories. My first story was published in 1999. Today I work on stories that talk about the amazing power that children have and the mark they can make on the world. I hope to inspire children to feel their truth and know that they can make a difference.

My yoga partner and I created this Lesson Plans for Teachers” series to help parents, teachers, and homeschool facilitators encourage children of all ages to realize their potential as creative and productive members of our global world.

It is my mission to bring the benefits of yoga to people of all ages. I believe there is a form of yoga for everybody on the planet. Working as a graphic designer for the ” Yoga for Kids- Move, Breathe & Make Life a Breeze” series, I’ve had an opportunity to bring two loves of my life together – yoga and designing!
