I’m a big fan of true crime/ murder mystery novels, so I was very excited to read this book. I love how the author chips away at Lillian’s side of the story. There is a lot of character development as the reader begins to question their initial impressions of Lillian. This is a hard hitting and sometimes difficult read. Be warned, it deals with some graphic subjects in a very detailed way. It is a book that will stay with you for a very long time.

Jarvis Mann is quite the character. Quirky, unique and a personality of his own, he keeps you going right from the beginning. This book was action packed from the start. It jumped right into Jarvis starting with investigation Rocky’s death and going from there. He just takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I couldn’t put the book down. I felt like I was sucked into the universe Jarvis Mann was in. R. Weir has does a really terrific job of bringing everything together.

This is the 8th book in the Jarvis Mann Detective series. Even though it is part of a series it can be read as a standalone. However I think if it is read in order then the characters would all make sense in their connection to each other. This didn’t detract from this book for me in any way though. The author does an amazing job at keeping you hooked on the edge of your seat. With danger and suspense you are on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. I love a crime story and this one has an unsolved mysterious murder and an extremely dangerous element with the gang vibe. The author does an amazing job describing the gang element that you get an understanding about how dangerous that environment is. Even the people who help our detective are dangerous and questionable which makes you wonder how it will work out and if our Dectetive Mann can solve this case without losing his life.

Wow!! The Third Nanny is a truly amazing psychological thriller! This is the first book I’ve read by this author but it will not be my last, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish.
Right from the get go I was hooked, the storyline is intriguing, mysterious, thrilling, detailed and so suspenseful. I was sitting on the edge of my seat until the very end. I had goose bumps the whole time as I could tell things just weren’t as they seemed and I loved how everything unfolded. This was truly a one of a kind read!
If you are looking for an original thriller look no further this is the book for you!!

Houses of Deception, the 6th book in The Madeline Dawkins Series, finds Madeline and Mike teaming up with Russell Barnett. Russell, the antagonist from a previous book in the series, is desperate to find Dylan. With nowhere else to turn, he asks Madeline and Mike for help. What starts out as a missing persons case quickly spirals out of control into a kidnapping, with a demand for ransom.
This novel is awesome. I loved the characters and their development throughout the story. Being the 6th book in the series, I wish I had read the others first, but there is another background information to catch the reader up on what has happened previously. Cynthia Hamilton is an excellent writer, drawing the reader into the story from the first chapter. This one kept me guessing until the end. A great thriller that I couldn’t put down!

The crime/thriller genre is my favorite and now I have a new author on my list. Matthew Huntley has the ability to take me into the mind of a serial killer in this book. This book has all the making of an intense, suspenseful, and crime thriller. The pace of the story was fast but I recommend paying attention to the details. I have to admit that I did reread some sections because I missed the clue but it was well worth it. The characters are complex, fully developed, and intense. The story is about a serial killer that was put into jail, but after some time the killings start up again. Andrew was the officer who put him in jail. He is thinking that he may have been wrong about his suspect. I highly recommend this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.

Houses of Deception is the sixth installment to The Madeline Dawkins series and boy oh boy was it just as good as the others. Ms. Hamilton provides us with so much in this intricate story including plenty of suspense, mystery, danger and more. While all of Ms. Hamiltons books can be read as stand alones I don’t personally recommend it because you’ll miss out on a lot of action. Ms. Hamilton gives us clever characters, mysteries that leave us furiously flipping the pages, and so much suspense that we’re on the edge of our seats. So if you want a good sneaky and clever mystery then I highly recommend Houses of Deception.

Mann in the Crossfire: A Jarvis Mann Hardboiled Detective Mystery Novel by R. Weir is the eighth book in the Jarvis Mann Mystery series. It is probably best to read this series in order so that you get full enjoyment however the book can be read as a stand-alone. I loved that this book really was a fast past, action packed story that felt like w true crime mystery. The author knew just how to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through and constantly guessing as to what might happen. It takes a lot for a series to reach this number of books and based on what I just read I can see this series being fantastic for many more books to come. I hope that we get to see more from this detective as the whole series is just fantastic.

This book was beyond amazing and I have no words to truly the describe the impact it gave upon my soul. It lured me in as if a child after a free toy. From there it bought my mind to its darkest corners and made me visualize and see things I never thought I could reach in limits of my mind. This was a psychological thriller that can not compare to my past readings. I can not describe how much I loved this, and yet, I wanted more at the end. I did not with any ounce of me want this novel to end! It was that good!
Reading at first we get our main character whom was named Janey getting a letter from no where from her sister, who everyone believed was out of the picture. But the letter doesn’t seem to add up and Janey questioned everything and wanted the truth to what happened to her sister and why she disappeared. Why make contact now? When all whom cared of her thought she was gone forever?
Story unravels and her sister was a nanny for a family. So maybe the truth was within those walls/ At least that was the high suspicion Janey had. Could she be correct or never more right? But perhaps it was possible to dig too deep? Are some things left buried?
In those walls, came so much more than Janey ever bargained for. It left me more than convinced, shocked, fearful, and so many emotions. Nothing was what I expected. I never was ale to guess anything. And that is what I loved so much about this book!
The book was a fun puzzle, figure out what happened and case closed right? Wrong! The things Janey learns not only unravels but makes the true fear that creeps in your heart come alive and make you question everything you perhaps thought you knew?
There was clues as well as secrets that were best left undone. Janey showed strength that she loved her sister dearly and only wanted to bring her home and find out her side of the story of basically what went down. But the lines that cross for the truth are more than ever expected, and the suspense it brings alone is more than I think any of the characters or the readers ever saw coming.
Again I loved this book more than words I can every say or express. I live for a book that can make me question things and keep me so involved, to the point where I am up most shocked to how the story plays out. Plus, to add the characters were beyond perfect! The family that had Janey’s sister for the nanny, let me say even I did not put two and two together. The author is extremely skilled and I am still in disbelief how things went about, it was like eating a good banana split, finish that last bite, but again you still year for more!
This was actually my first book by this author. It was so good and I truly regret not knowing more of this author till now! I happily will read all the books this author reads. Needless to say, this first book I have read by them, reached beyond and back of any expectations I might have made. As well as a made a first impression that can never be erased
Thank you to the author for this wonderful book and amazing story you brought to life!

Boy On Hold is my first read by JD Spero and it did not disappoint. Marcella Trout is a single mom raising a young boy, Henry, and a 17 year old, Tyler. Henry witnesses something that no 6 to 7 year old should have to witness, a murder. As the story unfolds to who killed the neighbor, we learn about secrets among family, the power of forgiveness and what is the truth. You will also get into the mind of someone who is struggling with a mental illness. This story definitely held my interest and made me emotional at times. I look forward to reading Boy Released.

Houses of deception is the 6th book in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton, and this series never disappoints. From the very beginning of the book when Maddie and Mike attend a very swanky party of one of their clients, you know it is going to be juicy. Followed up by the reemergence of their old reluctant tutor to investigate the disappearance of his nephew, you know things are never as straight forward as they first seem. This book is really enjoyable, has lots of twists in the tail that are totally unexpected and overall is a really good read. I have read all of the books in this series so far and just enjoy them more and more each time.

Houses Of Deception is book number six in the Madeline Dawkins series by Cynthia Hamilton. This could be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend that this series is read in order. There is so much backstory and history that it is much more enjoyable being read as part of a series.
Madeline and Mike and back solving mysteries, this time they have some missing people to track down and, as you can imagine, it’s never quite as simple as it sounds. I feel as though I know these characters so well now, I really enjoy catching up with them. I love how much thought the author puts into these cases, I’m never quite sure how they will turn out, she really gets you thinking and keeps you on your toes. If you’re new to the Madeline Dawkins series, it’s a series of books that is well worth investing time into.

Madeline and Mike are back in the thick if it again not only having two missing persons case but trying to run a catering business, the plot thickens.
Madeline and Like are now married and still involved in the PI game but when an old rival and mentor asks doe their help how can they refuse. Russell’s nephew has gone missing and he begs the couple to help him find him, so the couple agree and start the investigation.
Although when they get a call from a friend also asking them to fine his missing wife, MDPI is on the case and uncovers more than the bargained for. With the usual twists and turns can Madeline and Mike find Dylan and his girlfriend aswell as Tara Richardson in time.
I have read all this series and this book does not disappoint, it it full of the twists and turns which I have come to expect from Cynthia. I love the relationship between Madeline and Mike and especially six books in this relationship has grown with each book. The story breaks into essentially three stories in the end and with the secondary characters weaving through the story it makes a enthralling read.
Although this can be read as a stand alone story, there are some references to other stories in this series and it would be great to see where this couple have come from. As always I can’t wait for the next adventure with these two great characters.

The Third Nanny by Michele Pariza Wacek quickly grabbed my attention. Thrillers are one of my favorite genres, and I always feel like I am quick to catch on and figure them out. I thought I had this figured out a few times, and I was wrong every time. The Third Nanny kept me hooked and intrigued the entire time. I stayed up way too late because I couldn’t put it down. It was definitely surprising, and that end, you’ll never guess. So, Does Janey find out what happened to her sister Kelly? I highly recommend you read The Third Nanny to find out.

Houses of Deception The Madeline Dawkins Series Book 6 By Cynthia Hamilton ☆☆☆☆☆ This is a full length Mystery Crime story. Read as Madeline and Mike weave themselves into this book. Two 20 something adults disappear without a trace. Dylan’s father lost his life in the last story, saving Madeline. Now Dylan has gone missing along with his girlfriend. It is up to Madeline and Mike to find them, along with another case that could be linked, or are they? I suggest you read the other 5 books in this growing series, to get to know how Madeline and Mike work.
Cynthia Hamilton has kept this series on track, a fast track that is. As usual she catches your interest on page one and believe me when I say, you are caught up in this story. I love her lead characters! Madeline and Mike keep this roller coaster series going. Many avenues will be traveled, but only the right one will bring this story to an end. As a first-time reader of R. Weir’s Jarvis Mann Detective Series, I was very please with this book. I enjoyed that I did not have to read the previous books to understand what was going on, but I will for sure be reading the other books in the series. R. Weir did not fail to deliver an outstanding tale and this book, an action-packed thriller, suspense filled, intrigued crime story is what he did best. The twists and turns that are found in the plot, kept me on the edge of my seat, that I just couldn’t put it down to find out what was going to happen next, am amazing and definite page turner until the very end. I will continue to read and follow this series. I was totally invested in this book. Totally awesome and amazing read!
The ending has you wondering if Jarvis is going to be hanging up his detective gloves…

This is the 6th entry in the Madeline Dawson series. We continue to follow Madeline and Mike on another adventure as they solve another mystery. Running two very different companies, party planner and investigating company. Author Cynthia Hamilton continues the lives of these characters with style. Always good to read about them as by now they feel like friends, we continue to cheer them on.

Houses of Deception was a really good book! Each story I think keeps getting better and better. Madeline Dawkins has led (and continues to lead) a very interesting life and ways prevails against all odds. This is a thrilling crime and sleuth series that is definitely worth the time of reading it. This book was no less disappointing at all. I love how Hamilton is able to capture your attention from the first page and hold it until the very end. I definitely recommend this book and this series.

The Third Nanny by Michele PW was a wonderful psychological thriller. We begin with Janey who receives an apology package from the post filled with a shredded letter. Upon puzzling the pieces of this letter together, she discovers it is a letter from her sister, Kelly, who ran away 8 years prior. Through internet sleuthing, she discovers her sister is now Ashley and was a nanny in Redemption, Wisconsin. That is, until she disappeared! Janey decides to continue her investigation to find her sister by becoming a nanny to the same family. She soon realizes that there are secrets within the household. The story was good, with a mix of present and past to bring the twist of the ending into play. Some sections of the book were longwinded and I would have liked the ending to be explained a bit more, but overall the end was not what I expected and left the me reflecting on what I read throughout the story to see the hints to the twist.

This is the 6th book in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series, but the first that I have read. This book stood alone just great, but find myself wanting to go back and read the series from the beginning to get to know all the characters better. Madeline runs a catering company and also runs a detective agency with her husband Mike. They are hit with two separate missing person cases at the same time. Madeline feels obligated to take the first as the person missing is Dylan, the son of the man who died saving Madeline. They soon find out it isn’t just Dylan but also his girlfriend. Disappearing without a trace, they start talking to everyone linked to them to find out exactly when the last time they were seen or heard from. The second case involves a woman from a catering event that Madeline had hosted the night before. The intrigue kept me turning the pages. Kidnapping and a ransom note. Mike and Madeline are in over their heads, but the local police also have their hands full and can’t get there in a reasonable amount of time. Can they figure out what to do or where to look? I enjoyed Madeline and Mike, how well they worked together. Madeline gets very personally involved and feels genuine. Mike encourages her to go with her gut feelings. I had a great time working the case with them, looking forward to reading more books in this series.

I absolutely LOVE this series. MDPI tackles not one, but TWO, missing persons cases. Lots of intrigue and twists and turns. I adore the main characters, Madeline & Mike, and the supporting characters as well. They are Private Investigators but are so caring in their handling of clients. They are also extremely intelligent and think outside the box, which makes the story so much more interesting. Good books have characters with great depth and this series has that and more!

It’s hard to believe that six books into a series I am as invested as I was in the first book but each one is better than the last! Houses of Deception is the sixth book in Cynthia Hamilton’s Madeline Dawkins series and while it is the sixth book I’ve read, I believe it would read just fine as a stand alone. I really enjoy Cynthia Hamilton’s writing style, she grabs my attention immediately with attention to detail and never fails to keep my attention throughout. I have loved Madeline since the begin and that hasn’t changed, which means a lot to me because while I love a strong female main character, there aren’t too many I can say I connected with. I loved this book and couldn’t recommend this series more. I would give Houses of Deception 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a thought provoking and at times difficult read as the author deals with mature subject matters and very sensitive issues, however these are dealt with honestly and in terms of the storyline. These could be triggers for some readers, and the author does recognise this with a warning and also by giving information on places people can get help from at the end of the novel which I thought was a lovely touch. The storyline is very original and intriguing, it follows true crime author Allison McKinnon who has been given the opportunity to write about the previously untold story of convicted double murderer, Lillian Ross.
Lillian Ross is a woman who was born into a wealthy family but has ended up on Death Row sentenced to death for murder. For years she has kept her silence but has now chosen Allison to be the one to write her story. The more time the women spend together and the deeper Allison gets into Lillian’s past memories they realise they have more in common than expected, including having both suffered from traumatic events in their pasts. As Allison discovers Lillians troubled past and learns the shocking truths that explain her motives for the murders she committed, Allison begins to wonder if her own life with a similar past will lead her to the same inevitable conclusion as Lillian’s.
Although this is not an easy read and some of the more graphic parts were very difficult and upsetting to read, I also found myself gripped by the storyline and fully immersed in Allison and Lillian’s stories. The book being written from both women’s point of views gave me as the reader great insight into both characters. The wonderful characters made me feel engaged with them and I felt sympathy for both of them as their past traumas were uncovered. I liked and felt the connection between Allison and Lillian and how a friendship bond was formed through these prison visits. The authors descriptive narrative bought the prison setting in particular to life and made me feel claustrophobic at times. The conclusion is harrowing but expected, and I was left thinking about this book and the characters long after I had read the last page and put the book down. I recommend this real page turner of a novel but advise potential readers to be aware of the trigger warnings.

This book is intense! I was completely ensnared from the time I started reading until I finished it. The way she told the story kept me completely fixated on what was coming next. She made me feel for Lillian and Allison both. They were different from each other and yet able to build a relationship through their similarities and even more through their differences. The other characters were memorable too, and made it easy to remember who they were and how they were a part of the story. There was this theme of self-love and survival and I loved how they were able to move forward in the way they chose and move past the hell they had lived through.

This was a powerful and heart wrenching page turner for myself. Although I had to take breaks in a few places, due to the detailed descriptions and horrific story, this was a story that I couldn’t stop reading. The adult topics discussed are very real and painful. Van Schaik portrayed these sensitive topics so well, it felt as though it was a true story being replayed. I really enjoyed this book, but I know some readers are much more sensitive to the intense topics and details covered within the story, so please remain cautious if you choose to read.

I haven’t read a new book from this series for a while so I was really excited to see this one and I couldn’t wait to get started. As I expected I was pulled straight into Madeline and Mike’s lives again and into the action that has never wavered over this series at all. I was completely glued to this story and loved trying to work out what was going to happen. Whilst in this book the storyline switches between two disappearances I wasn’t confused at all, I could tell the author had taken her time in planning so as to not confuse the reader – it was very well written! I think this could be read independently from the series but as I have read most if not all of it, I would highly recommend starting from the beginning! I’m definitely looking forward to book 7!!

‘The Murders of Lillian Ross’ by Sirena Van Schaik tells the story of true crime author Allison McKinnon and the web of lies and deception she begins to unravel when given the unprecedented opportunity to write about the mysterious events surrounding the murders committed by Lillian Ross, who has been mum about the deaths until now. If you are faint of heart then this book isn’t for you- it delves into dark and gritty themes and is a visceral encapsulation of the many shades that abuse and violence can take. But that’s not to say that this is a bad thing- quite ironically what might drive readers away from the book is what makes it so great. Van Schaik doesn’t shy away from the horrors of physical, mental and sexual violence and the sombre reality of homelessness, powerlessness, rigid gender roles and our misogynistic society and political structures through her vivid descriptions and exploration into the everlasting and ruining consequences that can flow from such things. The story allows readers to gain perspectives they may not have considered before or may relate to readers who have been in the situations depicted. This examination of confronting subject matter, while provocative and intense, is never exploitative and is levelled with a layer of respect and consideration for anyone who may have undergone similar experiences.
The structure and format adopted by ‘The Murders of Lillian Ross’ is undeniably one of its major strengths. With every chapter opening with a piece of evidence from the murder case and the subsequent trial, Van Schaik gives the audience the tools to piece together what really occurred the night the killings took place and to make inferences in relation to the various players. Through the way that these documents are laid out and written, it is evident that thorough research has been done to give the feel that you are actually reading real police documents or witness testimonies- adding yet another tier of realism to an already authentic story. Furthermore, the book makes expert use of dual timelines and the narrative flows from third person perspective to first person and back again throughout to provide for a deeper insight into the characters and their feelings at certain moments and to give greater context to the characters’ actions and demeanour in the present.
The highlight of ‘The Murders of Lillian Ross’ by far, however, are the rich and fleshed-out characters that Van Schaik has moulded with a finely-tuned chisel and an adept, steady hand. On their own, Allison McKinnon, our resident gutsy and brave true crime author of a protagonist, is a treat to read about and Lillian Ross is a sympathetic, strong and compelling woman whose past is riddled with hardship and anguish. It is their interactions together, however, that really spark the book’s magic. One incarcerated and the other with all the freedom afforded to her, and yet Van Schaik manages to bridge this dichotomy and craft the two women to serve as mirror images of each other- as two sides of the same coin- with how their experiences coincide and intersect. Lillian’s pain and Allison’s ache both leap off the page and cut you to the core when their backgrounds are slowly unearthed with each word read. The book truly is a study that brushes on the universal experiences of women and the frameworks designed to facilitate such occurrences.
Overall, ‘The Murders of Lillian Ross’ is a profound scrutiny of the upper echelons of society and is a gripping story from start to finish that will leave you wanting more.

Matthew Huntley’s Azrael is his debut book and I was excited to see what this new author had to offer. Let me tell you I was pleasantly surprised. Matt gives us a raw and unbridled look at a serial killer. With complex characters and enough twists and turns to put a roller coaster to shame. Matt has created a world of murder and mayhem and of things that goes bump in the night. It looks at those that bring them to justice and how easy it is to become so entrenched in catching a killer.
Levi Andrews gave his heart and soul to catch a killer and it left very real scars on his psyche. When a string of new string of murders start to occur will he be able to help out or will he keep his own sanity and stay clear of it all? His calling after all is to keep the world safe………
