Dangerous Ground: Tina and Chase’s Story (Under Ground Book 5) by Alice Rachel – Review by Erica Fish

Dangerous Ground: Tina and Chase's StoryDangerous Ground: Tina and Chase’s Story by Alice Rachel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Dangerous Ground is part of the Under Ground series. It is the fifth book and should be read after books one through four. This book goes a little deeper into Tina and Chase’s story. The way Alice Rachel writes reminds me of a music composer. She starts with an introduction which is the same for all the books so far. The read is slow and steady, and comforting because it is familiar to the series. The main body is an “allegro” or a brisk walk. Tina and Chase’s story is like the allegro because Tina grew up in an affluent house. There was not a need for anything. Whereas Chase did not, he grew up in the poor community. When Tina and Chase get together they are going at the “allegro” pace. This means that the story is moving at a good pace and I could not wait to turn the page. All of the nitty gritty takes place here. This where the trigger points may happen: depression, suicidal thoughts, and alcoholism are talk about so if you are sensitive to these triggers you are aware that it is here where those take place. Then the “andante” or slow walking pace movement takes us to the end of the story. This is where the action slows down but still at a nice pace and you can see where Alice Rachel is going with this installment of the Under Ground Series.

Dangerous Ground: Tina And Chase’s Story by Alice Rachel, Underground Series

5-stars

This was a tragic, romantic, realistic novel. I could not put this book down. I do recommend that the reader read the other books in the series since it can be confusing at times. So much happened in this novel with both Chase and Tina. At times I was cringing while reading because of the violence taking place but I could not put it down. The scenarios in this novel seem so realistic and I could see things like this possibly trying to happen. I loved both the main characters personalities. I found both to be strong and courageous in their own ways. Chase’s character was my favorite. I couldn’t believe how much heartache he went through at the start of the book. It would have broken me but somehow, he managed to just barely hang on. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Dangerous ground is Tina and Chase’s story written by Alice Rachel and I really enjoyed this story even if it was a little long. I simple love her work. We have read about Chase in a few other stories in this series and It was great to see him as a child and grow up to the man he is. She has this unique way of telling her story that has you stepping into her world and the characters are well developed.
Chase Martinez has a lot to fear with the Sterilization Law threatening the entire lower class. Those around him are rising and rioting for their rights, but protecting his girlfriend is Chase’s only goal.
But what can one man do against an entire government seeking to crush everyone he has ever cared about?
Tina Davie is the daughter of a state officer that comes with many advantages for. But when she crosses the path of Chase Martinez, Tina realizes how unfair the world can be. And when Chase’s life is shattered beyond repair, Tina decides to take matters into her own hands. She will infiltrate the system and tear it apart if it’s the last thing she does.
I highly recommend this story/series and you need to read them in-order to get the full effect of the series… I just simply love these characters and story line.. I can’t get enough of this series

This is by far my favourite story from this series! I have enjoyed the other ones but I was completely absorbed and captivated by Chase and Tina’s story. I think it is really important that you take the authors advice because this book definitely is not a standalone so much has gone on in this series that builds up to this book and I think it is needed to fully understand what is going on. There is so much going on in this story that is very frightening feeling like reality. The author has done an amazing job with this story. She created a storyline I was consumed by and characters I absolutely adored! If you have read any of the books in this series previously then you will not be disappointed in this one. Dangerous Ground is a fantastic story that I HIGHLY recommend!

Dangerous Ground: Tina and Chase’s Story by Alice Rachel, these stories of full imagination that you think when reading them that actually this could be reality someday.

Dangerous ground follows Tina and Chase’s story of the struggles they have in this world of segregation and rules. This is the kind of story has thought provoking parallels to the real world you live in and what would happen to society if just some of the rules applied, it would be horrendous but these characters live through these and seem to find happiness in the smallest places.

This series is well written and as the author said with in the blurb I would recommending reading these books in order, although the story its self can be read as a stand alone their are elements in each book which draws you deeper into this terrifying world and opens up each character to reveal more about themselves the more you read through series.

I really enjoy the writing and the depth of realism that these stories create, the true thought provoking topics have you questioning the reasons and laws that have been introduced. I recommend this series to anyone who love a well written story with a twist of the what ifs.

In a world of uncertainty, we can be certain that Alice Rachel will bring us another story in her Under Ground series that makes us want to change our negative behavior and keep on being positive.

Chase and Tina live different lives, one is upper class while the other lower class. However, they are still people and they both care about others. This story takes us through their struggles and with Rachel’s writing style it feels like we are right there with them.

This story is a part of a series that must be read in order. I know this for a fact as I read some of this series out of order and had quite the headache, lol, trying to figure everything out. Reading in order makes so much more sense! I look forward to reading the next in this series.

Dangerous Ground: Tina and Chase’s story by Alice Rachel is the fifth book in the Under Ground series. This series really must be in read in order to understand the story line.
As I have come to expect from this author this book hooked me in right from the start. I always live delving back into this world as the characters as interesting, the story line is interesting and each book just seems to get better and better. With each book I feel even more as if I am part of the world. The writing style just makes you feel like you are there with the characters experiencing that they do.
The story was just as good riveting as the rest of the series. I cannot wait to read the next book.

DANGEROUS GROUND: Tina and Chase’s Story (Under Ground Book 5) by Alice Rachel is a set in the future in a Dystopian society. This book should not be read without having read the series. I have read the series and this would have had me completely lost without having read the other books and novellas. I did like that the author put a quick chart at the beginning to help me get re-orientated with characters. The focuses on Tina, who is part of the upper class. She is great because as she learns more about her society she starts to act to help those who are being harmed. Chase is part of the lower class and trying to fight to help his girlfriend and others who are dealing with the struggles and acts being done to them. The characters are amazing. I just kept flipping through wanting to know what would happen next. There are some parts that are really tough to read because of the subject matter but was worth it to stay in the story. This is definitely not for an immature person but someone who can filter and process the story.
I have enjoyed this series and like that the characters are all part of each book but that each book focuses on certain characters who have a big part at that time. This gives lots of different perspectives. Pick up the series you won’t be disappointed.

Dangerous ground was a thrilling and emotional rollercoaster of a 5 star read. This is Tina and Chase’s story and I loved it. Once I started I didn’t want to stop.

When the sterilization law goes in effect things start to take a twist.
Chase and his family is what society deems as low class. There were some scenes that just broke my heart for Chase. Who are these people that think they can make these kind of choices for people no matter what class they are?

Tina witnesses some things that happen to Chase and is determined to make changes.
There is so much going on in this read, your head will be spinning. There is quite a bit of darkness also.

Alice Rachel does a great job with her writing you feel everything the characters do. My emotions were all over the place with the laws and regulations. I have to admit that some things were difficult for me to read because of some of the issues. Beware that there may be some scenes that can cause triggers for some. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. I had some I didn’t care for and others I loved. The ending has left me wanting more. You will be done before you know it. If you’re looking for a great series, I suggest 1-clicking and get reading.

Dangerous Ground is a part of the Underground Series written by Alice Rachel and should be read before Breaking Ground. This is Tina and Chases story. There is a trigger warning at the beginning of the story warning those who may not be able to handle certain situations. With that being said I thought it was a great story with intense emotions and characters. There are a few pages to help you get reacquainted with characters, places, etc. Dangerous Grounds story is told like all the others in the series with strong characters, strong emotions and strong storylines.

I know that the author clearly states in the blurb to not read this book as a standalone, but I know that some people don’t read those warnings seriously sometimes. So with the risk of sounding like a broken record, DO NOT READ THIS BOOK WITHOUT READING THE OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES IN THE RECCOMENDED READING ORDER! I can 100% promise you that you will be lost as all get out, and this is not one you want to miss. If you like the Handmaids Tale, dystopian novels, or movies that are scarily close to the reality that we are currently living in, this is the series for you to pick up now. Go one-click right now the whole thing because I can promise you that once you start you won’t be able to stop and will want to devour this entire series as fast as you can.

Alice Rachel really has the gift when it comes to writing with feeling. I always find myself thinking, often aloud, and feeling the characters feelings as if they were my own. Unfortunately, this series happens to touch very close to home. Underground is set in a society that is one we just don’t want to see for ourselves. Separated races, social classes, genders, and so much more. Laws and regulations that affect our bodies as women etc. Sounds a bit close to home doesn’t it though? Kind of like the current political atmosphere we are living in. Really makes you think. Dangerous Ground is the story of Tina and Chase and the way they deal with the difficulties they face every day. I am always more blown away with each book than I was with the last, a hard task to accomplish so I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in the series! Thanks for another great read Alice Rachel!

This book is a heartbreaking and sad story. The emotional pain in this book got me right in the feels many, many times and I was on the verge of tears. The Sterilization Law is going into effect and Chase, is worried, not only for himself, but for his girlfriend, Mariana. The Sterilization Law is exactly what it sounds like it is, and is just as terrible as it sounds like it is. Chase is determined to do everything in his power to protect her, and he is finding out, that it might not be enough.
Tina, is the privileged daughter of the state officer. She has been in the lap of luxury for all of her life, but when she meets Chase and the Sterilization Law is passed, she is called into action. How can the government force the people into the sterilization? Tina goes undercover, so to speak, to tear the system apart.
You will cry. This book contains many sensitive subjects such as suicidal idealism and alcoholism. If you are tender hearted, this book may not be for you, for the others, this book was an emotional read, but a great one!

Dangerous Ground by Alice Rachel a five-star read you need to devour. This is Tina and Chase’s story, the fifth story in the Under Ground series and what a story they have, and what a series, do yourself a favour and read them all as they build on each other and you get little details that will make it a much deeper read. The whole series has been great but this one just tugged that much harder on my heart strings. The whole set us of the class systems, the food shortage and way of life just seemed that much realer in this one, I just seemed to absorb this book so much better.

Dangerous Ground: Tina and Chase’s Story by Alice Rachel is the seventh instalment in her Under Ground series ( know it is a bit difficult to get it straight what story comes when and you really should check out the Recommended Reading Order to get it right). It is NOT a standalone and the author states it as well so be warned, you will be so incredible lost if you do try to start with this one … I feel for you …
This story AND the whole series, it is scary how much our reality reflects the fiction or is it actually vice versa? “Numbers clearly show that the lower class as a whole consumes fewer resources in year than the upper class in five months.” Doesn’t is sound familiar? And there is so much more in this story where you suddenly find yourself thinking, what is reality and what is fiction …
This story has so many layers, it tells as the story of many, it gives us context to many events in the lives of the characters we have met before … I have always struggled really hard when reading this series … especially now when seeing how the world around us is growing darker and darker … at times I think that I cannot continue reading, it is too much but … I go back, again and again, every time a new instalment comes out … Thank you Alice Rachel for putting our anguish into words and giving us an illusion of that it is only fiction, giving us hope that if there are the ones fighting for others in her stories that there are also the ones out here … I am a bit apprehensive while waiting for Breaking Ground … what does the writer have in store for us?

DANGEROUS GROUND: Tina and Chase’s Story (Under Ground Book 5) by Alice Rachel is a heartbreaking and sad read. There is so much pain and tragedy, hopelessness and despair in this story that will have your emotions running wild and lots and lots of heart sobbing tears. Even though it is a heavy hearted story, there are small moments where there is love and hope. Some characters you will love, others not so much, I would even go as far as saying I hated them and what they stood for. It is a well written story and all I can say is, what an emotional journey it was to go through and get caught up in, everything our main characters, Chase and Tina go through.

“When Chase was done drowning himself in flesh and numbing his pain with fleeting pleasure, agony came right back to slap him in the face. The reprieve was always temporary and shallow, forcing him to seek more relief as soon as it was over, knowing quite well the respite would never last.”

Dangerous Ground is the latest instalment in the Under Ground series by Alice Rachel. It is a Dystopian story where social classes and draconian laws are in force and where food shortages, sickness, and danger are an ever-growing problem. This is Chase and Tina’s story- and it shook me and left me reeling. The story is absolutely heartbreaking in places- this book is so much heavier and more intense than the other books in the series and I was left feeling wrung out afterwards. It’s so full of emotion- with loss, grief, substance abuse, survival, and depression playing a large part of the story. But there’s also action, drama and suspense woven through the storyline. Because of the content of the storyline, I wouldn’t recommend this to younger readers, it’s definitely one for 17/18 years and older.
This is a full length novel with lots of interconnected details, characters and information. It is definitely NOT a standalone and should be read as part of the series. Once again Alice Rachel has produced a wonderfully described and vividly detailed story that takes us on a raw, gritty and riveting ride. This book is a little different from the others- having already mentioned the more mature content and the ‘heavier’ storyline, but this story has so many chapters, a lot of which are very quick- but there are so many short scenes, much like flashes of information that we get along the way in this story, which builds a much bigger picture than what I had been expecting.
I am still thinking about the story, about what happened and how it made me feel, long after finishing reading it!
That ending made me sit up and take notice, that’s for sure! I am both excited to see what the next instalment has in store for us (and the Character), and also a little sad- because it will be the conclusion to this fantastic series!

Another great addition to the series, thank you Alice Rachel!

As the author advises in the blurb… This is not a stand-alone. Do not read this before reading the series in the suggested order. Seriously, don’t do it. Even with the glossary at the beginning of the book it took me a few pages to settle in for the ride that is DANGEROUS GROUND.

What a ride this series is.

Holy moly, Dangerous Ground was a powerful story. I really had to sit with this story before writing this review because my emotions where a bit all over the place.

“Numbers clearly show that the lower class as a whole consumes fewer resources in year than the upper class in five months.”

“… I believe the law should forbid them from tying the knot as well. Without children, there is no point in matrimony anyway.”

Chilling words that are set in a fictional time and yet it appears not so fictional when set on the backdrop of November 2018 America.

There are many layers to this epic story. Reading this story as each character goes through changes and growth is breath taking and heart breaking and an emotional rollercoaster.

The characters and layers to the story are so written visually that I didn’t want to put the story down because it is like a movie playing in my mind.

I’m truly not sure if I could sit here and say this is my favorite of the series but I will say that is was the most… It was the most… It just WAS. I really can’t put in to words what it is about this story that just grabbed me, shook me up and put me back down. I feel like I left a teeny piece of me back on the pages. Perhaps I will get it back as the series concludes .

I would recommend it my niece when she is old enough to read the series as a whole.

The story DANGEROUS GROUND: Tina and Chase’s Story (Under Ground Book 5) by Alice Rachel is a book I truly enjoyed reading. It is a story that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished the last page. I just had to know how everything works out. The book has times when I was turning pages to find out what happens next in the storyline and to the characters. I loved reading about Chase and Tina. Chase is a man that is part of what is called the lower class and with that comes a lot of difficulties in his life. The biggest one is when the Sterilization Law goes into effect. He is concerned for himself, however, more so for his girlfriend Mariana. Chase is a character that I felt empathy for with the situations that he found himself in. The raw emotions that I felt when reading about him had me either angry or with tears in my eyes. He is someone what you would like to put your arms around and comfort. Tina starts out with one point of view on life and as the story progresses she begins to change and see things differently. The world that Chase and Tina live in is one where there is always prejudice and class stereotypes. I found myself angry at the cruel treatment that some received while others had life easy. Tina and Chase interact with other characters in the story and I enjoyed reading about them. The story does discuss and contain issues that may be triggers for some and the story would be recommended for a mature audience. I found this book to be wonderfully written that includes some amazing characters. Highly recommended.

I love this book! This is part of the Under Ground series. One of my favorite things about this series is how all the characters are connected one way or the other. We get to see them again in their own separate books. My other favorite thing is the characters. They really do make this series flow and there is such a mixture of personalities. This story takes place during a time when status or class is the way of things are. I highly recommend checking out this book!

Shifting Ground: A Short Story Collection by Alice Rachel is a collection of short stories about the characters in her Underground series. Each of the stories are connected in one way or another. I love this because we get to see each character on their own and then they pop back up later in one of the other books. Each of the characters have a struggle of some type that makes them unacceptable to the public. The setting with these characters are such that there is a division of poor and rich. They are all connectable and take me on an emotional roller coaster ride that make me laugh and sometimes make me feel compassion for them. This is a must read book and I would suggest reading the previous books in this series. I highly recommend this book. Find out what happens to each of these 12 characters.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shifting Ground: A Short Story Collection by Alice Rachel is a book of twelve romance stories that fit into the Under Ground series. I recommend reading the series in order and the author has listed how each of these short stories fit into the series of novels. The stories are great additions to the series and include the main and secondary characters. Everything is well written and even though the setting is dystopian there is hope in the stories. I will be looking for more from Alice Rachel in the future since I enjoy her storytelling and writing.

Shifting Ground, Under Ground Series by Alice Rachel – Review by Jenni Bishop

Shifting Ground: A Short Story CollectionShifting Ground: A Short Story Collection by Alice Rachel
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shifting Ground is the collection of short stories by Alice Rachel from her Under Ground series. The concept allows us a look at the characters from the series and the lives they lead. Alice writes with so much passion as we see the everyday struggles and horrible times.

There are twelve different stories that make up this anthology and the journey is not always happy. Some will pull on your heartstrings and others will make you angry and want to smack someone but there are those that will put smile on your face.

I love the fact that the proceeds of this book go to such a good cause, The Ally Coalition (an LGBT association helping LGBT+ youth in need)

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel – Review by Jana Teppih

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor's StoryCommon Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel is part of her Underground series and you should really read them in an order. I know, it might be a bit confusing having had read the main first book and then reading the novella but in some ways it makes total sense! All these novellas/short stories that Alice is gracing us with give deeper insight into her dystopian world and helps you to understand some of the characters’ motivation and background better.
As the title says, this is the story of Kayla and Taylor who we know are leaders of the Resistance from reading the first book. I loved to learn about how they first met and how they built the trust between them and how experience of loss cemented their relationship further. Apart from Kayla and Taylor we learn more also about other characters we have come across the series …
This novella is another amazing example of the chilling world that the writer has created, it leaves us feeling disturbed especially considering the political environment we are living in! I was telling to a stranger today about the-forced-sterilization-of-lower-classes-law and permission-to-kill-the-homosexuals-at-sight law and she was blown away … is that the future awaiting for us? Keep writing Ms Rachel!

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor's StoryCommon Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Common Ground: Kayla and Taylor’s Story by Alice Rachel is part of her Underground series. This is a series that can be read as a standalone but you will get to see characters from other books in this series in each story. One of the things I love most about this author is that she creates stories that are in different perspectives of the characters. I love how she can pull me into this underground world of different laws and where status makes a difference. Her characters are creative, connectable and true to life. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions from laughter to anger. In this installment of her Underground series is Kayla and Taylor’s story. Taylor and Kayla are neighbors that never expected to fall for each other. Taylor’s life is all that easy for him. His sister is about to get married. Kayla has not had the best of relationships in the past, she was determined to not fall in love with Taylor. She was done putting up with men’s stuff but when other forces step in will she have more to be concerned about then falling in love? Then you have Karen, Taylor’s sister who doesn’t want to get married to the man her father chose for her. Her problem is that she is more attracted to women then men. What will happen when her fiance is determined to marry her no matter what? There is three stories going on in one with this book. They are all linked together in one or another and each of their lives have other forces that could change them. These are some strong characters, they are feisty and they are not afraid to break rules. They bring attraction, passion and heat to this story. I loved that we get to see what their lives where life before we met them in other books. They will pull at your heart strings but you won’t want to put this story down. I couldn’t put this book down and read from beginning to end in one sitting. I highly recommend this book as I know you will want to see what Taylor and Kayla’s story is. You don’t want to miss this one!
