HEELS OF FORTUNE: PJ Santini Series: Book Two by Lynne Russell – Review by Angela Hayes

Heels Of Fortune (PJ Santini Series Book 2)Heels Of Fortune by Lynne Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heels of Fortune is the second book in the PJ Santini Series by Lynne Russell. It is a great second instalment and continues the adventures of PJ Santini. It’s a private eye mystery with a fast pace, danger, suspense, and that somewhat sarcastic sense of humour I loved from the first book.
We met PJ Santini in the first book Hell On Heels- she’s a smart, independent, witty, stubborn, and inquisitive television news reporter who moonlights as a private eye. We follow her on her latest investigation as she uncovers some shocking details about her late husband- which brings much danger and threatens her life.
As with the first book, there were edge of my seat moments, as well as some seriously funny scenes. I can’t wait to see what PJ gets up to next!
A fun read!

Thank you, Ms. Russell!

Temptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford – Review by Angela Hayes

Temptation and SeductionTemptation and Seduction by L.M. Mountford
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Temptation and Seduction by L.M Mountford is a collection of 6 short stories that range from friends to lovers, a mafia princess’ adventures, a paranormal college romp, a taboo/forbidden story, and tales of temptation.
This is a very quick and easy read and I think because of the type of story this is and the fact that each ‘book’ in the collection is so short, it’s one you can enjoy when your reading time is limited because you can easily read one or more of the ‘books’ in under an hour, so you can pick it up and put it down, without feeling like you are left hanging.
I really wanted to like this book so much more than I did. But there isn’t a lot of depth, or character development to the storyline- because they are so short. I would have much preferred to read them as ‘full-length’ novels instead. But if you like your stories with less depth and more titillating and ribald content, then this is the collection for you.
The collection contains:

Just once
Faye and Terry have been friends since they were young children. Faye has feelings for Terry and would love to be more than friends. Little does she realise that Terry feels the same way, but he’s worried about destroying their friendship, AND he has a girlfriend. Faye finally throws caution to the wind, taking matters into her own hands- because just once she wants to know what it would be like to more than just his friend. What happens. You have to read the story to find out.

Valentine Misadventure
Sophie’s a mafia Princess. Her father is the Boss. Luke is her bodyguard. It’s Valentines night. So, what happens when her father’s right hand man shows up. There’s an element of danger to this story. What does their Valentine’s have in store for them? Dive in to find out.

Play Time
James is a college student, who has a paranormal experience that could cost him dearly. His encounter with the sexy new student, Timandra, takes an unexpected and dangerous turn. There is definitely more to the school, and the story than meets the eye. Will he survive this new ordeal? Will he find a way to survive? An intriguing premise.

Stepdaddy’s Bad Girl
Eric is determined to subdue his rebellious stepdaughter, and he thinks he know exactly how to get her to submit. But with her feisty attitude, it won’t be so easy. This is a taboo story, with violent encounters, dominance, and elements of BDSM- it really made me a little uncomfortable to read it. Don’t get me wrong, I love taboo stories, dark romance, and stories of ‘submission’ (my kindle content will attest) – but this was more like a really bad porno from a very lecherous point of view- and so I found myself a little disgusted at what I was reading, and didn’t find it erotic at all. I think if it was worked over and expanded, and we were given backstories and the time to invest in the characters- this story could be quite a good taboo read.

Sweet Temptations
Richard who is married with a lovely wife and young child- finds himself tempted by his pretty young babysitter. She has a crush on him, and is very ‘flirty’- so he is having very lustful thoughts. Will the temptation be too much to resist?

Sweet temptations (The Boss’s Daughter)
We catch up with Richard again, who is battling temptation once again. This time in the form of his Boss’s Daughter? Will he succumb?

Thank you, L.M Mountford!

Next Door Knight (Man’s Best Friend Book 2) by Nicole Flockton – Review by Angela Hayes

Next Door Knight (Man's Best Friend #2)Next Door Knight by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Next Door Knight is the second book in the Man’s Best Friend Series by Nicole Flockton. This is my first read by Ms. Flockton, so I was looking forward to seeing how well she could tell a story. I was definitely entertained by what I found. There is a lot to like…
Is it a wonderful story about second chances, forgiveness, new beginnings, patience, friendship, and love…… CHECK.
Is it well written and engaging……CHECK.
Are there well developed and endearing characters who get you invested in them and the outcome of their story…… CHECK.
Is there an adorable, scene stealing pooch you wish you could adopt…. CHECK.
Will this feelgood story leave you with a smile on your face….CHECK.

I won’t want to go into the story, as the blurb really does a great job of what you can expect going in. I felt that although the cover is cute, it doesn’t really “stand-out” and doesn’t immediately make you want to take a second look. If this book hadn’t been recommended to me I probably would have passed it by without a second look, and that would have been a shame, as the story really is worth reading!
I now want to go back and read book one and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the release of book #3.

Thank you, Ms. Flockton!

Winging It (Destiny Rules Series Book 1) by Lisa Gail Green – Review by Angela Hayes

Winging It (Destiny Rules Series Book 1)Winging It by Lisa Gail Green
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Winging It is the first book in the Destiny Rules Series by Lisa Gail Green. It is a really fun, light-hearted fantasy: with magic, fairies, humour, adventure, action, a little suspense, and wonderful world building. The way the ‘world’ and story were woven together, was quite cleverly done- and made the fantasy aspects seem very realistic and believable.
We meet Zach who has just had his world turned upside down, when he discovers that not only is his mother a ‘fairy godmother’- but he’s a fairy too. His adventure begins when his mother is injured, and he has to step in to take over and finish all her assignments. There is a lot at stake in this time sensitive story, and Zach will find himself tested.
I really enjoyed this charming story, even if the teenage angst, thoughts, and dialog frustrated me at times. I read it in one easy sitting- and love the way the story ended! I will definitely be reading book #2.

Thank you, Ms. Green!

The Reason Why by Izzibella Beau – Review by Angela Hayes

The Reason Why: Breathless SeriesThe Reason Why: Breathless Series by Izzibella Beau
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Reason Why is a Breathless Series Novel by Izzibella Beau. It is a Young Adult/New Adult story that has a lot going on in it. From the complex characters, wonderful story, and the emotional and touching moments- this story held my attention the whole way through. It’s a descriptively detailed and well-written story that captures all the angst and inner turmoil the character/s are going through.
We meet Alabama, who is 18 years old. She’s had a pretty rough childhood. Her mother is a real piece of work, that’s for sure! So, when her mother has to attend rehab, Alabama goes to live with her mother’s friend, and her two ‘boys’. And so the story takes flight. There is friendship, a bit of a love triangle, self-discovery, coming of age, yearning, drama, and plenty of angst.
I really felt for Alabama and cheered her on from the sidelines. I really wanted her to succeed and get her chance at a HEA. She’s one of those characters that make you want to hug and nurture them. The story itself was a little predictable, but that didn’t detract too much from my enjoyment of it.
So, if you love a good YA story that takes you on an interesting and emotional journey, then this really is the book for you.
I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

Thank you, Ms. Beau!

Rafferty (Default Distraction #2) by A.S. Roberts – Review by Angela Hayes

Rafferty (Default Distraction #2)Rafferty by A.S. Roberts
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rafferty is the second book in the Default Distraction Series by A.S. Roberts. It is a fantastic Rockstar romance full of emotion, angst, drama, secrets, lies, betrayal, heartbreak, humour, second chances, love, passion, chemistry, and lots more.
Rafferty is the lead guitarist in the band, Default distraction. He, along with his fellow bandmates reached superstardom- playing sold out arenas and gaining fans, fame and massive fortunes. But his life is overshadowed by memories of the woman he walked away from at the beginning of the bands rise to fame. He can’t stop thinking about her and desperately wants to make everything right. But she’s not interested in have her heart shattered again and has worked incredibly hard to rebuild her life after he left her broken. But a when fate thrusts them together again, will they rekindle their love, or has too much time, secrets, lies, and heartache passed for them to ever get over?
Ms. Roberts writes so beautifully- she has a real talent for getting her story and characters to really connect with the reader, pulling us in and captivating us with her words. The energy and tension she creates in her stories, and between her characters, is truly masterful. I can’t imagine anyone reading her stories and not enjoying every single moment.
The characters are really well written, fully developed individuals, with their own quirks and flaws- which makes them very endearing. I loved catching up with the other band members, as well as meeting the other secondary characters. There is sooo much to love about this book. You really should read it for yourself and discover all the emotive and sexy details for yourself. But be prepared for a book binge, as you won’t want to put it down! I read it in one session, staying up long past my bedtime just so I didn’t have to put it down before knowing how it played out.
Can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Roberts!

Run to the Sea (Reigning Hearts Book 1) by KG Fletcher – Review by Angela Hayes

Run to the Sea (Reigning Hearts, #1)Run to the Sea by K.G. Fletcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Run to the Sea is the first book in the Reigning Hearts Series by K.G Fletcher. I love Ms. Fletcher’s books, so I was really happy to get my hands on this one.
We meet Thomas and Emeline who were childhood best friends- supporting each other through some difficult moments in their childhood. They talked about the future, sharing their hopes and dreams- but all that gets put aside when Thomas ends up working in New York City. He’s back in town after his grandfather’s death, which has resulted in Thomas inheriting a beach house. He soon runs into Emeline, and their past connection quickly comes bubbling to the surface- like all that time never passed and their bond is still strong. But there are hidden feelings- which takes them on an unexpected path. This is a great friends-to-lovers/second chances story full of rediscovery, choices, listening to your heart, trusting yourself, being true to yourself, and taking a chance.
The story is sweet, romantic, touching, and engaging. As I would expect from Ms. Fletcher, it is really well written, and the characters are quite endearing. I was hooked right from the beginning and read the story in one sitting.
I am looking forward to book #2!

Thank you, Ms. Fletcher!

Rewind by Rowan Shaw – Review by Angela Hayes

Rewind (Rewind #1)Rewind by Rowan Shaw
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Rewind is the first book in the Rewind Series by Rowan Shaw. It is a emotionally charged M/M, second chances story that pulled me in right from the beginning. The story is a little dark, and very sad in places- and my emotions were battered by what I was reading- but the story is so well written, and the characters were so ‘real’ that I would have walked over hot coals to find out what happens. The drama, chemistry, emotion, and a little suspense was brilliantly woven through the storyline. Ms. Rowan certainly knows how to tell a great story- writing a complex, thought-provoking, moving, memorable, and engrossing story.
Enzo and Florian were the very best of friends, turned lovers, during high school. They kept their relationship secret, until a traumatic event shattered their lives, leaving Enzo deaf and the two on separate courses. Now, a chance encounter reunites the two- much has happened in their lives since they last saw one another, but the sparks are still there. Will they get their second chance, or is there too much in their way to overcome?
A beautiful story about friendship, overcoming obstacles, being true to yourself, self-discovery, second chances, love, pain, heartache, and so much more…..
Bring on Book #2!

Thank you, Ms. Rowan!

Until Fools Find Gold (Providence Gold Book One) by Mary B Moore – Review by Angela Hayes

Until Fools Find GoldUntil Fools Find Gold by Mary B. Moore
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Until Fools Find Gold by Mary B. Moore took me on quite a ride. I didn’t expect to like it quite as much as I did, or to be completely swept up in the story as everything played out.
Luna and Levi were the best of friends, inseparable- until her father whisked her away in the middle of the night- with no contact, since. But now she’s in trouble and the only person she can trust to truly help her is Levi.
Back in the only place she ever felt secure, means seeing Noah again too. Luna and Noah both have feelings for one another, something they never spoke about or acted on, because he was her best friends’ older brother, and she was made off-limits by his brother. But now she’s back and Noah won’t let her slip through his fingers again. But her past doesn’t seem to want to let her go- and things are about to get ‘interesting’.
This story has so much going on in it, in a good way- from friendship and loyalty- to chemistry, love and emotion, there was so much to like about this book. Plenty of laughs helped to balance all the emotional, dramatic moments- and the characters tied it all together.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Moore!

Thank you, Ms. Moore!

A Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George – Review by Angela Hayes

A Person Could Disappear HereA Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4 ½ Stars

A Person Could Disappear Here by Terri George is a thrilling suspense- with plenty of mystery, drama, emotion, intrigue, danger, despair, determination, courage, strength, hope, friendship, and surprising developments. This fairly dark read is gritty, raw, disturbing, intense, and brutal in parts. There were scenes that were quite difficult to read- but the compelling nature of the story made me want to know what would happen- and I needed to know how things would play out in the end. This is my first read by Ms. George, so I was very unsure of what I would find once I opened the book. but after finishing this story, I definitely want to explore more of her work now . A lot happens in this complex story- especially emotionally. Things I won’t go into in any detail, because I don’t want to spoil it for you. But I will say that Abbey takes a chance on love- a chance that places her in a very dire situation. We are led through a story which puts a focus on the dangers of social media, on-line relationships, and much more. It is a very thought provoking read that really gave my emotions a work-out.
Everyone needs a friend like Cristina- that there is true friendship!! Abbey made my heart ache for what she endured. The story is told from both their POV’s, so we get to really ‘see’ what’s going on.
It is apparent how much attention to detail, meticulous planning, and research went into this story- all the hard work made for a very gripping and believable story.
I am looking forward to more!

Thank you, Ms. George!

Wild Heart is the fourth book in the Hollywood Hearts Series by Belinda Williams, This is Faith Martin and Cole Cooper’s story, and what a ride it is! It is a sexy and fun story that has lots of action, romance, mystery, and drama- all set against the backdrop of Hollywood, movie production, and stardom. It is a wonderful second chances story that had me avidly reading right through to the end. The characters are really well developed, and very likeable individuals- who continued to develop and grow over the course of the story.
I was very much invested in them and the outcome of their story. A very engaging read and a great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Williams does next.

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift: Book One (Silent Secrets Series) by Lisette Kristensen – Review by Angela Hayes

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin DriftBlinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift by Lisette Kristensen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Blinded by Betrayal with Spin Drift combines the first two books in the Silent Secrets Series by Lisette Kristensen. It is a brilliant, fast paced, and action packed story that packs quite a punch for such a small package. This is a very quick and easy read, but that doesn’t mean that it is lacking in content- quite the opposite in fact. There is quite a lot going on, and the story easily held my attention, drawing me in further and further as the story progressed. There is plenty of suspense, drama, intrigue, espionage, the mafia, danger, violence, and lots of ‘steam’. This book shows us how “Blackbird” came to be.
Sloane Romano is a mafia princess, the daughter of the Boss, she’s living a privileged life. But all that changes in an instant, when her husband is picked up by the authorities and starts ‘singing’ like a canary. This puts her in the same category as her husband, in the ‘family’s’ eyes- a traitor, with a target on her back. She’s forced to flee- but where to go and more importantly who can she trust. This is where Bettino enters the story- a friend from her school days, he’s her only hope of escaping. But will trusting him prove to be a fatal mistake?
She’s no longer content being a dutiful daughter, and wife- stuck in a lonely, loveless and passionless marriage. Or having a target on her back. At the age of 32, she was finally going to live life on her terms. Her ‘adventure’ begins, and she soon finds herself on a journey of discovery- one that brings self-discovery, sexual discovery/awakening, discovering a new ‘way’ of life, finding her steeliness and embracing her strength, as well as learning deadly new skills.
As I was reading the book, Sloane reminded me a bit of Ziva David, from the television series NCIS. And, I also think this book/series would make a great television series, too.

Thank you, Ms. Kristensen!

Hawke (Men of Syn Series Book 1) by Anise Storm – Review by Angela Hayes

Hawke (Men of Syn, #1)Hawke by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Hawke is the first book in The Men of Syn Series by Anise Storm. This is my first read by Ms. Storm, so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. The blurb and cover intrigued me enough to want to read the book, so I took a chance and dove in. I am really happy that I did, because it is a really great romantic suspense- with an intense erotic element to it. The BDSM scenes are more ‘hardcore’ than you normally find in a romantic suspense- but the story isn’t ‘dark’ enough for me to categorize it as a ‘dark’ romance either. But be warned, there is some blood, references to self-harm, and horrific abuse… as well as lots of pain. The suspense part of the story is really well done, with plenty of danger and intrigue. But there is also an underlying story of seeking redemption, and ending torment.
Charlotte Maxwell is the owner of Platinum Dreams, an up and coming party planning business. She’s worked hard to make her business the success that it is- earning her the reputation as one of the best party planners that Denver has to offer. A year earlier she had decided to explore her submissive desires, with mortifying results. Now she finds herself at an appointment with a new client- only to discover that he’s the Dom behind her humiliating experience. But with a deranged killer right under their noses, and his sights set firmly on Charlotte, things are set to get quite intense. What happens next makes for an exciting read.
Charlotte is a great character I liked her a lot- she’s smart, beautiful, independent, and stubborn. She isn’t without some issues and insecurities, and that plays a part in the story. Nathaniel (Hawke) Hawkins is an intense, haunted character who has so much self-loathing. He’s broken and stuck in the past. I understand why he is the way he is, and I really feel for what he had been through. No one should ever have to experience what he endured. But he also frustrated me with his mixed messages, and all the push-pull- it drove me a little crazy.
The story is told from several POV’s- Charlotte’s, Hawke’s, and the serial killer’s- which builds a really great picture of what’s happening. There are some memories/flashbacks too, which helps to fill in all the backstory.
I am looking forward to book #2.

Thank you, Ms. Storm!

The Werewolf Queen (Wheel of Crowns Series Book #1) by Brandi Elledge – Review by Angela Hayes

The Werewolf Queen (Wheel of Crowns Book 1)The Werewolf Queen by Brandi Elledge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Werewolf Queen is the first spellbinding instalment in the Wheel of Crowns Series by Brandi Elledge. WOW!!! What an amazing story!!! I was completely riveted from the very first page, so completely absorbed by the story, that I lost all sense of time and place. The ‘real’ world ceased to exist as I fell deeper and deeper under Ms. Elledge’s spell. This is one of those books that deserves to be read- it’s so fascinating, engrossing, and entirely unforgettable. Ms. Elledge is a new-to-me author and now I am kicking myself that I hadn’t discovered her and her books before now- but now that I have she has earned a spot on my ‘must read’/favourite authors list. I have already started on the next book in the series, and pre-ordered Book #3 (due out 25th April).
The Werewolf Queen is an action-packed paranormal fantasy, with werewolves, witches, warlocks, psychics, soothsayers, vampires, fairies, demons, ogres, succubi, magic, the supernatural, blood oaths, visions, fate, missing keys, different planes/realms, bloody battles, intensity, drama, and so much more.
We meet Sadie Grey, who comes from a long line of witches, and lives in a town of witches, even attending a school for witches- but she feels like a dud, and a real failure, because her ‘powers’ have failed to manifest, yet. But all that changes on the night of her 18th birthday, when 3 strangers arrive in town- turning life as she knows it upside-down. She is swept up on a quest to retrieve some very important keys, with the fate of the world resting in her hands- while meeting many new friends, and enemies, along the way. What part will the gorgeous, complicated, brooding, and protective werewolf play in this incredible story- you really must read the book to find out- you really won’t be disappointed!!!
OMG! Where do I even begin to do this book the justice it deserves! It is so funny, emotive, exciting, fast-paced, intense, touching, romantic, and just plain incredible. The story is told from Sadie’s perspective, which I loved- but I really wanted to hear from Camden and would love to have had his perspective too. I love Sadie, she was a fantastic female lead- I was completely invested in her, Camden, and the outcome of the story. Sadie learns so much about herself, her family, her ‘powers’, and the world she thought she knew. I loved Granny- she is hilarious. Jo is such a great character, too- a perfect best friend for Sadie, and a wonderful addition to the story. I also loved Lil (Lilly-Ana)- she was a hoot. I wanted to adopt Kong and bring him home- I really felt for what he’d been through. But he really added an extra element of interest and imagination to the story. I can’t wait to read Jameson’s story, and Stephen’s story- but would also love to read Jo’s story, as well as Austin’s- hint, hint Ms. Elledge.
Ms. Elledge is a gifted storyteller and excels at complex, vividly detailed world building- bringing the whole story to life, making it entirely realistic and believable. Truly masterful!
Without a doubt, one of my favourite reads of the year!!

Bravo, and thank you Ms. Elledge!

Garrett (Dark Water Security Series Book #2) by Madison Quinn – Review by Angela Hayes

Garrett (Dark Water Security #2)Garrett by Madison Quinn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Garrett is the second book in the Dark Water Security Series by Madison Quinn. After reading Luke (Book #1), I was intrigued by the rest of the Dark Water Security team, so when this book released, I wanted to read it to find out what happens and discover more about Garrett, who was the ‘new guy’ on the team in book #1. This is a story of second chances, secrets, danger, suspense, some mystery, drama, threats, intrigue, chemistry, and steamy encounters.
As I’ve mentioned, we met Garrett back in book #1- he’s an ex-marine and new to the DWS team. His new assignment working personal security for a Tech mogul requires him to live on site, something he isn’t too keen on. But what he doesn’t expect to find there is ‘the one who got away’ two and a half years ago. She disappeared from his bed after an unforgettable night of passion, leaving nothing but a memory. Now he’s determined to discover why. But what happens when danger comes calling? What happens when her secret is revealed? All these answers can be found by reading the intriguing details for yourself.
I enjoyed this story more than the first book, but again I felt a little ‘let down’ by the ‘big reveal’- it was a bit of an anti-climax after such a great build up. The danger element was well done, but again I felt it needed to be more explosive/powerful to fit in with all the ‘lead-up’. But overall, it’s an enjoyable story.
I am intrigued by what I will find in Book #3.

Thank you, MS. Quinn!

Drawing Bloodlines (The Princeton Allegiant Series Book #1) by Deborah Garland – Review by Angela Hayes

Drawing BloodlinesDrawing Bloodlines by Deborah Garland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Drawing Bloodlines is the first book in The Princeton Allegiant Series by Deborah Garland. OMG- this book is sooo good. I was hooked from the first page, and didn’t put it down till I had read every word. If this first incredible instalment is anything to go by this series is set to be AMAZING!!! I absolutely loved Ms. Garlands Darling Cove Series, but this book managed to eclipse them. Let’s face it though, Ms. Garland had me at the mere mention of vampires- as I LOVE a good paranormal romance, and this certainly has fit that bill!!
I won’t go into the plot/synopsis- because the blurb does a better job than I ever could- but I wish I could find the words to do this author and this book the justice they deserve, because this book is a ‘breath of fresh air’ in a genre that can get a bit ‘stale’. I really CAN NOT WAIT to sink my teeth into the rest of the series- the new instalment/s can’t come quick enough for my liking.
As I have mentioned, this is a fantastic paranormal romance with plenty of feels, second chances, drama, excitement, passion, action, angst, vampire ‘politics, hidden agendas, a completely captivating plot, and exceptional world building by Ms. Garland. The premise of the story is creative and imaginative- and has a uniqueness and originality that is hard to find in this genre.
These new characters are superb- and that’s one of the things that Ms. Garland does so very well- being able to get her reader/s to completely invest in her characters and their story, whilst also imbuing the story with so much emotion, tension, and anticipation- that pulls the reader into the story and has us smiling, laughing, sobbing, and swooning as we follow along.
I got to the end and I really didn’t want the story to have finished, I wanted to keep reading and explore more of the “world’ and characters. I want to know so much more about Elizabeth and Alex’s lives… and I hope we get that chance in future instalments. I NEED Loren and Julianna’s story now, too- as well as Francisco’s!!! Gah… I am so excited to see what comes next!!!
This is a “MUST READ” for any avid paranormal romance fan- but anyone who loves a great, well written, romantic, and captivating read should also consider this book- as this story/series really does deserve to be read and should be on everyone’s TBR list!

Kudos!!! And Thank you, Ms. Garland!

After Hurricane Nina: Rand’s Resolution (Hot Hunks- Steamy Romance Collection) by Tamara Ferguson – Review by Angela Hayes

After Hurricane Nina, Rand's Resolution (Hot Hunks-Steamy Romance Collection)After Hurricane Nina, Rand’s Resolution by Tamara Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“In the aftermath of death and destruction, eight strong sexy men will realize it’s time for a change in their lives. A resolution of sorts. A contractor, personal trainer, a millionaire, a stuntman, a rock star, a thrill-seeker, an army veteran, and a trust fund prodigal will all find a way to conquer their loss and learn to love. This is Rand’s story…”

Rand’s Resolution by Tamara Ferguson is part of the After Hurricane Nina Series: (Hot Hunks- Steamy Romance collection). It is a fantastic contemporary romance, with plenty of action, adventure, drama, danger, secrets, intrigue, terrorists, suspense, tension, chemistry, spice, and wonderful characters.
As I have said before, Ms. Ferguson is one of my ‘one-click- no questions asked’ authors- as I know that she will always deliver a story that will captivate and entertain me. They are stories that I can lose myself in (in a very good way)- becoming part of the story as everything unfolds around me- and this story was no exception. This became quite an intriguing and suspenseful read, and as the story progressed, I found myself reading as fast as I could, completely under her spell, flipping the pages to discover what would happen next.
Rand and Ciara have a history, meeting on the beach as teenagers (he was 15 and she was 13). Now, 13 years later they will run into each other again on Bali. He’s got a reputation of being a player and living quite the luxurious lifestyle after inheriting some money. She’s an Air Force Lieutenant holidaying on the Island with her friends. There is recognition, and chemistry- and soon sparks begin to ignite. But we soon learn that not everything is as it seems and there is much more going on than first appears. Danger threatens, and lives are put on the line. And so comes Rand’s Resolution.
This is a very quick and easy read, with a great pace and a smooth flow. I devoured it in less than two hours. I love Ms. Ferguson’s attention to detail and all the interconnected elements she adds to her stories. While some aspects of her stories can be a little predictable, such as a guaranteed wonderful romance and engrossing, well written story- but then she always adds little twists or surprises that add an unpredictability and keep me guessing.
This book is part of a series- a collaboration by eight talented authors who each contributed an original, standalone story about a life changing moment which leads to a resolution that ultimately leads to love. I enjoyed this book so much, of course I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ms. Ferguson- but the premise behind this collection really intrigued me into wanting to discover what the other stories contained, too- so I went on a one-click frenzy and brought them all to explore asap.
Looking forward to whatever Ms. Ferguson does next.

Thank you, Ms. Ferguson!

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk – Review by Angela Hayes

Operation BoyfriendOperation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Operation Boyfriend by Molly Zenk is a new adult romance story with a little drama, some angst, emotion, hidden agendas, revelations, danger, revenge, friendship, humour, surprising developments, and a love triangle. I initially thought the story was going to be a little predictable, but Ms. Zenk added a twist that definitely gave some excitement to the story. This is also my first read by Ms. Zenk.
Glynnis hasn’t had much luck when it came to her love life. Her long-term boyfriend leaves her- for another GUY! And when she finally decides to get back out there, she has one disastrous date after another. We follow along as Glynnis traverses college life, social media, and dating. She meets Corin, and then Daniel is added to the mix. One is quirky, goofy, and awkward- while the other is suave, confident, and successful. Glynnis has a dilemma, head vs heart. What will she decide? But not everything is as it appears…
The story contains some humour and emotion which help to give the story balance. But there was also a lot of texting/social media posts/and blogging scenes- but I’m not sure that there needed to be quite so much of it as I felt that it interrupted the flow of the story at times.
If you like angst, new adult romance, realistic and believable young adult characters, and a twist to your storyline- then this is the story for you!

Thank you, Ms. Zenk!

Wolf (The Fairy Tale Series Book #3) by Jody Lynn Daniels – Review by Angela Hayes

Wolf: Book 3 in The Fairy Tale Series (Fairy Tale Series )Wolf: Book 3 in The Fairy Tale Series by Jody Lynn Daniels
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

                            “Never trust a stranger-friend
No one knows how it will end
As you’re pretty, so be wise
Wolves may lurk in every guise…”

                              LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

Wolf is the third book in the Fairy Tale Series by Jody Lynn Daniels. It is a second chances romance, with a military aspect to the story, as well as finding love where you least expect it.
Maggie never expected to have to face the man who she blames for her husband’s death, ever again. She can’t and won’t ever forgive him. So, when she’s forced to spend the next two weeks in his company, she expects it to be quite difficult.
Carson (The Wolf) was Maggie’s husbands commanding officer, but also his best friend. He was hoping Maggie would have let him explain, but she never wanted to listen. Will two weeks change anything?

“The look Maggie gave me hurt worse than the slap to the face, which still stung pretty good. She still blames me for Sean’s death, which she might change her mind if she’d let me explain. But she’d made her mind up years ago and wouldn’t speak to me again about it, there was no talking to her.”

This is a modern take on the popular fairy tale “Little Red Riding Hood”. I am definitely going to go back to read the first two books now, too. I enjoyed the story and the author’s writing style which is descriptive and detailed. There was a lot of emotion infused into the storyline- and I really felt for the character’s and what they had both been through. Maggie and Carson were wonderful, and I was cheering them on the whole way. I loved Abby, she is great- everyone needs an Abby in their life- funny, thoughtful, caring, and loyal.
A great read!

Thank you, Ms. Daniels!

Hell on Heels (PJ Santini Series Book #1) by Lynne Russell – Review by Angela Hayes

Hell On Heels (PJ Santini Series Book 1)Hell On Heels by Lynne Russell
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hell On Heels is the first book in the PJ Santini Series by Lynne Russell. It is a private eye mystery which drew me in from the beginning. Ms. Russell is a new to me author, and I have enjoyed my first foray into her work. The fast pace, danger, suspense and humour made for an intriguing read.
We meet PJ Santini who is a smart, independent, witty, stubborn, and inquisitive television news reporter who moonlights as a private eye. She loves the chase of a good story and digging up the truth. We follow her on her latest investigation/assignment . And there is also a bit of a love triangle of sorts, which adds to the overall storyline. The characters were all really well crafted, even the secondary characters held their own in this story. There was edge of my seat moments, as well as some funny scenes. I have already jumped into book #2, because I want to know what PJ gets up to next!

Thank you, Ms. Russell!

Me and Cinderella (The Dirty Rooster #2)Me and Cinderella by Kelly Mooney
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Me and Cinderella is the second book in The Dirty Rooster Series by Kelly Mooney. It is a contemporary romance with drama, humour, secrets, angst, funny banter, family ties, chemistry, and a sweet romance.
Eli had a difficult childhood, but has worked hard to make something of himself. Back in town to take care of his little brother, he doesn’t expect to see Remington (Remy) again. But fate has other ideas. But as they both come from different sides of the tracks, what chance do they have? What happens next makes for a great read and kept me entertained the whole way through.
The character development was fantastic, and they were very easy to like. I loved the banter between them, and the family ties that were an important part of the story.
A sexy and emotive book!

Thank you, Ms. Mooney!

Hate to Love You (Baker’s Bunch Book 1) by Lily Ryan – Review by Angela Hayes

Hate to Love You (Baker's Bunch Book 1)Hate to Love You by Lily Ryan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hate to Love You is the first book in the Baker’s Bunch Series by Lily Ryan. It is a contemporary/ new adult romance story with a brother’s best friend- forbidden romance theme.
Cole Andrews and Samantha Stone share a history, growing up together- she is his best friend’s little sister, and completely off-limits. But a passionate night together changes everything, and a secret relationship begins. What happens if their secret is revealed? Do these two really have a chance at a future together? What about his friendship with her brother?
This was a well written and engaging story, if not a little predictable. This angsty story really had me rooting for Cole and Samantha, and I really wanted them to find their HEA, together!
I have enjoyed Ms. Ryan’s easy to read writing style and look forward to her next book.

Thank-you, Ms Ryan!!

Don’t Let Me (Simplicit Duet Book #1) by Marie Skye – Review by Angela Hayes

Don't Let Me (The Simplicit Duet #1)Don’t Let Me by Marie Skye
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Don’t Let Me is the first book in the Simplicit Duet by Marie Skye. I fell in love with Ms. Skye’s work while reading the Incapable Series, where her books branded themselves on my soul, and have read every new release since then. I had been anticipating this book for a while now, so I was really excited to finally have it in my hands. I had no doubt that this book would be every bit as good as Ms. Skye’s previous ones, if not better- so I couldn’t wait to dive in. I am happy to report that this story is all that I could have hoped for, and more…… it’s delicious- completely addictive and different from her other books. It’s quite intense and emotive, as we have come to expect from Ms. Skye- but is one of those books you come across from time to time where you get so caught up in the story that when the end comes you flick over the page hoping to keep reading, wanting desperately for the story to continue, all the while thinking “what, wait- what the hell did I just read?” Well, this is one of ‘those’ books! I need that second book Stat! That ending- OMG!!!
Do yourself a favour and grab a copy, you won’t regret it! Highly recommended reading! Bring on Book #2!!!!!
Brilliant!

Thank-you Ms. Skye!

Lies Come True (The Avery Hart Trilogy Book 1) by Emerald O’Brien – Review by Angela Hayes

Lies Come True (Avery Hart Trilogy, #1)Lies Come True by Emerald O’Brien
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lies Come True is the first book in the Avery Hart Trilogy by Emerald O’Brien. This is the first book of Ms. O’Brien’s that I have read, so I was looking forward to reading this story, discovering her style, and enjoying the mystery. It is a suspenseful murder mystery- with drama, intrigue, and plenty of surprising developments. Ms. O’Brien deftly wove her story, building tension and suspense, and adding enough twists to really leave me guessing, the whole way through.
Avery Hart endured a very traumatic experience ten years prior that has left her a little broken. So, what will she do when her nightmares come back, with deadly consequences- now that a dangerous and cunning killer is on the loose and targeting women. We follow Avery, Noah, Fiona, and the rest of the cast as this gripping mystery unfolds. Will they uncover the mystery before anyone else gets hurt or killed? Will it put a target on their backs? How will it all play out?
A gripping, intriguing, and believable story which kept me on the edge of my seat. Bring on Book Two!

Thank you, Ms. O’Brien!

Heart of Stone: Emery & Jackson (Heart of Stone Series Book 1) by Chiquita Dennie – Review by Angela Hayes

(Heart of Stone Series Book #1) Emery&Jackson(Heart of Stone Series Book #1) Emery&Jackson by Chiquita Dennie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 ½ Stars

Heart of Stone: Book #1: Emery & Jackson is the first book in the Heart of Stone Series by Chiquita Dennie. Ms. Dennie is a ‘new-to-me’ author, so I was looking forward to reading her story and seeing what it was like. It is a contemporary romance that had drama, funny moments, chemistry, and passion.
Emery caught her (ex) boyfriend in bed with her best friend. Double betrayal! She’s very hurt. But she also wants to put it all behind her, as she has a ‘secret’ that she needs to deal with. She’s definitely not interested in relationships- no-strings hook-ups will suit her just fine. But, will a persuasive, sexy, wealthy, alpha-type male be able to change her stone cold opinion, get her to let down her defences, and to take a chance on love again? You really need to read this book to discover all the sexy details for yourself.
Good character development, interesting characters with quirky personalities. I loved Granny! Jackson is alpha-male swooniness!! Emery is all woman, and is perfect for Jackson. Minor issue- some of the sex scenes were a little awkward for me, the descriptive words seemed a little old fashioned, or out of place. (eg: …”her juices bury(?) my c**k as we slowly rock back and forth….”). Maybe it’s just me?
Looking forward to seeing what’s in store for Jordan & Damon in Book #2.

Thank you, Ms. Dennie!

Vantage Point (A Gray Ghost Novel Book #4) by Amy McKinley – Review by Angela Hayes

Vantage Point (Gray Ghost #4)Vantage Point by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vantage Point is the fourth book in the Gray Ghosts series by Amy McKinley. It is Hawk Ares and Stella Klein’s story- and is a fantastic, adrenaline fueled, action packed romantic suspense. It has drama, violence, gunfights, showdowns, grudge matches, hidden agendas, suspense, mystery, twists, intrigue, danger, gripping situations, thrills, and plenty of emotion. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way through, devouring the pages to discover what was happening, holding my breath, and being catapulted from one intense moment right into another. I won’t go into detail, because I really don’t want to spoil it for you. I recommend going in ‘blind’ and getting swept up by all the excitement.
I was hooked from the beginning- caught up in all the action, thrills and danger- right there with the character’s experiencing everything alongside them. I adore this series, everything about it- Ms. McKinley out does herself every time, with each new release even better than the one before it.
This could be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the rest of the series to get all the backstories, character information, and other pertinent details. As well as the other books being fantastic stories in their own rights! You can’t go wrong with Ms. McKinley at the wheel!
Can’t wait to read the next book!!!!

Thank you, Ms. McKinley!

Broken Pieces by Judith B. Pinkard – Review by Angela Hayes

Broken PiecesBroken Pieces by Judith B. Pinkard
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“I have a story to tell. It is unbelievable, yet true. A story that can make people rethink their belief system. It is a story that needs to be told—a tragic, yet redeeming story. I’ll start my book tomorrow. It comes to me that my beginning started like this storm. Even from conception, it wasn’t planned—one of those decisions or choices that shapes lives. It happened somewhere, sometime in February 1950.”

Broken Pieces is the debut novel by Judith B. Pinkard. It is a somewhat harrowing biography- and was thought-provoking, heartbreaking, and entirely memorable. There were parts that were quite emotional- my heart broke for her. The authors account covers her life’s journey- from her miraculous beginnings, through her unsettled childhood, dysfunctional family environment, abandonment, insecurities, turmoil, pain, mental illness, hope, faith, second chances, choices, and much more.

“Choices. Life is all about choices. Some are other people’s, and some yours, but a choice is always involved. The wrong choice can change the course of your life forever. Like tornadoes, the wrong choice may occur unexpectedly and be devastating.”

I wasn’t sure if I would ‘like’ this book when I picked it up, I thought it would be far too sad and depressing- and don’t get me wrong, there are parts of the story that ARE very sad, and quite depressing- but it was the thread of faith and hope that really ‘lifts’ this story- giving it a redeeming and inspirational quality.

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”—Haruki Murakami

The quotes at the beginning of each chapter helped to set the tone for the chapter, and added to the overall storyline. There were gory details, heart-stopping and quite shocking moments- but these moments helped to set the scene and the ‘miracle’ that happened amongst the devastation. The photos at the end certainly cemented the whole story.

“Sometimes the brightest people fight with the ugliest demons.”

I appreciate the author’s candour and applaud her bravery in sharing her journey.

Thank you, Ms. Pinkard!

Things We Lost (Loving Locksley Series Book 1) by Shae Banks – Review by Angela Hayes

Things We Lost (Loving Locksley Book 1)Things We Lost by Shae Banks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3 ½ Stars

Things We Lost is the first book in the Loving Locksley Series by Shae Banks. This is my first book by Ms. Banks, so I really didn’t know what to expect when I started the story. The book had shown up on my recommended book feed, and I thought the synopsis sounded interesting, so I one-clicked and jumped in. This is a contemporary/second chance romance- and is a quick and easy read.
Nathalie Johnson is on a ‘girls-night-out’ with her friend, when she encounters the man who left without so much as a backward glance and a broken heart 13 years ago- Jason Locksley. Much has happened in that time, but it still stings a little and she’s still wary of him. There are unresolved issues between them. But he’s nothing but persistent and manages to convince her to have coffee with him anyway. But persistence and determination win out and as you have probably guessed by now, he gets his second chance. But do they really have a chance of making things work after all this time? Will some misunderstandings tear them apart again?
This was a sweet story. Ms. Banks used a tried and tested formula for her story, and wrote quite well- I just found it to be a little predictable- and it didn’t really WOW me like I was hoping for.
I am looking forward to exploring some of Ms. Banks other works to see what else she can do.

Thank you, Ms. Banks!

Reset to One (Paranormal Talent Agency Series Book 2) by Heather Silvio – Review by Angela Hayes

Reset to One (Paranormal Talent Agency, #2)Reset to One by Heather Silvio
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reset to One is the second book in the Paranormal Talent Agency Series by Heather Silvio. This is a really fun read- a paranormal mystery (a ‘who-dunnit’), with romance, murder, secrets, intrigue, danger, discoveries, supernatural elements, and wonderful characters.
We met Evelyn Jones (Evie) in the first book, where she was part of the supporting cast. But here she gets to star in her own story. Evie is an actress, and a vampire, who signed on with Catherine (Book #1) at the Peterson Talent Agency. She gets a role in a new movie, with a sexy co-star Ryan. The mystery starts when Ryan’s friend is accused of murder and Evie offers to help him find who really did it. But what happens when her ex arrives in town? Will they be able to solve the mystery? Will her being a vampire prove to be to be a ‘deal-breaker’ for Ryan? I also liked seeing some of the characters from the first book appearing in this story too and playing their part.
As with the first book, the story is a little predictable, but again, that didn’t detract from my enjoyment. It is a really sweet story, with an original spin on the paranormal romance/mystery theme. And I think that the books would make a fun television series, too.
I am looking forward to seeing what Ms. Silvio does next!

Thank you, Ms. Silvio!

Flirty Dancing: A Spicy Romantic Comedy About the Afterlife (The Green Room Chronicles Book #3) by J.D Frettier – Review by Angela Hayes

Flirty DancingFlirty Dancing by J.D. Frettier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Flirty Dancing is the third book in The Green Room Chronicles series by J.D Frettier. It is a paranormal fantasy, and like its series companions, has a lot of laughs along the way. But I also think this story has more emotional moments in it than I remember the other two books having. But like the other two stories, it’s funny, cheeky, and entirely entertaining! There are supernatural elements, magic, and some spice to be found in this witty romp. I am really enjoying Ms. Frettier’s imaginative, fun, and slightly tongue-in-cheek look at the afterlife!
An unfortunate stripper pole incident takes Kitty Eatin to purgatory- aka The Green Room. She’s not ready to give up living, and certainly isn’t ready to say goodbye to her husband and children. So she enlists the help of some newfound friends and comes up with a plan. What ensues makes for some very entertaining reading.

Thank you, Ms. Frettier!
