Rescued by the Scot is the third book in the Romancing the Spies series by Laura A. Barnes. This has been an interesting and fun series to read. Although the stories contain quite a bit of drama and violence- and I was held in suspense quite a bit- there is also a charming quality to it as well. This story is an intriguing and action-packed historical romance that has kidnapping, hidden agendas, mystery, suspense, adventure, drama, betrayal, espionage, danger, action, seduction, chemistry, romance, and passion. This is the third book in the series, and could be read as a standalone, but having said that, this book may focus on a different couple than the first and second books, but there is a continuing storyline that bridges all the books, so I really recommend reading all the books to help build a better understanding of characters, backstory, and motivations.
Zane Maxwell is a recurring character in the series, whom I was hoping we would get to see much more of. Well, we certainly get to do that in this story. Skye is a fantastic character and the chemistry between her and Zane was intense. They really were so great together. But, Ms. Barnes doesn’t make thing easy for them- they have to work for their happiness. We also get to catch up with the characters from the previous books, which I appreciated. I am hoping that this isn’t the end of the Romancing the Spies series- hopefully there is more to come.
A wonderful addition to the series and my favourite of the three!

Kingdom of the Damned: Provocation is the prelude to the Kingdom Journals by Tricia Copeland. It is a paranormal fantasy full of vampires, witches, history, drama, suspense, adventure and discovery. This book is so wonderfully descriptive and vividly detailed, bringing every scene to life before my eyes. The imagery is superb. Ms. Copeland is a fantastic author who delivers a complex and captivating story- I loved how she combined some history with fantasy and made it entirely believable. This is the prelude to the other books in the series- “ Kingdom of Embers” (Book One: Alena’s story), “Kingdom of Darkness” (Book Two: Camille’s story), “Kingdom of Honor” (Book Three: Jude’s story) and “Kingdom of War” (Book Four: Hunter’s Story- due for release in 2019) so you don’t need to have read the other books in the series first, but I can guarantee you will probably want to by the time you’ve finished this.
Anne Scott was born a vampire and would have good reason to be full of hate and anger- her family were all killed by witches, forcing her to flee to a foreign country when she was only two. Living among humans wouldn’t have been easy, but she not only survived, but thrived. But then tragedy strikes again, devastating Anne once more. Heartbroken, she searches for meaning, for belonging and ends up on an epic journey of discovery, that fuels her passion for peace.
Anne really is a fantastic character, but then I really wouldn’t have expected anything less from Ms. Copeland. All the characters were fully developed and interesting. The character growth over the course of the story was wonderful to see. I love the solid foundation that this book brings to the series, as a whole, and helps me to better appreciate it.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!

Repressed is the brilliant third book in the Ash Park Series by Meghan O’Flynn. WOW! This book was intense, dark, disturbing, chilling, graphic, dramatic, and gripping!! This psychological thriller is a superb addition to the series and had me swinging between never wanting to put it down, and needing a break from the tension and suspense. I was glued to the pages from beginning to end, reading it in one sitting- and absolutely loved every mind twisting minute.
The series has been such a fantastic read, and this book just took the series to another level. I didn’t think it could get any better, but I was wrong! This book could be read as a standalone, if you wanted to, but there is a recurring cast of characters and snippets of backstory and previous plot information that pop up in this book, so reading all the books would give you a bigger picture and provide a larger, more developed perspective- which in turn will enhance your overall reading experience. The books are all really great- quite intriguing and suspenseful, so you it’s really a win-win situation!
I knew when I met Curtis Morrison back in book one that there was going to be so much more to him that what he was letting on, or what we were being shown- and man-oh-man this story really unveils him in a raw and revealing way! His story was startling, intense, emotional, and unforgettable! He has been through so much and come so far, but his past just won’t let him forget! After the harrowing events in the previous book, and Curtis and Shannon getting married and having little Evie, this book picks up with them adjusting to parenthood, Shannon trying to manage with Postpartum depression, and Curtis returning to work after a month off. Things are never simple in Ms. O’Flynn’s world, because it’s not long before we are once more swept into another brilliantly twisted tale. This is definitely the best of the bunch so far!

Transformations is the first book in The Shifter Series by Cari Schaeffer. It is a paranormal shifter story with a bit of a twist. It has quite an original premise and is definitely not the usual shifter fare. I was intrigued by what the story would reveal, and curious to see where everything would lead. This is a tale of a feud between two powerful shifter families that has spanned many generations and hundreds of years. No one really knows exactly what happened to cause the war between them, but the battle lines are still drawn and tensions continue to this day! All of this is woven around a interesting coming of age story.
The story is told from several points of view which really help to build the bigger picture. There was a lot of information and characters, and at times I did question whether ALL of the information and scenes were necessary, as some of the details seemed unwarranted and superfluous to the story.
We meet Katherine Wolff (Kat) and her quirky, close-knit family. At seventeen, she’s one of the younger members of her clan. Her abilities have yet to emerged and she is both expectantly wondering what her ‘powers’ will be, and wishing that she could just be ‘normal’. It’s been many years since the Wolff’s have encountered their enemy, the Barotkoff family- but it’s expected that they will eventually strike again.
When a handsome and mysterious stranger pops up with a warning that the Wolff’s are in peril, it doesn’t take long before things take on a dangerous turn. It turns out that the mysterious stranger is in fact part of their rival family. Christopher Barotkoff swears he is nothing like his family and only wants to help the Wolff’s. But can they really trust him? Is there something more to his sudden appearance? And when things start to heat up between Kat and him, can she trust him with her heart?
The story had some great banter, funny quips and antics which added another element of entertainment to the overall storyline. This book has very long chapters and the story was a little slow to get going. I felt there was too much time spent on character introductions and exploring the Wolff’s family dynamics, and life. I didn’t feel like the ‘story’ actually started till about the 9th chapter. The book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger and I will definitely be reading the next book, “Transgressions”, to see how everything turns out.

Marks of the Mazza is the first book in the Mazza Series, and incredible debut by Blake Blessing. It is a brilliant fantasy with a paranormal/reverse harem/polyamorous romance. There is also lots of action, adventure, danger, drama, suspense, and mystery. Here’s where I will come clean and admit that I usually avoid harem/reverse harem books as they aren’t really ‘my-cup-of-tea. But having said that, this book is certainly an exception to that rule…. the story has really won me over. It was the beautiful cover and the promise of an epic story that really convinced me to read the book. What I found when I opened the book is an exceptionally well written story that had me engrossed within minutes- so to then find that it’s also the author’s debut novel, just blew me away.
The characters are not just fully realised individuals with their own personalities, but they are also incredibly interesting and endearing as well. I was very quickly and easily invested in them and the outcome of their story. There was a lot going on in the book, but Ms. Blessing choreographed everything into a smooth and captivating read.
Isolde Bardot’s world as she knows it turns upside down from the moment she stumbles into the wrong ’Uber’. She discovers a whole world she never knew existed and that she has an incredible part to play in that ‘world’. The responsibility is somewhat daunting, as is the thought that she now has a Lusty Legion of men to bond with. It’s a confusing and dangerous time for her. For one, it doesn’t feel ‘normal’ to take more than one partner long-term. Then finding out magic is real and there are different realms too, has boggled her mind. But, there are plots afoot that have targeted Issy and her safety in these schemes isn’t guaranteed. So, she’s left questioning it all and feeling the weight of responsibility thrust upon her.
I LOVED this book- from the gorgeous cover to the wonderfully exciting story and the fantastic characters- all showcasing the dynamic writing and incredible imagination of Ms. Blessing.
OMG book two can’t come quick enough for my liking! I need it NOW!! I absolutely can’t wait!

Burning Britely by Deidre Huesmann is a great YA/coming of age story, full of self-discovery, angst, drama, friendship, expectations, emotions, and self-acceptance. I am familiar with Ms. Huesmann’s other work, and really liked the Modern Greek Tale series, and The Alpha’s Pride- but this book is something different – and again it just proves that Ms. Huesmann can work with any genre/subject and create an engrossing story.
The book is a short story and is a very quick and easy read. It has a great pace and a smooth flow. The story and characters were interesting and quite relatable. I loved the strong character development and growth that occurred over the course of the story. For such a short story, the characters were fully realised, and the story had a depth that’s not so easy to achieve in a short amount of space- but Ms. Huesmann certainly succeeded where many have failed.
I am not going to give away spoilers, or rehash the premise of the story- as the blurb does a better job than I ever could. But, I do recommend reading this book, especially to those who love a great YA novel that has all the angst and inner turmoil that come with being a teenager- exploring the characters ‘coming of age’.

Beneath A Blue Moon is the spellbinding second instalment in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. It could be read as a standalone, but seriously, do yourself a real favour and read book one! You really won’t regret it!
I am so in LOVE with this series- I adore everything about it- the brilliant writing, the wonderfully captivating storylines, and the fantastic characters (yes, even the ‘badies’- because the story wouldn’t be the same without them). I didn’t expect going into the first book that I would love it as much as I did, so going into this one I did have pretty high expectations and I was somewhat sceptical as to whether Ms. Pulkinen could deliver another book that would enthrall me as much as the first- but what I found between the covers of Beneath A Blue Moon is so much better than anything I could have imagined. I truly love both books so much, but I have to say that this one has etched itself into my heart just a little deeper than the first!
It is a great paranormal romance- with shifters/werewolves, witches, the supernatural, mystery, suspense, danger, action, murder, drama, secrets, shocking discoveries, and emotion. As with the first book, the story unfolds against the vibrant and mystical backdrop of New Orleans.
Rain Connelly is fairly new to town, opening a bakery called Spellbound Sweets. She’s a witch who had her powers bound and has spent the past seven years looking for a way to get them back. Owning a bakery has always been one of her dreams and she hopes that she can make it a successful venture. But things aren’t going as well as she hoped, having invested all her funds into getting the bakery up and running, she really needs it to start bringing in customers and making money- or she will be forced to close the doors on her dream. When the Alpha werewolf and his fiancée are looking for a bakery to make their wedding cake, Rain wants to win them over and secure the job, as it would be a much-needed boost for her fledgling business. But when the groom arrives with his seriously sexy and completely aggravating second in command, instead of his bride- things don’t go as smoothly as she’d like. In fact, her lack of filter may have just cost her the job.
Chase Beauchamp is the second in command of the Crescent City Pack (we got to meet him in Book #1) and a good friend of Luke, the Alpha. He’s incredibly loyal to the pack and his family. They mean the world to him and he’d do anything for them. But his past experiences have left him with an aversion to witches- yeah, he pretty much can’t stand them. So, when he’s obliged to join Luke on a cake tasting session, he’s really not impressed to discover the bakery belongs to a witch. When he meets Rain for the first time, he’s taken aback by how much he is drawn to her. But witches can’t be trusted- can they? Plus, he feels that there is something she’s hiding- and he makes it his mission to discover what it is. As strange things begin to happen, he can’t help feeling protective of her and being anywhere near her causes their chemistry to sizzle.
When bodies begin to pile up and the past comes looking for revenge- will these two survive long enough to find out what fate has in store for them. What happens when Chase discovers her secret? Will he understand, or will his mistrust and hatred of witches cloud his reasoning? Will she take the chance to break the curse that binds her magic, or will she sacrifice everything to save the ones she loves?
As with the first book, this story is quite gripping and suspenseful- with a bit of a ‘mystery’ to try to unravel. There are also some funny moments- witty quips, banter and antics that made me smile/laugh. The chemistry between Rain and Chase was palpable, and there were some very steamy moments to be had between these two! Ms. Pulkinen built the tension and the intrigue superbly. I was hanging on her every word and I definitely had my heart in my mouth for the last few chapters- HOLY MOLEY!!!
Book #3 can’t come quickly enough for my liking!!!! I can’t wait to read Alexis and Bryce’s story… I think it’s going to be epic!!!

Conviction is the second instalment in the gripping Ash Park Series by Meghan O’Flynn. I am really enjoying this series, as it has all the elements required to make it a great thriller. This second book could be read as a standalone, but as it has recurring characters, and some backstory from the first book- I really recommend reading book one before embarking on this one, so you get the entire picture and the ‘complete’ experience. The story is quite suspenseful, and the author did a great job of creating tension and building anticipation. I was trying to pick up any clues and piece the puzzle together to figure out what was happening and solve the mystery.
Ms. O’Flynn has woven a compelling story, full of interconnected details, multiple layers, intrigue, danger, mystery, drama, thrills, and chills. She kept me guessing the whole way through. Conviction is set about a year after Famished and we get to catch up with Shannon Taylor, Eddie Petrosky, Curtis Morrison and a few other characters who we met in book #1. Ms. O’Flynn gave this story a flavour all its own- and it’s a fantastic follow up to Famished.
I can’t wait to dive into book #3!

Nikolai: A Mafia Prince Romance is the first book in the Russian Mob Chronicles- and part of the incredible Enigma series by Shandi Boyes. This is an exceptionally well written story- and nothing less than what I have come to expect from this consummate storyteller. She manages to enthrall me with every new release, each book leaving me in complete awe of her talents. This book can be read as a standalone but believe me when I say that one of Ms. Boyes books will never be enough and you will WANT to go back to read the other books in the series too.
This is a captivating mafia romance, with plenty of twists, danger, action, some violence, and sooooooo much more. I fell in love with the characters and their story, but then again, I expected nothing less from Ms. Boyes.
We met Nikolai previously in the series, and I was immediately intrigued by him- but I have to be honest and say that I wasn’t sure I was going to ‘like’ him from what we had seen of him. I didn’t think I could become invested in him or his story- but I WAS SO WRONG!!! Ms. Boyes wove her magic, drawing me into her story and showed me that there is so much more to Nikolai than I had ever expected- and I couldn’t have loved him more than I do. Justine is fantastic, I just love how perfect she is and how wonderful these two are together. There are so many layers, facets and interwoven details throughout this series, little things that you read several books back, end up coming into play in ways you never expected. Brilliant!!!!
I have developed a serious addiction to Ms. Boyes books- and it’s one I’m not about to cure anytime soon!

Running from Demons is the second book in the Chronicles of Andor series by M.K Theodoratus. It is a great urban fantasy- with an action-packed coming of age adventure woven through it. There is magic, danger, demons, discovery, mayhem, drama, mystery, and much more…. This is my first read from Ms. Theodoratus, so I wasn’t entirely sure of what to expect going into the book. The blurb sounded great, and the cover is intriguing- so I took the chance to explore her world…… and now I can say that I am so glad that I did. This story is a great adventure, with interesting characters who swept me into their story and held my attention right till the very end.
We meet Pilar who hasn’t had an easy life. She is an outcast, in her society, a Null- meaning she had no magic in a society where everyone had some sort of ability. Being without her mother for so long now, and the older she gets the more questions she has. So many things she wants to know, secrets that her mother must have kept. So, when an opportunity arises to find some answers, Pilar jumps at the chance and sets off on her quest for answers. But, danger soon catches up with Pilar, and she discovers much more about her world, and herself, than she’d ever bargained for. Will she survive her encounter with demons? Will she find the answers she’s looking for?
There are a lot of characters in this story, and a lot going on- but wasn’t difficult to follow along. I will definitely be reading the third book, “Rendezvous With Demons”- I can’t wait!

Summer Fling by Tarrah Anders is sexy, sweet and fun- an entertaining, heart-warming and light-hearted story that captivated me right from the first page. This standalone is one that you won’t want to miss. I really enjoy Ms. Ander’s writing, she has an easy, inviting and sexy style- and is a very talented storyteller. I have read most of her books now and she never disappoints.
Emma is wary and doesn’t trust men after a bad experience. Her issues mean that she doesn’t date vacationers either, because they don’t stick around after their summer fun. But, her home town is a summer destination and the season is about to start.
Royce is new to town, he’s got plans and wants to put down some roots. (I would love to tell you what brought him to town and why he’s sticking around- but I think it would spoil the surprise). He and Emma meet at a party and spend a drunken night together. What happens when they run into each other a couple of days later? Can he convince her that he’s sticking around long term and gain her trust? Will she give him a chance to prove it? Does their relationship have a future, or will there be an expiration date? And what happens when the past returns to haunt them? So, what does happen, you ask? You really should read all the details for yourself- because this book has so much going for it….. its playful, funny, spicy, romantic, and is a great, feel-good read!
I can’t wait to find out what comes next!

Linda Gets Her Groove Thing is the second book in The Green Room Chronicles series by J.D Frettier. This is a paranormal fantasy, with plenty of laughs along the way. It is funny, cheeky, and entirely entertaining! There story has some supernatural elements, magic, karma, revenge, friendship, body enhancements, and some spice- in this witty romp.
Linda White had her whole world crumble out from under her. All her dreams lay tattered. Her husband cheated on her, left her financially ruined, and then up and died on her before she could get a little revenge. She finds some herself relying on some battery operated stress relief, and had something special in mind for a long haul trip overseas. But, the company has a little mix up and Linda doesn’t get what she wanted. She has a bit of a conniption and ends up in the Green Room. There she meets Dee and Bonnie (Book #1), and hilarity ensues!
As with the first book, the storyline is very original, clever, and quirky. The characters are quite endearing and quirky.
Another light-hearted, fun, and slightly tongue-in-cheek look at the afterlife!

Casstiel is a dragon shifter romance by Sheri-Lynn Marean. This paranormal/fantasy took me on a journey full of love, loss, heartache, emotion, magic, revenge, pain, grief, redemption, action, adventure, and drama. The story is told from several perspectives, which gave an in-depth ‘look’ at what had/was happening. I like that the author provides a glossary at the beginning of the book, to help with all the names- it was handy and informative. There were a lot of characters and realms to get my head around, so the glossary really helped.
Casstiel lost his beloved mate 10 years earlier and he’s been wracked by grief and anger ever since. When she died, killed by their enemy, she severed their bond, so Casstiel couldn’t follow her. He was SUPPOSED to be with her now and he can’t understand why she did what she did. It torments him every day! He isn’t truly living, stuck in the past and unable to move forward. His anger and hatred consume him and his family and friends worry about his state of mind. Something or someone is tether him to the world, and he wants to find them so he can sever the connection. When he finally finds the one responsible for tethering him, she is definitely not what he was expecting. He feels drawn to her and incredibly protective. Now the story gets really interesting!

“I’m so bloody tired of all this. For so long, he’d dreamed of finding the one holding him to life. He’d plotted his revenge, imagining what he was going to do once he finally found her. He would make her pay, make her hurt, just like he hurt. Then he’d break their connection and send her to hell.
It had been all that kept him alive for the last ten years.
But now that he’d met her, he couldn’t do it. No matter what he wanted to believe, she wasn’t some evil sorceress and she looked like she could be blown over by a stiff breeze.”

Ashara Hasn’t had an easy life. She’d been taken from her parents as a small child and forced into slavery. Then when she grew up she was forced to become a ‘breeder’ for the Illium (the enemy). She is a half-breed fire born dragon, but has never known what it’s like to shift into her dragon. She too feels tethered to someone, and the connection has brought her comfort. When she discovers the source of her connection, she’s a little shocked and frightened. Ashara and Cass have endured great loss and carry a lot of pain. These two embark on journey of discovery, filled with passion and pain- and we get to follow along as everything unfolds!
The story is descriptive and detailed, bringing the whole story to ‘life’. Ms. Marean has wonderful world building skills, making her story quite ‘real’ and believable. I really enjoyed exploring her world and look forward to more adventures in the future.

The Kitty Committee: A Novel of Suspense by Kathryn Berla is full of secrets, suspense, mystery, manipulation, haunted memories, torment, and fear. It had a Pretty Little Liars vibe to it.
Grace has been haunted by her past, never fully ‘living, always looking back, worrying, wondering, remembering. Every year she gets a reminder that someone else out there knows what happened, too- and won’t ever let her forget. It’s 20 years on- but she’s stuck in the past. What happened you may ask? What is the burden that she’s carried for all these years? Who knows her secret and sends the yearly reminders? What, and who are The Kitty Committee? All these answers can be found in this suspenseful tale.
I have read all of Ms. Berla’s books now and was really excited to see she had written a suspenseful novel. I love a great suspense, so I quickly snatched up a copy to jump into. The story had a good pace, although it was somewhat slow to get going. The story switches back and forth from past and present perspectives. I spent a good majority of the time torn between needing to know what the secret was, thinking how the dialog didn’t really seem to suit a teenager, absolutely detesting Carly and wondering how no one saw through her, and feeling like the story just wasn’t meshing as well as I had hoped for. And when the big ‘reveal’ came, it felt rushed and wasn’t as detailed as I would have liked, or had expected from Ms. Berla.
This isn’t my most favourite read of hers, which pains me because I normally rally love her work, but I will keep a lookout for her next release.

Must Remember is the first book in the Solum series by Colleen S. Myers. It is a ‘new adult’/science fiction story with a love triangle, action, adventure, aliens, magic, survival, memory loss, and good vs. evil. It is just under 200pages, which made it a quick and easy read.
Elizabeth (Beta) Camden’s world turns upside down- going from being a typical college student one minute, to waking up on an alien world with missing memories, the next. As she is trying to figure out where she is and what’s going on- she runs into a Fost- one of the planets native inhabitants…. And the story takes off from there. She learns about the world she’s on, and little snippets of memories begin to return. She is drawn to two ‘men’- and spends a lot of time trying to decide between the two. There is danger, and a much at stake- a lot rests on her remembering. How did she get there? Why did the aliens abduct her? What do they want? What exactly happened, and why can’t she remember?
First of all, I love the cover! I was drawn to it right away.
Beta’s story was quite interesting, but she did frustrate me a lot with her inner dialogue and indecision. And I usually don’t mind a love triangle in a book, but I felt this one was quite distracting, and it added unwarranted drama and complication to the storyline. #TEAM MARIN…
The world building was on-point, with wonderful descriptions and details. The characters were interesting and original. The story got off to a fantastic start, with a great pace- but did lose some of that momentum in the middle of the book.
I am looking forward to book #2.

Behind the Fan is a wonderful, moving story by Caroline Walken. This is my first read by this author and I am impressed by my first foray into her work. The book is a fascinating story being told by Dottie (Dorothy Kennedy-Denham) who is in her advanced twilight years (100). She has lived a long, rich, colourful, love-filled life…. but has out-lived her friends and her beloved Nicky. Now, her family worry about her health and think it’s best to move her into a nursing home. So, as the packing up commences, memories come flooding back. Soon, discoveries are made- surprising her family in the process. We follow along as her memories unfold- giving us a glimpse of her once glitzy and glamorous world- where burlesque meets mobster. We discover how she meets the love of her life, about her little brother, some history and mob stories, about losing loved ones… and much more.
The book is an emotional, heart-warming and memorable tale from a gorgeous faded-flower, who is finding comfort in her memories, and whose legacy is about making the most out of life!

I Am Kimberly Cole is a new, gripping story from R.G Miller. It is a psychological thriller with a supernatural/paranormal overtone to it. There is plenty of suspense, heart-pounding events, and twists- that had me guessing the whole way through. This is a short story- but in no way was lacking in intensity. It is one of those stories that I feel you are better off going into blind and let the author and the story speak for themselves.
Another great read from Mr. Miller- I wonder what he has in store for us next?

Uncommon Sacrifice is the sixth book in the War Girls Series by Marion Kummerow. I didn’t realise when I picked up the book that it was number 6 in her series. Having said that, this book can be read as a stand-alone, but I am intrigued enough by what I’ve read to want to go back and explore the other books too.
This is an historical fiction, WWII story- with, sacrifices, resilience, strength, determination, friendship, family bonds, love, and drama. The hope of escape and freedom that captives in the war camps hold in their hearts to help them endure.
Two brothers held captive- one badly injured and relying on the other to survive- the other with a chance to escape to freedom, but that would mean leaving his brother behind to face probable death. What decision does he make? Can Peter leave Stan behind, in order to save himself? Or will he sacrifice his own freedom, for his brother?
A very emotional, well written and thought-provoking read. The characters really made the story for me. It was entirely realistic, relatable, and believable!
I will definitely be reading more of Ms. Kummerow’s series in the near future!

Fisher of Men is the first book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This book is a wonderful, interesting and informative contemporary romance that explores the world of swinging- and what happens when a minister’s daughter meets a sexy swinger.
To many, this story may seem way out of your comfort zone, but I encourage you to keep an open mind and dive in, because you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find between the covers of this beautiful story. Yes, this book does have the swinging element to it, and while that is an important part of the plot, there is so much more to this wonderful love story. I love how Ms. Alexander blended the swinging lifestyle of our leading male character, with the religious/spiritual beliefs of our leading female character; then sprinkled some emotion, curiosity, struggles, drama, acceptance, passion, erotica, and angst into the mix- and produced a fantastic, well balanced and sex-positive story that drew me in right from the get-go.
This book is nothing like I thought it would be, and was deeper, sweeter and more meaningful than I had expected.
Another great read from this superb author!

The Violet Trilogy by Vivian Winslow is Violet Rai’s story. It is books #7, #8, and #9 in the Gilded Flower Series. Her story really gives us an insight into the life of Lily and Dahlia’s BFF who completely intrigued me in the other books. She is quick-witted, intelligent, and a fun-loving party girl. But there were little things that I needed to know, some things that were alluded to but never explored, that had me wondering with so many questions- and I knew there was so much more to her story than what we were being shown/told.

This trilogy explores her world, pulling me into a tale that was so much more than I had expected. There were so many unexpected and surprising developments- twists that made me sit up and take notice, captivating me the whole while. It is a passionate story full of drama, friendship, daddy issues, romance, sizzle, flashbacks, secrets, challenges, plots, unlikely ally’s, intrigue, lies- and a rollercoaster of emotion. This box set contains the entire Violet Trilogy, so not only is it great value for money, but there is no wait between Violets books/story.

Ms. Winslow guides us through the story, painting a vivid picture, while we follow along as everything plays out. We watch all the highs and lows- discovering what makes Violet tic- all the secrets she’s held, all about her difficult relationship with her father and his plans for an arranged marriage, her hopes and fears, the fact there is an expectation that she will also embark on a career within her father’s multinational conglomerate and how she feels about it all. Then there’s the sizzling details of her romantic liaisons which really steamed up the screen of my kindle; as well as looking at her friendships with Lily, Dahlia and Thomas, some secrets are uncovered, and revelations made, and Violet faces challenges that will test her…. and so much more that you won’t want to miss out on!

 

The trilogy consists of:

– Wild Violet (Book #7)

– Hidden Violet (Book #8)

– True Violet (Book #9)

 

This trilogy could be read as a standalone, but there are relevant details, background information, and backstory to be found in the previous books that would enrich your reading experience of thiss story- plus there are parts of the plot that intersects with and plays out alongside storylines from previous books…. So, I really recommend reading the entire series, in sequence, to get the full impact of the story!

Phoenix Rising is the seventh book in the Fortis Security Series by Maddie Wade. This is a romantic suspense- with action, adventure, emotion, danger, thrills, intrigue, mystery, special ops, secrets, loss, guilt, grief, camaraderie, belonging, drama, second chances, intense chemistry, facing fears, and romance. But, let’s face it, Ms. Wade had me at the mention of Daniel Thompson- I have been intrigued by him and his story since meeting him back in book one. So, I was excited to get my hand on this book, reading avidly right from the very first page, till the last word. I was completely hooked- I read it in one sitting and loved every word.
I have loved everything about this series, with each book outdoing the one before it- this book has become my favourite out of the series so far- but then I have said that about every book, they are all sooo good. This could be read as a standalone, but I really recommend reading the previous books to get all the relevant backstory and character introductions that will give you a better understanding of the series and characters, and will enhance your reading experience- not to mention that the other six books are fantastic stories in their own right/s.
This story picks up where Arctic Fire (Book #6) left off, and centres on Daniel Thompson who is an Ex-SAS Commander and the second in charge of Fortis Security. He is a widower and single father to his adorable daughter Paige. Daniel has had more than his fair share of heartache, carrying the burden of guilt and pain over the death of his wife. He is a man of few words, an alpha with a fiercely protective streak. His number one priority is to ensure his daughter stays safe, and to find a way to avenge his wife’s murder. He isn’t interested in a relationship, focusing on his family and ‘job’. So, he is totally unprepared for the effect that his best friend’s younger sister would have on him.
Megan Bennett is a brilliant doctor (scientist) who is coming to terms with being reunited with her loving family after more than 20 years of forced separation. She was raised by a horrible, vile woman- but thanks to Fortis Security who extracted her, she has is now back with her true family. She has had trouble adjusting- never having experienced a loving family environment, belonging, or love. She feels that Daniel is the only one who truly sees ‘her’- and he has captured her heart. But there are secrets that jeopardises everything she holds dear. What does the future hold for her and Daniel?
Ms. Wade certainly doesn’t do things by halves, and she certainly makes her characters ‘work’ for any happiness- there were points where I think ‘How much more can they take?”- Daniel and Megan have been through so much, and again in this story they both will be tested. As with every book of Ms. Wade’s that I read, she held the tension, intrigue and suspense at an elevated level throughout the book- and kept me guessing most of the way through- she expertly added twists and surprises that also ramped it up a few more notches. I adored the ending, and that epilogue is everything!!!
This is a quick (180pgs), easy and fast-paced read, and is a superb addition to the captivating series!
I can’t wait to read Digital Desire, the next book in the series!

Degrees of Innocence is the first book in the Prestian series, and debut novel by Via Mari. It is a romantic suspense that’s full of action, danger, secrets, hidden agendas, humour, and some mystery.
Katerina Meilers (Kate) is a design consultant who has has been hired to help design a new state of the art medical facility in Chicago. As part of the planning process the whole team has been flown to Aruba where they will spend the week on a brainstorming and design forum. Kate has arrived a few days ahead of time to get things set up and ready for the coming week. An unusual crisis on her first night on the island introduces her to a very sexy and charming man who she can’t stop thinking about. They end up having dinner together the next night and exploring the island. The chemistry between them is electric. She thinks there may just be a chance at finding something special with him. So, imagine her surprise to find on Monday morning as the team assembles and introductions are made, to find the man of her dreams is the billionaire owner of the Corporation that has hired her for this project. She doesn’t date colleagues, let alone her boss- ever. But what happens when dangerous situations occur that seem to target Kate specifically? Has it got something to do with chase and his ‘business’? Or is it something more sinister?
This was a really great story that easily pulled me in and kept me engrossed the whole way through. I loved the chemistry between these two, Ms. Mari built the tension beautifully. The same with the suspense- she definitely had me guessing and trying to figure out what was happening. The only thing that thought could do with a little improvement is that the sex scenes, particularly the first 75%, seemed quite awkward- like the author felt quite uncomfortable about writing them. The language used in those scenes also didn’t match the rest of the book and seemed a little old fashioned. It did improve a towards the end, so maybe the author was gaining confidence. It seemed to be a bit of a teething problem which will hopefully get better over time…. I hope that is the case for the rest of the books in the series (which are all available now).
Also, there were some points in the story where the transitions seemed a little abrupt, clipped or stilted- but again I am putting that down to the author ‘finding her feet’. The story itself is really great and I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

Charlotte is the seventh book in the Dr. Richard’s Littles series by Pepper North. I will admit that this book isn’t something that I would normally read, but it showed up on my feed and curiosity got the better of me. This is part of a series that focuses on characters in the ‘littles’ community, those that ‘age play’ and immerse themselves in that lifestyle. Age play is where an adult chooses to live their life as an infant, a toddler, a child, or a teenager- and have another adult as their care giver, playing the part of their mother or father. This book/series also explores the reasons why someone might choose to become a little or a caregiver. Because this is my first read from this author I can’t say what the other books in the series are about, but this book contained romance, some drama, kink, and graphic/erotic sex scenes.

Charlotte is a college graduate of interior design, but has struggled to find work in her field. Things are getting desperate and she really needs to find a job- this leads her to a cashier’s position at Gordon’s (a store that caters to the Littles community)- where she meets Benton and a whole ‘new’ world opens up before her.

I loved meeting Charlotte and Benton- this is definitely a character driven plot- that has a sweet story as well. Although not my usual fare, I am happy I kept an open mind and explored the Littles world. I would definitely read another of Ms. North’s books again, she writes really well- and there are over 20 in this series to choose from.

A quick and easy read!

My Fake Vegas Boyfriend by Lori Sizemore was a great find for me. Ms. Sizemore is a new to me author whose book piqued my curiosity when it showed up on my feed. I loved the idea that it is set in Las Vegas in 1958. I wasn’t sure if I would really like it and was a little worried that it may feel a bit dated, but I needn’t have worried as Ms. Sizemore delivered a captivating story, with wonderful characters that I really loved reading. The book is an ‘unexpected romance’ story, that has blackmail, drama, twists, secrets, the hand of fate, and so much more. This is the first book in a new series, and if this book is anything to go by, not only is it off to a great start but it looks set to be superb.

Layla Rosas hasn’t had things easy- a cheating ex-fiancé, a horrible self-centred mother, self-destructive coping methods, and a father who thinks the best way to help her with all that is to place her in an asylum. She is desperate to find a way to prevent that from happening, but how? But, she may have just stumbled on a way out her predicament when she snaps a photo of a well-known celebratory in a compromising situation. Because, that snapshot brings handsome chief of security, Jace Russel to her doorstep looking to ‘destroy’ the evidence for his influential client. So what if she has to resort to blackmail to convince him to ‘help’ her. Can she can ‘persuade’ him to be her fake boyfriend for long enough to get her parents off her back, and keep her from being placed in the asylum? What happens when feelings become involved? This book is well worth the read to find out!

I am also excited to have found another author to add to my author list- I am even happier because I discovered that Ms. Sizemore has many more books in her inventory which I will enjoy exploring ASAP.

Rescued by the Spy is the second book in the Romancing the Spies series by Laura A. Barnes. It is an intriguing and action-packed historical romance that has kidnapping, romance, mystery, suspense, adventure, drama, revenge, espionage, treason, disguises, secrets, and lies. This is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone, although this book focuses on a different couple than the first book, I do recommend reading book one as there is a tie in/crossover/continuation to the storyline. I have really enjoyed exploring this series of period pieces, as Ms. Barnes excels in bringing the past to life and creating characters who are so easy to love.

Raina LeClair is not your typical demure young lady- oh no, there really is so much more to her than she lets on. She and Charles Mallory have an intriguing history that will propel this story into a fast-paced adventure that had me hooked right from the beginning. Where the story leads, and the surprising developments really made for a very entertaining and enjoyable read.

I have already begun devouring book #3, which looks set to be incredible!

A Monster Like Me is the second and concluding instalment in the Heart of Darkness Duology by Pamela Sparkman. It is an incredibly good paranormal fantasy, full of despair, revenge, lies, secrets, depression, choices, fate, life and death, action, danger, drama, adventure, battles, tests, friendship, redemption, and forgiveness.

Because this is the second part of a duology, I really recommend reading the first instalment before you begin this one, as there are important facts and backstory that will enhance your overall reading experience of this book.

There are some emotional details of a sensitive nature, but the author doesn’t use them gratuitously, she is careful, but also realistic about it. It made my heart ache. There are quite a lot of touching scenes also, and the depiction of the friendships, and banter really made me smile and warmed my heart. There was also tension, suspense, and heart-stopping details that sent me scrambling, flipping pages as I read along to find out how things would work out. The story is really well written, and Ms. Sparkman managed to shade the story really well, giving it true balance- blending both darkness and light into the storyline.

The characters are just fantastic- fully developed individuals who are original, complex, flawed, and a little quirky. Zeph is the perfect example of an anti-hero, and when I embarked on this book I wasn’t entirely sure how I would feel about him at the end of the story, I wasn’t sure I could like him- But he really did win me over, and his story is quite compelling. I loved the other secondary characters too, although I feel they all played important rolls in the story, helping the story to flow and grow….and adding extra interest. I love Arwyn, she is amazing, and the connection she has with Zeph is everything…..

I read the book completely engrossed in the wonderful world that Ms. Sparkman ingeniously created. I was swept into this action-packed adventure, hanging on every word- there was a lot at stake (including my heart)- I could see and feel, the blood sweat, tears, joy, emotion, heart, and soul, that Ms. Sparkman put into her creation….. and I. Loved. Every. Single. Word!!!

I am excited to see what she will do next!

These powers were as varied as the animals that guided them.”

 

Shifter’s Pride is the second book in the Spirit Walker Thriller series by Laura Hawks. This is a paranormal murder mystery, with suspense, drama, action, adventure, romance, danger, a stalker, supernatural elements, shifters, and some Native American culture and history. As with the other books in this series, this can be read as a standalone. This story is quite intriguing, with several threads playing out through it. The characters are well developed and interesting. I loved how there was more to them and the story than is initially apparent. Ms. Hawks has a confident, creative, descriptive and inviting style- which brings her stories to life in a very believable way. I really love the American Indian history and cultural details she includes in her stories- it makes the book even more fascinating.

The storyline moves between the past and present- visiting the 1800’s, World War II, then back to the present, again.

I wonder what Ms. Hawks has in store for us next?

Won’t Let You Down is the eighth book in the Cedarville Novel Series by Bree Kraemer. This series seems to get better with each new instalment, and that’s saying something, especially since I was convinced that I wouldn’t like this book, because I didn’t think I liked Joy. Well, I was wrong- I should never have doubted Ms. Kraemer! This story is even better than I could have imagined. There was so much more to the character/s than I thought I knew. This is my favourite of the series so far- a story full of loss, heartache, new beginnings, changes, second chances, love, romance, emotion…. and spice!
Even though it is the eighth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing vital information or getting confused. The story has an identity, energy, feel and flavour all its own- but still fits well with the rest of the books in the series. I love the fact that each book in the Cedarville family focuses on a particular couple- but there are recurring characters, who may have their own book, and who we have met previously, who make appearances though each book, allowing us to catch up with them, as well as enjoying the main ‘event’.
I thought I ‘knew’ Joy, and she hadn’t impressed me at all…. But as I followed along I soon realised that I didn’t really know her as well as I thought I did. I got a new perspective and ended up loving her, especially since she and Flynn were so perfect together! Flynn is just such a good guy, sexy, sweet, patient, and very understanding. He knew what he wanted and wasn’t going to settle for anything else, determined to prove that he wouldn’t let her down!
Can’t wait for more of Cedarville!

The Dahlia Trilogy by Vivian Winslow is the enticing story that introduces us to Dahlia Baron, Lily’s twin sister (The Lily Trilogy Books #1-3) as we set off on a captivating journey full of drama, love, heartache, betrayal, complicated family dynamics, sizzle, secrets, choices, determination, and righting wrongs. This box set contains the entire Dahlia Trilogy, which are also books/s #4, #5, and #6 in the Gilded Flower Series.

 

The trilogy consists of:

-Blue Dahlia (Book #4 of the Gilded Flower Trilogies Series)

-Black Dahlia (Book #5 of the Gilded Flower Trilogies Series)

-Red Dahlia (Book #6 of the Gilded Flower Trilogies Series)

 

As always, with Ms. Winslow’s work, I really loved this trilogy, even more than the first, which I didn’t’ think would be possible. But each book seems to outdo the last and the whole series is fitting together beautifully. I was so immersed int the story that I read the entire series in one sitting (it’s not a particularly long set of books). The story is really well-developed, beautifully written, and emotional- and the character/s are created wonderfully well, complete with their own personalities, quirks and flaws.

Wish I Had A Nickel is the second book in The Sand Dollar Series by J.D. Boudreaux. I recommend reading book one before starting on this one, because it will give you a better perspective of this story and the ‘feel’ for the series as a whole. There are also other relevant details contained in book one because there is a bigger picture being ‘painted’- so having all the information is important. I enjoyed this book more than the first and it was apparent that the author was more ‘comfortable/confident’ writing this book. I do like the characters, they are interesting and likeable. There is a little more to them than first meets the eye. The story spans many topics from friendship, love, family, expectations, second chances, fate, and more. The story is set to continue in book #3, The Broken Sand Dollar, which releases in February 2019.

I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here.
