Player is the first book in the 21st Century Courtesan Series by Pamela DuMond. Ms. DuMond is a new-to-me author that I wish I had discovered sooner. This story really had so much going on in it. The multi-layered storyline took me on a ride that I won’t soon forget. It’s original, suspenseful, mysterious, sexy, and dramatic- which made for quite a captivating read.
Evelyn Berlinger (Evie) is an empath who had quite a tumultuous childhood, with one particularly tragic event shattering her young existence. Because of this tragedy she suppressed her empathic abilities- shutting them down and tried to get on with her life. Since reaching adulthood, she has taken financial responsibility for her family, which put a heavy strain on her and her bank account. So, when the opportunity comes to earn some extra money- Evie has to give it serious consideration. But working for the Ma Maison Agency as a high priced escort is not without its own issues.
Things get really interesting when she’s assigned a new client, Dylan McAlister, who awakens her empathic abilities. With a powerful attraction, and intense chemistry surging between them, Evie feels like she’s known him forever. But Dylan is a bit of a broken man, with his life crumbling around him. Evie is in a position to help him heal, using her unique skills to get the crux of his problem- if he’ll let her. But with family dramas, and a creepy ‘fan’, things are never going to be quite that simple.

Her ‘awakening’ takes her on a bit of a cross-country adventure where she not only learns a lot about her client, but also about herself.
I loved following Evie through the story, she really is a wonderfully complex and endearing character- and I found myself rooting for her the whole way through. I loved Dylan and thought that they were perfect together. There were a few characters that I hated, but I think that was Ms. DuMond’s intent.
This book has made me an insta-fan of Ms. DuMond, and of this series- I really can’t wait for the second book, Movie Star’, to be released, so I can continue the story.

Truly Unfortunate is the first book in the Welcome to Knollville Series by C.A King. It is a spooky, slightly dark, paranormal thriller. Another superb read from the talented Ms. King. She never fails to deliver a fantastic story and always hooks me right from the get-go.
This story is a little different from most of her other reads, but still entirely original, well written, and given the same attention to detail and polish, that she gives all her stories.
Truly can’t remember a huge portion of her life, and it’s assumed by the doctors who’ve treated her, that she must have repressed something terrible, which has caused the memory blockage. Try as she might, she can’t recall anything. But, it’s more than that, nothing seems to work out for her either. When she begins to have disturbing visions, and people start dying- she really starts to wonder.
Jeff is the local police officer and loves his job. He’d always known he’d become a policeman, galvanized by a tragic event back when he was nine. When strange things start happening and bodies start turning up, he will need to think outside the box to connect the dots to figure out what’s going on.
There was definitely more to this story, and character/s than first met the eye. My review is a little vague on purpose, because I don’t want to give anything away. I recommend going in to the book blind and just let the story surprise you. This was nothing like what I was expecting, but in a good way. This is a wonderfully twisted tale that pushes the boundaries of reality, and really kept me questioning what was going on.
Another great read from Ms. King’s limitless imagination!

Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in The Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. This is my first read from Ms. Scott, and even though this book could be read as a standalone, there were characters and references to past events, that I felt I should have known about. It didn’t detract from this story, but it did pique my curiosity to read the other books and find out what happens in them, too. This is a romantic suspense, with mystery, suspense, second chances, some action, drama, and so much more. The story is quite intriguing, and I found myself throwing around various scenarios in my mind, trying to put all the pieces together and work out what was going on. The mystery and suspense were done really well done and kept the momentum of the story going.
Samantha Dylan is the manager at “Sweet Stuff” bakery, she is an outgoing, likeable, and optimistic person who hasn’t had much luck in the relationship department, having just broken up with her cheating fiancé (ex). At 35 she feels her biological clock ticking and has begun to worry that she may never get her chance to experience motherhood, especially since she wasn’t getting any younger. When a grumpy, prickly man enters the bakery for a cup of coffee and something to eat, little did she know just how much her world would be turned upside down.
Jace Colton is a writer, a former investigative reporter who has just made his way ‘home’ after 5 long years travelling. He is haunted by a tragedy that forced him to flee- he had delved too deeply into a story and got too close to some very dangerous information which painted a target on his back. He’s been living off the grid, always on the move, never staying anywhere for any length of time- with only his dog Martin for company. But now he’s been drawn home- because he thinks he has what he needs to finally lay his past to rest, once and for all.

“He accelerated with timidity, not wanting to do this, but knowing he must. The past required a showdown. Pistols or swords at dawn.”

The last thing he expected was to meet someone who made him feel ‘alive’ again for the first time in 5 years. But, with a target on his back, anyone who associated with him could also be in danger. What happens when the danger he’s been running from finally catches up with him?
This was a very interesting story that is wonderfully detailed and descriptive. It’s told from several points of view which gives the reader a real immersive reading experience. The tension, suspense and drama were crafted really well and kept me flipping the pages to keep up with what was happening and piecing the puzzle together.
I’m off to explore the other two books now!

Imperfect Heart is the fourth book in the Combat Hearts Series by Tarina Deaton. This series really is soooo good, and just seems to get better with each new instalment. I was excited to get my hands on this book, but also a little sad to discover that it’s the final instalment in this fantastic series. Although this can be read as a standalone, I really recommend the other books in this series too- as they are wonderful stories in their own rights.
I had high expectations for this book, especially after learning it was the last in the series, so I am incredibly happy to say that Ms. Deaton didn’t let me down- it was every bit as good as I hoped it would be. Ms. Deaton certainly knows how to entice her readers into a story and hold their interest the whole way through. It is very easy to become emotionally invested in her character/s and their wonderful stories- and this book was no different.
Zoe Acevedo has left the Air Force to fulfil her dream of opening her own bookstore. She’s strong, determined, and quite independent- but definitely has no filter. This is her ‘new beginning’ after 13 years in the military- leaving her cheating ex, and family problems behind. She’s frustrated that her hunky neighbour keeps finding her in awkward situations. Too bad she doesn’t have time for any distractions, even one as sexy as he is.
Tim Larkin is a local police officer and brother of Jase (Book #1). He won me over right away, he’s so swoony. When his sexy new neighbour moved in, he didn’t expect to have to come to her rescue. But he’s just doing his job, right? Protect and serve- that’s what he does, right? Plus, there is a mutual attraction simmering between them? Will their chemistry finally ignite? What happens when disaster strikes? What does the future hold? You’ll need to read this superb story to find out.

Can’t Forget is the second book in the Solum series by Colleen S. Myers. It is a new adult, science fiction story with action, adventure, aliens, magic, revenge, romance, and drama. This follows on from book #1, so I really recommend reading the first book before starting on this one, in order to appreciate the story better.
As we discovered in the first book, Elizabeth (Beta) Camden went from being a typical college student one minute, to waking up on an alien world, the next. She is thrust into a fight for survival, with much at stake. But not without finding herself in the middle of a love triangle.
This book sees Beta in love with Marin (#teamMarin), but the E’mani aren’t going to give up easily and so Beta finds, once again, that danger isn’t far away. But this time she’s determined to take the fight to them. But will this rash decision place the one she loves in the crosshairs? Can she forget the past, in order to embrace the future?
A great addition to the series, and just as good as the first book. Beta did develop and grow through the story, but she did frustrate me by trying to handle things by herself, arrrggggh!
As with the first book, the world building is excellent, with wonderful descriptions and details. The characters were well crafted, interesting and original. This was a little unpredictable, with surprising developments that kept things interesting.

My Tragic Life is a Brothers of Camelot series prequel and the second book in My Life series by Necie Navone. I love this series so much! It has everything you could want in a captivating read. There’s action, friendship, grief, loss, camaraderie, longing, suspense, emotion, playful teasing, funny banter, and a lot of drama- in this bloody and somewhat violent, coming of age story, with a twist. It really reminds me of “La Femme Nikita” in a lot of ways- which I also love about it. I think this series would make a brilliant television series or telemovie!!
After the riveting events in the last book I devoured this one in a matter of hours because I just HAD to know what happened next. This story picks up 9 months after the shocking event/s at her 15th birthday- and the action starts up pretty much right away. We get a lot more of Aless’s thrilling story- and I. LOVED. EVERY. MINUTE.
To recap what’s happened in the previous book- Alessandra Canzano was born into an Italian crime family, the only child of the powerful and ruthless Capo (boss). She is their Princess, treated as royalty and living a fairytale life- until her sixth birthday where gunmen attack, wounding her and changing her life forever.
Her father had big plans for her, but after the events on her sixth birthday, he becomes even more controlling and obsessive. Alessandra’s beloved Uncle Louie was tasked with training her- so from the age of six she learnt hand to hand combat, and at eight she began weapons training- and she was to tell no one of her training, or the reasons behind it- keeping that part of her life hidden from her other family, and friends.
Here, Aless has kept up with her training and is now a formidable fighter, proficient in both weaponry, as well as hand to hand combat. The events of the last book have strained her relationship with her father and she doesn’t think they will ever recover what they once had. But when danger threatens those she cares about, Aless is forced to embrace her training in order to keep them all safe. What ensues makes for some really exciting, emotional, and gripping reading. But Aless never wanted this life, she dreams of a normal life, free from her gilded cage. She’s determined to find a way to make this happen. Aless seems so mature for her age, I had to keep reminding myself that she was only a teenager (as we follow her story from ages 15, 16 and 17).
As I’ve said before, Ms. Navone is a wonderful wordsmith, weaving a superb story that plucked at my heart strings, and had me on the edge of my seat. She brought the story and characters to life, easily pulling me into her world and keeping me enthralled right through till the end. The story is told from several POV’s which gave the story an extra element of interest.

Courage is the second book in The Sisterhood Series by Chelsi Arnold. It is a military action/adventure story that’s set in the future. I highly suggest reading the first book “Brave”, as it really builds the foundations for the series, gives character introductions, and provides a lot of the backstory to this book…. so having all that information would enhance our reading experience of this book.
We met Greer in the first book- it’s 2023, times have changed and the 25 year old is among the first women to be drafted and into the military- a first in United States history, and it’s also the first time the Draft has been used since the Vietnam War. World war three has broken out, chaos abounds, Isis is striking the heart of America as well as other places all around the world, and police services are stretched beyond their limits. News broadcasts share all the grim details- which Greer and her family watch with much sadness and horror. Greer is completely outraged and ultimately decides to fight for what she believes in, for what she feels is right. But when things turn sour on a secret mission, Greer’s loyalties are put to the test and she’s forced to make the choice between her teammates lives or defying her orders. The consequences of which bring us to this instalment.
This book picks up the storyline and are still coming to terms with the events from their last mission. Losing a team member has cut them to the core. They are fueled by thoughts of avenging her death. But there is a slight glitch to their plans. Suspension. Having to stand back and watch while chaos ensues only makes them all the more determined. What happens you ask? Well, I really recommend reading the book to discover all the gripping details for yourself!
A great story about sisterhood, friendship, loyalty, bravery, honour, patriotism, and sacrifice.

Dangerous Ground is the latest instalment in the Under Ground series by Alice Rachel. It is a Dystopian story where social classes and draconian laws are in force and where food shortages, sickness, and danger are an ever-growing problem. This is Chase and Tina’s story- and it shook me and left me reeling. The story is absolutely heartbreaking in places- this book is so much heavier and more intense than the other books in the series and I was left feeling wrung out afterwards. It’s so full of emotion- with loss, grief, substance abuse, survival, and depression playing a large part of the story. But there’s also action, drama and suspense woven through the storyline. Because of the content of the storyline, I wouldn’t recommend this to younger readers, it’s definitely one for 17/18 years and older.
This is a full length novel with lots of interconnected details, characters and information. It is definitely NOT a standalone and should be read as part of the series. Once again Alice Rachel has produced a wonderfully described and vividly detailed story that takes us on a raw, gritty and riveting ride. This book is a little different from the others- having already mentioned the more mature content and the ‘heavier’ storyline, but this story has so many chapters, a lot of which are very quick- but there are so many short scenes, much like flashes of information that we get along the way in this story, which builds a much bigger picture than what I had been expecting.
I am still thinking about the story, about what happened and how it made me feel, long after finishing reading it!
That ending made me sit up and take notice, that’s for sure! I am both excited to see what the next instalment has in store for us (and the Character), and also a little sad- because it will be the conclusion to this fantastic series!

Neverland is a thrilling story by Melissa Jane. This is quite gripping story about a dark and twisted obsession that takes the reader on a chilling journey full of danger, shocking abuse, sweet love, heart-stopping details, bigotry, hopelessness, desperation, rage, deprivation, fear, secrets, threats, heartache, and mind boggling twists. I was definitely on the edge of my seat with this read- scrambling to keep up with what was going on and trying to figure out what would happen before anything was revealed. I failed miserably. I could not have predicted that outcome and am still reeling from that shocking ending!
I am not even going to try to cover what happens in the book, I think you really are best diving in and reading it blind. There is a reason the blurb is a little vague- and you’ll understand once you finish reading the story. This is definitely one of those “what the fu-dge did I just read” kind of books. It definitely isn’t a fluffy, heart-and-flowers read! So be warned. There are confronting situations, brutal scenes, sad and depressing elements that were all wrapped up in an intense and twisted tale of obsession and captivity. The story sucked the life right out of me, completely sucked me dry- BUT I’d do it all over again!!! The story twists and turns, and really kept me guessing as to how it would all play out. Melissa Jane tormented her character/s, put them trough the fires of hell- more than once!! I kept wondering how much more they would have to endure! Pulse pounding reading that’s for sure.
Be warned, this story is not for the feint of heart, it will definitely chew you up and spit you out! Melissa Jane is already on my “Must Read” authors list, and I’m now waiting expectantly for her next book

Bound by Blood is the third book in the Crescent City Wolf Pack series by Carrie Pulkinen. It could be read as a standalone, but seriously, do yourself a real favour and read the other two books, because they are spectacular! You really won’t regret it!
As I’ve said with each of the previous two books, I am completely in LOVE with this series, I have devoured each one in a matter of hours- glued to the pages from beginning till end- torn, in that I really had to know what happened, but at the same time not wanting the book(s) to end. I really couldn’t choose a favourite from the three (so far) because they are all brilliant in their own right- each one having its own identity and ‘flavour’, but also, because they all blend together to paint a much bigger (overall) picture, while complimenting the other books in the series at the same time.
This (and the series) is a great paranormal romance- with shifters/werewolves, witches, the supernatural, mystery, suspense, danger, action, murder, drama, secrets, shocking discoveries, and emotion. As with the first two books- the story unfolds against the vibrant and mystical backdrop of New Orleans.
Alexis Gentry is a rogue werewolf, a drifter, who has had such a hard life that her experiences have left her with trust issues and caused her to build a protective barrier around herself, one she won’t let anyone through- not even her little sister who she’s finally reunited with after 20 years. She is skittish, stubborn, and quite mysterious. She hasn’t had much luck when it’s come to relationships, as she always seems to pick men who’ve only brought her trouble and grief. So, she’s sworn off men and relationships. But, after meeting her sister’s work partner, she can’t stop thinking about him, and he brings out a sense of longing in her that has her questioning everything she thought she wanted. When her latest job goes sour, she quickly realises that she’s gotten in way over her head, and can’t seem to see a way out of her dangerous predicament- not without taking some drastic, desperate action- which results with her in hospital, needing to lay low for a while.
Bryce Samuels has just gotten a promotion to Sergeant and put in the position as a negotiator- which is something he’s aspired to ever since joining the Force- saving lives is all he’s ever wanted to do. He’s really good at his job and has a natural instinct that gives him a bit of an edge over some of the other officers. He’s definitely not the settling down type, earning a reputation as an arrogant flirt who doesn’t do relationships. But in fact, there’s a lot more to him, which we discover as the story progresses. Bryce was captivated by Alexis from the moment he set eyes on her and would love to get to know her better. But he soon discovers that she quite the flighty one. When his latest case brings him to the hospital to check on the welfare of his neighbour, Bryce find Alexis has been admitted in a pretty battered state. Concern for her wellbeing has him offering her a safe place to stay until she gets back on her feet. Alexis is quite suspicious of his motives, no one does something for nothing- there is always a price to pay. Isn’t there? But things aren’t adding up, which raises Bryce’s suspicions and has him questioning everything, and puts his detective skills to the test.
What happened to put Alexis in hospital? Will she take Bryce up on his offer? What happens when danger catches up with Alexis and places them both in peril? Can Alexis learn to trust? What happens when Bryce learns the truth? Alexis was so used to taking off when things get complicated, spending her whole life running- will she finally decide to stick around, put down some roots and take a chance on love? Bryce lives his life to the letter of the law, upholding the law with every fibre of his being- what will he do if a few laws need to be broken in order to protect the one/s he cares about?
I must admit that I really didn’t know if I would really like Alexis as she seemed quite mysterious and somewhat aloof in the previous two books. But, the more I learned about her, and what she’d been through to make her who she is, made me really feel for her and understand her so much better. She did grow on me and by the end of the book I was definitely #teamAlexis. She did frustrate me at times, especially with her lack of communication, and the tendency to let her pride/ego rule. Bryce had already won me over in previous books- even though we knew very little about him, I liked him anyway. Getting to know him so completely in this book, just cemented my feelings.
As with the previous book, I spent the majority of this one on the edge of my seat, wondering how things would play out! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!
James’ story is next…. Can’t wait!

Mad About Matt is the first book in the Red Maple Falls series by Theresa Paolo. It is a second chance at love romance, and my first read from this author. This story is a familiar recipe but done quite well by Ms. Paolo. It’s a small-town romance that’s just as sweet as cherry pie- cute, with a dash of mystery and suspense, new beginnings, and a sprinkle of drama.
Shay Matthews and Matt Hayes have a history that takes them back 17 years. They were so close, then circumstances separated them and kept them apart all these years. Shay has moved back to town looking for a fresh start and opened her own bakery, “Sweet Dreams”. Life is going according to plan, until her bakery is broken into, which brings Matt on the scene, as he’s the local Sheriff. They butt heads, and sparks fly. What ensues makes for a light and entertaining read.
Even though this is a tried and tested recipe, Ms. Paolo puts her own stamp on it. It is a great book to read if you want something sweet and light-hearted. It was entertaining, if not a little predictable. But that didn’t detract too much from the overall story. It was a little slow in places, especially around the middle of the book, where it seemed to lag quite a bit. I also felt that the sex scenes didn’t match the rest of the story- they seemed a bit rushed in some cases, just awkward, or brushed over. This wasn’t a ‘deal-breaker’ for me, but definitely something that stood out from the rest of the book, and invariably pulled me out of the story.
The characters were realistic- interesting enough to keep me reading, and quite likeable. But there were times that Shay really frustrated me. For a girl who had lived in New York City, you’d think she’d be a little more security conscious and take the necessary measures! I hated her mother, she was quite a piece of work!
This book is the first in a series of standalones that introduce us to the six members of the Hayes family- 3 brothers and 3 sisters, who each get their own book. I will be reading the other books to see what’s in store for the characters, and for us!

Say When Is the ninth book in the Cedarville novel series by Bree Kraemer. Even though it is the ninth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone without feeling like you are missing vital information or leaving you confused. I love the fact that each book in the Cedarville ‘family’ focuses on a particular couple- but there are recurring characters, who we have met previously, who make appearances, which really gives this book a charming quality. I really enjoy Ms. Kraemer’s writing- she always weaves a wonderful story that entices me in and keeps hold of me right through to the end. This series just seems to get better with each new instalment, not losing momentum or appeal. The characters are so well crafted that they bring the whole story to life. This is definitely one of my favourites of the series, and I really wanted to hang out with them and eat cupcakes ?.
Dani, who we have met previously, as she bakes the desserts for Wes’s restaurant “Dockside” (After All These Years- Book #7) is so quiet, introverted and chronically shy that it has held her back from truly living and following her dreams. This fear has almost taken over her life, and Dani will have to learn to face her fears and overcome them in order to have a ‘real’ life. She’s passionate about baking and always has been- she’s an extremely talented baker who creates incredibly delicious morsels. Across From You is a hilarious romantic comedy by Amabel Daniels. It has humour, misadventures, funny banter and antics, a sprinkle of drama, and a lot of fun.
Ms. Daniels is on my ‘must read author’s list’. So, when I saw this book, I didn’t hesitate, grabbed myself a copy and dove right in. Compared to her other books that I’ve read, this one seemed a little slower to get going, but then the pace picked up a few chapters in and the story took off from there and flowed much better. From that moment on, I was along for the ride, laughing out loud at what was happening. I really enjoyed getting to know these wonderful characters, as Ms. Daniels creates interesting and well-developed individuals that are so easy to like.
Lexi Regan swore off men after getting dumped via social media and having the post go viral. She doesn’t like being in that kind of spotlight and is determined to take a break from the dating scene. When her best friend Carly wants to drag her out to an art class, Lexi really couldn’t be bothered, but goes anyway just to shut her up. Then she discovers that it’s a ‘life drawing’ class with a live model. She wasn’t expecting that, let along the hunky model who walks in and takes a pose. She can feel his eyes on her constantly and sees the smirk that he tries to hide. That just confirms it that men are all blockheads!
Just when she thinks the worst may be behind her, she finds on the weekend after her art class, that Mr. Hunky Model is also part of the bridal party in her cousins wedding. And what happens next makes for quite a hilarious romp.
An entertaining and light-hearted read.

Credence Woods by Alexandria Sure is a great read- a contemporary romance with angst, emotion, and drama. It’s a sweet, tender, heart-warming story that was true to life, realistic, and relatable.
Kennedy Hewson lives her life on fast-forward. A successful property sales executive whose life revolves around her work. She’s so focused on her career, she has little time for anything else, let alone a relationship. She’s worked incredibly hard to get to where she is and has the penthouse, clothing, shoes, and lifestyle to prove it. But she has a lot of scars, and not just physical ones, but also of her mind. Even with everything she’s accomplished, and how far she’s come- Kennedy is still stuck in the past and unable to move forward, no matter the ‘put-together’, confident image she presents to the world. She’s chronically insecure about her appearance and can’t escape the distorted image of herself that she has in her mind. Even after the weight loss surgery and workout regime that changed her life- she’s still stuck in her head- wanting and needing to leave her former ‘life’ behind, but unsure how to accomplish that. While on a business trip to Tennessee she has a car accident that wrecks her car, and results in Kennedy being rescued by a handsome local. He takes her back to his place to recover- turning her ‘scheduled’, compartmentalized, and organised life into chaos, right along with her heart.
Who is the handsome stranger you ask? What makes him perfect for Kennedy? Will the sparks between them ignite, or fizzle out? What happens when the job in Tennessee finishes up and she has to go back to Chicago- will it bring their budding relationship to an abrupt end? Will Kennedy ever be able to leave her past behind her and move forward and embrace her ‘new’ life? Your really should read this book to find out how it all plays out.
This was a lovely story. There was a lot of inner dialogue from Kennedy that really makes the reader aware of just how insecure she really is- her thought processes are quite negative and self depreciating. She frustrated me so much with how hard she was on herself and how unattractive she felt- when in reality, she was anything but. It all just made her all the more realistic and endearing. Max was just so perfect for her in every way… swoon. I will let you read all his scrumptious details for yourself- there’s nothing like a mysterious, sexy man to gain my attention!
There were a few minor issues that annoyed me just a little. Sorry, Ms. Sure…… The story seemed a little awkward leading into very ‘closed door’ sex scene/s- I felt that Kennedy was so honest and intimate with us in sharing all her body image issues and vulnerabilities- but then we get closed out when she’s being sexually intimate? It wasn’t that big of a deal, just a minor issue for me personally, which didn’t detract from the overall story, just made me question why. I also thought the drama that was added towards the end wasn’t really warranted, it felt like adding drama just for the sake of it. But I respect that I am NOT the author, and this is Ms. Sure’s story to tell however she wants. Just sharing my though process that’s all. I would also have liked to hear from Max, get his point of view and how he thought about things- as the story is told entirely from Kennedy’s point of view. I feel like we missed out from hearing what he had to say and learning more about him.
The characters are so well crafted, fully developed individuals who really added to the overall storyline. I absolutely love Hank, he is such a wonderful guy, a great asset and friend to Kennedy. I also loved Cora, she was a wonderful addition to the story. All their friends were great too- loyal, supportive and fun.
The story is a wonderfully romantic- with opposites attracting, overcoming obstacles, releasing body image issues, learning to love yourself, new beginnings, learning to ‘live’ again and embracing life elements that made this story hard to put down.

Do Not Open Until Halloween is a wonderful new story by C.A King. It is a short story, which made it a quick and easy read. The story has an original premise and is a young adult fantasy with magic, magical creatures, some spookiness, adventure, and a wonderful underlying (anti-bullying) message. I can always count on Ms. King to write a story that will pull me in and keep me hooked right through till the end, and this book was no exception. I love her all her books, so I was really excited to see this pop up on my feed and snapped it up right away.
Caitlin grew up listening to her Aunt Petunia’s fairy stories and the wonderful tales she would tell. But now at 18 she still loves her Aunt but thinks she’s just peculiar. When her Aunt asks Caitlin to house sit for her and take care of her two cats, Caitlin agrees- but then the boy she’s been crushing on asks her out, which clashes with her new responsibilities. So she decides to invite a small group over to her Aunt’s place instead. But what happens when her world collides with the magical realm. When an unexpected ‘guest’ arrives, trouble soon follows, and Caitlin will have to decide what she believes in. What will she do? You will enjoy reading this wonderful story to find out all the fascinating details.
This is such an imaginative, unique and well written story. Ms. King has a very dynamic and magical style, with wonderfully detailed descriptions and rich, vibrant scene setting. Through her words we are transported into the story to watch everything play out right alongside the characters. Through Ms. Kings incredible world building skills, a whole new fascinating world opens up.
The characters were well developed, quirky, and interesting. I loved Aunt Petunia (and the cats). I hope we will get the chance to explore more of this world again!

Tomb for an Eagle is the first book in the Orkneyinga Murders series by Lexie Conyngham. It is an intriguing historical crime/murder mystery with lots of fascinating elements. It is set in Scotland in the age of the Vikings- which makes for fascinating reading just in itself. There is of course mystery, suspense, intrigue, and some drama. The story is quite original, and I enjoyed following along, trying to work out whodunit before everything was revealed.
Ms. Conyngham has a descriptive style, with an attention to detail that really works well with this genre. I found the map and list of characters at the beginning of the book, and the Outlandish word translations at the back of the book, to be quite helpful. I did find that some of the names were a little difficult to get my head around, and I’m glad I only had to read them and not pronounce them, as I’m sure I would have made a mess of them.
This may be my first read from Ms. Conyngham, but it certainly won’t be my last. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, “A Wolf at the Gate”.

Hard as Steel is the fourth book in the Surviving series by Virginia Vine. This is my first read by Ms. Vine, but when I read the blurb I was immediately hooked and needed to find out what happens. I realise now that this being book four in a series, I would have been better reading the other three books before starting this one, as I feel that there was backstory and character information that I was missing, and that detracted somewhat from my enjoyment of this book.
I love the premise of the book, enjoyed the story, and liked the characters. But there were a few issues that prevented this book from reaching its full potential, and delivering promise held in the synopsis. I will get to these issues in a moment.
Nicole Lancaster is a seasoned FBI Agent who is focused of her career and moving up the ladder as high as she can go. A woman in a man’s world, she has to work twice as hard as her male colleagues, just to prove herself and gain any recognition. She’s up for another promotion, so she doesn’t need any distractions that may derail her plans. But what happens when a case pulls her in a lot farther than she expects? The more time she spends with the broken young woman, the more she pulls her in. What about the sparks and intense connection she feels towards a certain private investigator who’s also looking into the case? With danger an ever-present factor there is no room for error.
Steel Archer is ex-military, now working with PI Securities. He’s had some traumatic experiences that still haunt him. When a battered and broken young woman stumbles into his world, it thrusts him into an investigation that will test him and require him to draw on all his training to make it through. Nicole brings a calming and soothing effect on him- but she has a hard shell that he’ll need to crack in order to pursue anything with her. What happens when he’s targeted by an evil mastermind in a sinister plot? Is there a connection to the current case he’s working on? Will he break through Nicole’ defences and convince her that he’s worth the risk? When danger comes calling, can he keep everyone safe?
This story is told from several points of view, which gives the reader a really great perspective of what’s going on. There were parts of the story that really tugged at my heartstrings and had me feeling for what the characters had been/were going through.
The story was complex and multi-layered, with a lot of flashbacks that helped to build some backstory and move the plot on. There was a lyrical/poetic style to the writer’s style, especially in the flashback sequences. The story was detailed and descriptive- but there were times the story felt a bit abrupt or clipped.
Like I said previously, I think I would have enjoyed the story more if I had read the previous books first, because there seemed to be too much information and character details that I ‘should have known already’. This did take away from my enjoyment of the story. Also, it wasn’t always apparent ‘who’ was speaking, and I had to re-read some of the dialog to work it out.
Then there were quite a few editing issues that kept pulling me out of the story. Simple thing that could have been caught, and without which this would have been an amazing read. Things such as misused words, ie: mild stone, instead of milestone; acquittance, instead of acquaintance; manors, instead of manners- just as a few examples. Then there were words that should have been plurals and weren’t, and quite a few punctuation issues. Although these things were minor issues, they did interrupt the flow, and my overall enjoyment of the story.
I am intrigued to see what happens in the first three books, and whether, as I suspect, there is a bridging/underlying storyline. So, I will be going back to read the first three books to find out. I also really liked Grace and am intrigued by her and want to know more- so I will definitely be reading the next book, “Surviving Grace”.

Romance in Rehoboth is a three-book box set containing the first three books in this terrific series. The series is comprised of full-length, standalone stories, and each book centres on its own particular character/couple. The stories differ storyline, feel and tone- but they all are set against the backdrop of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
The books range from learning self-acceptance/loving yourself, believing in yourself/following your dreams, and finding your soulmate- all played out by interesting, quirky, and endearing characters who learn and grow as their story plays out. There is some drama, humour, romance, angst, body-positive messages, fun, and originality.

Fat Girl (Romance in Rehoboth Series Book #1)
We follow as Claire Sterling goes on a journey of self discovery and acceptance. Finding herself in looking 40 in the face, having weight issues, and being newly divorced. A lovely story that stayed with me long after I had finished.

The Flip (Romance in Rehoboth Series Book #2)
The is a fantastic enemies to lovers story. We meet Andrew and Sonnet who have a history and who find themselves the joint beneficiaries of a Will- inheriting a house they decide to Flip. What happens when renovation turns to romance? A great read!

Plot Twist (Romance in Rehoboth Series Book #3)
Lindy and Meric take us along for the ride as they follow their dreams in this wonderful backstage romance. An original, and worthy addition to the series. One of my favourites!

Ms. Montgomery really is a gifted storyteller, easily able to pull readers into her story and keeping them connected and hooked the whole way through. I love how her stories depicts characters who are realistic, relatable, and entirely believable.
This box set really is worth your time and money, not only is it a great buy, you get three wonderful, full length stories to dive into and enjoy.

Sailors Knot is the fourth book in the Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. Let me start by saying that Ms. Alexander has really set the bar quite high with this wonderful book. I am a big fan of her work and she never fails to deliver an enticing read, and this story is no exception. I have come to expect a lot from her, which probably isn’t very fair on my part, but I blame her for writing stories that just get better and better the farther into the series we go, eclipsing the other books with each new instalment. Just when I think that it won’t be possible to match the previous book, she ups the ante and not only matches, but exceeds them, as well as all my expectations, and blows me away. Especially this book, which is my favourite, and pick of the series so far. Out of all her books, this one wormed its way farther into my heart than any of the others managed to do.
From the divine cover, to the exceptional writing, the original storyline, and wonderful characters, Ms. Alexander ticks all the boxes, and then some. This is a fantastic second chances x contemporary romance x erotica. There is heartache, loss, sacrifice, reminiscing, friendship, desire, unconditional love, heartbreak, triumph, sex-positivity, polyamory, passion, erotica, patience, and surprises.
This story could be read as a standalone, without feeling like you are missing anything from the storyline. But having said that, the other books are well worth the read, as they really are great stories on their own- but they also introduce other recurring characters. So, having all that information and the backstories would increase your reading pleasure, of this book, and the series as a whole.
The series itself is set around a swinger’s club and the people who live the lifestyle and ‘attend’ the club and who go on to form a relationship through that- but this book was a little different as it concentrated more on a polyamorous relationship between three people and the connection, complexities, highs, and lows that came along with that. I was thrilled to finally be getting Casey’s story, and even though Ms. Alexander put my emotions through the wringer, and I really felt for what Casey had been/was going through- I. LOVED. EVERY. MINUTE!
Casey Fontane is in California, staying with her sister while undergoing cancer treatment. Leah and Paisley have come to see her, but they both have their own issues that are weighing on their minds. The grand lady that Casey is, she gives them some great guidance by telling her own epic, and complicated love story.
We learn that what starts as a way for Casey to get all her ‘needs’ met, turns into something so much more significant- and through her, we meet Gabriel and Joshua- following as Casey takes us all on an incredible journey into the past and back again. Will she get a second chance, in life and love? Or is it all too late?
I love these characters, they are quite dynamic, and fully realised individuals with their own quirks and flaws- which made them all the more realistic and relatable.
OMG! That ending was EVERYTHING, with cheese on top!!! GAH! Loved it!
Now I can’t wait for the next book!

Must Be Crazy is the incredible third instalment in the Darling Cove Series by Deborah Garland. This story is every bit as wonderful as the previous two books, and surprisingly is now my favourite of the series, so far! Why do I say surprisingly? Well, because we have met these two characters in the previous books, and while I was curious about them, I wasn’t sure I would love Skye, or be able to fully connect with her, or the story. I knew Edward would be a shoo-in, but if I hated Skye, then that would make this reading experience quite difficult.
But, I needn’t have worried, and should have trusted Ms. Garland, as she’s never let me down before. Not only did she (and Skye) win me over- Edward and Skye have now became my favourite couple of the series! Yeah, I was surprised, that’s for sure!! But in a really great, “OMG! I love this book and you have to read it” kind of way!
The story is a touching contemporary romance with a second chances element that really tugged on my heart-strings. It’s romantic, sweet, tender, emotional, heartbreaking, and incredibly steamy story: with wonderful family dynamics (the Mallory’s and the Morgan’s), loyalty, longing, passion, drama, camaraderie, and love.
There are all the brilliant characters we’ve grown to love from the previous books, as well as one who I grew to hate with a passion. That’s one of the things that Ms. Garland does so well- she is able to get her reader to completely invest in her characters and their story, whilst also imbuing the story with so much emotion, which had me smiling, laughing, and sobbing all within the same chapter/s. I think I spent much of the final third of the book sobbing my heart out , struggling to read the story through all of my tears, reading as fast as my eyes would allow just so I could see what happens next.
Skye Mallory is Gwen (Book #1) and Greg’s (Book #2) sister. She’s an attorney who has her own office on main street and lives in the apartment above her office. She’s worked hard to get to where she is and is quite good at her job. But, now that both her siblings have found love, she knows that there is an expectation for her to do the same. Problem is, she’s still stinging from a bad, and quite embarrassing breakup, and isn’t interested in getting hurt again. Plus, there’s the matter of her long-held and devastating secret that she fears to expose. But when her office and apartment catch fire, She’s saved by the very hunky volunteer fire chief. The sparks fly between them and she can’t help wondering if things would be different with him.
Edward Mendelsohn is an architect, volunteer firefighter, single father, and all-round good guy. He hasn’t had a relationship since Julian’s mother walked out on them. Edward’s had his eye on Skye for quite some time, but things hadn’t gone his way when it came to asking her out. He also has Julian, his 7year-old son to consider- he’s Edwards number one priority. When he saves Skye from the fire, things quickly heat up between them and he start to imagine sharing his future with this gorgeous woman.
But a strange turn of events sees them in a legal conflict of interest, which brings their budding romance to a screeching halt. Then to make matters worse, the past comes back with devastating consequences for Edward. Can these two work out these various roadblocks and get their romance back on track? Or have they detoured too far off their path to ever find their way back? What happens when her ‘secret’ is revealed? What does the future hold for these two?
Well, Ms. Garland certainly put these two through the wringer and made them work hard for every ounce of happiness. There was one crisis after another that had me anxiously sitting on the edge of my seat and quite emotionally invested as I followed along. But I just ADORED how Ms. Garland brought everything together in the end!! I was a grinning, teary eyed idiot.
This story/series really deserves to be read and should be on everyone’s TBR list!
I am excited to see what “A Must For Christmas: A Darling Cove Novella” has in store for us and have already pre-ordered it!

The Catch is the second book in The Eastern Shore Swingers Series by Phoebe Alexander. This book is a wonderful contemporary romance that takes us on a journey into the world of swinging, so if you don’t like sexy, steamy, and erotic- then this probably isn’t the book for you!
But, having said that, don’t let the ‘swinging’ part of the story put you off reading this really great story, because if you go into it with an open mind you will be surprised by what you’ll find under the cover of this superb story, there is much more to the story than the erotic elements. There is depth and substance.
Paisley Parker is new to town and has been hired as a manager for the Factory (Private Swingers Club). She’s the definition of sex-bomb: a curvy burlesque dancer from New York. She doesn’t do relationships, only indulging in casual hook-ups. But is there more to her story? Is her confidence masking a deeper vulnerability?
In an effort to develop a website for the Factory, Paisley hires someone with the expertise to get the job done right. Enter Calvin Mitchell. He’s immediately drawn to her and would like to see where their mutual attraction may lead. So, what happens when this one-woman-man meets this wild and sexy woman? What happens when he learns about the club and the ‘lifestyle’? What about their age difference? And what happens when the past returns to haunt her?
This story is really well written, DUH- it’s Phoebe Alexander! There’s drama, emotion, passion, erotica, some suspense, surprises, friendship, connections, and lots of steam. The characters were wonderful and went through some development and growth over the course of the story. Once again Ms. Alexander has produced a enticing and sex-positive story, that drew me in right from the get-go.
Another great read from this talented author!

The Fifth Knight is the first book in The Knights of Caerleon Series by Claire Luana and Jesikah Sundin. Wow! What a fantastic collaboration this book has turned out to be. I am a big fan of Ms. Luana’s, but Ms. Sundin is a new-to-me author- but after reading this book, that’s something I plan on rectifying as soon as possible. These two authors really compliment each other’s style and this book reflects that in so many ways. From the fascinating and original storyline, to the polished writing, the brilliant world building, and wonderful characters- everything was really well thought out and developed, which made it all seem quite realistic and believable. It meshed so well, I certainly couldn’t tell which parts were written by whom. It all seemed to flow beautifully, a real credit to both their talents.
This is a brilliant Arthurian fantasy- a reverse harem with plenty of swords and sorcery, magic, action, adventure, drama, revenge, plots, curses, the hand of fate, knights, Merlin, battles, suspense, spice, betrayal, hope, and surprises.
King Arthur’s kingdom has been cursed, the fate of his realm looks dark. With Lancelot, Percival and Galahad by his side, their only hope is to find the fifth knight, foretold in prophecy to hold the power to break the curse. The very last thing they expected was to find the fifth knight, and find out that she is a woman…
Fionna is a skilled warrior who is on a mission to save her family. She has her sights set on a magic sword, which leads her to Caerleon, Arthur and the knights. What ensues when she gets there and earns her place as a knight makes for an incredibly captivating story that I would definitely recommend to all fantasy, reverse harem, and Arthurian fans.
I must admit when I first saw this book that I as a little worried that the whole reverse harem aspect of the story would overwhelm the fantasy/Arthurian side of the tale. But I needn’t have worried as Ms. Luana and Ms. Sundin wove a wonderful tapestry, where the reverse harem was just one element in an incredible, multi-layered story. I was pulled into the story and followed along cheering them on the whole way. There were times where things got quite complicated and difficult, which had me a little anxious to see how everything would work out. I read this book in an evening, just so I wouldn’t have to put it down.
I love what these two wonderful authors have accomplished together, and I can not wait to read the rest of the series.

Born to Fight is the first book in the Can’t Resist You series by Brittany Anne. This story took me by surprise I must say. I knew from the synopsis that I would like the book, but I didn’t expect it to be quite as fascinating as it turned out to be. This is a Sci-fi story with a definite apocalyptic and dystopian theme. It’s an action-packed adventure full of drama, danger, suspense, some mystery, passion, secrets, sparks, sizzle, heat, and hope. I read the book in an afternoon, glued to the pages to discover how it all plays out. I didn’t want to put it down until I’d read every last word. That’s how much the story gripped me.
Rain has been on her own, in an old abandoned bunker she’s turned into her home, for the past two years. She has her routine and she’s content to stay right where she is, where she feels safe. Her world changes in an instant when she goes to the river one day, only to discover an unconscious and badly wounded man, barely alive. She can’t leave him to die, so she drags him back to her bunker, tends to his wounds and begins nursing him back to health. But as time goes on, she begins to wonder if it was the smartest thing to do, as she’s exposed herself now and placed herself at risk- she doesn’t know a thing about him, he could be the enemy for all she knows.
Hunter Kane is one of the leaders of the Resistance- was born to be a fighter, but had no choice really. With the world the way it was, people depended on him to keep them safe, so he did what he’d been trained to do, fight for the cause- to win back his world. When a mission goes wrong, Hunter is badly wounded, and left for dead. He thinks his time is up, so he’s quite surprised when he wakes up many days later with a beautiful woman tending to him. He’s immediately drawn to her, and as he recovers he begins to imagine what life might be like if he didn’t have all the responsibility and expectation on him. But he has people depending on him, and all he’s ever known is the ‘fight’. He doesn’t need the distraction of a relationship. Plus, he knows she’s keeping secrets and wonders what they might be. What happens when he discovers what her secrets are, and who she really is? When danger finds them, what will they do? Do these two have any chance of finding happiness in a war-torn and dangerous world? Will Rain find somewhere she finally belongs? You really should read all the exciting developments for yourself, you are sure to love it as much as I have!
This really was a fantastic read! It was exciting, steamy and emotional- with heartbreaking details, touching and tender scenes, sweet and romantic moments, and edge-of-your-seat-suspense…. that all blended into an entirely addictive story.
This is told from multiple POV’s, so the reader really gets an immersive reading experience, getting the ‘full’ picture of what’s been, or is, going on. There are some flashbacks that help to build the backstory and to also set the stage for the main ‘events’. The story has a fast pace and a smooth flow, making it an easy read.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book/s in this series, because if this book was anything to go by, the rest of the series is set to be incredible!

Eight Steps to Alpha is the first book in the Nerdy by Nature series by Taylor Sullivan. This was a fun read, with lots of laughs along the way, as I followed this friends to lovers story.
Elliot Prescott is a nice guy, a real lovable nerd, who is tired of not getting female attention. He works out, has a great job, he’s nice, reliable, looks after himself, and well presented- so he just can’t figure out why he can never ‘get the girl’. Elliot has a certain woman he’d like to catch the attention of, and has a month while she’s out of town to try to become more of a ‘catch’. He enlists the help of his best friend and roommate, Fe Porto, who suggests that women these days love more of an Alpha male. So, Elliot decides that if that’s what women want, then that’s what he’ll become. Fe comes up with a list of 8 ‘steps’ that Elliot will have to take in order to become the Alpha Male of woman’s fantasies. What ensues is a funny, charming, touching, and highly entertaining romp as these two work their way through the steps.
But what happens when a kiss changes everything? Will these two finally see what’s been in front of them the whole time? Will Elliot get the girl of his dreams? All is revealed in this quirky, witty and original book.
Highly entertaining reading!

Everyday Enchantments is an enchanting book full of musings, wonder and appreciation by Maria DeBlassie. It’s a wonderful non-fiction ‘self-help’ book that I would classify as philosophical, and packed full of simple, yet inspirational teachings. It also has a real shamanistic quality to it that made the ideas and advice Ms. DeBlassie gives to be quite thought provoking and uplifting.
It is a meditation on finding the beauty in the small, simple things in our lives. To take a breath, slow down and appreciate ‘being’. It’s about thankfulness, mindfulness, reflection, understanding, simplifying, and conjuring our own happiness. There are many blessings to be found in the mundane, we just need to ‘still’ our minds to see them. There is so much of our lives that we don’t think about, things we take for granted, yet should be more important and meaningful.
Ms. DeBlassie explains how we can create our own ‘magic’ in our lives and lead richer and more fulfilling lives.
The author gives examples, by sharing her own experiences, lessons, and thought processes- and even though there may be geographical, or cultural differences, the underlying message applies to all.
There are a lot of things that I will takeaway from this and a few that I will ponder on some more, but overall I really understand and appreciate the message that Ms. DeBlassie is sharing here.

My Hidden Life is the Brothers of Camelot series prequel and the first book in My Life series by Necie Navone. I was really taken with the first book in the Brothers of Camelot, and as a prequel, this is such a fantastic addition to the storyline and ‘bigger picture’ that Ms. Navone is painting.
After the tantalizing snippet that we got at the end of ‘The Only One’, this book has only heightened my interest, even more than it already was. I practically inhaled this book, zipping through it in one sitting because I was desperate to find out what happens, who the elusive Aless was, and how she and Greyson meet. Well this book is far more complex than I had imagined. Yes, I did get some of my answers, but I also got more of Aless’s compelling story- because this book starts from Aless’s early years and works its way through to her later teen years.
Alessandra Canzano was born into an Italian crime family, the only child of the powerful and ruthless Capo (boss). She is their Princess, treated as royalty and living a fairytale life- until her sixth birthday when danger makes itself known, changing her life forever.
Her father had big plans for her right from the moment she was born, but after the events at her sixth birthday, he becomes even more controlling and obsessive. Alessandra’s beloved Uncle was tasked with training her, as he would one of the men. From the age of six she learnt hand to hand combat, then at eight she began weapons training as well. She was to tell no one of her training, or the reasons behind it. She was to keep that part of her life hidden from her mother, grandmother, family and friends.
Aless soon became one of the best fighters in ‘the family’, easily able to out shoot and defeat any of the men in hand to hand combat. But she was also learning a lot more about her family, their business, and the role in it all. She feels the heavy burden of responsibility and expectation, wishing she could just live a normal life. She has one brief encounter with a boy that stays with her long after he’s gone. Holding that moment in her heart and dreaming of a life with someone who loves her passionately.
Although she may be the family Princess, she feels more like a prisoner. The more she learns, the more she questions whether she can be a part of that world anymore. She starts to wonder if she would be better off running away and leaving it all behind. With danger an ever-present part of her life, Aless will have to remain vigilant. She is determined to find a way to avoid what her father has planned. But what can she do? Will she have no choice but to buckle under the pressure to preform to his expectations? What exactly does her father have planned for her? What does she uncover along the way? Where does Greyson fit into all of this? Does she end up staying because she’s afraid of losing everyone she loves? O will she finally escape her gilded prison? What does her future hold?
While we do get some of those answers in this exciting instalment, there is still a lot to uncover in the next book, “My Tragic Life”- which I have already devoured, because I just couldn’t wait to continue Alessandra’s story. Shocks, twists, tragedy, lessons and more await Aless.
Ms. Navone is a wonderful storyteller, weaving a superb story that plucked at my heart strings, had me on the edge of my seat most of the time- whilst also creating characters who came to life, pulling me into their world and holding my attention right through till the end. The story is told from several POV’s which gave the story an extra element of interest. There was a lot going on in this book, lots of action, suspense, some violence, emotion, drama, and just a drop of romance.

Small Town Hero is the first book in the Small Town Brides Series by Kim Koby. This is my first read of Ms. Koby’s, so I really didn’t know what to expect from her as a storyteller, or writer. But the blurb sounded intriguing and the cover was sweet, so I decided to jump on in. What I discovered was a lovely, sweet, clean, and romantic story about love, loss, betrayal, second chances, opposites attract, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
Rebecca had her future all planned out, or so she thought. All that comes crashing down when she discovers her fiancé in bed with her best friend. So much for happily-ever-after, or friendship. This betrayal is what sees her in Tennessee, stranded, where she has to rely the kindness of a stranger. What she doesn’t realise is this moment will change her life in more ways than she could have imagined.
Ryan is a local firefighter, who too knows the sting of heartache. These two are total opposites, but you know how the old saying goes. Even though they clash, there is still a connection that neither can deny. What happens when the city girl with expensive taste meets this down-to-earth small-town hero? You’ll need to read the book to find out.
The story was a little predictable, but that didn’t really detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the book. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to connect with Rebecca as she seemed quite shallow to begin with, but she won me over in the end. These two had a great connection and I loved their banter, I just wish the story had a bit more complexity, but that’s just my taste, and I know that there are others who prefer there stories to be sweet and uncomplicated- but it just slightly missed the mark for me. I can appreciate it for what it is though- a lovely, romantic story.

The Nearness of You is a wonderfully romantic and captivating story by the extremely talented K.G. Fletcher. I absolutely love Ms. Fletcher’s books and have fallen in love with every single one I have read!! She has a warm, sexy, almost lyrical style to her writing which really lends itself to the beautiful stories and characters she creates. This book was almost like watching an old Hollywood movie, but with a modern spin. Speaking of movies, this story would make a fabulous film!! The story is so perfectly sexy and romantic, with just enough tension, sparks, emotion, and drama to keep things really interesting.
As I have come to expect from Ms. Fletcher, this story played quite a fine tune with my emotions, I really was emotionally invested in the characters and the outcome of their story- feeling everything they went through right alongside them. I was completely hooked, right from the beginning, because it was so easy to read and so very easy to love Lauren and David. These two are really quite wonderful- lovingly created and fully developed individuals who were both so endearing. They had a sizzling connection, and their chemistry sparked right off the pages.
David is a famous male model who’s in town to attend his sister’s wedding. I loved him so much, he’s quite the swoony one, a perfect book boyfriend to add to my collection. He definitely has a ‘David Gandy’ feel to him, not that I’ve met Mr. Gandy in person, but I can imagine that he would be a lot like this David. Lauren is a real sweetheart, a wonderful singer who dreams of making it big on the music scene someday. They meet, and the sparks ignite. David introduces her to his world and things get really interesting. Is he looking for something permanent, or just a diversion? Can she get her head around his somewhat crazy lifestyle? Will these two find the happiness they’ve both been searching for?
This gave me all the ‘feels, and then some!
So worth the read!!

The Confectioner’s Exile is the prequel to The Confectioner’s Chronicles (Book #0.5) by Claire Luana. This is a novella length story, which made it a very quick and easy read. Though it may be short in length, it’s definitely not lacking in content, as it swept me up on an adventure to discover Hale Firena’s story and how he came to be where he is now. I love him in The Confectioner’s Chronicles, so I was intrigued to know more. And what a story he has, it was far more complex than I imagined, and he has definitely been through a lot and had to grow and evolve along the way.
I really liked the story and thought it was a great way to set up the rest of the series. There was a bit of a slow start, but things picked up pretty quickly and the story took off.
A great addition to the series. Can’t wait for Book #2!

The Confectioner’s Guild is the first book in The Confectioner’s Chronicles by Claire Luana. The Moonburner Cycle is one of my favourite fantasy series ever, so when I discovered that Ms. Luana was releasing a new series, I could not wait for it to be available. I began devouring it within minutes of it hitting my Kindle. Even though the premise is quite different from the Moonburner books, I still had really high expectations and I am really excited to say that Ms. Luana certainly delivered on all the promise that the synopsis held. I was spellbound right from the beginning and loved every minute of this interesting, intriguing and slightly quirky read. Ok, I admit that Ms. Luana pretty much had me sold just from the premise alone. I mean, what’s not to love about a YA fantasy mystery??? There were sweet treats, murder, mystery, suspense, magic, danger, action, adventure, friendship, self-discovery, hidden agendas, quirky characters, surprises, and twists. Oh yeah, I was completely hooked!!!!
As with the Moonburner series, Ms Luana has once again created a unique and wonderful world in which to set her story. Ms. Luana’s imagination seems to know no bounds as she brings so many creative and unique elements to her storyline. It’s a wonderfully written story full of visual texture, wonderful descriptions and intricate details. The story is complex- with many layers, all beautifully interwoven and stitched together quite seamlessly to produce this delightful read.
The characters are unique, interesting, well thought out and fully developed. They were so enchanting; the cast of characters added an extra element of appeal to the whole story.
This is definitely a story I won’t forget any time soon and I can’t wait for the rest of the series and have already pre-ordered them in advance!
