Fierce Emotions (Marcy Series Book 8) by Linda Burson – Review by Shannon Fowler

Fierce EmotionsFierce Emotions by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fierce Emotions is book 8 in the Marcy Series and should be read completely in order.

This book continues with all that is Marcy and her “soap opera quality stories”. Her husbands, Brad and Liam, add to her chaos called life. All three are crazy in love with each other and sometimes just plain crazy.

This story reads in a simple style, one that is easy to follow. There are enough supporting characters to keep up with, enough action and plenty of wonder. I always feel, with this series, like something huge is about to happen. And while the trio has its ups and downs, there is no major life altering event. Each story feels like its building to something explosive.

I am amazed that Burson is able to keep this story line going with new twists while keeping me so entertained. I have not grown tired of Marcy, Brad or Liam’s antics. While this story ends on a happy note there are other unknowns, which leads me to believe a book nine is in the making! And then I read the author’s notes and learn that there are 13 books in the Marcy series!! I can’t wait to see where Burson takes this family!

Linda Burson is an author with stories made to entertain the reader.

Rage (The Marcy Series Book 1) by Linda Burson – Review by Sarah Oakes

Rage (The Marcy Series, #1)Rage by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A great read about anger. Marcy has been struggling at life with constant nightmares filling her dreams. This sleep deprivation makes her aggravated and his anger invades her life, making her explode over the smallest things. When her boyfriend leaves her over it, she gets even more angry.. One night when trying to get some petrol, she is held at gunpoint and her anger full explodes. Afterwards, she meets Liam, a man on a quest for revenge. Following on this quest for revenge, Marcy uses her anger to help him find the answers. But along the way she discovers love and feelings. Can anger truly solve all your problems?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Brad trying to be supportive but having a breaking point or Jill wise and kind but also funny and caring. Great cast of supporting characters like the charming Rita or the chatty Sal. However, I felt that Marcy was too angry to be likeable. I felt this anger was too melodramatic, as sleep deprivation and nightmares only make you so grumpy and not to that extent. If this was toned down, it would be more believable and relatable.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like with the coffee shop full of life and people and colourful décor comforting and welcoming with its smells of coffee and tastes of lemon meringue pie so strong its as if you’re actually there. Or the sense of the busy city with its traffic fullof noise and people. I also liked the contrast from the bright yellows of the past and the grey rains and blacks of the present to indicate her mood changes wonderfully written.
The flashbacks worked well to display how things have changed and didn’t disrupt too much from the narrative of the present. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.

Another great read from Burson. I enjoyed seeing Marcy’s next chapter unfold. Burson very easily continues her tale and weaves such a beautiful story with riveting characters. Another emotional rollercoaster but one I gladly stuck with from beginning to end.

Fierce EmotionsFierce Emotions by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fierce Emotions by Linda Burson is the eighth book on the Marcy Series. This book most definitely shouldn’t be read as a standalone, it’s an on going series.

Brad and Liam aren’t perfect but they take such good care of Evan and Marcy and though they overreact to a lot they are able to dial it back.

Marcy really has a good life, two husbands that love her and the sweetest toddler and friends. But if you have been keeping up with the series you will know it isn’t always great for her.

This is a book you want to read when you have a time to sit back and soak it in.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book has a great story line, but for me it suffers from too many ideas and not enough editing. Maybe it’s because I love a good thriller that I started this book with high expectations and for the most part I wasn’t disappointed but there were definitely some things that I had to question. I definitely didn’t know who I could trust while reading this which reminded me of Gone Girl and I think that that alone is a talent. I feel like there is an amazing writer here, one who is thoughtful and thinks about the steps ahead. Though this may not have been my favorite book, I really respect Linda Burson for putting out a book that kept me guessing and flipping the pages. I am eager to see what she does next.

Rage (The Marcy Series, #1)Rage by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rage is Book 1 in The Marcy Series by Linda Burson. This book had a lot of suspense in it. I didn’t like the character of Marcy I’m the book because I just felt like she caused her own issues. Just when you think her life is on track she causes more issues.
Marcy is the owner of a coffee shop. She has been dating Brad for a very long time but they start to have problems because she has this rage in her and no one knows why. She just snaps at people for no reason. Brad basicallly tells her, she needs to seek help, or he is gone. Finally she decides to seek out professional help and that makes Brad very happy. They have great times together and then he decides to take their relationship to the next level. Marcy is over the moon with happiness. The reader is happy and thinks this book is on the right track.
Marcy met a man named Liam when her and Brad were having some issues. Liam approaches Marcy after she is involved is a gas station robbery. Of course now that Marcy is happy with the way her life is going, something bad happens. Brad is away for work and keeps trying to reach Marcy but is unable to. She is to busy out all the time with Liam she forgets to charge her cell phone. This causes all sorts of trouble between Marcy and Brad.
Marcy is heartbroken over her recent breakup with Brad and ends up going away for a week with Liam so he can teach her about firearms. He teaches her about different firearms and how to shoot them. Of course during their week together, they get romantically involved. During that time Brad is looking all over for her.
When Marcy comes back home and speaks with Brad, je Fonda our about Liam. And forgives her for being unfaithful which she really wasn’t considering they were broken up.
I just thought this book was very long and had a lot more pages then it needed.
Marcy needs to break off her relationship with Liam if her and Brad will be able to be happy. Will her and Brad be able to go back to the happiness they once had or will everything be ruined because of the plans Marcy has to help Liam with.

Rage (The Macy Series book 1) by Linda Burson
4 Stars!!!!

I am so in a bad habit of reading books out of order in series and this one was no different. I have to admit that I still found things to be easy to follow. This is the first book in the series and I feel that it was a good chance to better get to grips with what I have already read of the series and a way to get a little more insight.

I really felt for Macy and I really was grateful for the chance to really get to understand and see what happened in her past and what brought her to be the Macy that I had read about. I really liked the opportunity to see how her and Brad began and what events really shaped what was to happen between them and how their relationship evolved. I also was grateful to help put the timeline together of how Liam entered her life and also watch that relationship evolve. The author really did a great unique job of setting the series off and I am glad that I am able to put a few pieces of the missing puzzle in the series together and really cannot wait to read more from this author.

Fierce Emotions (Marcy Series Book 8)
By: Linda Burson
5 out of 5 stars

The story Fierce Emotions (Marcy Series Book 8) by Linda Burson is the next amazing book in a series that I have loved reading since the very beginning. I love reading about the life of Marcy, her family, and friends. This story has her and family moving into their new home and another addition to the family joins them. The story had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. There are happy and romantic times when you can feel the love and devotion that is apparent. Will their lives be taken off track when Marcy overhears a troubling conversation? Read this book to find out. Marcy is a character that I can’t read enough about. I care about what happens to her. Marcy is intelligent, stubborn, and caring. She is the type of person who at times is overwhelmed by her feelings. She also has a support system she can turn to when she needs help. There is a cast of characters that makes an appearance in the story and many of them care about her and support her. This is a story that will have you wondering what is going to happen next and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had read the last page. Highly recommended.

Loving these characters is not hard and feel like I am a part of their journey, their love, their life and their love. As usual emotions run high from anger and insecurities, love and heartache and heartbreak. I love and enjoy reading about Marcy and the men in her life. Let me tell you, there is also some laughter. Linda’s story had me turning the pages and I couldn’t stop until I had devoured it in one sitting. each and every word. The next book can not come quick enough. Always a pleasure.

Rage by Linda Burson a four-star read that will make you see red. This is the first novel in the Marcy series, I have read the series in the wrong order but have enjoyed them all for different reasons. This one was a little different and I struggled more at times with this one than some of the others. But that being said the story was good, and it shows us Marcy is a strong character and she shows usher strength of character that will surprise you at times, but it will also show you how great the writing and character development is by this author.

Linda Burson, a native of Pennsylvania, but long time Connecticut resident, has been writing ever since she was given a writing assignment in school, at the age of eight. Later, as a teenager, she started out writing memoirs and attempted several nonfiction pieces.

After attending college, she worked in positions where she edited papers for others. She spent time pursuing other interests, and traveling. Much of Linda’s free time was spent reading mysteries, romance, and women’s contemporary novels.

After several attempts at writing nonfiction, but having life get in the way, she put her passion on hold again. She gave up writing to focus on raising her daughters, being a wife, running her own custom computerized embroidery business and taking care of her dog, a Lhasa Apso named Nathan.

After a serious bout of breast cancer, Linda eventually closed down her business after almost fifteen years. She decided it was time to attempt writing again. This time, however, with nothing to distract her, she decided on tackling fiction, a contemporary, commercial romance with a dark edge.

In January, 2013, she sat down with her laptop and started writing the first chapter. After a few more chapters, she began keeping notes about the details of her characters so she wouldn’t forget the important characteristics. The writing continued, and never stopped. Before she was aware of it, her idea of a single book turned into a trilogy, which turned into a much longer series called the MARCY SERIES. There are a total of 13 books in the series.

When asked about inspiration, Linda has this to say: “Nobody really inspired me to write, but I do remember my mother and father always saying ‘anything you put your mind to you can accomplish. Don’t ever let anyone tell you, you can’t do something.’ Having the support and encouragement of my family is also important.”

Linda is now in the process of writing a Contemporary Women’s Fiction novel. Also, in the works is another Romance Suspense. She is also editing Book 9 in the MARCY SERIES, which at this moment is titled, Forgivable Revenge.

Rage (The Marcy Series, #1)Rage by Linda Burson

I have read this series out of order but even so I have thoroughly enjoyed the books that I have read however it was really nice to see where the story of Marcy started! Again as with the other books I have read by Ms Burson it was full of action and kept my interest from beginning to end. It was really interesting to see how the author has improved over the books, not that this one was bad, far from it, but you could see how her writing had moved on with each story.
I really like Marcy she is such a great character to read about. She is quite a complex character that you really do have to get to know and understand.
As I expected there were some great twists and turns and even though I have read later books in the series there were still some things that surprised me!!
I will definitely be looking forward to reading more from this author again in the future.

Marcy is a happy woman with a man she loves and a successful business who seems to develop anger issues out of the blue. Faced with getting help or losing her boyfriend, Marcy decides to get help and get to the bottom of her issues. I actually read the second book in this series first and I’m glad I did. This book for me moved very slow and it felt like it took me forever to read, not to mention the emotional back and forth with Brad will give you whip lash. Brad is not very likable in this book and I think he needs to work on his own issues. Book 2 definitely picks up and was better for me, so the series is worth the read.

The story Rage (The Marcy Series Book 1) by Linda Burson is a book that I enjoyed reading. It is a story that draws you in and didn’t let me go until I have read the final page. It is a book that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. I enjoyed reading about the characters of Marcy and Liam. Marcy is an intelligent, beautiful, and feisty woman. She runs a business and some of those who work with her are more like family than employees. The love of her life has given her an ultimatum to seek help for her anger, frustrations because of nightmares that she is having. She also is a woman who finds herself falling in love with Liam. Liam is a man who is on a quest to find those responsible for his family’s murder and finds an ally in Marcy. Liam’s character is mysterious and as the story unfolds I found myself with many questions about him. Marcy is conflicted and at times overwhelmed. Read this story for an emotional rollercoaster that will have you turning pages wondering what will happen next. There are other characters that are introduced in this story and many of them I enjoyed reading about and their interactions with Marcy. There is intense dialogue. I grew to care about Marcy and there are situations in which I could empathize with her and what she experiences. This is a wonderful book to read and one that will keep you reading far into the night to find out what happens. Recommended reading.

Taken by Surprise is Book 7 in the March Series by Linda Burson. This series should be read in order because unfortunately, I did not read all the books leading up to this one and was kind of lost when certain things happened. Not knowing why or what happened to cause the characters tondo what they did.

The 3 main characters in the book are Marcy, Brad and Liam. They have an uncommon relationship which not many people know about.

I didn’t like how the 3 of them were always arguing and fighting over everything but, they always seem to make up and be happy again. This book kept me entertained with so much happening.

I have enjoyed reading a few books by this author and recommend reading this book if you have read the others leading up to book 7.

Taken by Surprise the Marcy Series by Linda Burson is the seventh book in the series and picks up where the last one left up. I have really enjoyed reading this series and gotten to love the characters. The family dynamics is intriguing and complicated but it works for them and is ever evolving. Sometimes I want to smack some of them and in this one it was Brad, who sometimes I think he takes Marcy for granted and he keeps doing the same thing and being sorry. I am a little confused with Marcy and her strange behaviour, it really wasn’t explained so I hope we get it cleared up in the next installment. As usual Linda has written a story that grabs at you and reels you in as you journey along with these wonderful characters and their unique family and friends. There is lots of laughter and misunderstandings, love and secrets, friendships and miscommunication but for all that it is interesting and believable.

Now I am eagerly awaiting the next book.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Linda Burson has once more reeled me into the lives of Marcy, Brad, and Liam. Like I have said in my past reviews of this series, I normally get bored with series that are as large as this one. Taken by Surprise is the seventh installment. Even though this isn’t the conclusion, and appears to be far from it, I still keep coming back for more. These characters live with you long after you finish the novel. I can only imagine what it must be like for Linda Burson to live with these three and their supporting characters every single day.

Much like the last few novels, this one continues to divulge surprises that you never saw coming. Between weddings, love and its hardships, and everyday life obstacles, there is rarely a dull moment for the three. They continue to work on strengthening the relationship they have, regardless of how untraditional they may be they really believe they are doing the right thing for them, and I love that. Pick up Taken by Surprise after you have already read, in order, the previous six novels available in the series. You would not have a single clue what is going on if you were to just pick up here, and things would be quite confusing. I am anxious to see what life will throw these three in the next book to come,

Taken by Surprise (Marcy Series Book #7) by Linda Burson – Review by Angela Hayes

4 Stars

Taken by Surprise is the seventh book in the Marcy Series by Linda Burson. This story picks up from book six and has quite a lot going on between the covers that grabbed my attention. There are surprises, celebrations, birthdays, a wedding, hospital visits, stress, good news, unique family dynamics, past enemies, a little danger, discoveries, surprising developments, uncovering answers, emotions, romance, suspense, drama, tension… and more. Because this book/series has a continuing storyline that progresses from book to book- I really recommend reading the series in sequence, so you have all the information you need to make this a captivating reading experience and avoid any confusion.

I have really enjoyed following along as this series develops, each instalment adding more to the bigger picture that is being painted- keeping me intrigued and needing to know more, needing to see what happens next. The way the storyline has evolve is so clever, but it’s the way the characters have grown and developed over the course of the series that has made the biggest impression on me- they are not the same people we met at the beginning- especially Marcy, whose growth has impressed me the most. Also, the way their relationship/s evolved to where it is now has been wonderful to ‘watch’- Marcy, Brad and Liam have a complicated, unconventional family dynamics…. but it really seems to work for them- there is real love, understanding, patience, caring, romance and passion; as well as some more complex emotions/situations- such as tension, misunderstandings, and jealousy. But overall, they really do care for one another and make it all work. So, even though their situation is unconventional- Ms. Burson writes it in such a way that it is interesting, understandable, relatable and believable.

Another thing that continues to impress me with this series is that with so many instalments in the collection, and with more yet to come, it would be easy to assume that somewhere along the line the thread/storyline would lag, struggle, or lose momentum- but that is NOT the case with this series/book- as each instalment is able to hold its own, and enhances the overall storyline.

I thought after reading book #6 that this was probably going to be the last book in the series, but I am happy to find out that it isn’t- so now I can’t wait for book #8- “Extinguishing Emotions”!

Thank you, Ms. Burson!

Caught in a Lie (Book 6)Caught in a Lie by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caught in a Lie by Linda Burson a four-star read that will catch you. This is the sixth book in the Marcy series and each book goes from strength to strength, each story follows on so you would need to have read the other books in the series to get the full story and enjoy the whole picture. This series just gives you enough to keep you hooked all the way through, each part of the story is revealed just when its needed to keep you on the edge of your seat. I will say this one is darker than the other stories, the twisted revenge plot will keep you hooked, but is believable as a plot line. Overall a very good book in a great series.

This series contains a continuing storyline that bridges from one book to the next, so if you haven’t the previous books the series, I really recommend that you do because otherwise it may be a little confusing if you don’t have all the relevant information. As I said in my last review, this series has hooked me and made me want to find out what will happen next, Ms. Burson is a brilliant storyteller and the more books I read in this series and the way it continues to evolve, the more impressed I am of her as an author and at just how fantastic this book/entire series really is.
As with the previous book, this story has secrets, shocks, emotions, a love triangle/three-way, interesting family/relationship dynamics, romance, suspense, drama, tension, dilemmas, and a bit of revenge. Marcy, Brad and Liam are complex, yet endearing individuals who have easily drawn me into their tale, making me emotionally invested in them and the outcome of their story. The story is written in such a way that it is believable, exploring some interesting situations that can occur in relationships. The character situations and their interactions are believable, realistic and relatable. Ms. Burson still makes her characters ‘work’ for their happiness- while she also throws in a few twists and interesting developments that had my mind whirling trying to figure out where the story would lead next.
Bring on the next book! I can’t wait!

Thank you, Ms. Burson!

Caught in a Lie (Book 6) by Linda Burson – Review by Jenni Bishop

Caught in a Lie (Book 6)Caught in a Lie by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caught in a lie is the sixth book in The Marcy Series by Linda Burson and is a  contemporary romance story. Each book in the series gets better and better and one I  have loved since the first book. I love these characters and feel like I am a part of their  journey, their love, their life, their unwavering love and commitment to each other.  Emotions run high and strong from anger and frustration, insecurities and love, pain  and heartache, heartbreak and excitement and you feel everyone of them. When they  laugh you laugh, when they break you break with them. I love and enjoy reading about  Marcy and the men in her life. Let me tell you, there were tears shed reading this one.     As usual Linda’s words had me turning page after page to see what was going to  happen next and I couldn’t stop until I had finished devouring each and every word.  The next book can not come quick enough.

The Past Returns (The Marcy Series Book #5) by Linda Burson – Review by Angela Hayes

The Past Returns (The Marcy Series Book 5)The Past Returns by Linda Burson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Past Returns is the fifth book in the Marcy Series by Linda Burson. WOW! So just when I am starting to really wrap my head around everything that has happened in the series so far, Ms. Burson hit me with The Agreement and had my mind reeling with the direction the story had taken. This book picks up pretty much where The Agreement concluded- so if you haven’t read that book, or the rest of the series, I really recommend that you do because there is a bridging/continuing storyline that will be a little confusing if you don’t have all the facts. I am impressed that this far into the series, Ms. Burson still has the ability to pull me into her storyline and completely surprise me. As I said in my last review, the more books I read in this series and the way it continues to evolve and deliver unexpected twists- the more in awe I am of her as an author and just how brilliantly thought out, and fantastically written, this book/entire series really is.
This story has secrets, shocks, emotions, a love triangle/three-way, interesting family/relationship dynamics, romance, suspense, drama, misunderstandings, jealousy, frustration, trust issues, tension, dilemmas, and a large dose of fate. Marcy, Brad and Liam are working out the finer points and logistics of The Agreement that was reached in the last instalment. These quite complex individuals are quite endearing and have easily drawn me into their tale, making me emotionally invested in them and the outcome of their story. The story is written in such a way that it is believable, exploring some of the more complicated situations that can occur in relationships when the heart wants what the heart wants- the character situations and their interactions are realistic and relatable, even if I haven’t experienced that myself before. And as I have come to expect from Ms. Burson, she doesn’t make it easy for her characters- they have to ‘work’ for their happiness, while she also throws in a few twists and interesting developments that had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what would happen next. The characters, and the storyline really have come a long way since everything that happened in book one, and I have enjoyed watching the story and characters develop and grow over the course of the five books so far. What is in store for Marcy, Brad, Liam, and baby Evan- and how will The Agreement work out in the end? The story is set to continue in the next book and I have already taken the plunge to find out what will become of them all…..
Well Done!

Thank you, Ms. Burson!

The Agreement (The Marcy Series Book #4) by Linda Burson – Review by Angela Hayes

The Agreement (The Marcy Series Book 4)The Agreement by Linda Burson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Agreement is the fourth book in the Marcy Series by Linda Burson. The series has a continuing storyline, so it would not be advisable to read this story without first reading the other three books. The more this story/series continues to evolve, the more in awe I am at just how well thought out, and superbly written, this entire series/storyline really is. Ms. Burson once again has infused her story with just the right amount of suspense, drama, dilemmas, emotion, humour, and believability to really keep things interesting. We once again witness these wonderfully complex and likeable characters traversing some of the complications that occur in relationships, their interactions are realistic and relatable- but Ms. Burson also throws in a few surprises that had me on the edge of my seat to find out how things would play out. The characters have really come a long way since we met them in book one, and I have enjoyed watching them develop and grow over the course of the series so far. But just because Marcy and Brad are now married, had their honeymoon, and welcomed their baby into the world- doesn’t mean things will be smooth sailing from here on out. This story sees their relationship tested, and choices will need to be made. A new friendship is formed, which also brings unexpected developments and changes.
As with all her books that I have read, Ms. Burson really writes incredibly well, pulling you into the story and keeping you hooked right through to the end. And again, I really lost myself in this fabulous story (in a good way). For me, that is the sign of a skilled writer. I have really enjoyed this series so far, each book slightly eclipsing the previous instalment.
As I have come to expect from Ms. Burson, this story has a great pace and is easy to read, it evolves beautifully and unexpectedly the further into the story/series I go. I can’t wait to discover what she has planned for Marcy, Brad and the overall storyline…
Bring on the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Burson!
