This book drew me in from the beginning and kept me entertained throughout. This book is full of mystery, suspense, and romance. I loved the unexpected twists and turns, and the wonderful characters Harlie and Clay, and others we meet in this story. This is a well written story that kept me guessing and made me laugh, I love a story that I get to experience a wide array of emotions, and this was one of those. CAUGHT IN THE CROSS SEAS is the first book in the new “Caught Series” and I was intrigued by the blurb.

This is a completely entangled story that has deception and lies and denial and suspense – oh and romance. It is multi layered with one common thread that connects it all together. The tale is complex and well plotted with lots of characters who interact with each other. At times I found myself going backwards to help me recall a particular plot point or character. I read fast and don’t always absorb the words.

I had a problem connecting with the main characters of the story. I never felt invested at any time. They both have a lot of baggage they are running from and are both in need of really good therapy. That is me, though, you may connect with them and fall in love.

I did enjoy reading the story and was kept engaged from beginning to end. I will continue this series.

Caught in the Cross Seas (The Caught Series Book 1)
By Sharleen Scott
Rated 5 stars

I really enjoyed this much more than I anticipated. The story was good. The characters were enchanting. The writing was smooth and easy to follow. I laughed and teared up a couple times. The characters were deep enough that I learned to like and care about them.
I really enjoyed Harlie (Loved her name) she is fun and her look on life is nice. Her shoes, her word and heart are all what make her interesting. I love her thoughts on arguing!

“Arguing has its virtues. It clears the air and gives people great opportunities for making up.”

Clay is a country singer who is missing something in his life. He has life struggles. I think he was shocked when Harlie call him a “Goober”. That made me laugh though. I was glad for the portrayal of his singing life (fans etc.) and a normal person life. Clay brings some great characters into the story with him. Tom and Harv were fun to read. They definitely have Clays back and they watch out for Harlie.

The ending…..I am not a super fan. Granted she did things to make him mad. Just as he upset her. But the time frame, distance and the reason…irritated me. That made the ending uncomfortable and too rushed for me. Anyway I see the next book is about TOM!! So excited to see where his story goes.

Caught in Cross Seas was a great 5 star read and book one in the Caught Series.

Harlie meets Clay after she gets in an accident with her smart car, she is enamored by his looks. They meet again when Clay accuses Harlie of following him home, which didn’t go well. Clay didn’t exactly start off on the right foot with Harlie.

I don’t care who you are. I’m not interested in you or whatever you’re offering. -Clay
And I’d bungee jump nude into a cactus before I’d be interested in you either! -Harlie

Clay has come to Oregon in search of his supposed dead father, who needs to face what he did back in Montana. Harlie also has a little secret of her own as well, and if her location is discovered it could mean some bad things for her. Harlie agrees to help Clay try and find his dad, they end up growing close and feelings start to develop.

There are twists, turns and secrets revealed that added a great element to the story.
I really liked Harlie, she was a caring and spunky woman and she had no clue who Clay was at first. It was great how she handled the riot of women, I was LOL. And I loved Clay, who doesn’t love a hot musician. All of the secondary characters were great. The ending was perfect and I would love to see more from these two, feel like there could be even more to their story. I can’t wait to read book two in the series.

Caught in Cross Seas by Sharleen Scott a four-star read that will want to run to. This is the first novel in the Caught series and shows how great this series is. This could be too much of a story as there is so much going on with the story and lots of different sub plots, but somehow the author manages to keep it all together and keeps you hooked in to the twists and turns. Clay Masterson and Harlie Cates have a darkness that they are running from, but will they get to run to the light? Each has a different darkness but sometimes you find a common strength in the dark. I can’t wait to read the second novel in this series.

Caught in Cross Seas is the first book in The Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. I came into this series a little backward, as I started in on book #3 first. As I was reading it my curiosity was piqued about the characters and past events, so I snatched up the first two books to find out all about the other characters in the series.
I have really enjoyed this series, as not only are they really well written, but the characters are all so wonderfully developed individuals with their own personalities, quirks and flaws- as well as being a completely engaging and engrossing story. The book has so much happening between the covers, with mystery, suspense, some action, drama, and so much more. The storyline is very intriguing, and I found myself drawn further and further into the pages, to see how Ms. Scott brings everything together in the end.
After meeting Harlie and Clay in book #3, I have now really enjoyed finding out how they (and the series) began. They really are great characters, and it was so easy to get invested in them and the outcome of their story. The whole plot was very interesting, with wonderful details that brought the whole thing to life.
Well worth the read!

Thank you, Ms. Scott!

My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

Caught in Cross Seas (The Caught Series Book #1) by Sharleen Scott was an addicting read that had me hooked from start to finish.

Not my first read by this author or in this series, I actually read the last book first, but they can be read as standalones. Though there were some spoilers for this book, it wasn’t enough to ruin this amazing read. It actually made me what to read the whole series, but because of spoilers and the linear timeline, I do highly suggest reading this series in order.

This book was something, I don’t even know where to start. I can tell you that I can’t find anything that bothered me, nothing negative, and I can tell you that it’s not often I’m lost for words. I was hooked on every word, every sentence and every page. Clay and Harlie were a joy to read about, I mean sure, there were misunderstandings, ups, downs and conflict. But at the same time, all that chaos made them real, and down to earth. But man oh man, there are parts that will have you on the edge of your seat and have you holding your breath. I was in almost tears at the end. The emotions that both Clay and Harlie displayed and expressed, got me right in the feels. I can’t tell you the scene, cause major spoilers, but hell, that ending, my god, my heart was on the floor.

There is so much going on this book, and for a story to have such a multi connecting plot and intertwined side plots, you think things would get muddled. No, this book was as close to perfection as it could get. No plot holes, from the mystery, clues, broken souls, second chances, and a good old showdown, everything was tied up and clean. Info wasn’t hoarded till the end, it was spaced out and given at the right times. Letting us get to know the characters, as they got to know each other. Things weren’t dumbed down, or over complicated, and that real pull made this story not only original and unique, it made it, highly enjoyable, compelling and stemulating.

I have so many things I want to gush about, the words just want to pour out of me. But to save you from my rambles and spoilers; I’m going to leave you here, with my crazy, super high recommendation, and my golden stamp of approval.

P.S. You need this book on your life!

Happy Reading

Caught in Cross Seas, by Sharleen Scott, is the first book in the Caught Series. This romantic suspense was well written with amazing characters. The mystery, suspense, drama, chemistry, regrets, want/desire were all there. The author created a story with a full cast keeping you guessing who is guilty versus innocent, who is lying versus being forthcoming. The reader is kept engaged in the story while the author continues to weave the tale bringing the reader to the climax of the story wondering how it’s all going to finish. Harlie and Clay were excellently paired and I really enjoyed the push/pull dynamic of them. This is a story/series that I highly recommend.

Romance, mystery and sitting on the edge of your seat action all in one book. I was pulled in right from the start with this these characters. Harlie and Clay are both running from and to their pasts. There is a shadow lurking that knows all and has plans to clean up. I loved both of these two, they are not looking for each other but that is what they find. That is where the twists and turns start and the suspense of survival. I highly recommend this book, find out what happens with them.

The story Caught in Cross Seas (the Caught Series book 1) by Sharleen Scott is a book that I loved reading. It has mystery, suspense, and romance. A combination that hooked me in from the very beginning and I found myself not wanting to put the story down until I had finished. The book had me trying to decipher clues and at times had me wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Harlie Cates and Clay Masterson. Harlie is an independent, intelligent, kind, and caring person. She is a business owner and works hard to help others. She has found herself attracted to Clay Masterson. Clay is a country music superstar who is searching for a father that he was told is dead. His father was accused of murder. There are rumors that he is still alive. Clay is a man with a kind heart and a life that can at times seem crazy. His search for his father takes him to Angel Beach, Oregon. He there meets Harlie. Will Clay find his father in Angel Beach? Is what has sparked between Harlie and Clay turning into a serious relationship? What does the future hold for them? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down with the characters. There are moments that are sad and others that warmed my heart. There are miscommunications and situations that are complicated. There is also bantering between Clay and Harlie. I grew to care about Clay and Harlie with each chapter that I read. They are characters that I wanted to find happiness. There are also additional characters that I enjoyed reading about as well. The story has a smooth flow to it and is a fascinating read.

When bakery owner Harlie Cates escaped her abusive husband in Seattle she thought Angel Beach, Oregon was the perfect hiding place. Then Clay Masterson moved in next door. She isn’t looking for love. She doesn’t even date. And she doesn’t want a country music superstar tossing her into his spotlight. So, why can’t she stay away from him?

Clay Masterson isn’t in town for the chowder. He’s searching for his supposedly dead father, who was accused of murder in Montana, and the grapevine says he’ll find him near Angel Beach. If Clay finds him, he’ll thank him for being an exemplary father for the ten minutes he spent at it, and alert the authorities. Harlie offers to help, believing Clay’s motivation is love, not vengeance.

But Clay isn’t the only one searching for his father. Someone knows who committed the murder and knows Harlie’s secret too. He plans to clean up these problems, once and for all. Two, or maybe three, birds with one stone.

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott – Review by Angela Shirley

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott is the third book in the Caught Series and follows the story of Jace and Samantha.

The story is following Jace who is an investigated Journalist but something happens while he is researching for a story that lands him in trouble. As he is in hiding he stumbles upon a town where he encounters a woman who he wants to get to know more, but with his past will he be able to pursue happiness without getting her involved in his history.

Samantha owns a bakery and is a successful businesswoman but has always been unlucky in love, her last relationship ended pretty badly as she is about to give men the big heave ho until Jace walks in and throws all caution out of the window.

The story is full of twists and turns and the chemistry between these two characters jumps of the page. The writing is brilliant and draws you into the story from the first chapter, with the twists and turns, added in some suspense will have you frantically turning the pages to see what happens next. This is the first book in this series I have read and I didn’t feel like I had missed anything from the previous books in this serious. I would recommend this book and I will be looking at reading the first two books to see what I have missed.

Now that I have read this book I am definitely going to go read the first two. I found this book intriguing and suspenseful. I enjoyed reading this story from beginning to end. Jace isn’t looking for a relationship, and Samantha just got out of a bad one. Even though neither of them expected it they found themselves attracted to each other and wanting to see where it goes. Jace’s past comes back to haunt him and it ends up putting both of them in danger. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down till I got to the end. If you want to know how their relationship ends up then this is a must read. I highly recommend this book, I will definitely be reading more from this author.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great book! Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in the Caught Series that is written by Sharleen Scott. I haven’t read any of the others at all but I didn’t have to. This can be read as a standalone. However, I always recommend reading books 1 and 2 first just to have some sort of background. This book follows Samantha and Jace. Samantha just coming out of a relationship where her now ex-fiancé cheated on her within days of asking her to marry him. Samantha also runs the local bakery. Jace hasn’t been back to town in quite some time. He used to be a journalist and is now a novelist writing under pen name of J.C. Saylor and an anonymous blogger. However, he is back in town with his trusty sidekick Martin the dog. However, Martin isn’t the only one that may have followed him into town. Jace discovered the truth behind a dark net crime organization, which caused him more than he bargained for, which caused him go into hiding. Then he meets Samantha and things start to fall into place for him. Unfortunately, Samantha is having a harder time figuring things out. There is a lot of banter and sexy moments between the two. There is definite chemistry between the two and I was hoping that they would be able to stay together. There are definitely a lot of twists and turns and enough suspense to keep you turning those pages! A definite must read for anyone!

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)Caught in Make-Believe
BySharleen Scott
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott was a fast moving, suspense, romance that had me hooked from start to finish.

My first read by this author and this series, I was pulled in right away by the, in your face opening, that not only set the stage it showed us were this story was going to go. I love those cold opens, sometimes being tossed into a story in progress is the best way to get submerged, if done right, and Sharleen Scott more than did it right.

As this being the third book, and me being me, not starting were I should, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, as this does read as a standalone. As I got to know more about the side characters, I learned that they have stories of their own, and if they’re anything like this one, I’m going to be in for a treat.

Jumping in we meet Sam in a very, unplents situation, we get a good look at her as a person, and I liked her right off the bat. Girl got no time for BS. Now for Jace, even though he came across as a t-bag, there is a sadness to his character, and right away you can’t help but be drawn to him. As we get more into his backstory and his dark past, you get a better sense of why he is the way that he is. As these two get closer and connect, and fall, it just makes you all melty. It progressed at a steady pace, nothing felt forced and you can’t help but root for them.

The overall plot, and subplot is intriguing and gives this story a little something special. The added suspense mystery adds a danger element to the sweetness, making the story feel balanced and entertaining. That aside the writing was easy to follow, the POV switches were clean and clear as who was talking. I never felt confused or lost. This book is damn near perfect, and I can’t wait to dive into the other two books.

Overall this book is worth your time and energy. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will get sucked into this world and be unable to put it down.

Happy Reading

Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in the Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. Even though this is the third book you can read it as a stand-alone. There will be character references that you may want to go and read the other two books, having said that it should not distract from the story. This story is a romance mystery, thriller, about having a second chance, and a new meaning to the same story. I found myself reading quickly through one part to get to the next scene, only to find out to go back and reread some part because there was a twist when I thought it was going to be a turn. This story is about Samantha who is the manager of Sweet Stuff bakery. She is a wonderful character that I would consider a great friend. At times she is that person who is optimistic all the time. She is fighting a bad break up of a engagement with a cheating fiancé. She finds herself getting close to Jace who was a reporter who has been away for five years. He is ready to put his skeletons away and try this thing called life. You will have to read what has happened with Jace and Samantha’s story. It is an intriguing read all the way around.

Caught in Make-Believe is Book 3 in the Caught Series from author Sharleen Scott. This author has given me a brilliant introduction into her writing style and characters she creates, and I will definitely be looking out for more of her reads.

This is my first read from this author, which also makes this my first read in this series, I recommend that books 1 & 2 should be read before this one, just so that you avoid the confusion that got when I first started reading this book. After a while I got into the flow of it and then eventually I couldn’t put the read down. This was a brilliant romantic suspense read, that had twists and turns throughout, that had me on the edge of my seat. Jace and Samantha have a great chemistry that I enjoyed reading and following their journey. This book also has me expecting certain things and then the author completely change the course of the book, which kept me on the edge of my seat even more.

I loved that this book was written in various POV’s it gave us more insight into our characters – what they were really thinking and feeling and gave greater depth and realness to Jace & Samantha.

This was a brilliant read with amazing characters – I highly recommend you read book 1 & 2 but this read is not to be missed!

Caught in Make Believe by Sharleen Scott a four-star read that you need to catch. This is the third novel in the Caught series and it could be read as stand-alone, but you always get the most out of a novel by reading the series. This has it all mystery and drama, second chances and twists, you will be kept guessing and wondering what happened and will you figure the clues out and work what’s really going on? I like Jace in his gentlemanly ways, but you can’t escape your past. Samantha was a good character but there was something about her that took some warming up to, overall a great story.

The beginning seemed slow to me. There was a lot of setting the scene and meeting new (to me) people. I started a list to keep them straight then realized that a few were related. This is the third series in a book and I have not read the first two. That might have helped a bit in the confusion area.

Once the two main characters becomes tangled up with each other the story picked up a bit. This is a romantic suspense and I wasn’t sure where the suspense was until about half way through. Then it seemed mostly suspense and not much romance. I am not sure what it is about this story but I can’t seem to connect with the characters. I don’t care about them so this fell flat for me.

As mentioned this is the third in the series and maybe if I had read the first two I might be better off. Maybe I would be able to connect better. I did like the advice that Jace gave Samantha on writing.

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott is a suspense romance and the first book I have read by this author. The references to things in the past and characters lead me to believe that the books in this series should be read in order and I will be going back to read them. Having said that I really enjoyed and was fully engrossed in this mysterious and and suspense of the story of Sam and Jace. There is action and drama that will have you intrigued and hanging on every word and trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle that Sharleen had weaved so well. The story is told in several POV’s which gives the story that much more richness.   Samantha’s clock is ticking but she has yet to meet a man that can fill her expectations, that is until one closed off and secretive stranger enters her world.   Jace, has been in hiding and on the move after tragedy struck. Now he has come home and just when he thinks that maybe, just maybe he can open his heart again, he finds that not only himself but everyone he knows, is once again in danger of his past.   This is a page turner that should not to be missed.

Caught in Make-Believe: The Caught Series, Book 3 by Sharleen Scott
4 out of 5 stars

This 3rd installment in the Caught series is a fantastic book. It can be read as a standalone, however, you would gain a lot of insight and background knowledge from past characters, and relationships if you read the previous 2 books. While it does not take away from Caught in Make-Believe, I am a firm believer, as a reader, that you should read a series from Book 1. Samantha and Jace are our two main characters. Samantha is a woman who is lucky in business but unlucky in love. Her most recent relationship ended in such a terrible way that she is on the verge of swearing off men. In walks Jace, an investigative journalists who uncovered a massive story that sent him into hiding for 5 years.

Jace does not want to put Samantha in danger and Samantha knows that Jace’s stay will most likely be temporary, but they are drawn together in a way that is both explosive and necessary. But Jace’s past catches up with him and he soon figures out that 5 years away, is not nearly enough to escape the dangers that are after him.

I loved this story. The suspense combined with the romance made for a perfect book to curl up and read on a rainy friday night. The sentence structures were full and complete thoughts and the paragraphs flowed from to the other. I never felt rushed, nor did I feel that I was not given enough information during this book. Highly recommended!

Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott – Review by Kerry Baker

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott is the third book in her The Caught series. This book can be read as a standalone although I feel as a reader you would benefit from starting at the beginning of the series to get the full background and character build up. However it is not necessary and does not take away from the story.
This was a new author for me and I loved how intrigued she kept me throughout the story. I couldn’t wait to find out who was behind the threat to Jace and Samantha. I couldn’t wait to see if they would find a way to make their relationship work. The chemistry and attraction between them was obvious and believable right from the word go.
The way in which this story was built up help to build the interest and keep you hooked all the way through. The story and characters were well developed and created a depth to the story that made it even better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will definitely be going back to read the whole series.

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book #3) by Sharleen Scott – Review by Angela Hayes.

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“This wasn’t some make-believe game…. These people played for keeps.”

Caught in Make-Believe is the third book in The Caught Series by Sharleen Scott. This is my first read from Ms. Scott, and even though this book could be read as a standalone, there were characters and references to past events, that I felt I should have known about. It didn’t detract from this story, but it did pique my curiosity to read the other books and find out what happens in them, too. This is a romantic suspense, with mystery, suspense, second chances, some action, drama, and so much more. The story is quite intriguing, and I found myself throwing around various scenarios in my mind, trying to put all the pieces together and work out what was going on. The mystery and suspense were done really well done and kept the momentum of the story going.
Samantha Dylan is the manager at “Sweet Stuff” bakery, she is an outgoing, likeable, and optimistic person who hasn’t had much luck in the relationship department, having just broken up with her cheating fiancé (ex). At 35 she feels her biological clock ticking and has begun to worry that she may never get her chance to experience motherhood, especially since she wasn’t getting any younger. When a grumpy, prickly man enters the bakery for a cup of coffee and something to eat, little did she know just how much her world would be turned upside down.
Jace Colton is a writer, a former investigative reporter who has just made his way ‘home’ after 5 long years travelling. He is haunted by a tragedy that forced him to flee- he had delved too deeply into a story and got too close to some very dangerous information which painted a target on his back. He’s been living off the grid, always on the move, never staying anywhere for any length of time- with only his dog Martin for company. But now he’s been drawn home- because he thinks he has what he needs to finally lay his past to rest, once and for all.

“He accelerated with timidity, not wanting to do this, but knowing he must. The past required a showdown. Pistols or swords at dawn.”

The last thing he expected was to meet someone who made him feel ‘alive’ again for the first time in 5 years. But, with a target on his back, anyone who associated with him could also be in danger. What happens when the danger he’s been running from finally catches up with him?
This was a very interesting story that is wonderfully detailed and descriptive. It’s told from several points of view which gives the reader a real immersive reading experience. The tension, suspense and drama were crafted really well and kept me flipping the pages to keep up with what was happening and piecing the puzzle together.
I’m off to explore the other two books now!

Thank you, Ms. Scott!

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott – Review by Bobbi Wagner

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)Caught in Make-Believe by Sharleen Scott
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a romance-mystery-suspense book that I enjoyed from the beginning, along with the twists and turns. Jace is an investigative writer that has come home after five years. Samantha has decided no more project men for her but then she meets Jace. What will happen when Jace’s past catches up to him? Will it put them both in danger? I enjoyed both of these characters and their chemistry. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens to them.

Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3)
By: Sharleen Scott
5 out of 5 stars

The story Caught in Make-Believe (The Caught Series Book 3) by Sharleen Scott is a romantic suspense book. It is a story that hooked me in from the very beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until I had read the final page. It is a book with enough mystery and suspense that I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I loved reading about the characters of Jace Colton and Samantha Dylan. Samantha is the manager of the local bakery and a woman who has not been lucky in relationships. The way her last one ended has her contemplating not starting another. Then she meets Jace. Jace is an investigative journalist who five years ago was on the edge of a story that would be big if and when it broke. Tragedy and threats drove him to disappear. He is now back in Angel Beach, Oregon and has found himself attracted to Samantha. She knows that his stay is most likely temporary. He doesn’t want to put her in danger. Both Jace and Samantha’s attraction to each other leads them into a relationship. Their feelings for each other are strong and there is a passion between them. When odd events start happening is it because of Jace’s past and if so, how much danger is this couple in? What does the future hold for both Jace and Samantha? Will they get a chance at an HEA? Read this book to find out. I found myself growing to love both Jace and Samantha with each chapter that I read. They are a couple that is meant to be together and I was always rooting for them. As I grew up in a small town, I loved that this book was set in one. Most of the additional characters know each other, and the community seems to be tight knit. It gives you a warm feeling just like you have come home. I also enjoyed the bantering back and forth that goes on between Jace and Samantha. This is a wonderfully written story with some amazing characters. Highly recommended reading.
